How the hell is there a "statute of limitations" on kidnapping?? It ruins lives like murder does. "OH well, it's been 10 years so the law forgives you, no punishment" WTF

    • @melanieclark2668

It’s written that way so that kidnappers wouldn’t have the death penalty hanging over them and so would be less likely to kill their victims.

    • @AliceA333
      @AliceA333 Рік тому +8

@@melanieclark2668 It's written that way to avoid wrongful convictions due to fading memories & missing evidence. There aren't enough resources to store ALL evidence indefinitely so it's reserved for murder. But I believe kidnapping should be taken as seriously.
The Statute if Limitations isn't a deterrent for murder. We constantly see victims murdered after sexual assaults to prevent the victim from reporting the crime. They're willing to kill to avoid risking 5 years in prison. The ones who let their victims live do this because they believe they hid their identity well & will be less likely to be caught if they let them live (which is true) as the crime will stop being worked rather quickly, and less resources go toward solving it.

Statute of limitations is hella dumb sometimes. If the person that did the crime is still guilty, still alive, and has never paid for said crime... they should be punished. No matter how long it's been. 🙄

Well, If you buy a baby contrary to giving birth or adopting, there is no record of you having a baby in your care. If you hide the child you can basically do what you want and "get rid" of them once you're done without having social services, schools or friends/ family ask where said child is. I don't think that's likely in this case, to me it sounds more like her abuser wanted a Baby and then turned out to be ill-equipped to take care of a child, but i think it is a possibility people also buy children specifically to abuse them.

I love that there are happy endings at least for some people. But it’s a never ending nightmare for others. That poor mother saying no to her baby sleeping with her blamed herself her whole life I bet. If she had let her then it could have been her other daughter gone right? I don’t think there was a win in that situation. I do find it quite irritating that murders w/SA somehow always seem to end with the killer being imprisoned for doing the same exact thing to others. Chemical castration might help then again might not. It’s just frustrating that we live in a world where these kinds of people exist and continue to get away with these horrible acts. It is wonderful that there have been so many advances in technology that continue to provide answers for the families!

Joy's husband just hurt to hear, that poor family. She lost her life, children lost their mother, and a father lost his wife and partner in raising up their children. She was pushing him to be healthy, and it weighed on him after it all. Poor man, poor family, Poor Joy.

Obviously this channels doing fine on its own, but you really really REALLY should consider hiring a narrator or doing some vocal exercises. You have a beautiful voice, but you’re not trained as a narrator or voice actor, and your vocal fry can be very difficult to get through. I’m only commenting this bc I’ve always liked this channel, and I like that you cover lesser known cases.

Great content. With all due respect, it sounds like you drop your voice way down at the end of the sentence & it just gets blown out. Like vocal fry at the end of the sentence.
Again, great content. Just my casual observation.
And thank you for your hard work and thoughtful, careful editing. Please excuse my grammar ...

I’m surprised bout that, perhaps finding confidence in her new family she doesn’t want to deal with what was an absolutely horrific childhood, I can see it in the photo, especially with mom and dad, she seems so frail, but yet a glimmer of hope in her eyes, maybe it’s a no going back for her ,moving forward with her soulmate and real family🥰,,✌🏻💕

I think you might be thinking of a somewhat similar case of a girl abducted as a newborn from a hospital. She was found a year or so ago (she's like 20 or so I think?) and she's adamant that she doesn't want the woman that abducted and raised her to face any charges.

@ironwolf56 I honestly thought that is what the reporter said. Are you talking about Carlina White? She was kidnapped as a baby out of a hospital and didn't want her the lady prosecuted. I think she did have to do some time. I don't think she even sees her birth mother anymore. Sad.

September 6th, 2023 - More than 40 years after Mary Robin Walter was found shot dead in her mobile home west of Great Bend, a suspect has been bound over for arraignment in Barton County District Court. Steven L. Hanks faces a second-degree murder charge.
The state’s case includes DNA evidence not available to investigators back in 1980.
At the conclusion of Hanks’ preliminary hearing on Wednesday, District Magistrate Judge Richard Burgess found the state has presented evidence to show probable cause that Hanks committed the offense. His arraignment was scheduled for 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 9.

Please refer to victims who are most likely under the age of 18 as minors or children or teenagers, not young woman or young man. The Singer Island Jane Doe was supposed to be 13-19, so more years towards a minor than an adult. Young woman implies a woman, about 18-20 s, not a minor. Thanks, and otherwise very interesting cases.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A judge has sentenced a man to consecutive life sentences for kidnapping and killing a four-year-old Lexington girl decades ago.
Thomas McDowell was convicted Thursday of charges of murder, kidnapping, and burglary in the death of Jessica Gutierrez, who was taken from her home in Lexington County back in 1986 and never seen again. The jury deliberated for roughly two hours before rendering their unanimous decision.
Most of the rest of the state's presentation was less conclusive, relying on circumstantial evidence to present a chain of facts that pointed toward McDowell but didn't directly connect him. The state said cigarettes and a pack of cigarettes near the window matched the brand McDowell used. There were also relatives of McDowell who testified he changed his appearance, including shaving his face and no longer wearing a hat, in the timeframe roughly around the time of Jessica's disappearance. And DNA collected at the scene pointed to a male being there- only females lived at the house- but it didn't get more specific.
