Note: there is also a mod which can be used called souls "unsqueezed", which will remove a glitch where the outer edges of the screen will not update animations as fast. Also, while it is very unlikely, I cannot guarantee that this tutorial is VAC safe. - Спорт

FAQ:
- this does not work on elden ring
- At 0:53, make sure to click the 'Hex-values' tab in HxD before searching.

- At 0:29 make sure you set the file to read only
- Unfortunately I do not know of a way to make the UI go to the edges of the screen
Please be sure to read the description before asking for hex values for your specific resolution!
Hey, i remember it worked for me long time ago, however now it does not? I do all that is shown, but after launching the game and choosing fullscreen the game runs same as before, with black bars on the side... come the fuck on FromSoft, are they really so reatarded to not be able to make the game support 21:9? Even with fking Elden Ring now?

I found it would only work if I closed the game in fullscreen and then changed the mode to "Window" once I was in the Config file. Otherwise the game would revert back to the default settings and the ultrawide resolutions wouldn't work properly at all. Also I believe some notepad apps will open the config file with spaces in between every character. Not sure if that impacts anything but I couldn't get the process to work under those circumstances either.

Thank you! I followed the videos instructions but it wouldn't work until I followed your instructions. First time I tried I also used the default Windows 11 notepad which added spaces so it might have been the issue. So, if it doesnt work and you see that GraphicsConfig has spaces in-between each characters do this :1) Unselect "Read only". 2) Start DS3 and go in Settings and put it back in "Fullscreen" mode. 3) Close the game. 4) Open GraphicsConfig with Notepad++ (the file should now be reset with no spaces between each characters) 5) Switch "FULLSCREEN" for "WINDOW" and write your screen resolution value 6) Save file and put it back in "Read-only" mode 7) Start the game, go in setting and switch WINDOWED to FULLSCREEN.

Tried it,still works. Sucks what this fix takes 2 mins to implement,yet devs can't even be bothered to add ultrawide monitor support with normal HUD. :\
yep, and even this fix has flaws, such as the menus and other things, which the devs could easily fix.

if you watch patiently you can see that the render resolution is still 16:9. i can see a clearly difference in animation beyond 16:9 on my 32:9 monitor, its stuttering like hell on enemys. imagine a publisher would release a game that is stuttering around the 16:9 frame. this solution presented here is absolutly perfect for me but would bover the mainstream, thankfully enough ultrawide isnt the mainstream......... linus said he cant go back from 32:9 monitor but i regret my decision. there is literaly ZERO support for ultrawide.

Yeah the devs are total f'ing trash. I've had to use such ass backwards fixes to get their ace combat 7 working in 21:9 ultrawide because they're too lazy, along with Sekiro which works but is also a pain to get working. Thanks devs for being the worst thing known to man.
Just started a new run, thought "this looks like crap on my new monitor" (uws, 3440:1440), looked around and found this. The game now looks amazing! The instructions worked perfectly, once I got the search box set to "hex". Thanks! Almost brought a tear to my eyes :)

How did you get it to work? I did absolutely everything right with the correct hex edit, set to "WINDOW" in xml, resolution is set correctly, and file is set to read only. I'm quite good when it comes to modding and this fix is simply not working.
@@hoguemusic9706 Same, the weird thing for me is if I switch it to 2560 1440 the 21/9 works perfectly but the instant I change it back to 3440 1440 the black bars return.

Thanks for keeping this up and tweaking the title to show it's up to date. The SoulsSqueezer injector from Kaldaien / Special K was causing weird jitter while this resolution tweak works smoothly. Cheers.
SEVERELY UNDERRATED VIDEO. This has helped me with all my widescreen issues with DS3, something that Unsqueezed Souls can't even do.
unsqueezed mod is a joke, so many annoyances in that devs software. Absolute garbage

Thank you so much! It fixed it. The only thing I wanted to make different was the resolution for my monitor which is 3840x1080 (ASUS XG49V) so I used 00 0F 00 00 38 04 as the HEX code. So happy :-)
thx this was driving me crazy, finally game runs good at 21:9 and 60 fps pretty steady.

oh my god thank you. I did the hex thing a while back, tried it and it worked, but it I needed to put WINDOW in config and also read only to make it work now! Thanks a lot man! love you
After a few mistakes it did work perfectly! Thank you very much! People pay attention to this errors: remember to change "FULLSCREEN" to "WINDOW" when you edit your config file and after that, as many other suggested, before searching in HxD remember to click the hex editor tab, otherwise it will not find the string.
I have the file open in HxD but im finding no Hex editor tab. Not currently finding the string
No mods , not illegal , just a couple of arrangements at the config .txt's.. 👍🏻👍🏻exactly what i was looking for !

The weird thing is... why couldn't From/Bandai be bothered to just patch this in? If it takes us all less than 2 minutes to do it, surely it can't take that much work on their end to just make it natural for the game to select. :/

Love it. Works. My game kept on automaticly changing back to fullscreen mode so it was a bit of a faf but you can change file to WINDOW regardless.
You need to set the file to read only (after you have set it to windowed). See 0:29
@@ted_barrett I did put it to read only but It goes back to window mode. I also can't read the GraphicsConfig anymore, it;s full of ? ? ? ?

edit: for some reason NPCs and enemies on the edges of my monitor are moving at choppy framerates and then when they move to the center of my monitor then it is at normal 60 fps. so this isn't a flawless fix, but I have yet to get banned for it so there's that. using a 32:9 monitor for reference.

Not working in 2023. HEX changed, but in game resolution return in standart value from list of available resolutions

This does not work for me. I followed the exact steps, but as soon as i start the game, it´s in Full HD again. Even without any of these steps, whenever i´ve freshly installed the game it´s in Full HD, I set everything to 3440x1440 in the game settings, but as soon as i restart the game, it´s Full HD again.
The Dark Souls 1: Remaster doesn´t have any of these annoying issues.

Notice that you need to put the exact same resolution in GraphicsConfig and in HxD or it won't work.

Hey guys, if you are having an issue where you hit fullscreen and your screen just goes black and ends up squeezed or back to window, make sure Windows HD Color Settings is turned off in Win 10 settings. This is the only way i could get it to work on my LG Ultragear HDR monitor

It always reverts back to Fullscreen 1920x1080 and doesn't keep the window mode:/
edit: config is set to windowed mode, both resolutions are set, its on read only
adter closing the game on windowed mode (which works) it starts up in Fullscreen
Make sure your config actually contains the correct values - try opening it in a different text editor to see if it has saved properly. If not, disable read only mode, modify file, save, enable read only
@@ted_barrett I downloaded notepad++ and it showes the same, correct values. i reinstalled the game, made sure to delete every folder.. maybe it's something with GeForce experience? but there's a but that doesn't let me change the value's...
also, funnily enough.
when I'm in the game and it's windowed. i can't switch the the resolution from 3440x1440 to 2560... it just freezes and goes back. but when I set it to any random resolution and THEN to 2560 (everything in the game itself), it works... so random.
i honestly have no idea

My screen just becomes black after putting the game in fullscreen, with the music still playing in the background, then after a while the game changes back to windowed. I followed the tutorial precisely!
if HDR, try turning HD color settings off in Win 10

confirmed this hexedit still works, i had to manually find offset(h) 80 07 00 00 38 04 because ctrl+f did not work.
Worked perfectly, removed the black bars from my 16:10 screen.

Do everything step by step and it will work 100%. I am actually surprised, all the other methods other people use seem a lot more difficult - when in the hex editor (HxD) and searching for the original values - click on the Hex value tab and then search. Thank you to the creator of this omg you just made my Dark souls on pc experience so much better. One question - can this get me soft banned if I play online?
Thanks! As for the ban safety, I can't guarantee that you won't get banned but I haven't heard of anyone getting banned so far.

@@Honorth One person said their friend got banned. I tried to get details and asked if they had any mods installed etc but they never replied, and I think they have deleted their comment.
So idk if it was actually caused by this or not, or maybe they actually weren't banned but just thought they were.
I have over 120 hours played with this fix applied and haven't got banned, so for me it's easily worth the risk. But it's always up to your judgement.
