Oh no, in this video we install a 2 post car lift in our driveway. Now this may be a really bad idea - or is it the best thing we ever did? After all, our weather is not as warm as in Australia. But who needs a roof if you got the car above your head.
This is part one of two of the install video. We hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed making it.

If you're lifting your discovery up on the post lift put a tarpaulin over the roof first and when up secure with ropes to wall eyelets and or ground spikes, so if it rains you can continue to work, and leave overnight if necessary.
Kindest Regards.
We always have a tarp up when we have to work outside on our vehicles, when the weather is bad. 👍🙋♀️Vera
Loved watching this you two never cease to amaze me what you get up to its great to see 2 people really enjoying life doing what they love doing ( apart from the digging Christian) when your cleaning the mixer throw 2 half bricks in with a bucket of water and just let it run for 5 minutes it will clean itself 😀
Wow, fantastic job, those foundations will be excellent for your "two poster". As usual, this job so far carried out with ultimate precision. Nothing wrong with having your lift in the driveway, I think it will give you a lot of flexibility in doing your LandRover stuff.
But remember guys the lift will be of no use to you if you ever buy a Toyota 😂
I have interesting idea to pitch both of you. With your vehicle lift installed, it would be nice to add high powered floodlights in the ground, so when you are working under the car at nighttime, the job will be done quickly.
Add a little squirt of washing up liquid to the water you are mixing in your concrete. Makes it stronger. Very nice job.
I wish you were my next door neighbours. I cannot think of anything technical (or not so technical) that you two would not be able to repair or construct. If half my house fell down - "no problem but we might have fix it over three episodes." Another great video, thanks.
Great job guys👍Next time I build something Vera can come on a working holiday as long as she brings her shovel🤣
Now I know where I will service my Jeep while driving to Europe for holiday :)
😅🙋♀️
At least when Christian fits a lift it will be done properly, I would also cut the back wall out of the existing garage to drive through to the other drive way. Can wait to see the progress.
Another brilliantly executed job.❤A bit of research and bravery and you can save a fortune on so called professionals. I built an extension on our kitchen around 8 yrs ago with very little experience. The structure rests on a concrete raft of 300mm with a central 150mm mesh( A393) core with 50mm of concrete cover over all mesh ends to prevent corrosion. When I looked into concrete curing, keeping the concrete surface moist for around 28 days was critical for the raft to cure and produce 2 calcium compounds for longevity. You can get a product called concure that you apply and this regulates the moisture release if you carnt water the surface. I dont think in your case any of this would of been necessary as its more about down forces and mass! Just thought I'd share this bit of information and what I researched before digging out 36 tons by hand into buckets!!! And you thought Germans were mad!!!
Noooooo...... I am very jealous lol save your back now Christian and save going in the pit bravo! Christian and Vera is be lost without you guys much love from UK 👍🔥⚡😎
Any spare rooms for a fellow "knows nothing about Toyotas" lodger lol
13:44 No No ! The K is silent, its Nipex. Trust me I'm an electrian in the UK and use them! Only kidding, I love how you both work together and how you can turn your hand to anything. I guess you hear it all the time, but you are a great, entertaining couple to watch. And mostly, thank you for speaking English.
Thanks. Next video will be about overlanding . Christian
Putting in a lift on your driveway is a massive thumbs up from me 👍😁
Just got back from Germany, cleanest cars in the world.
Good job Guys... the only thing I would have done differently would be the use a vibrating poker on the concrete, it gets rid of any air pockets and adds consistency and strength to a concrete foundation. On building sites foundations are always pokered.
Man there's a lot of work and skillsets required for Land Rover ownership.
I like it a lot... It will make life easier for you and for all of the friends you didn't know you had once they find out about this.
A Garage addition/ renovation is needed! love this out of left field purchase. Installing lift in my shop has made for very happy car hobby!!
Love watching these, you both have such an awesome dynamic! Very nice idea with the lift.
Great job, I prefer to call for a concrete delivery !!!
Decent stack of firewood you have there Christian and Vera, which will stand you in good stead when Germany’s gas supply gets cut off this winter.
I’d love a two post lift, but my wife would never agree to such an installation. Lucky you!
😅👍 We heat our home with Pellets, but the price for those have also trippled since last year. 🙋♀Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Hi Vera, i guess you’re up in the hills, so it would make sense. I hope the best for Germany this winter. I know that wood burning stoves and firewood have been in short supply. We’ll get through it. Wear an extra jumper, help our oldest and most vulnerable people and huddle round the stove like in war times. We demand better politicians who understand fundamentals of coherent energy policy (I.e. not developed by an uneducated Swedish schoolgirl) god bless!
Such a smart lady.
We think Vera will probably sew up some nice winter covers for the posts! Nice work!!
Bob & Jill
Anything I can add is to get inspected regularly and use a professional to do the first service on the hoist there after make sure we have a log book of all the services you do on
We call that a “whacker plate” great entertainment guys.
A great investment , that lift will make all future repairs and projects much much quicker and easier.
I can't wait to see what car you get for a project
Just the thing for those body of job's absolute precision lift and lowering may be add inverter for the motor control for ultimate precision
Guten Tag. Sehr gutes Vidéo. Vielen Dank. Mfg. Tschuss
Great video and not many UA-camrs could pull off a installation of a two poster lift and make it interesting. Well done. Looking forward to part 2. I went for the four poster but regret it as it takes up so much room.
A lift is such a help. Excellent idea.
The scrolling nag nag nag had me laughing out loud. 🤣🤣.
My heart would want to do the lift in the back with that lovely technical drive to it. My head says Vera is right and having had to hand winch my dead engined 90 up our steep drive head wins 😁
Thank you Vera for the patch and stickers.
OMG Where's my walkie-talkie?! Hahaa, invest in a Belle Megavibe (de-aerator) the concrete strength goes up by 50%...! Great video and team work.
You two are crazy in the best possible way and I encourage you in your delightful madness. I fully expect Vera to now sew a magnificent cover for the lift to protect it from the elements.
Thank you Allen. I will have to do something about the rain. Vera got a new sewing machine for heavy material 👍. Christian
Precision with concrete, wonderful. Such a great project. Every new house should have one🤣👍🏻
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the installation. Very impressive building work!
Looks great! Not a silly idea at all. It's a fantastic selling point when you decide to move house. Of course, the new buyer would need to be a total car nut.
Oh we'll take them with us. The only way we are moving will because of a more suitable property for fixing cars. We, of course, installed them in a way that you can take them out and not have any visual evidence that there is something underneaththe stones. 😅👍🙋♀️
Look at those beautifully stacked piles of firewood! ❤
With it being outside Vera will need to sew some canvas covers to protect it when not in use.
Vera wins! Yay good on ya. Very Nice!
Something to consider is that the nuts which run on the Acme screw are a wear item and may need inspection or regular maintenance.
We are the king and queen of maintenance. Don't you guys know that by now. 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian I do, if the nuts wear out the lift arm drops uncontrollably hence the comment.
@@richardsheil5289 Yes, but we know that too
Great idea to have a two post lift. If I had the space to have one I'd have bought ne years ago, they make life so much easier. The two of you work so well together, much respect 👍 Looking forward to next week, take care.
If the post are not tied together at the top, I would have ran that reinforced concrete all the way a cross to both sides. She has a big smile! Have fun!
I notice who is doing all the digging and at least you will not have to get on the floor when you have to fix something when you have got it all fixed up make sure everything runs fin before putting the car onto it ,because my friend who has a garage he got on and one side did not stop and the car was flipped over he had a lot of explaining to the customer .
thanks for the video
Great video guys, I love how family come together. Christian it was great to see your dad helping you and with another project 😆, family support is always important. You are right, if Vera wants to dig you let her dig. Looking forward to the next video, take care 🙂 .
Great to see your dad again. Can we get a fireside chat video between both of you please.
Love the work ethic of both of you. Go and get yourselves a nice cold Beer .
OMG you guys are totally crazy. But I love it !! I don’t think I know anyone anywhere that has installed a two-post lift at their home. Guys you have taken a simple maintenance pit to a whole new level. I can’t wait to see your first body off job. Greetings from London. Ty
The body will probably be off way sooner than I agreed to. 😅👍But first, I'll take it on two trips with Philipp before he is allowed to do anything stupid with my Disco. 😅🙋♀️Vera
Great news, looking forward to see you not having to work on your knees and back.
Make 2 canvas bags to slide over each post for the winter months
since its going to be outside vera needs to get the sewing machine out and make some covers for it for the winter or maybe a huge tarp to hang off the side of the house as a cover to work under
This is my dream ..and very useful when you have a Range Rover 😀
😅👍 It's unlikely that we get a RR, but you never know. 🙋♀️
We have a two post hoist inside the shed, but if you don't have a high roof, outside is great until it snows 😄 🙃
But only once a year, where we live at least. 😅🙋♀️Vera
Great teamwork, cannot imagine how hot it must have been for you guys with that heatwave hitting. Lift changes everything in a good way. The lift looks strong enough to hold the series 200 once you get all the gremlins worked out if you can find one that needs attention. I always held my breath whenever you guys were in the garage with that work pit. All the best from Landcruiser / Lexus owners in Dallas, TX.
We need that pit for all body off repairs. I also do not want to do any oil changes in the driveway since we do have a tendancy to cause a major oilspill on occasion. 😃👍🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Is there a video of how you have organized your LR for your trips? Still, that pit in the garage is sketchy with the wood covering it, considering how teutonic you guys are about everything. Hope your weather gets back to the normal range. Stay safe.
Christian, did you not regret 1 sec that you build that driveway so Thoroughly? Really like your video's; always make me smile !
Great commentary Vera - Best You tube channel !
😃🙏Thanks Michael 🙋♀️Vera
Putting it in the driveway with no roof means you can also lift a sprinter high roof without caving the roof in. Plus if you are working on car on the lift and it starts to rain, you are under cover. I reckon its a great idea.
If only I had the room. Very precise mixing laying and cleaning. Great job.
Great video meanwhile in Britain we’d just bolt it to the block paving and hope for the best
😅👍🙋♀️Vera
Well done again guys , I used my 2 post to lift my Toyota 🤠 but it struggled with it so I guess an updated model for my Landrover ( my wife stitches so no help here ) 🏴☠️ great job again love seeing wats next cheers
Hi guys, this is a great idea, and with great respect to Vira for insisting that she did the digging, I'm going to check if we in the UK can do this, then I'll put the idea to my partner that there will be some digging to do! If I survive this suggestion, the you will here from me again! ...again, great video 👏👏👏
😅👍Actually, with all the work we do, I am really glad we got one now. 🙋♀️
Brilliant stuff to watch.
Raise the roof of the garage and put the post in the garage!!
I'm just jealous, I work on my Disco, across the road on the dirt.
😅👍I feel for you🙋♀️Vera
Great teamwork guys. Enjoyed the video.
Glad you followed Vera's good advice. You should always follow her advice.
Now you'll have to buy a Disco II to get full use out of that lift.
Lovely job. You could have always put another garage door in the rear of your garage wall and then put the lift where Christian wanted 😱it but as you say, that's where you repair cars anyway so it's the logical place where you have out it. I got myself a portable scissor lift for my home repairs. It means I can use it in the garage or put it outside for any body off jobs which I will be doing soon on my D3. However, I also fancy a 2 post lift and for the cost of a second hand one I'll probably get one too. 👍I wondered whether I could then fabricate a lightweight tent like frame over the lift supported on the post that raises when you raise the vehicle, with excess material on all sides that drops or folds out as you lift the ramp keeping you dry 😁👍I am sure Christian will be making something like that on his lathe soon 🤣🤣👍
Nice to see you both working hard together one thing though in the UK I think most people would have just ordered a load of ready mix cement then you just have to barrow it in if you cannot get the mixer truck in just a thought.
Ready mix cement is really, really expensive for the amount we needed. Our Driveway door is actually spec to fit a dump truck.😃👍 🙋♀️Vera
Can you get a cat from the neighbour 😂 brilliant
What great Vid you guys! Love watching every Sunday btw ...Cubic & not Qubic! sort of like Kneipex & Knipex 😁😁 Looking forward to seeing this lift a Disco!
Good morning you two beautiful people. Love the lift.
Since my youth, many years ago, I've always driven Lancias, and still do, a Thesis, and I'm not surprised at the high quality of the equipment you purchased from the Lancia dealer, same with lancia cars. Well done; much chocolate consumed!!!
I just hope it will lift our heavy Disco 😅👍 We have had a Lancia HF Turbo once. That was a lightweight compared to our Discos. 🙋♀️Vera
Christian and Vera, I agree with Vera lift in the driveway especially if the vehicle isn't working, why make extra work for yourself in putting it out back 1/2way to Australia🤔
You mentioned not being able to put a roof over the lift working area, how about then an awning like on the side of a caravan that you mount at the appropriate height when vehicle is on the lift.
You can pull it out from the building, so you have working cover and push it back when finished?
Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
A great video. This will make a huge difference to the jobs you can do. Looking forward to seeing it finished!
Look out it body off repair time!
So excited for you both and everything you do and share!
Certainly an inspiration to thousands of followers!
Well done!
You both are so entertaining to watch. Kudos to installing a lift. We are going to do that in our driveway too. Fixing cars is fun.
Hi Christian and Vera, pretty sure you could fabricate a heavy duty ramp post sock to pull over the posts when standing idle, you don't want those beefy Acme Screw's being punished by bad weather. Good call Vera siting the lift where the action takes place and not compromising the work space, enjoy the channel and your Banter
My god!! Lol. You guys just keep progressing. You will be stripping the discos down to the last nut and bolt in no time.... or at least in LR TIME!! amazing work guys. Keep it all coming.
Now we need a cat, love your sense of humour, another excellent video thanks 🙏
I have always been envious of your mechanic pit, now you’ve got a lift! 😂
Magnificent!!
What a ‘tour de force’ the both of you are. Congratulations.
Excellent job guys 👍very uplifting 😜 no seriously you work together so well, (on camera) 😜😂, that is an absolutely brilliant idea to have a lift, it will make life easier for you, next will be an awning to keep sun ☀️ and rain 🌧 off you. But your unity is really very important and in this day in age important. So looking forward to seeing it finished, stay safe and enjoy the sunshine ☀️
In the same situation I would be use scisors lift fitted in brick level. Anyway good luck!
I’m impressed 👍🧢🇬🇧
If I'd pronounce the K in knipex over here I would be bullied for the rest of my working carrier 🤣
Lucky Christian listened to you vera I think he would of regretted the original spot he wanted it
😅👍🙋♀️Vera
Hi Christian and Vera. You are the best, you know how to do everything, take care 👏💯
Subscribed! You guys are so great. It makes me want to sell my car and buy a discovery 3 or 4.
😃👍🙋♀️Vera
So interesting to watch everything you do is done to perfection
A 7 day gym session! 😜 Wouldn't it be easier to have the cement mixer over the hole?
No, we would have done that otherwise. 😅🙋♀️Vera
Oh man, can’t wait till next episode.
looks a good job to me ,, i was a building site manager for 20 years so i do know a good job when i see one ,, well done digging is hard work
💪😃👍🙋♀️Vera
Just love Vera ❤ What a fantastic video 👍🏻 Something different that fixing Toyotas lol 😆 Can’t wait for next Sunday 🤩 Keep safe & have a lovely week both of you cheers Stevie & a Big kiss 😘 for Vera
😊👍🙋♀️Vera
That’s cool! Should be listed in standard options for LR!
Should come as a standard in the base price 👍. Christian

Excellent video thank you.
Great job. Wish I had a 2 post lift in my driveway
Another great video and Vera has been an inspiration to my wife who helped me change the water pump on her Vauxhall (Opel) Corsa last week and even added a few OMGs as I was struggling to get the engine mount back in. Of course my Toyota whatcruiser still has the original pump on after 23 years. 😅
😅👍That is so great, thumbs up for your wife. 🙋♀Vera
I love you guys and your dynamic together!
Nice job both of you, I hope the concrete is compacted enough for the weight of the Mall Crawler.
Yes it is. 💪🙋♀️Vera
Another great video by both of you and I am waiting patiently for the next video.
Great work we do it the same way out here in Jamaica koool
I too have lift envy but I also have a garage that is tall enough to fit one. Good vid guys.
Your firewood stash makes me jealous.
