donkeys are very intelligent they know when to adjust their pulling speeds they even know their work shift we had one when I was growing up it was super smart. even when he would be a temperamental jerk he was always still good around little kids. its all about building the trust they will hold grudges to people that mistreat them and will happily work for people it liked. does she like being brushed? ours loved a good brushing it was a quick way to get on his good side. also the larger squeaky dog toys. our even had a part time job sometimes we would board horses and we would hook them to the donkey and the donkey would walk them around the pasture. it only took my dad a few go abouts till he learned what he was supposed to be doing. he would do 2 laps around the pasture come back to my dad to get another horse do another 2 more laps and if there was the rare time of having 3 horses he would take them around. any more than that he would refuse to work and the second he would get unhooked he would run to the other side of the farm to go spend the rest of the day with the peafowl and chickens of all things
Hi Aaron. Came across your story on UA-cam. I'm also an Almeda Fire survivor studying and practicing sustainability knowledge and skills. Was gentrified by fire. Working more for less money and less freedom now.
I hope you keep your donkey she seems happy with you. I used to work with one and he could be an ass but as we got to know each other he was so much better
I saw some milkweed on the path. You can harvest that and produce bast fiber for spinning and weaving or knitting some clothing besides the wool from your sheepies. Im sure you run across stinging nettle as well and at the end of the season you can also process that into fiber for spinning and weaving or knitting for clothing. Bast fiber is cooler in the summer and wool warmer in the winter. Bast and wool are better than cotton.

There’s no lactose in aged cheese, its sugars have all been digested by the microbes. Most people who’s doctor/pharma drug dealer tells them theyre lactose intolerant are misdiagnosing their patients’ bodys as rejecting the lactose but its usually the fault of the homogenized, pasteurized toxic milk bought from stores which our body’s obviously have trouble digesting. Another factor they dont factor is that a cows milk is made to flow through the pipes of an animal 5 times our own size so the constituents in cows milk does tend to clog people up causing digestive difficulties, but the dumb “official protocol” doctors just repeat their mantra/diagnosis “its lactose intolerance”
Make sure you test any cow you want to get raw milk from for diseases, they can give you that lung disease that can also sometimes give you meningitis, I can’t remember what it’s called but it used to be called consumption. Being well educated about what you can contract from raw foods and knowing how to get it tested for and how to reduce risk is important. Cheese is lactose free, the process that makes it cheese takes away the lactose. They have raw milk cheeses in Europe, so maybe look into what they do for safety regulations and tests cleanliness standards and what they vaccinate for to make their raw dairy products safe for consumption?

Somebody posted this on a facebook post and I wanted to share it with you for maybe a short show idea?!? Being a good shepherd!! But here is the post. “I always wondered what this part of Psalm 23 meant. I thought “He anoints my head with oil” was figurative language for God keeping the Psalmist healthy. I never knew this parallel. Sheep can get their head caught in briers and die trying to get untangled. There are horrid little flies that like to torment sheep by laying eggs in their nostrils which turn into worms and drive the sheep to beat their head against a rock, sometimes to death. Their ears and eyes are also susceptible to tormenting insects. So, the shepherd anoints their whole head with oil. Then there is peace. That oil forms a barrier of protection against the evil that tries to destroy the sheep. Do you have times of mental torment? Do worrisome thoughts invade your mind over and over? Do you beat your head against a wall trying to stop them? Have you ever asked God to anoint your head with oil? He has an endless supply! His oil protects and makes it possible for you to fix your heart, mind, and eyes on Him today and always! There is peace in the valley! May our good Father anoint your head with oil today so that your cup overflows with blessings! God is good and He is faithful!!” May God continue to bless you..”

Its just one of the cheapest off amazon $20, they have ones like this with a fan or ones that sit ontop of your glass or container and you have to use a torch lighter to shoot the flame down into the bowl so it drives the smoke down into your vessel of food but im trying to come up with another method that doesnt need a fan or a torch light just using my blowing..
My mind wants to work on it. Long metal tube with heat-resistant mouthpiece connected to mini oven pot with a lid holding damp wood chips that when heated from the bottom and ready the smoke is simply puffed through another tube leading to a chilly chamber where the goods are at. You could inspire a whole 'nother culture living by the sea and smoking fish. Rickshaws for everyone!
Had the same little jar of Walcoren for probably 6 years now never refrigerated and hasnt lost much if any potency that i can tell, its the only non-gmo brand of rennet i know of. 1 jar seems like itll last 10 years of making cheese daily its so potent you only use what looks like a couple grains of fine salt
Why, for the cool different factor? Jk 😂 it ran across my mind at first too when researching what animals would be the best for US. Off the top of my head memory of reasons i foresaw camels wouldnt be good here. 1.They arent native to here so more prone to intolerance to our new diseases 2. Cause they arent native they are unreasonably expensive(putting all your eggs in one basket that cant be easily replaced if they die) 3. Because they arent native if you dont also haul around a male then you wont be as easily able to breed them for milk. Traveling with a male and female of any animal species makes for wayy more drama and so if your gonna have both its safest to have animals that are smaller or at least more controllable when they are in heat or he is feeling frisky. 4. Because not being native they also cant be helped by vets if it gets sick. 5. They have pads instead of hooves that wear away much faster than hooves requiring custom shoes to walk on roads like this which i dont even know if shoes would fit them cause their feet splay out when stepped on just like how cloven hoof animals 2 separate hoofhalves splay out when they put weight down thats why i cant put shoes on my ram. This list is seriously gonna have me here longer than i have patience believe me there were waaay too many points of conflict with the idea of trying to travel with camels in America

I am a new subscriber too, and binging on Aaron's videos since the introduction via Kirsten Dirksen's piece. She did two pieces on Aaron in fact, which is unusual for her. I have Aaron with me all the time now. I understand domesticated animals are meant to be used, but I still cringe at the butchery and I wonder how I will ever keep dairy sheep with my sensitivities. I've also been watching anything I can find on UA-cam with Daniel Schmacktenburger talks, as he speaks about how hunter/gather societies were animalistic, complete with reverences for all animals, and then when societies became agrarian, and animals must be domesticated and used, the animalistic revernces must end because how can you practice reverence for animals and beat them all day under yoke to plow fields, or whatever task is at hand? Food for thought. Daniel Schacktenburger is full of much food for thought. I finally found what looks like a non-Chinese leather supply online. I am not against China or Chinese people, but I try to vote with my wallet and I seek to purchase anything I need used, or at least USA made whenever possible. My wallet is my biggest impact. So I finally found thick, 1mm thread and appropriately sized needles to make some small household repairs and I'm thinking to share my finds with Aaron. I love the workmanship on his felted wool clothing. I ordered the thick thread in a cream color and also a brown. I think the extra thick thread and needles would be perfect for felted wool projects. I think about the little wagon getting heavier and heavier with each little thing added for a sustenace lifestyle. Tools and all are necessary. I like the yurt idea comment below although it could make him beholden to a location. Yurts are remarkably similar to American Indian teepees, yes? American Indians had a very unique time and place in history. They utilized North America is all her glory. Summering in the north and wintering in the south. Hunting/gathering along the way. Divinity and magnificence
If every homeless person was like you i wouldn't dislike them so much. You should come to a couple cities and educate some of theese lazy tweakers we have running all over the place.
