As someone who loves driving, even long distances, and who thinks London has gone bonkers with belittling motorists, I fully support the way Mikey names and shames entitled traffic rule breakers, specially those jumping queue at Gandalf's Corner.
Yep. He doesn’t target any particular motorist - just finds anyone being careless and flaunting the rules. He’s actually very pro everyone sharing the roads and no reasonable person can complain against that.
So they disagree with a member of the public randomly ( not hunting down celebrities) capturing evidence of drivers breaking the law using a mobile phone whilst driving ( nobody put the phone in there hands ) and then go on to say there needs to be a tightening up of the law. Well what is it you want , what a pair of jerks these two are .
People that complain about Mikey, are most certainly, little boys who want to play with their phone, while driving, dangerous driving and pathetic behaviour.
I don't think that's what this case is about. It's about some rather odd character deliberately walking in front of a moving motor vehicle, going the wrong way or not, and complaining it didn't stop. Well the jury aren't dumb. There was no accident here.

Nick Freeman keeps alluding to Mickey having lost a case because he was cycling dangerously. At the time of the incident that led to the court case, Mickey was a pedestrian.
The most dangerous type of cycling you can do is doing so without a bike. Imagine if there weren't any rules and people could just drive around without their cars. Thankfully there is a process in place. This channel, given the apparent generosity of both the presenter and the guest to have already donated their brains, is seemingly a bit righty and the guest's suggestion of the national government to issue tabards and take over local governance is hilarious. Also, I'm sure if these two were to take up cycling, they'd be railing against being made to wear tabards or visible identification. A very 'It should only be illegal if you are caught' type attitude. I'm also deeply enjoying the word "persecution" in the video description but in the actual video they are lamenting the lack of policing, suggesting that were the police to catch these offending drivers organically then it would be justified but again, this pair would most likely complain about the country turning into a police state. However, members of the public reporting things they see that are illegal and have captured whilst in public is somehow persecution. Mental gymnastics of an Olympic standard there. Which is impressive given the presenter and guest's earlier acts of altruism, with the brain donations and such. Chris Morris wrote stuff like this back in the '90s but his performances were intentionally comedic.
Cycling Mikey wasn’t on his bike during this incident, he was catching yet another driver dangerously driving on the wrong side of the road approaching a junction at speed at a pedestrian crossing. He only stood his ground and demanded that the driver return to the left side and negotiate the crossing island in a safe and legal manner. The driver then tried to push him with his vehicle and the passenger tried to pull Mikey out of the way. The driver technically assaulted Mickey with his car, Mikey was forced to hang on to the car to avoid being pulled under it. There are at least two UA-cam videos showing quite clearly that the driver is dangerous and aggressive. Yes Mikey could be considered an activist but he’s equally intent on educating drivers who flout the laws by driving dangerously at that particular junction and phone use. Do not let your prejudice regarding cyclists cloud this issue, Mikey is passionate about safe road use for all users, his approach to it isn’t always the wisest but his motives are pure.
He has no power of stop. Only a uniformed police officer can stop a moving vehicle. Film it and report it, that's all he has to do. The rest is an ego trip.

The real value of Mikey's efforts is chronicling their antisocial driving for their inevitable victims. The intersection where the incident took place is known as "Gandalf's corner" because of the prevalence of people who defy the law and common sense by driving the wrong way into the oncoming lane, so they won't have to wait in traffic as long. Interestingly, the 'celebrity' in this case is Ian McKellen's business associate. Instead of backing up and getting back in traffic, the driver accelerated, trying to hit Mikey out of his way. All of us know that if Mikey (or anyone else) had done that, the findings of the court would have been different. I have been hit by a vehicle in the crosswalk, because they didn't look when they tried to merge with traffic, a very unnerving experience. Now I’m no fan of how CyclingMikey deliberately puts himself into the situations he does, but in no way does that excuse the actions of the driver who attempted to run him over in his car whilst on the wrong side of the road (it was nothing to do with using a phone). I cannot fathom how a jury could have acquitted him.
It is a simple question put by judges and barristers - the 'but for' line. That is, but for Mike deciding to run out in front of the car, would any of this have happened? They acquitted the driver as they saw Mikey as the creator of his own misfortune. You can argue the driver carried on pushing him but you cannot argue against the 'but for' Mikey deciding to run out, all would have been well.
Ive just watched the video and it's obvious why the driver was acquitted. Mikey boy made no attempt to get out the way. This is an interesting debate. I can see what CyclingMikey is on about. Texting and driving is dangerous, as is going on the wrong side of the road to dodge queues. In the court case, the driver did drive into Mikey, and it seems unlikely Mikey jumped up onto the bonnet. I agree that cyclists do ride dangerously at times. Your a pedant and if it’s not this, you’ll just find another arbitrary rule that people break all the time and kick up a fuss over that P.S just because something is ‘under current legislation’ doesn’t make it right or wrong, that’s just plain stupid
I am bemused as to why people praise someone who spends his day hiding behind a hedge and then jumping out on unsuspecting motorists committing arguably minor traffic offences - he then is amazed when these motorists get irate as most people would when being challenged by a member of the public - no doubt he was a stellar prefect at his school, grassing up anyone he could to the teachers
The "standing still in traffic on your phone" I can understand, but jumping the queue by driving into oncoming traffic without a siren or strobe lights is dangerous and council has condoned this drivers actions by dropping the ball. This is a mentality that says "I can do what I want, as long as I don't get caught by a law enforcement officer in particular"

What's militant about showing people breaking the law? A recent short on UA-cam shows this "militant cyclist" aiding in the capture of a person fleeing from police. I wonder if the two "gents" in this video would do the same? I doubt it!
Using a mobile phone whilst driving a motor vehicle then being reported for an illegal and potentially dangerous act is not being caught out, it's against the law! Why do the authorities fine and endorse licences with 6 points? It is not for fun it is to deter a dangerous action.

These guys don't seem to be talking about what actually happens with Mikey, he's not on his bike when he stops people driving the wrong down a road. He wasn't on a bike when the driver drove into him and kept going for a long way.
Actually Mikey has said the laws that apply to motorists should apply to cyclists. He wasn't cycling when he 'jumped on cars bonnet' he was stood in the road trying to stop a motorist who had made an illegal maneuverer from proceeding. I am a keen cyclist, and I believe the motoring laws should apply to cyclists, and I act as they do. There is no requirement to use a cycle lane. Mr Freeman wants to hold cyclists to account, fair enough, but why does he spend his time earning a lot of money trying to get his rich clients of the hook when they break the law, so Mr Freeman, if cyclists become registered, will you, if paid, defend them?
This is bollocks. I've watched plenty of Mikey's vids and all he does is inform the police of dangerous drivers, most of who are on the phone. He's sensible, polite and hardly a vigilante. Mikey's father was killed by a dangerous driver by the way. The police can't be on every corner due to Tory embezzlement so people like Mikey give a helping hand to the police of people who flaunt the law. This is now not a channel I would recommend.
Either way a jury didn't believe him .

Just film it and send it to the police why does he have to launch himself and interact with the driver? Oh for for the you tube revenue! Besides, he has no right to demand ID from anyone!

Well done lads you clearly don your homework for this story. They are basically wron on every point they make.
It is better to start an awareness campaign than somehow identifying or registering cycles. We need to encourage people to cycle safely and politely, and not hinder the activity.

This clearly shows him jumping.
Mikey deliberately only shows his angles which I admit would initially seem to show the car at fault.
But this is misleading once u view the rear angle.
U can blame the jury all you want but they're independent, random and objective.
@@smc2069, could you provide a link to that footage? I tried looking and couldn't find it.
It's a long-standing problem in jury-trials for incidents involving cyclists that the jury very often is not objective or impartial, since most people consider themselves to be good drivers, even though most people's driving regularly falls short of the standard expected of a good driver. This is a known blind spot in the legal system. There have been numerous articles discussing this, and there is a long list of drivers who've killed cyclists and effectively got off scott-free.
Without having seen the other footage you allude to, and knowing the above, I'm not inclined to automatically trust that the jury reached the correct verdict.
@@matttrevers2552 the footage can be found on twitter as its not on utube.
Even if most people do overestimate their driving ability I fail to see how that impacts this case. . . It essentially boils down to whether the car drove at Mikey in such a way that he was forced onto its bonnet OR Mikey deliberately jumps onto the bonnet despite having other options.
The footage from behind is conclusive and damning imo which is most likely why Mikey hasnt posted it on his own channel, just the angles that seemingly support his story
The interviewer should have gone to Spec Savers, it may reduce his incidents with cyclists
