These pileateds are really special and rare. The first time I saw one was in Williamsburg, Virginia. I was in the backyard working on a path through some woods we have. I could hear a tapping sound and noticed something floating down from above. Pieces of wood were falling down on me like flakes. There he was about 20-feet up in a tree. I felt blessed.
I watched it live and told my friends it was amazing! I mused that it would be a highlight it was so amazing and I’m glad you made this available so they can see it too! The last PW was there long after this video stopped - I loved how the others just gave them their space and did not interrupt their feeding.
I can't wait to go up north to my cottage next month. We started seeing pileated woodpeckers a few years ago at our feeders and they've been there ever since. I can recognize their calls and the sound of their pecks from miles away. Since I live in a densely populated area in Detroit, I don't see these guys in the winter, which makes me all the more excited for springtime.
I have had six different species of woodpeckers in my Chicago backyard, including red-headed woodpeckers, hairy, Downey, red bellied, flicker, and sapsucker. Would love to see a Pileated, but they are very rare around here. The red-headed is rare too.
I get Downy, Hairy and Red bellied woodpeckers, with the red mohawks. The male red bellieds are showy, loud and announce their presence, I adore them. 😍 The one male tries to bend over backwards to get seeds from the feeder while at the suet cakes, he's so funny. I would love to have a pileated woodpecker show up. It's so much fun watching them all.
I was happy seeing 2 Pileated's but then a third showed up 🤯 plus the Red-bellied AND a Hairy. So cool!!!!
WOW!!!🤩🤩🤩 5 peckers, three species at the same time!!! Never seen this before!👀 More please!😉😍
Right!?! What a treat 🪶
Look at the goldn hour trees in the background! Stunning birds! ❤
Wow! Everybody except the Downy and the Flicker are here. I just saw my first Piliated 2 days ago 😊

I love woodpeckers! This is amazing.
I love woodpeckers. North of Seattle, I get a lot of Flickers, Hairy and Downy woodpeckers. They love suet feeders!
Wow! Oh my goodness I would die of happiness if I saw this live at my feeder. Love to see all the woodpeckers. 💕 thanks for this!
The color of the sunrise makes the whole event even more spectacular.

Thanks. Witch one was Woody? 😍
wow
what kind of rat or ground squirrel was feeding at 9:13 PM on April 9th?
Clearly the suet feeder was a hit. Is that plain suet, or does it contain nuts and/or seeds?
This is the power of God. 🤔
