  • Check out our HOW TO video and DEMO of installing and upgrading a video doorbell transformer! If you are having any issues with your ring doorbell transformer, nest doorbell transformer, eufy doorbell transformer, then it may need to be replaced. You may also experience issues such as doorbell not working, short chimes, or the video doorbell is indicating that it is under powered. These can all be reasons for needing to upgrade your doorbell transformer. Do it yourself and watch this video of how to upgrade easily. Most newer video doorbells require 16-24v transformers and older homes can have much smaller transformers. You can purchase a replacement doorbell transformer at The Home Depot and Walmart, but we purchased on Amazon.

I had an issue when I first installed my Eufy doorbell as it wouldn't even power up. After finding your video and ordering the transformer via amazon and switching out the old one, my Eufy doorbell is now working and it was all because of this video!!!! I am in no shape or form an electrician but this video made it easy for me to swap out my transformer for my video doorbell. I had a 12V transformer before and this allowed me to upgrade to 16-24V transformer. ADT was very happy with the upgrade to install my new security system.

Super helpful!!! I’ve had the nest doorbell and when purchasing it at Home Depot I was informed my transformer was probably old and I’d need to update it. Long story short I went the battery route and one day when charging the battery someone stole a large, pink rock my grandmother had given me out front during broad day light but I didn’t have the damn footage so I want it hardwired. This was super helpful, I haven’t done it yet but simple, clear and useful instructions so thank you

Very interesting to me because around here in NY the transformer is almost always located on the breaker box, or within a foot or two of it, and then low voltage wire is run to the bell. Thanks for showing me this. Learned where to look if I can’t find it!

Yes, lots of different locations depending on regional trends and also ever building and contractor will do it a little differently, so sometimes you just have to look around if not finding it at first.

We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

I think I need to do this. I had my Ring Doorbell Pro 2 professionally installed a year ago. About nine months later it stopped working. I called support twice which was a waste of time. This video should resolve my Ring doorbell issue. I hope!

    • @TwoNerdEFamilies
      @TwoNerdEFamilies  3 роки тому +1

Thanks for watching our video and for posting your question. I would take a volt meter and just test that you're getting the proper voltage to the wires connecting to the doorbell. If no voltage reading then there may be a problem with the wiring and low voltage is sometimes caused when the wire is too long of a run for the voltage to carry strong enough to the other end. You may want to install the transformer closer in that case. If voltage is fine then it might be an issue with the doorbell itself and I would contact Ring about next steps to replace the unit. Best of luck!

Thanks so much! Very helpful -I have an Arlo and it wasn’t working because the transformer in our 1961 home is only 10 v 16 V.
Question: I Purchased a stronger transformer this week that is 16 V to 30 v And advertised but it’s compatible with Ring Cetera.
There are other things attached to the 10 v to 16 v older transformer. Do I just replace it with a new transformer or should I tone the door bell wires out and give it its own 16 v to 30 v transformer?

Sorry for the delayed response. It depends on what else is connected and if that will be enough total voltage to supply to everything. Some homes have multiple chimes or doorbells for different entrances. One transformer would be enough if running a video doorbell and an older analog doorbell for example, but running two or three video doorbells may require a more powerful or separate transformers in order to supply enough voltage to everything. Hope that helps!

Very nice and concise video. Thank you! One question regarding your eufy doorbell, how did you mount it to your siding? Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback and question. The doorbell comes with a bracket and screws, so I just tucked it under one of the strips below where the siding flares out so it was mounted closer to the wood behind the siding which allowed it to securely mount without pulling the siding in or cracking it. If your siding is like mine in shape and size, you don't want to go too tight on the lower screw when doing this as it starts to flare out again towards the bottom of the section you mount it too and you don't want to damage the siding. It still feels very secure, but you can also try notching out the siding with a multi-tool and mount the bracket directly to the OSB wood sheeting behind the siding if that's the type of home you have. Good luck and thanks again for checking out our video!

Great video! My Ring Door Bell has power and it records. When I ring the doorbell my chime doesn’t ring. I don’t hear anything.

Any issue installing this transformer on a 20A circuit vs 15A? We have easy access to a 20A near our existing doorbell wiring.

Thanks for this video! If you are a renter and you install the 16V transformer to be able to use a video doorbell, but then you want to take your video doorbell with you when you end the lease, will the 16V transformer be too much for the existing doorbell that was on the older transformer? or would it be safe enough? Thank you.

Is the chime alert the only problem with an underpowered transformer?
If you have a ring pro2 and a ring wired on different doors will they limit the output of the transformer?

If my current doorbell is a 6V and I need to get atleast 8V to support my new Ring Doorbell, would I JUST need to get a Transformer to put behind my old doorbell Chime?

My old system has no ground wire. Did you connect your ground wire to a copper wire or another white wire?
