I took my boyfriend to an Arkona concert for one of our first dates. Despite claiming to be a metal head, he really only listened to 7 bands before he met me (Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Dio, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath! Dream Theater and Queensryche). So the concept of a Russian folk/death/pagan band was a little beyond him. “You’re going to hear accordions at the concert.” “What?” “And pipes.” “What?” “And a balalaika.” “A what?” He ended up loving them (we also got to hang out with Metsatöll after the concert which was awesome) and now he listens to 15 bands, lol
The awesome thing about being interested in genres within anything, is the neatness of understanding how things relate to eachother. The neatness quickly dissipates, when fans feel the need to assign any lyrical theme or gimmick into their own genre. This seems to happen alot within folk metal, perhaps from some misguided need to distinguish ones own specific culture from that of other cultures that are represented in folk metal. tldr: Pirate metal is not a thing, medieval metal is not a thing. I'm not even sure "Viking metal" merits it's own genre tbh.
Love the video! Only nitpick, would be better if the audio was a bit clearer and less ‘in the moment’ as it can be hard to hear. Can’t wait for part 2! 👍
One band from every metal subgenre in this video (as far as I can think) Classic Metal - Led Zeppelin NWOBHM - Iron Maiden Speed Metal - Mötörhead (no one did it quite like them) Neoclassical Metal - Cacophony Power Metal - Helloween Symphonic Metal - Within Temptation Glam Metal - AC/DC Christian Metal - Skillet (may be rock but the lines are super blurry sooo 🤷♂️) Alternate Metal - 3 Days Grace (my fav Metal subgenre) Nu Metal - Korn Funk Metal - Primus Rap Metal - Zero 9:36 (seriously go check this guy out) Industrial Metal - Nine Inch Nails Neue Deutsche Härte - Rammenstein Cyber Metal - Illidance Trance Metal - Celldweller (but this guy did it all soooo 🤷♂️) Kawaii Metal - Babymetal (of course) Prog Metal - Dream Theater Djent - Periphery Avant-Garde Metal - Diablo Swing Orchestra Post Metal - Neurosis Jazz Metal - Shining Doom Metal - Black Sabbath Epic Doom - Candlemass Stoner Metal - Sleep Sludge Metal - Melvins Drone Metal - Boris Gothic Metal - Type-O Negative Funeral Doom - Funeral Folk Metal - Korpiklaani Viking Metal - Falkenbach Pagan Metal - Arkona Celtic Metal - Cruachan Medieval Metal - In Extremo Oriental Metal - Orphaned Land Latin Metal - Ill Niño Pirate Metal - Alestorm
I just thought that you Should’ve made a video for each Metal Genre to be in the Alphabet. For example The Title of the Video written as (Metal Genres Part One, Metal Genres that start with the Letter A). But I guess Chronologically is the more Logical way.
The prevailing classifications are not convincing. They were invented by journalists. There are three major types of metal. Heavy metal, which appeared in the seventies, is characterized by being heavy and slow. It is represented by Black Sabbath and Candlemas and includes everything called doom metal. The second is hard metal, which is characterized by a medium tempo and is represented by Judas Priest, Saxon, and Iron Maidon. The third is speed metal, which includes thrash, power, death, and black
Classic,Thrash, speed, doom, stoner and hair metal are the only genres I listen to i like to hear the lyrics in a song. Also u.s power metal but non of that cheeseball European stuff.
If your serious check out Bad Brains and Black Flag for hardcore. Then compare that to Sabbaths Paranoid, Priests Painkiller, and Maidens Powerslave. You'll see
Classic metal has a greater emphasis on emphatic rhythms, and stand-alone melodies within its riffs whereas hardcore punk relies on fast power chords in an unsyncopated rhythm. That's the difference.
Cool video with good explanations, although, like others have stated, the decision to take live recordings of many songs is... meh. Some of the recordings sound like ass... that rendition of Iron Maiden's Wrathchild made my ears bleed, and the Celtic Metal song was also... awful.
Dislike for speed metal. Motorhead is not speed metal band. Pure speed metal bands: liviny death (first two albums), warhead, crossfire, acid, kruiz, maniac, agent steel, abattoir, adx, SDI.
You have failed. 1) Judas Priest isn't a genre. 2) This is only part 1 (as stated in the title and in the video), so thrash and death will most certainly be covered in the next parts...
@@punkjay4681 Judas Priest is the most classic Heavy Metal as you can get and to not put them in that segment, FAIL! Thrash and Death metal were out before most genres listed in this video. It only makes sense to have the early genres first. Again, FAIL!

Finally a metal subgenre video that shows funk metal

I mean, if it uses medieval folk elements then it is a thing, but if it’s just the lyrics that are different then it’s not it’s own genre

Behold the King.. The King of Kings..
3:48 ummm...RATM are not really a rap-metal band. They're actually "rap-rock".
I see a lot of fabricated labels. I actually think there are 6 o 7 genre and the respective subgenres

Idk if they’re speed or not but they said in the video that speed metal had less of a punk influence but choose to show Motörhead🤔
I mean, Motörhead are accepted in sites like Metallum as Speed Metal...
Your part 2 better have grove metal or I’m done with your channel
Dude just copy and pasted the first few sentences of each subgenere's Wikipedia page.
And?
Your point?
