I think my favorite Dave Grohl story is when he met Lemmy of Motorhead for the first time, and he invited Lemmy to one of his gigs thinking nothing of it. Lemmy actually showed up, then went backstage to meet Grohl (smoking and drinking as he normally does). Lemmy then looked and saw Dave Grohl's newborn daughter was in the room and promptly put out his cigarette as Grohl introduced him to his wife.

Dave spoke of this at Lemmy's funeral. SUCH a moving speech!

Indeed, now loook up Paulina the drummer from the warning, she plays like Grohl, Moon, Peart, Bonham, Portnoy, and she's the lead singer in several songs. She and her sisters are amazing human beings too, at first glance they look like models or popstars but they're animals at playing rock lol

Dave Grohl is not only an amazing singer and musician, but he took the phrase, "Break a leg" literally in 2015 when he fell of the stage and broke his leg then proceeded to keep playing while a splint was being put on his leg. What a legend!

I absolutely love it when you just rock out. Your analysis and expertise are all delightful and wonderful and very interesting and informative. But when you just let loose and allow the music to take you over, it's truly charming. You strike me as one of those friends we all have who we just have to be SURE comes with us to every show, because we know how much fun it's going to be just to be with them as they lose themselves in it. What a cool thing you have going here.

  • @GregMcNeish

I love your sweater! Immediately jumped out at me.
Dave Grohl is such an interesting artist and obviously a captivating performer. Something that is so key to his longevity is that he wild screams are actually very light in vocal intensity. It begins as an incredibly airy sound, similar to Brian Johnson of AC/DC or Devon Townsend, and then Grohl just adds volume through breath control without increasing the tension. It's a surprisingly delicate technique that produces this aggressive sound without putting too much strain on the voice.
Great video, Beth, and I'm glad you had fun with it.

I still love "These Days" and "Best of You" more, "Walk", and then "Pretender" behind them, but I still do love the song and lyrics for how it got me into listening more to Foo Fighters and then the songs I actually love now, the ones I mentioned.

And he was confused when he heard the song, because, he was like, hey, I just normally yells these verses. She was actually singing the verses and he kind of just sat there and watched.

I tend to look at live videos through a different filter as a concert photographer. This sounds amazing and the stage is very cool. But I would have hated trying to shoot this show! They're so far away from any of the edges, and the lights on the floor of the stage would really screw with the lighting!
Would have been damn cool to be at one of these shows, though. I've covered them 3 times in 2 years, and they are just such an incredible live band.

The entire band is awesome. Dave Grohl is not only rhythm guitarist and lead singer of the Foo Fighters, but he was *of course* also the drummer of Nirvana, as well as Them Crooked Vultures, and a short stint with Queens of the Stone Age. Pat Smears, of course, was already in Nirvana together with Dave Grohl, first as a touring guitarist, later also in the studio. Taylor Hawkins' backing vocals are awesome, and he sings mean lead as well (in his own band, he is the lead singer). Check the Foo Fighters' cover of Led Zeppelin's Rock'n'Roll where Taylor and Dave swap places, and, oh, a certain Mr. Jimmy Page and Mr. John Paul Jones join the band on lead guitar and bass.

Hi from Mexico Beth. I like your reactions very much. There's an all girl Mexican rock band that I think you may find very interesting. They are called The Warning, and they made a Foo Fighter cover video of this song "The pretender". Check it out. The Warning has already two albums with their own music and lyrics (XXI Century Blood and Queen of the Murder Scene). Right now they are recording their third album. Three young sisters from Monterrey, MEXICO (Daniela, 20, guitar; Paulina, 18, drums; Alejandra, 15, bass). They went viral in 2014 with their Enter Sandman Metallica cover made in their home basement. I know I'm not a patreon, but I think you are not going to regret this recommendation. 😃🇲🇽🎸🎼😷

Awesome seeing you bop along to the force of nature that is Dave Grohl. I don't agree with him politically, but he's an amazing artist and always been a fan of Foo. Naturally, as I'm an old Nirvana cronie - saw them live in '93.

Just imagine you are playing classical chello and someone phones up the orchestra administration and asks if they could hire a musician for a rock song - and you think "ok, well that will be for a studio recording" and you end up on the stage with the foo fighters in a live show. I don't say it happened this way but it is just some random thought that made me smile

Would love to see your take on there song, "a cold day in the sun" I believe it's cald. It's a song Taylor is singing. I love the Sex Pistols cover they did, I believe it was a celebration of the Motorhead's cover of this song. Since Dave and Lemmy where good friends.
