The next time you play 1 on 1 or a pick up game of team ball, play the first game where handchecking is allowed. Now in the second game have everyone stop handchecking. You'll see the drastic difference. If it's a team game, in the first game allow camping out in the paint defensively, in the second game don't allow camping in the paint. Now you'll have some better first hand perspective.

im actually okay with 3 seconds for centers, but i wish they brought handchecking back, it's pretty much a perimeter-dominant game now, making guards and jordan-like players look unstoppable, it's boring to watch
I can so relate to this, I remember the 80s/90s NBA really well. And this is a very good explaintion to how these new rules affect the game.
I dont like to compare older players to how the game is now, but its very easy to make up your own mind on how the game/players would have been able to do in todays game.

i tried the hand checking thing with my friend and you can play through it but its obviously hard as fuck and makes it just an absolute bitch to move around plus its easy to be dirty with it
Perimeter players like MJ, Dr. J, Clyde, Nique, Iceman, English, Baylor, Dantly would average at least 45 points per game with no problem. It is easier to score now than in the 60's,70's, 80's or 90's. I'm 20 years old and don't disrespect the players from the past

A prime Jordan would've scored 80s & 90s several games in this era just based on the fact that defenders wouldn't be able to play defense on him. Its crazy how little people understand about the game. You are 1 of the few who actually have good understanding of the overall game. People who say MJ was overrated usually have the basketball IQ of a grape fruit. Great vid by the way.
Pippen's comments were based on how well LBJ was performing in the 2011 playoffs prior to the finals. Particularly if you look at the ECF vs the bulls, he lead the team in scoring, distributing the ball, playing great defense on Rose and hitting big shots. However, one series later LBJs play (or lack thereof) made a fool out of Pippen and his comments.

wow Michael in his early thirties would have to face hand checking and literally was being pushed so he couldn't get to the rim but he could still dunk over players!, then you compare the rules from back in MJ's era to now NBA has surely gone soft :/

@jspears19 Hard to disagree w/ur reply completely. My only things is Ive watched those Pistons teams who had a seperate set of rules 4MJ & the back2back 50pt gms in the finals (still the only player to ever do that). Not to mention his 41pts he avgd in the finals. The only reson he only scored 63 is because Woolridge shot 27x & only made 9. MJ couldve easily scored 70 n regulation that gm. The 64pt gm against Orlando wouldve easily been 85+ if they werent pushing & holding so much.
@c2g1980 Its hard to say because he would've grew up differently and adjusted to different rules but if he was starting out (before handchecking) and in the third year or 4th year they added the rules he would've been crazy but not only him a lot players back then would've been crazy

Actually Pip said that Lebron could be greater than MJ with the amount of talent he has and his athleticism. But LBJ doesnt have a strong enough will for him to win. What makes MJ so great is that he dominated in a BIG man's game where it is usually a C or PF that dominate the game due to rebounding, blocks, close proximity to the basket (low post). MJ was about 50% in fg in the triangle offense which was designed for a C. Olajuwon would have won more rings if not for MJ playing basketball.

Any1 watching that Bulls series might have thought that @ the time. I mean Bron is bigger, faster, stronger & equally as athletic, but MJs IQ, clutch play & decision making, ft & jump shooting consistency (especially in crunch time) & defensive IQ & pressence r light yrs beyond Lebron's.

Dude, who said that LBJ is more athletic than MJ ?? Don't ever say that ! Because Big doesn't mean athletic and the fact that LBJ is bigger than MJ doesn't mean that he's a better athlete ! Some can argue but maybe MJ was the most athletic player we've ever seen in the history on NBA. Anyway, he was far more athletic than LBJ, Kobe, Melo, Wade, or others that you can think of.
@theAIRJORDANblitz What Up bruce, not to mention the floppers and crying for foul calls was annoying. kobe never had to deal with The Knicks and The Pistons DIRTY play that they often got away with. They still talk about the so-called push off Byron Russell on his Famous last shot, that was Jordan's way off shaking the handcheckers off. I'm probably sure Jordan got tired of all that shit. @wagutoxD Man if you've been watching and playing ball since early 90's you should know all this. I've played pickup games in Lebanon, China, New York and and Florida.
Lebanon and China call pussy fouls. In USA, they still hand check on every play when I play at gyms so it's hard to adjust when I play outside of America. Sometimes I feel like slapping them especially when they point at their pinky trying to tell me that I fouled them there.
@c2g1980 Yeah Jordan I think Jordan's steal/ppg/apg would have definitely went up but at the same time imagine him going to college and the new NBA rules already have occurred you think he would've been coached differently in college for the NBA to play accordingly, would his determination actually been the same as his regular NBA career. I think in that era with those rules everybody would've been scoring crazy.

this is just my theory but i think he just said it to add pressure or lebron ........notice the timing of his comments just before the nba finals lol .........lebron just came off hitting clutch shots against boston and chi-town and then could'nt do nothing against dallas after the comments maybe that the pippens comments effected him in a psychological way
