It´s always depressing when a murder case is still unsolved after so many years. Let´s celebrate then 12-year-old Melissa Repass, a real world hero. Thank you for your courage and your strength, Melissa!
The part where the girl said “they shot me 5 times” made me so sad. I still have a hard time believing there’s people in this world that would shoot and try and kill kids.
Well, I used to have a hard time believing anyone would kill an innocent. Yet, we willingly and happily massacre billions of them every year. And eat them. So why the hell would any thinking person be surprised.
I've thought many times about becoming a dispatcher but calls like this are why I haven't. You can hear the air whistling through the hole in her lung, jfc.
I've never been shot, but I especially can't comprehend taking FIVE BULLETS as a child and still being able to stay relatively calm and make an informative 9-1-1 call. She did an amazing job 🖤
@@rylandavis2976 .22s can often be more dangerous the higher caliber rounds for example m16s use a .223 the danger is the bullet bouncing around your insides. There's some truly horrible people in this world, thank god they're so few and the majority of human beings in this world have empathy and genuinely good people.
I am from Las Cruces and cannot thank you enough Mike for covering this tragedy. Hearing more details and the 911 call brought me to tears. Many rumors exist, the last I heard was that one of the two perpetrators was killed in Juarez, Mexico though I don't know what proof there is. A very horrible crime indeed, inconceivable that anyone would shoot a child. Melissa, your bravery and strength are amazing. May God bless the victims of this crime.
Billy I agree with you. I thought I was kinda hard til I heard that little girl talking to the 911 operator. Not sure how he was able to stay tear free. Melted my ♥️
Yes, she was an amazing little girl. I'm shot 5 times and it hurts. That brought me undone. She knew exactly how to get help and what help they needed. Agree Tim, faced with that the dispatcher must have felt overwhelmed. He did ask a couple of questions twice, he was thrown for a minute but he sure got help there fast. Just not fast enough to save more of those poor victims 😞
That little girl, wow, she has the heart of a lion. "It *is* on fire!" plus a million other reasons. Strong young lady right there. I hope her life has brought her many wonderful things.
Bless her heart. Such a strong little girl, I do pray that she’s had a good life ever since. I’d not heard of this horrible incident but I’m planning to visit Las Cruces next year and this video appeared in my UA-cam search. My heart breaks for everyone involved.
Yep, I almost fast-forwarded towards the end. Just about hit the limits of what I can take. I serve as a volunteer Catholic minister at one of the big hospitals downtown. I've seen many many patients in various degrees of suffering. It's never "easy", but those are adults. Dealing with sick kids is something else entirely. A child suffering in pain is...intolerable for me. Can't say I cried, but that 911 call tore me up pretty deep. Hardest thing I've watched in a while.
right? It's amazing, she was even ready to grab an extinguisher and put out the fire with 5 bullet holes in her body. It's a shame the operator on the phone didn't hear her.
Hearing Melissa make that call just breaks my heart. I’m amazed at how relatively calm she remained, still giving clear information. "No there IS fire."
@Tyler More AND she had been shot FIVE times, surrounded by her dead loved ones...If I was her age and went through that I wouldn't have been able to do anything but cry. What a brave kid
I lived right behind this bowling alley until I was 25. I was 19 when this happened and still remember it like it happened yesterday. The aftermath of this was insane and they questioned everyone, including myself who was waken up from people running behind our house around the time of shooting, and my little sister who cut across the bowling alley parking lot to drive onto Solano on her way to take her SAT’s that morning. She didn’t see anyone or hear anything. It was such a horrific time that still haunts me to this day.

Thank you Mike for speaking with a normal voice. So many of these UA-camrs that cover mysteries use this fakey creepy droning voice that drops down low at the end of every sentence, and it drives me crazy. WHEW, talk about rip your heart out. What an incredible little BIG hero 🥺💕
There are some pretty bad 911 calls out there. This one was sad, and of course the incident itself is disturbing, but it's not as nerve-wracking as some of the ones I've heard. One that'll always stay with me was Christopher Rains' call. The POS shot his infant baby in the face with a .45 right in front of the mother as he held her, all because the child's mother didn't want to be with him and admitted to seeing another man. Rains had actually asked her if she'd seen the other guy's junk, FFS, either shortly or immediately prior to murdering the child. Then he dropped the baby on the floor and told her, "I hope it was worth it." He then immediately called 911 and confessed everything, sounding for the most part remorseful but also spending a lot of the call whining that he was going to jail for the rest of his life, and saying that he was going to kill himself. There are a few points where you can hear the child's mother wailing in the background, and it's truly heartbreaking. The 911 operator was amazing, though. She was able to speak to that POS like she actually cared about his life, and she had the most compassionate understanding tone as she told him not to hurt himself or anyone else. She was not only a consummate professional, but also an angel.
Not really, he couldn't figure out how to just say that there was a fire started, she told him twice there was a fire started, he's like "she thinks there might be a fire, she smells smoke". That part I was like wtf
@kinG iZZy Pretty sure that's not racial bias. Pretty sure that's more like a kid is giving a description of events going on and also focusing on the previously mention information and routing EMS to the scene.
Scorch428 I understand what you’re saying, but you have to think that her mind and body was probably in shock. She was shot 5 times, and saw/heard her mother and many other people she cared about shot and murdered. A child witnessed all of that...and your thought is “poor racist child”. It wouldn’t harm people with the mindset you portray to try and be empathetic for a child. Jfc, have some compassion for humankind.
Scorch428 tbh the dispatcher could have asked the question better, he didn’t ask what their race was, he asked if they were “black or white or” and she just answered the first thing she heard. She was just a little kid who got shot dude, it wasn’t malevolent racism on her behalf.
I have to say the adults and Melissa's life did a wonderful job training her and teaching her how to speak to the dispatcher. She was so eloquent, calm, clear, and concise. I wish more parents would train their children like this. She was such a brave little girl.
so they were on their way out, then saw the kids and decided to shoot? I dont get it... Why not wear masks? Why let the initial witness who can ID you go free yet kill everyone else including children? Wtf is going on here....
And they usually go to a day care or be with mom but she was having classes. Poor mom imagine the guilt. I wished at least one of the three survived. But seeing all of them dead including both kids made me cry more than the call.
Hearing the 911 call broke my heart. As someone who was shot at 18, that was already a tough time. I can’t imagine not only being 12, but also being shot 5 times. I lost my mom too in the same incident and this just brought me to tears.

I'm a few months away from 50, and I've been interested in crime stories and forensics since childhood. Took a ton of Criminal Justice courses in college and university. I watch videos, documentaries, and read books on heinous crimes and horrible criminals. I've been an avid viewer of your channel for a few months now, and I greatly enjoy your videos. Sometimes the stories make me a bit sad, or disgusted, or frustrated, or outright angry. However, I must admit to having become so jaded and fatalistic and cynical about our species that its rare that a story like this truly gets to me. Honestly, its how I cope. But listening to young Melissa on that 911 call, hearing her say "Please hurry, it hurts" brought tears, and "Please hurry, my mommy" just cracked me wide open, and I wept. I had to stop the video for a while, and I pretty much never do that. That child was so brave, she was made of iron. And for her more than anyone else, it hurts me to know this crime remains unsolved. Please keep doing what you do, Mike. We need the reminders of these unsolved crimes, and reminders of the importance of justice for victims like Melissa. Thank you.
Very well said. I also had to stop the video for a minute. It left me nauseous and cold. When she said "My mommy" I couldn't handle it. Having survived trauma myself, I could identify with what Ida said. It's with you. Everyday. All day. In some way. Always there. And to know the killers were never identified! To constantly be questioning who, why, and what if...Its an incredible weight to carry through life. I also agree with you about Mike. He's great. I could easily imagine him working for a show like Dateline or having his own show. I appreciate the respect and sympathy he shows for the victims.
What really struck me was how she got the information over to the handler so calmly, adults can go to pieces, that little girl was crystal clear on every point, just amazing. Even though there was an adult on the phone with her, she did not fold just so concise, I think she would be a gift, when she grows , to become part of law inforcement, paramedic, military, she has nerves of steel. Bless her heart, I hope she has all the support she needs, forever, to get over what she went through.

Yeah I think this is the only video of That Chapter not undercut with jokes and poking fun at idiot criminals. There were some references made in the beginning to The Big Lebowski (which I mean.. he had to) but the rest was all very solemn. I think this one was different because of that 9-1-1 call. It wasn’t a short clip like most. It was a long, detailed call from a 12 year old girl who was shot 5 times with 6 others shot around her, in a building that was on fire. The tone was different. I’m a grown man whom most would describe as pretty tough and generally stoic, definitely not outwardly effected by even the most emotionally distressing things. I’ve never cried at a funeral though, I’ve been to many for loved ones I was very close to and was very sad to lose. With that said, I’m not ashamed to admit that as I listened to this during work and had to go to the bathroom because the sound of that young girl being so brave and tough and generally calm, despite obviously being very scared and very badly injured, as she answered all the operators questions really brought me to uncontrollable tears. I wished I could have been there to help her. Melissa was a true hero. I’m still feeling it.

For real, that poor girl...

That poor, brave child on that call. Horrendous.

I hope she remembers how strong she is ! Instead of looking at it any other way .

When he asked how many people were hurt, and she started counting what she was looking at.. 💔😭

This is what broke my heart 😔
And while being shot 5 times herself and still just worrying about her mommy and wanting to put out the fire !!!

I actually expected her to count like that. Didn't make it any less sad, though.
Melissa was the hero of this story. What a trooper. Thanks to that brave girl who stepped up in the midst of chaos and disaster, lives were saved.

Luckily the gunman was using a 22lr and not a bigger round. Otherwise it would be much less likely anyone survived.
@@rylandavis2976 .22s can often be more dangerous the higher caliber rounds for example m16s use a .223 the danger is the bullet bouncing around your insides. A .45, for example, is much more likely to be a through and through shot which is MUCH less likely to be fatal. .223s are on the floor for being outlawed by NATO as they "roll" end over end in the air which cause them to easily bounce off bones and ricochet all around

Holy hell, a 911 call has never brought me to tears like this. Her concern for her mother losing her...I felt that. All the while in the middle of a literal nightmare in horrible pain, asking if she can get up and put the fire out. If I end up with half the courage she has, I'll be a lucky woman.
Then he dropped the baby on the floor and told her, "I hope it was worth it."
He then immediately called 911 and confessed everything, sounding for the most part remorseful but also spending a lot of the call whining that he was going to jail for the rest of his life, and saying that he was going to kill himself.
Sometimes big courage comes in small packages.
Probably one of the more moving things I've ever listened to.... I was not prepared for that

Yea. She clearly says she can see it
@kinG iZZy Pretty sure that's not racial bias. Pretty sure that's more like a kid is giving a description of events going on and also focusing on the previously mention information and routing EMS to the scene.
She twice asked if it was ok to use the fire extinguisher.
The dispatcher still wasn't sure there was a fire

Ya but she racist against black ppl...she didnt see them, but...they were black! Poor racist child.

@@Porter5habazz right on i def respect your opinion, there have been some 911 calls where i just cant believe how terrible the dispatcher is
I'm a few months away from 50, and I've been interested in crime stories and forensics since childhood.

Give that girl a billion gold medals for that young girl and her ability to stay so calm under such duress. That was unbelievable.
Wow melissa is such a G. She handled that perfectly. That breaks my heart
The dispatcher was so wonderful and gentle with her, he did an amazing job keeping her calm and reassuring her. He surely must've been a father.
Yes! Definitely thought the same thing. ❤️❤️❤️
yes exactly, the first dispatcher I actually liked
@Brian Jones I thought maybe he just wanted to keep her company and not let her feel alone
No he was useless, he should have been asking her the condition of the other victims and asking where shed been shot to relay to the paramedics instead of asking her cop related questions.
Yeah, nah.
Oof! Be forewarned, this is an especially difficult Chapter. Hearing Melissa's call was absolutely heartbreaking & horrifying, but damn, she held it together. She's the definition of "true grit"! Thanks Mike, for sharing this. Perhaps it may help get some attention & resolution to this truly tragic case.
Thanks.. I should've read comments 1st.. that caught me off guard
I don’t think any of us could make any light hearted comment. This one just hits you in the gut.
I've been bingewatching your content over the past week, and this is the one that finally broke me. That 911 call from a 12 year old girl with multiple gun shot wounds... Just, what the hell, man. It's possible, or even probable, that she saved her mother's life with that call. I cried like a baby.
Poor Melissa :( I hope she's living a happy life now.
She died unfortunately.
FelipeFiveFiveSix really 😥😰
Roman T no she literally didn’t, he’s just an asshole making shit up about the story. She survived.
@@ItssaLyssa96 But she isn't dead now either.
omg that 911 call was absolutely heart breaking...she did so well, omg, so articulate at 12, i'm 27 and can barely call to order a pizza
Oh my god same
everyone’s already said it a thousand times but holy shit that little girl was tough. after being shot 5 times she still managed to stay calm during the 911 call AND wanted to put out the fire herself.. wow. she seriously deserves a medal of some kind, that’s amazing.
I literally cried by the end of that 911 call. That poor young girl was so brave
what breaks my heart the most, is during the call with Melissa, I think you can hear someone in the background struggling to breath.
I'm so sad that she had to experience that. No one ever should.
"Please hurry, my mommy" - yea, now I am crying at work. That poor, tough little girl.
Laurissa R “it hurts” is what got me
@@cbrreezzyy69 yeah that is so heart breaking 😓
That hurt so much to hear, I was hoping she'd make it to see her mommy again :)
@alex lu troll alert
That was so heart wrenching
That little girl has the strength of 10 people. That level of composure in that situation is insane. Most adults couldn't even do that. It's just sick to know that those guys are probably still walking around out there. Its a really messed up case.
That was a hard 911 call. It broke my heart when she cried for her Mom. What a tough girl.
That tough-as-nails 12 year old was extremely coherent and gave a better 911 call than most adults (who aren't shot). Bless her.
Mike, as you know this is a special case for me.... God willing I'll be well enough to host the candlelight vigil next week. I can't thank you enough for doing this at my request. You're one of the kindest people I've have the pleasure to know. A million times over, thank you and may the Creator reward you with a special place by the fire.
Thank you again, you have my eternal gratitude and loyalty. 😇😇😇😇🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤🧡💛💚💙💜
i thought you said 'a special place _in_ the fire'
i was like, yike, that went downhill fast
thirty years ago, eh? i'll definitely light a candle for you and the victims on the 10th. love from canada xo
@@hogkan thank you, that means a lot to me, it really does.
I live in Philly. If I had the money to spare, I'd fly out there just to attend the vigil. Peace and goodness be with you, and my sincere hope is that someday the victims get the justice they deserve.
I lived there in Las cruses for a little while. The people i was staying with told me alot about the area visited the indian ruins white missile range a few mountains but they never told me about this. Sorry for your loss and prayers for everyone who has been effected by this.
@@manueltovar6771 thank you. When I started setting up this vigil, I was shocked at how many younger people didn't even know about it. Breaks my heart. How can you solve something if nobody knows about it?
My God, that little girl broke my heart. You can hear people dying in the background. smh...
The little girl was clearly in shock, thankfully. Our basic, primal survival instincts are still extremely relevant, you don't realize until your life is in danger just how much abuse a body can take and keep on fighting. She's a hero.
I've watched many of your videos and countless others about evil people doing unspeakable things, but gawd... listening to Melissa's 911 call was absolutely gut-wrenching. Ugh, that got to me. My heart. Such a strong little girl, bless her.
I never ever cry, but for some reason. That call brought tears to my eyes
My heart hurt when I heard 12 year old Melissa's call.
@alex lu you are one funny edgelord eh? play this passage to your paretns and say what your comment was they will be so proud
I used to bowl at this bowling alley when I lived in Las Cruces. I can't believe that this happened there and they opened it again like nothing happened!
Yeah, I'm the same way. We used to go there all the time growing up.
And the person who opened it again so quickly was the father and grandfather of 2 of the victims. Talk about cold
@@jessicabarczewski1910 that's a bit judgmental, people grieve differently
It isnt disrespectful to the victims in anyway to open use the places they were killed in. People are so weird.
@@jessicabarczewski1910 The bowling alley likely was the family's source of income.
What a brave, intelligent little girl. Just heartbreaking.
Las Cruces is my hometown. I watched the first two minutes but couldn’t continue. The city still feels the loss and pain of not knowing who committed this atrocious crime.
Where is it

So the cops found Jack Shit did they? That guy always seems to be around when there's a crime.
@Lamoka Omegadyne He's always lurking around there somewhere and when the cops find this Jackshit, they let him go, everytime! Follow me here but maybe, just maybe if they held on to him they'd be finally solving some of these there crimes.
Always makes me look at the cops
@@finnibertlunchiken7792 You ruined the joke. The original comment was subtle, this one was on-the-nose and you essentially retold the same joke but in a much worse manner.
@@FARecordsJF It's the Dunning-Kruger Effect, the UA-cam comments section is full of people who are slightly off, yet they truly believe they are hilarious.
@Lamoka Omegadyne wow you're a dumbass
The way Melissa was able to give all that information while being badly injured and traumatized is beyond amazing, she's a hero.
