I'm with you on that. When a motorist has clocked up 12 points and is facing a ban, the courts look at the "hardship factor" as in will the person be able to get to work, elderly relatives, all the sob story stuff. Anyone with 9 points needs to take a serious look at their driving and immediate bans should be introduced. Actions have consequences.

@@CyclingMikey shocking that a barrister thought that they could argue a family emergency qualifies as the emergency use exception. To be fair, everyone should be entitled to defend themselves. I think this was a singularly pointless defence, but if you take away that right, it affects us all negatively. Shortest deliberation I've ever seen by magistrates.
Revving the engine behind you and trying to intimidate you is disgraceful behaviour. His sense of entitlement when his barrister suggested that you targeted him because he was driving an Aston Martin! As a pedestrian in Hong Kong I agree that stationary drivers are not fully aware of their surroundings, even when a pedestrian is on a crossing. Mikey we need you in Hong Kong:)

3 points now another 6 points so presumably a Hat-Trick will mean a ban? (Cough) Clearly this driver intends to keep using a hand-held device behind the wheel. Keep up the good work Mikey!
Clearly this first ban did nothing to change his behaviour so what the justice system thinks some extra points on his licence will do now is anyone's guess. Being caught for the same offence so soon after the first ban should be an instant second ban, but significantly longer. Also a disgrace he didn't turn up himself. Shouldn't be allowed to get away with that either. Thinks his time is more valuable than everyone else's. What a horrible person all round.
Another arrogant figure from the TV industry who thinks his money can get him off the hook. It's disgusting, really, that his barrister tried to discredit you and obviously felt this would hold sway with the magistrates. Even if you had recognised him, or even "targeted" him, so what? Your motives are irrelevant to the offence that he'd already committed.
Does seem dangerous having a powerful car accelerating like that, after not paying attention to the road. For someone that had been banned and then got more points, I wonder what it would take for them to get it? Maybe the press attention will make it sink in that doing this isn't a good idea?
Its clearly ingrained behaviour by the chap in question... the speeding is also a big issue with guy... borderling dangerous driving given the time of day...... he'll end up killing someone before he learns the lesson.
Isn't it amazing how when someone is caught breaking the law using a mobile phone they they show utter contempt. He should have been given another three points for the finger gesture. Something tells me that this won't stop him. He doesn't care about the law or people's safety.
I'm a cyclist and a motorcyclist..........idiot drivers using their phones are a major problem.......the penalties are too soft.......1st offences need to include a 28 day impound of the vehicle in question.....irrespective of who owns or leases it........keep up the good work mate.
This case clearly shows the hazards of stationary phone use. Moreover, I think the pass at about 4:55 was a bit too close, what do you think? At least it looks like that on camera...
Yeah, it was a bit close, but I expected it and held left. It's a location I'm expecting such driving and it wasn't quite reportable. If the lane was a fraction narrower, I'd have held the lane through the junction and prevented it.
Looking well and good sir! Great job done as always. Love the videos. Offending seems to be on the increase where I live. Young woman was recently killed at a stop light when hit from behind by a distracted driver. 😢
He was for the most part, driving like a di€k. I was waiting to spot the flashy car as you rode along. As soon as the Aston came into shot, boom… it was obvious it would be that car. Since watching your videos I have also noticed the same thing, the flashy cars are defiantly more likely to be the ones on their phones
If he'd been disqualified recently it obviously shows an incredibly poor attitude to driving to get caught for the same thing again so soon after a disqualification had ended. Repeat offences like this really need to come with another longer disqualification before someone gets hurt.
Looked like a hat trick of offences. Why do so many people in big/flash cars come across as entitled. Looks so much more better when they are driven properly.
Being stationary in traffic is not a good excuse to use your phone. Today, on a main road in traffic there was a guy on his phone in traffic. His concentration was such that he rolled about 2 metres before he realised. Luckily he didn’t make contact with the car behind.
Most of the drivers you catch are not displaying especially poor driving - other than illegally using the phone of course - but his driving was clearly noticeable, even at the low speeds of the traffic. Good catch.
Most drivers caught drunk-driving aren't a second away from ploughing into a pedestrian. But it's best to catch them doing the thing that causes the bad stuff *before* they do the bad stuff. People using phones aren't aware and are driving poorly by definition. Swerving all over the road is an extreme example but many of the people in these videos are completely oblivious that Mikey is even there. A lack of awareness, 100% distraction interspersed with small bursts of movement without checking their surroundings - that's dangerous, poor driving.

That initial move would have taken you out if you'd been on his left and then taken out a motorbike passing on the right as he corrected at speed. I'm glad he received some consequences, and I feel you're right that the publicity might finally start to give the guy a message. I've seen things in the press lately where people are complaining that other people's behaviour has caused damage to their reputation... As if the person who reported a crime or deception was at fault, rather than the criminal/liar. If showing the truth of how someone behaves causes others to have a bad opinion of them, the behaviour was wrong, not the reporting of the behaviour. Some people just refuse to take responsibility for their own behaviour or the consequences of it. This sort of result goes some way to fixing that as it's the only language some people understand. Thanks, Mikey.

The very fact that you can see them, turn around, look in their window and them being completely unaware shows how distracted driver are when on the phone.
Being a bad driver through low skill levels is one thing but messing around with a mobile phone whilst driving and diminishing already limited ability is another. I'm guessing these people are obsessed with social media platforms rather than just a phone conversation that could be conducted via 'Bluetooth' or whatever near field communication system they have. I would assume an Aston Martin has that sort of thing included in the price.

He has more than plenty.

@@chrispop99 @Damion Lee
You can't self-insure, not for £500K or at all. That option was removed by The Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2019. Since then, third party insurance has been compulsory.
Excellent work as always Mikey, thank you,
Not a good look
For Hat Trick Productions
Great job! Thanks for watching out!
This would make a great story for 'Have I got news for you'.
People don’t really have an argument in regards to stationary drivers using phones. A line needs to be drawn somewhere so that the law is 100% clear to everybody.
If it was Ok to use a phone in stationary traffic, they would then say “well it’s ok to use it and edge forward….it’s ok to use it if moving slowly” and it would keep going like that etc.
Well done Mikey. His name didn't ring any bells and then I did a you tube search. This video is his most viewed ever, and he only get's a mention for being a crap driver. His interview video has less views than an old video of my dog that I recorded with a Nokia.
😆
and it was of the dogs a**e
Lol
Looks like I've been hacked. I didn't write this comment.
What a pain our legal system is that you have to waste your time in court addressing this. An unsettling (and unsurprising) that the press would try to get you doing a thumbs up
To be fair, everyone should be entitled to defend themselves. I think this was a singularly pointless defence, but if you take away that right, it affects us all negatively. Shortest deliberation I've ever seen by magistrates.
Waste of resources. Anybody, with 6 mins training could tell he was guilty. They sure know how to waste tax here.
@@andrewnorris5415 The person wasting taxes was the defendant who chose to plead not guilty, and then didn't even have the balls to turn up.
Mikey is a very level headed guy straight and fair wish more people were like him it would be a safer world stay safe my friend
6:15 oh, he's someone famous in the uk? I've never heard of him. Good work, sir!
Makes his money slagging off the establishment then becomes the entitled establishment he vilified. Hypocrite.
Who does, the bellend in the jaaaaag
Well done sir. Personally if I lived in London i just wouldn't see the point in having a car like that. The bike seems equally as fast in most areas.
It sure is
Although that has as much to do with the excess of cars on the road and poor quality of the public transport as it does the efficiency of cycling
Ive added his driving offenses to his Wikipedia page. The page mostly reads like its been written by his PR people. Hopefully all the bad publicity will make him think twice about his poor driving
Keep up the fantastic and honest work Mikey. It's about making the roads safe, and not necessarily shaming anyone like how the reporters wanted your thumbs up picture so they could run a story on the guilty celebrity. You're a class act Mikey!
I realised in my 40's that i couldnt do better. My concentration was bad. I was easily distracted. I had tired of driving and the rules of the road. I sold my car and havent driven since. I walk or use trains. Saved lotsa money and i'm saving the planet now too. 😊
Sadly people with that level of maturity and introspection are very rare
Phone use, swerving, excessive acceleration/speed - a Hat Trick
3 points now another 6 points so presumably a Hat-Trick will mean a ban?
(Cough)
Clearly this driver intends to keep using a hand-held device behind the wheel.
I believe anyone caught should get a straight 3 year ban. Fines & points don't make these people learn.
Very nicely documented case.
Fully noted that you only Target 🎯 the behaviour as opposed to a specific individual.
I truly appreciate your work. Please keep roads safe for all of us
Some people don't deserve nice things like that Aston Martin, money can't buy class
Buys plenty of Cocaine tho in his case i reckon!
Good work, Mikey. Your tenacity is inspirational.
Well done Mikey, doing a great job!!
Poor driving throughout from him, likes his speeding as well
Looks like he never learns
See you in 2025 for you next CyclingMikey shaming
PUT THE PHONE DOWN JIMMY, SET THE EXAMPLE !
Mulville was in Radio 4's Old Harry's Game. He played Thomas: a ruthless, selfish yuppy!
Does seem dangerous having a powerful car accelerating like that, after not paying attention to the road. For someone that had been banned and then got more points, I wonder what it would take for them to get it? Maybe the press attention will make it sink in that doing this isn't a good idea?
Great work Mikey i had a very good laugh at him so he must be funny .......
MIKEY .... YOU ARE MY HERO !!! MORE POWER TO YOU!!!! .... REMEMBER, NO FEAR NOR FAVOUR.
Its clearly ingrained behaviour by the chap in question... the speeding is also a big issue with guy... borderling dangerous driving given the time of day...... he'll end up killing someone before he learns the lesson.
I know who Jimmy Mulville is. He was a tv comic and then a successful producer. All very good stuff, too. Disappointed to see how he is in real life.
Isn't it amazing how when someone is caught breaking the law using a mobile phone they they show utter contempt.
He should have been given another three points for the finger gesture.
Something tells me that this won't stop him. He doesn't care about the law or people's safety.
Well done for the no thumbs up. well done for the work you do.
Laws are for plebs like us, not mega stars like him don't you know this? Great work Mikey thanks again.
Looking well and good sir! Great job done as always. Love the videos. Offending seems to be on the increase where I live. Young woman was recently killed at a stop light when hit from behind by a distracted driver. 😢
Thank you for your service
Thank you, Mikey. I loved the "it's not personal," quote. All of us know that your motivation is changing people's driving habits.
You look exactly how I expected.
just shows how arragant these people are --- they go around not following basic rules but expect others to get out of thier way and do as they say.
For those that don't know Jimmy Mulvile, he's friends with Ronnie Pickering
If he'd been disqualified recently it obviously shows an incredibly poor attitude to driving to get caught for the same thing again so soon after a disqualification had ended. Repeat offences like this really need to come with another longer disqualification before someone gets hurt.
You’ve grown on me after watching this. Keep up the good work 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Looked like a hat trick of offences. Why do so many people in big/flash cars come across as entitled. Looks so much more better when they are driven properly.
OMG first time i've seen you! I think you are excellent. I live in Cumbria and love what you do. Please continue. Big-up from Kendal in Cumbria!
We love you, Mikey, from SC, USA!!! Keep up tour wonderful passion! You are making a difference ❤
Being stationary in traffic is not a good excuse to use your phone. Today, on a main road in traffic there was a guy on his phone in traffic. His concentration was such that he rolled about 2 metres before he realised. Luckily he didn’t make contact with the car behind.
Another great catch. Well done mate
WELL DONE! Good for you, you might well have saved someone from harm when exposing a clearly dangerous driver!
@@JHJHJHJHJH I'm not criticising Mikey or defending illegally using a phone in stationary traffic - just pointing out that this bloke is a perfect demonstration of how, even in slow traffic, it's a stupid and potentially dangerous thing to do.
@@PedroConejo1939 I suspect JH only read your first few words before the Pavlovian urge kicked in!
But you're both on the same page, so it's all good! 😄
@@cargy930 Yeah. It happens. I'm always misunderstanding what people wrote. Dammit, I can't even understand what I write sometimes.
It makes laugh, all these modern cars isn't hands free.
What Don's they are.
Well done Mikey..
Good catch, Mikey. And good call moving over later. I wouldn't want to be on a road with him.
When Jimmy Mulville told everyone he was going to be a comedian as a child they laughed at him.
Well they're not laughing now.
😆 ,,,class
I wish the police cared as much as you do!
They received the evidence, processed it and prosecuted the case, so it seems they do care.
@@JHJHJHJHJH you're too charitable to them. Plenty of us have had clear-cut cases ignored or dismissed by lazy coppers to know the score. It's a job for them, they don't care and they don't have to care. Actually they don't even have to do a GOOD job.
You're doing such a great job, very happy there are people like you in the world
Say what you will about cycleists with camera's, you do the crime, you pay the fine. No sympathy for entitled car drivers, ever. YOUR NOT SPECIAL in your metal boxes.
well done on helping to keep people safer
It's disgraceful behaviour to be honest, whether you are famous or not, I've never head of this guy but from watching this clip and the putting up the middle finger just goes to show the lack of respect. As for not turning up to court, if they fail to show there should be an additional charge on top of the fine
Having been banned once before, he obviously isn't going to learn therefore should have his licence revoked altogether
Well done Mikey. Keep up the good work
These fines are just a little extra tax to these people. They don't care.
You are keeping our roads a safer place. Thank you
The very fact that you can see them, turn around, look in their window and them being completely unaware shows how distracted driver are when on the phone.
The sad bit about this video is you saying "see you guys next time" The punshments for using a phone while driving are not severe enough meaning you will be doing this (thankfully) for a long time to come.
Good. Some people never learn - and if that’s the case they should be banned from driving. Keep up the brave work
You may not feel good about it but I do! Keep up the great work......
I was just on the way to collect my hands-free kit, but now I cannot afford it, m'lud.
Since watching this I've started getting 'Chelmsford 123' clips in my feed!
Weird eh?
“A totterupper” 😂 I like that
Good on ya for catching these perpetrators.
Using a phone when driving and speeding too [ 20mph Zone and he revs off ]. Owned and shamed. Mulville should know better - after all, he went to Oxford I think.
Stationary phone users are NOT harmless -- psychologically, it shows a pattern of behaviour that they WILL repeat whilst in motion on the premise that they were moving at low speed, so where do they draw the line -- NEVER !!!
