There are valves between the hose connection and the cylinder which reduce the diameter drastically. While lifting this is not a problem because the hydraulic system operates at pressures of up to 200 bar, the lowering works with own weight. Because the diameter in the small valve is so small, even with both hoses bursting the lift would just lower in the same speed as it lowers when you push the lowering button. If only one hose bursts, the other cylinder supports the pressureless one with help of the synchronization lever which bolts on both cylinders. So one cylinder lowers in case of hose burst, but the other cylinder holds the weight PARTLY, the rest of the weight gets covered with the cylinder tube clamping inside the aluminum cast guides. They go high enough to stand under the car at 6ft 3, they go higher than shown
