- I've been using the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for four days now, and I'm ready to share my updated thoughts! It's seperate, but ONLY if you go to Additional Settings and turn on Control notification sounds
Love my 14U. Battery for me was dubious also in the first 4 or 5 days then suddenly it improved pretty significantly. Get a full day of use now with about 6 hours of SOT or so with about 25-30% left at the end of the day. It's more than acceptable in my usage now.
Same here. First few days I had to charge it twice a day with just a few hours of SOT, but today it's great can't complain
That's good to know, thank you. What I notice is that the camera and gallery app draw a lot of battery. Hope it will improve.
@@JMTMarc yea. When the Gallery app has permission to sync with Google Photos it seemed to make a difference. I turned the link off as I don't need to sync tens of thousands of photos to the built in app 😉
That could be the reason. I'll have to try that out. I have synchronization enabled because I like that I can delete photos from the Gallery and then they also get removed from Google Photos. But that will be the first thing I deactivate if the battery life does not improve.

Kommst du auf die 4-5 std on screen Zeit mit viel Kamera Nutzung? Ohne viel Kamera Nutzung wäre der Akku sonst echt sehr enttäuschen mit 4-5 std bei nem 5000mah Akku
Leider nein. Der Akku ist echt die Schwachstelle, wenigstens bei meinem Nutzerverhalten. Auch ohne Kameranutzung geht der recht schnell in die Knie.

It all comes down to how important the camera on a smartphone is for you. The 14 Ultra is superior in terms of camera quality. But the Xiaomi 14 is still very food, as far as I'm concerned.
For better quality video There is Motioncam Pro , it can do 14bit log video on 14 u. the video quality is near mirrorless quality.

Is the mobile heating, When does it heat? During normal day to day usage also will it heat?
No! For me it only gets warm when gaming or recording video.

The camera is really good; Xiaomi didn't overpromise.
Got it on release and reeeeaally love it. Finally put the nail in the coffin for my iPhone.
But i also have the condensation issue and send it to support because it didnt help with the sim card try out.

Battery improved a lot with my 14 Ultra. Currently the estimate of accubattery is 12h screen on time.

@@JMTMarc nice better than 4hrs SOT, has yours improved any more? Surprised reading the other comment about 12 SOT, is that perhaps also dependant on screen brightness? (meaning if one used much lower brightness will gett much higher SOT estimates, not necessarly having used battery for longer to optimize performance?) Love your reviews, sehr gut!
Thanks! It definitely improved, but now it seems to be plateauing at between 5-7 hours of screen-on time (SOT). SOT isn't the most accurate measure because it varies significantly based on your activities during screen time, screen brightness, whether your phone is connected to WiFi or 5G, among other factors. I'm not sure how anyone achieves 12 hours...
@@JMTMarc It really depends a lot on the actual usage profile. In the beginning, I was mainly at home with WiFi, achieving the 12 hours. Now I am taking the phone with me everywhere with a lot of 5G. AccuBattery Pro reports 7,5 hours now.

Battery life in mine is still bad after 4 days of use, how to improve this?
Mine did improve and is still improving. Give it some more charging cycles and check if there is something draining the battery.
Im torn because photos from my pixel 8 pro look more realistic but the potential with this hardware is so much more if they can optimise the software
Really looking forward to the first big updates. Hopefully they will improve their update schedule. Remember that most of the other flagships already had their updates. But the Pixel 8 Pro will stay relevant, for sure!
Do you have both phones? I have pixel 8 Pro and I consider buying 14 ultra... Which one has better camera? I know about other specs I'm just interested in real life camera testing experience
@@theodoreippon I opted to sell the pixel and keep the 14 ultra. Pixel was better in some areas, photos were consistent but when you actually look at the colour science everything wasn't as true to life as Google claim, plus the 14 ultra charges to 100% in 30 mins, lasts longer and the camera grip is just flat out cool
I was sold when I could actually take a half decent pic of the moon on the xiaomi...something I'll do once and probably never again 🤣
@@jamestombling4665 wow thanks for the reply! I wish I could sell my pixel 8 Pro but I'm trying and no one buys it in a couple of sites I listed it... I don't want to try eBay cause last Time i sold a completely fine console there, the buyer broke it and eBay took his favor although I had photos and videos with proof it was working great... So do you know where could I sell it? It's in perfect condition with case, Glass etc.
Anyway the moment I sell it I will turn to ultra 14 too ...

Honestly, both are great. Xiaomi has higher resolution, but the M6Ps resolution is more than enough. Both are bright enough for outdoor use, have high refresh rates, I could not pick a clear winner.

The ongoing discussion around the Dxomark ratings has led many to question their neutrality, with allegations of paid tests surfacing. Personally, I find it perplexing that the Magic 6 Pro consistently claims the top spot across all categories. Contrary to these findings, other tests present diverse perspectives. While I acknowledge the camera quality as very good, it falls short of what I'd consider the best. Alternatives like the Vivo X100 Pro or the newly released Xiaomi 14 Ultra come to mind. It's intriguing to see how Dxomark evaluates the Xiaomi in light of these comparisons.

What specific artifacts are you referring to?
the camera fogging will ruin it totally for this one, even harder than what happened to Note 7 batterygate, sad really with it being global this time
And Xiaomi states that this is normal behavior 🤔
This is the first I’ve heard of camera fog or condensation on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
You should try googling it; you'll find multiple reports about the issue.

I have an 14 ultra as well, however the charging Speed is slow.... Not 100% in 33 minutes anyone also having these issues?
With the official charger? Mines charing very fast and when I use the official charger it will say so in the charging animation (90W Fast Charging).
Yeah, i use the original 90w charger that came with the complete camera kit package from official Xiaomi online store.
How slow is the charging? Do you get the 90W charging indication when plugging the phone in?

No, I ordered via the german Xiaomi site. This is the global version.
@@JMTMarc Is the 14U able to get a nice photo of A4 text page with the main camera? I had vivo x100 pro and no bueno. Every lens produced worse photo than five-year-old huawei, crazy. Plus it had strange halo around objects shot up close, not nice. I guess with variable aperture it could be ok judging by pictures on gsmarena. I was disappointed and had to return it after so much hype around it. It still over-sharpened images IMO. I hate it when phones do oil paintings from trees and grass. It is 2024 and we should be able to control it in pro mode.
The phone does some optimization to scanned text documents but that can be turned off. I didn't have problems with over sharpening though and I am very sensitive to overprocessed smartphone look. IMHO the Xiaomi 14 Ultra produces quite natural results.
Don’t you have the power issue of the grip ？ It could be drained out very fast, once you put it on the phone, and then become useless.
That's not how it works it charges the phone if it needs it but as it's connected via the usb c port it keeps working regardless if it has battery or not
Exactly! And additionally it has pass-through charging, meaning when you plug in the phone with the grip connected, the phone will be charged first and the grip second.
The grip is different from the grip of the 13 Ultra, which did not have a battery.
The condensation problem on the main camera can be solved by removing the Sim card and placing it in a ziplock with a desiccant.
For me, it's pretty much gone. It was also never particularly pronounced, and especially, it was not seen in the photos and videos. I also suspect that in my case it was something other than condensation, maybe actually something that had evaporated from the inside. In any case, it does not occur anymore.

4 hours battery life From a brand new phone??? My 3.5 year old #iphone12pm with 75% battery health still gives me 7.5 hrs!!!
4 hours of screen on time, not battery life. But I also notice it improving. I'm now sitting at 5. Also, every phone needs some charging cycles and time to settle in before the battery reaches full performance, so I'm optimistic.

I have already done that but received no response, yet. From other users, I know that Xiaomi does not acknowledge the problem and dismisses it as "normal behavior." Other manufacturers do that as well. However, Xiaomi fails to realize that yes, lenses can fog up with large temperature differences, but with the 14 Ultra, this also happens even when the temperature differences are not significant. So, it's not normal behavior.

Vivo X100 Pro is an excellent alternative!
After paying so much money for a device, you shouldn't have to go through a work around like that to stop the lens fogging up. I am going to buy the Honor Magic 6 Pro instead.

Had the problem for 30 Seconds after receiving it last tuesday. Occured after making some photos in a large Park, outside temperature w as about 14 degrees.
30 Seconds after it happened (Main lens only) it was gone as quick as it occured.
So I dont think this is a big problem for everbody. Only a very few rare cases are known, where you really need to fix it yourself or more than the main lens was affected at all.
4 to 5 hours of screen on time is terrible! I was literally just about to buy this device before I saw this! 😮

hmm i have the phone for 2 weeks now, i had no fog problems. its cold (6-15 degrees) and rainy here. i got the first charge of the phone delivered, maybe the second charge has a fog problem, i dont know. have fun with your magic pro

@@JMTMarc That just feels too insecure, I'd constantly be worried about it falling out. I was seriously considering getting a Pixel Fold for that exact reason (being able to comfortably fit it in my pocket). Unfortunately when I tried it out in a shop I really didn't like how reflective the inner screen and how significant the crease is. I was really hoping that Google would release a Fold 2 with the same aspect ratio, just better screen etc., but apparently that's not the case so I'm stuck with either a small regular phone or a flip style foldable as my next phone...
That wasn't meant seriously. That's generally the problem. There are practically no compact smartphones with flagship specs anymore. Asus has also made the Zenfone bigger now. Well, what should I say about the Pixel Fold? I've sold it now. I'm somewhat disappointed by Google for not sufficiently supporting the Fold with updates and new features (Circle to search, Gemini nano, etc.). And I'm curious to see what the Fold 2 looks like, but if you believe the rumors, they are changing the design, which I think is a mistake, because the unique form factor was precisely what made it special. We'll just have to wait and see...
@@JMTMarc The Pixel 9 looks quite promising in that regard, apparently there will be a small version with flagship specs (3 cameras for example). Still somewhat hoping that the Pixel Fold 2 rumors are wrong but I guess it's unlikely. I read that there will be an Honor flip phone this year, maybe that one could be an option.
I'm also curious about what the next rumors will be like. It remains exciting!

How long battery lasts?
Currently, I'm not satisfied yet. I have to charge it twice. But I'm also trying out a lot at the moment, using the camera a lot, and usually, smartphones need some time before the battery settles in. I'll keep you updated.

It's gradually getting better. Screen on time is improving. Today, I also received a tip that it can help to deactivate the synchronization of the Gallery app with Google Photos, because the gallery draws quite a bit of battery.
