Who Killed Richard Oland
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Richard Oland was a prominent business man in New Brunswick, his family were the owners of Moosehead Beers. However, when one day Richard Oland was found having been attacked in his own office, suspicion soon leads to someone very close to Richard Oland, that he may not have been on the best terms with.

What do you guys think about this case? Were the police too focused on Dennis or do you think he may have been involved?
I guess my question is, even though the blood evidence is scant, why is there any blood on his jacket at all?
Based on what I know (researched this one before) my opinion would be guilty, but not able to convict beyond a reasonable doubt.
@Backyard Brian I agree! I believe he's guilty, there are plenty of reasons for motive and the timing fits. Though somehow he's lucky enough to not have the evidence to prove 'beyond a reasonable doubt'. For such a gory murder it feels personal. Think about rage killings using knives, they have excessive stab wounds... just like the use of blunt force trauma Richard endured.
Ya know money is the root of all evil and when there's money involved in families somebody's going to get killed
He's guilty as SHI-T!! Of course he did it, Lucky Big Dick got away with it..
Only major problem that I have with this channel is that I've watched all the previous uploads, and two a week aint enough for me. Best channel on youtube. Love it.

It's just Mike. Half of these I've seen on some other UA-cam channel, but I watch every one of them. His unique delivery, refusal to mince words, and devilish wink at the end keep me hooked. Please say, 'in this old video.' IT'S YOUR TRADEMARK. Well, one of them.
We need more Michael

Between this case and the Shermans in Toronto, I'm starting to think it isn't safe to be a wealthy Canadian businessman. Particularly if you have disgruntled family members.
Allegedly.

I don't think having a vindictive relation, wealthy or not, Canadian or not, is an unusual thing in any old corner of the world.

Dennis: no

Outstanding detective skills. 😂

Yea. I wasn’t digging his interview skills. At all.
I had just watched another Canadian interrogation. The one of Colonel Russell what's his name (psycho/cross dressing serial killer) Compared to that detective...well it's embarrassing really.
Someone really hated the victim to bash him so badly and to keep doing so until he was a broken mess on the floor. That’s someone with close relations or ties that really was invested in seeing him dead, and also someone who had been very frustrated by their lack of ability to kill him until then.

Agreed! He was terrible!
No, he was using the right techniques. You can usually tell by how long of an answer the suspect gives to the first question.

Also, your witty sense of humor is just totally adorable, and perfect to lighten the mood during those crazy dark cases.
AMAZING content, Mike! Love ya
Jim is one hell of a guy, he does a wonderful work with the interviews and every detail behind one. That Chapter gives a full "mini-doc" vibe to the cases and it's very intriguing to see how it develops through time. Both are incredible youtube channels in my opinion.

Huh. I tried JCS - and the psychoanalysis was okaaay... But considering it's made by a group of people and it's narrated by a chap called Kazzume something, it didn't feel as authentic and impressive as Mike's one man band (Mike, for all that, has exceptional production values and commentary!).... 🤔
Lol, the son turned the interrogation around on the detective.
"Is there something your not telling me?"
To be fair, his father was murdered and they wouldn't tell him how it happened.
@@hollystiener16 Because he was a suspect. You don't tell all the details of a murder to a suspect. You want them to slip up and tell you a detail about the murder that wouldn't be known unless they committed it. That's why they don't reveal everything to the public right away and they ask specific questions like "How we're they killed" or "Where we're they killed". If they can answer those questions and that information wasn't released to the public or told to them by law enforcement, they're guilty.
@@Zeroshiki I am aware of that. I have been watching and reading true crime for over 20 years. They usually say something, without giving out the details.
In Canada it's legal to lie to suspects. It's a valid question
Anyone as cool calm and collected with the cops and who asks questions instead of answering the questions he's asked is guilty.
Come on. If it was a hit man or even a simple robbery they would have shot the guy and that's it.
The person who did this was personal with him and hated his guts. His son.
And he would also have been fed up of the questioning and complained and asked to go home....
As a Maritimer myself, I can attest to the fact that we have probably one of the worst police forces in the western world who are completely incapable of sorting out anything more server then domestic disputes and traffic violations. And their investigations are shockingly poor.
EDIT: also have to say, moosehead isn't great, but the beer actually named "Olands" is pretty good.

@Wishful Thinking If you lived through it, okay. Some of us, those in our early 30's, don't remember a lot about the early 90's fashion besides what we see in photos/commercials because well we were children. Some people, those in their early 20's and late teens don't remember them at all and the fashion climate has changed to a shocking degree. If you don't think someone can be shocked by older fashion well then that's you but don't hold others to your standards of 'disturbing'. It's a broad term, not just reserved for the utmost horrifying things. Her hair was kinda disturbing, I think that because it was not something you'd see anyone wear today, and the dreamlike pink lighting and ugly offcolored mustard background add up to a dreamlike strange atmosphere to it, which was a bit of a standard then. If you don't like that oh well?

During the interview he (Dennis) never once said that he loved his father or had any positive feelings towards him in any way.

It’s crazy to me how guilty people often can’t help themselves from repeating how difficult the victim was as a person and how hard they were to get along with. Like over and over, almost as if they can’t help but vent about it. To a detective who’s looking specifically for a person who may have had a grudge against them.
That man’s son didn’t have the body language of someone who could brutally rip and tear a human being to shreds.
exactly my thoughts, he looks weak and wimpy, I don't think this guy would have the balls to do it beside a major psy breakdown, and if that did happen, he wouldn't be sitting and talking like that
But he surely had the money and have someone do it for him.
Maybe not but the sheer brutality of the murder indicates someone with an absolutely bitter hatred of the man. The list of suspects would be awfully short I'd say.
@@intuitivamkt yea but it was an old man so I don't think it would take too much in strength terms plus the guy was seated also so very disadvanted in terms of any physical conflict

Dennis had a bad relationship with his dad and needed him 'sorted'.
Dennis however doesn't look like he's capable of inflicting the horrendous injuries found on Robert; they seemed a little too severe.
Dennis meets his dad at the office to check out 'the lay of the land'. He then leaves and tells a hitman that Robert is all alone and arranges to meet the assassin nearby after the job is done.
This is when some of his dad's blood gets transferred on to the jacket.
So Dennis didn't actually do the killing but knows who did. That's why, when questioned by the police, his body language clearly gives him away. Take a look at how Dennis's arms are crossed over his upper body in a defensive pose at the start of his interrogation, relaxing only later.into the interview.
PS:- I COULD BE WRONG, lol!
What bothers me most is not once during the interrogation did he say I would never do that...or even he loves his father...like maybe if he wasn't around but his dad was some sort of a presence in his life.
How many times did Dennis say that his dad was not easy to get along with? If he did not do it (why was there blood on his jacket?), was someone trying to set him up?
@@user-mv9tt4st9k I feel like he did it... He's just so cold about it... Like there's no emotion about the lose of his father
I believe he did it himself..he lacked remorse from the start. I'd have been somewhat upset speaking about my father's murder. His body language and mumbling was quite off too.
@@Kingadaton
Correct; no love lost between father and son.
Money is, as always, a factor but for ten grand you might find someone prepared to do the 'dirty deed' which then has the added benefit of softening/dilluting the guilt from Dennis's perspective.

Keep up the great work!
Crossing your arms during an interrogation are signs that someone has something to hide. Body language speaks volumes!
It’s Canada. They don’t have body language
Nah, there are shy people like me who feel better crossing arms when doing small talk with friends.
It seems like a very emotionally charged killing. I don’t see a hit man being THIS emotionally invested in his ‘job’ and certainly would want to leave as little evidence as possible, I would imagine, but maybe he had a bad day and needed to get some anger out. To me, this seems like it can only be the.. handy work of someone the victim was close too. Dennis sits very closed off and slumped/slouched in his interviews in what seems to be an attempt at making himself smaller and ‘protecting’ himself with his arms and/or legs crossed. Protecting himself against what? Perhaps the obvious prison/death sentence (not necessarily ‘legally’) that follows a first / second degree murder conviction. All in all I think Dennis and the brother somehow pulled this off together. I would like to see the other interviews though.
And that sums up my two cents.
Edit: In reference to the jacket - *St. John* ‘s freezing - I would think he also had an outer coat which could’ve been worn during the murder and tossed with the phone. Please note, pure speculation made for fun, all of it.
His son didn't even cry or show any emotion.
To be fair, that detective is basically resting his balls on Dennis' face. Of all these interrogations I've seen, I've never seen one that widely spread. As a woman I might be uncomfortable with that, so as a man, maybe it's off-putting, too.
I'm not saying Dennis is innocent - his other verbal responses, etc, were strange.
BrinyGale good point re the coat.
@Toni Remer just press the thumbs up. DUH.
growlinghands Lol, yes, that was, unfortunately, unmissable!
God that interview, Dennis acted so guilty. Giving tonnes of information without any prompts, getting defensive when asked a simple question about his previous response.
Looking at the interrogation video, it’s a body language experts dream. Look how closed off he is with his arms crossed the whole time. That by itself doesn’t prove guilt, but it is certainly a huge indicator of self-soothing and defensive posturing.
Who wouldn't be defensive when being questioned by the police about the murder of their father. The police try to do that.
@@patrickj4747 I don’t disagree, however, people who are innocent tend to behave differently with their body language. Same with people who are guilty.

As soon he showed the pic of Dennis in the beginning I thought 'oh its definitely going to be him' 😂
Justice is very expensive but if you have the cash, you can buy your own justice.😡
Yup just ask o.j. he'll tell you.
"Something that could have been solved over a nice cold mooshead" LMAO!
cop 1 "so we got this guy we need to interview, rich son of a prominent family. might know about his father brutal death since he was the last person with him.. who should do it?"
cop 2 "how about Pete. New guy who just got out of the academy last week."
cop 1 "think hes ready?"
cop 2 "buddy, he watches *CSI* "
cop 1 " *_nice_* "
My gut tells me Dennis didn’t do it his body language screamed I’m uncomfortable being questioned but he seems meek to begin with . I honestly don’t think he physically could’ve taken his father
If u hit someone in the backof the head hard enough', you're fighting an incapacitated person
Never trust the quiet ones. Jk but not really
@Frank PittsI doubt it, it's easy to incapacitate someone with one blow. Especially if a foreign object is involved.
Mike could get better "P Or" if he brought back his AMAZING mustache!!!
My dad used to drink Moosehead ALL the time when I was a kid (early 2000s) I’m sad this happened. With the being said, I’m not surprised at this verdict. Canada is on one when it comes to jail time. We really need to rethink our system.
It seems like he had someone come in to kill his father.
nah i don't think. mans skull was making daisys within the hour... you gotta be realllllyyyy pissed no fucking paid to do that surely.. maybe not
He did it. I saw a different program where they lay out more of the persecution case. He sure looked guilty to me.
The fact he was sitting with folded arms, sighns of hiding something, also offering up lot's of idea's of how he came to die
Also the big elephant in the room last person to see alive,!
I hope you're never on a jury.
@@DD-d6d3 why's that Judge?
Plot twist, it was Dennis's uncle (Dick's brother)! But seriously, wtf?
I was thinking the same thing 🤣
I mean...
I wondered that about his brother. I wondered about someone who was involved with his mistress, as well. A disgruntled employee. I just can’t believe Dennis would not have more blood on him. His shoes, his pants....they should have been covered with DNA if Dick’s brain matter was found on his back.
Or them all.
@@WyattRyeSway Watch the fifth estates youtube video on the case...theres a lot more detail left out in this video that overwhelmingly shows Dennis is guilty. The guy 100% did it. just walked on a technicality.
Mike, you summarized New Brunswick quite well. Old money, cronyism, and real who dunnit (not really).
The father's blood on the jacket convinced me of his guilt.
I hope I'm never being tried with you on my jury- my family shares all kinds of stuff and there's no telling what traces of us all you might find at each other's houses.
Also, would you not think it was strange that he supposedly wore that when he killed him but it wasn't absolutely covered with blood? The pictures of the office show blood splattered all over the desk and floor. Hed have to have stood over him and hit him repeatedly to crush his head in like it said. That person would be pretty bloody walking out of there. Yet there's only a small spot on the cuff? That to me looks more like sloppy police work, like when they found that guy's DNA in one small spot in the back seat of that girl's car but apparently no where else even though she'd been strangled with 3 different ligatures. Makes zero sense to consider someone guilty for that, especially with how unreliable DNA evidence can be.
@@mommy2libras maybe he didn't kill him, but it's also possible and even likely he took the jacket off inside, beat him, then put it back on ya know. I agree its not enough for a life sentence, especially if he didn't do it.
I hope you're never actually chosen to be on a jury if you're really that dumb.
You have to have tree Moose Heads for the beer to really grow on ya.
After tree bottles nearly every brand grows on you :-)
@@dutchbiker4825 - lol Fair enough.
My gut says guilty. Someone that gets into an argument often with someone else that is close to them would be ready to go at it for longer than a few minutes. Body temperature rises, the jacket is taken off to defend whatever ground they are trying to and the jacket would be put somewhere in the vicinity (better pictures of the room lay out would have been better to see if this is true but it looks like there was nothing you would throw a jacket on close to where the body is found from the perspective). Next thing ya know...small amounts of blood splatter on the jacket.
I live a stones throw from Dennis' home. I am sure this is a major misdirection. There was a man who arrived at the scene of the crime at the initial reports of the time the sounds were heard in a black BMW captured on camera. The witness' changed their time of hearing the sounds to suit the police and were caught lying. It sucks that our police force did such a terrible job investigating, and they apparently just gave up now. They aren't chasing any leads, they are just mad that the world sees them as fools and decided not to pursue, that's how sure of themselves that Dennis did it. Tunnel vision for sure.
Canadian interview/interrogations are so polite and quiet,,,
*Moosehead Beer.* : "It's to die for!"
I love this channel and the host Mike is great. Love his voice. He makes watching addictive.

Dude did it. For the judge to get out there and be that adamant that he didn't do it is suspicious in itself!
I think that’s his defense lawyer. They dress funny for court in Canada.
Just a simple question. If he left before his Dad was murdered. How did the small speck of blood get on his jacket? I feel like that should have been looked into more.
Thanks Mike, for yet another wonderful video! A fan from Nigeria.
Think about how hard someone with wealth had to work to prove their innocence. There are so many people in jail right now who did nothing wrong but could not afford a good defense.
