    wow, you are making hats, amazing. ive been crocheting with wool yarn i bought online years ago. and finally using it. i love the feel of wool and the thought of making something with nature. makes me feel connected to the earth and God. im trying to make a poncho and im having a hard time figuring out the pattern for fitting it together. its a simple design ive been looking at ones made online. but i still have a hard time imagining how to fit it together. ive only made scarves and blankets before. so this poncho is new to me. and id love to learn to make a hat someday.

    Another product you could make is wool dreads that can be tied onto the hair. You could dye the wool with things like onion skins and other natural resources. Carve some beads to add onto them too?
    They have instructions on UA-cam and many people sell them on Etsy. Maybe you could trade with a local co-op or sell them from your cart 😊 I would say a pencil thickness dread would sell for about $10 each. What do you think?

    hi Aaron, quick question: I know you use your hand spun yarn for sewing, but... could it also be used for crochet or knitting?
    I do a lot of crochet myself, and here in the Netherlands we have a lot of sheep farmers that have a hard time selling their wool.
    So I wanted to look into buying some of it, I know I am only one person and can only do so much, but every little bit helps...
    But I don't have the money to also buy a big spinning wheel and everything else I might need to use that, so I thought your way of spinning the yarn might be a bit more "budget friendly" to start with?
    If it is suitable to make crocet yarn with, could you maybe do a little tutorial on how to do it? (what direction to twist the wool, and those sorts of tips and tricks and such?)

    • @pristineperistome5696
      @pristineperistome5696 8 місяців тому +4

      Sounds cool. I bet you can do it. The sooner you get that wool in your hands the sooner you get to learn how to work it :)

    • @123Homefree
      @123Homefree  8 місяців тому +2

      My yarn spinning method isnt as quick as the other methods but it has not setup time and needs no space you can do itnin the car, on a plane or in a waiting room chair cant do that with drop spindle! 😂
      Felting was the first invented textile, all subsequent twisted fiber textiles arent as insulative or as quick to make clothing, the later textiles are increasingly about more fashion and less function

    • @liannehoenderboom1018
      @liannehoenderboom1018 8 місяців тому +1

      @@123Homefree yeah, I wasn't planning on breaking any speed records anyway ;P
      mostly just looking for a way I can combine keeping myself busy and supporting some local farmers by helping them ofload some of the fleece they are having a hard time selling anywhere else, and hey, if I can make cool pieces of clothing out of it, that's just a bonus... I don't really have room for a felting set up, or, as previously mentioned, budget for a full spinning wheel set up, or the know how to work with either, but I do already have lots of crochet tools and a good bit of know how on how to work with them, which is why I was looking for ways to turn the raw fleece in to yarn for crochet projects, preferably ways that are a bit more budget and limmited space friendly, and from what I can tell from what you show of it in your vids, the method you use seems to fit that bill, but there are different types of yarn that can be used for different things, so that is why I was wondering if the yarn your method produces would be suitable to be used for other things besides the sewing work you use it for, in particular for crochet, as currently that is my prefered method of "fiber art"...

      @@liannehoenderboom1018this hand spinning is the same as roving yarn. Hopefully you know, have worked with it. Homespun is also another that's close to roving. I'm making those chickens that hold eggs inside with the Homespun. A lot of people don't like crocheting with it.

      He almost certainly does not, since he doesn't sell products as a business (no set prices, no haggling etc... it's effectively donation based). It's also unlikely that he receives enough annual income to where he would owe any taxes if he were to set prices - even if any of these trades were tracable, which cash transactions are not.

Cant make more than like 8000$ a year in Oregon and i think federal threshholdnis have to pay taxes starting at $10,000? But im noticing they are lowering the bar on this all so as to squeeze us out of this comfort zone eventually but let this be a buffer of time, learning curve before shtf for weening ourselves from dependence on the centrally controlled artificial economy and lean towards dependence on Nature and cottage industries with modern knowledge again.
