It's a shame that the powers are delayed until mythic level 9. The lich also took a while to get his form, but I don't think it was that long. Here I think Owlcat should advance the powers at lower levels, as well as distribute the mythic levels better. My ideal would be that in the Lost Chapel you already get level 4 instead of 3, and in the middle of Alushinirra you get level 7, Nocticula 8, Colyphir 9, and then in Drezen you get level 10 so you can enjoy it better. By the way, I really enjoy your streams, vídeos, your attitude and your voice ! You rock ! Best wishes and happy new year all of you ! ♡✰ Smile. The world's not ending just yet.

Nice, I was hoping you'd release this retrospective! I just got into the game this week, and in reading about it and poking around build ideas in the IE expansion, I just realized yesterday that I had a complete blindspot when it came to what the Golden Dragon option even entailed. Thanks for continuing to rep content for WotR, warming up people like me (cRPG newsbies from BG3/Rogue Trader) to a game that otherwise looked too jank* and imposing, but that turns out to be addictively-deep. (*Gold dragon riding a hippogriph remains too jank for me though 😂)
I'm on my 4th playthrough! I imagine I will probably have at least two more playthroughs! I wish Owlcat was making another Pathfinder adventure! Wrath of the Righteous is by far my favorite RPG of all time! Even beating out Baldur's Gate 3 in my personal opinion! Cheers!
@@SlanderedGaming Did you say they were having some kind of show on December 31st? Maybe are wishes will come true and they will say something about their plans if any for Pathfinder moving foward! I know the Devs said they were burned out on it and needed a break!
I saw the mention for apsu that suggested I was getting help that I can't recall getting. Maybe I missed a buff. Do you remember the detail of how exactly you got helped with Dahak?
@@mclbcw yeah, i do not play in english so maybe not exact word - but Dahak basically say staunton should have been executed for failure long before and is time to make him die painfully, and then gives entire party a huge buff (similar to calistra buff) and debuff to minago/staunton - is very big buff at this point of game, is another time like this that he is angry someone who failed is still alive - but apart from this, is a bunch of dialogue, including his follower in dragon quest (if you arent a gold dragon) mocking and laughing at you, if you are a dragon is pretty happy about it - is more instant like this but is mainly my sister to play the Dahak thing
I feel they could have added more to GD, make things like the path options appear in earlier segments, maybe more interactivity with the Apsu or Dahak religions, or even have gold dragon be pickable in act 3 when you retake drezen and have the quests to do random stuff during act 3, with completing it unlocking gold dragon proper in act 5, and maybe act 4 could have more reactivity like being able to redeem demons down there or destroy the flesh market like you can do with Azata. Maybe even also include a staunton redemption as well with Nurah and Hulrun but make it a secret path or something like Nurah. I mean the mechanic changes definitely were needed, i still wish they added more narratively. Going to that option of unlocking it earlier, you can be like a neophyte gold dragon, or nascaent, you have the powers but you arent quite there, so act 3 would be doing those quests you do on act 5, only different areas, and maybe along rhe way you get encounters that can shift you either to a true gold dragon or a corrupted one like with Azata or Aeon paths. The choices you make could also tie to descisions, like pardoning prisoners or cultists, more reactivity in the council desicions or even events and options specific to gold dragon and their corrupted variants. Heck more interactivity with the baby dragon god you get in act 5, think like Aivu, a pet you get as a gold dragon that alao changes as you play, going either good or evil depending on what you do with the ending for them changing as well.
@SlanderedGaming I felt the same thing, like I get they are working on their next game and rogue trader, so maybe they couldn't put resources into the update. But still I was expecting something a bit meatier. Don't get me wrong the game is a blast, but I feel they could have made it a free expansion update that added more for gold dragon. Like getting it earlier, having decisions early on that would tie into unlocking it, and having your rank 3 you can become a neophyte or a fledgling gold dragon, working your way to act 5 to become a true gold dragon. Having options to redeem characters, not just Hulrun and Nurah, like Staunton for example, have him redeem himself early on like depending on your choices he wouldn't side with Minagho and instead help us in Drezen with him helping reconquer the fortress and slaying Minagho, finally restoring his honor, or him sacrificing himself to help slay Minagho. Maybe getting his brother Joran to talk with Staunton and help with the redeeming part as well, like a quest to help Joran out early on leading to Joran try to reason with Staunton later. I feel there could have been a lot of potential with the update, not just in terms of changing the mechanics of the path, though I will admit it definitely could use it. I know they said this was the last story update for the game, but part of me hopes they reconsider and decide to add more to the game besides bug fixes. Like adding little bits of story content sprinkled in, not big ones but small little things.
Always wanted to do a Gold dragon playthrough and i prefer playing as spellcasters so this update sounds perfect in my ears :) now i just need to find the time to actually play it X'D
I still think it was nice of Owlcat to add even a little bit to the Gold Dragon path. Like I think it's less about the additions being worth a full new run on their own and more about WotR having an avid fanbase that will probably keep playing it anyway. This is a nice treat for the most engaged players. Plus it sounds like Owlcat isn't coming back to Pathfinder for a little bit so it's best to leave their take on the ruleset in a good place.
I also played after three years for the Dragon path, not much additional content except new DLCs, still it was great to play again (used the mod that skips puzzles and homm3), respecced every companion into something new and gave some of them a mythic path to make it more fun, didn't use any animal companions that block the party's movement and visibility
The problem with that is she doesn't get her companion until level 5 so you basically have at least one level where the pet is going to be severely underleveled.
This was helpful. I've been theory crafting a lich ascension run for like 3 weeks lol. Already did demon. But life is about to get busier, so I've been wondering if I want to do all the new content or just rush through to get to another playthrough. Plus there's other games I want to try. Looks like I'll be taking my time, and playing this Lich run like it's my last for a while. Thanks for all the content you've made on this game.
Appreciate your review. Shame that GD seems to favor casters, especially since casters are already favored with the paths beforehand. I still look forward to checking it out. Get well soon and Happy New Year to you and your family!
Appreciate the take; personally I have a number of Mythics to complete so yeah...have not even done Angel, will take a while to say the least but I plan on doing them all one day...
I'm not sure if you made a similar video when they added stuff to the devil mythic path does someone have a link to that video if so if there isn't one do you think the new devil mechanics are worth a new playthrough ?

I did end up playing dragon shifter and i did miss some of the spell casting stuff even though i was a melee monster.
Ulbrig is a great character and such an easy build. Just go straight class and it’s hard to screw him up from being the second best melee character (assuming your KC is also a melee character). I haven’t replayed WOTR, but I do have a save right before you can do the late game paths (gold dragon, legend, etc). Will definitely get back to those experiences. Current spending some time palate cleansing with Cyberpunk 2077 at the moment.
Hey Slandered, just wondering... have you had any troubles with the game crashing out? More than usual, lol. Since the latest patch - there isn't a new one yet; and I'm not sure there will be at this point - Every time I tried to restart the game, If I go to get Radiance; the game crashes. When I try to even get out of the maze (so not even properly into the prologue...) the game just crashes. I can literally see the load screen get to 100% and then it crashes. Every. Damned. Time. This is on the Xbox Series X - so it's not outdated hardware. It does however make the game quite literally unplayable. And I just bought the last DLC in order to get access to the new classes (was pumped that they finally have a Monk variant who can be something other than an Angel or an Aeon because of Aligment restrictions) * I am waiting for a new patch to hopefully fix the issue... as I STILL want to be able to legitimately complete just ONE playthrough, the way I want to do it. : ( [If I can get the game to actually work again - I do intend to use your Apotheosis/Crusade Management guides as reference]
Regarding the differences between default gold dragon and corrupted gold dragon: The story differences are honestly quite underwhelming. There is some (in my view not very plausible) reactivity, but hal basically doesnt care. He gets annoyed at some of the evil gold dragon crusade management choices, but this has no narrative impact beyond those conversations. There is some brief reference to you being corrupted in ending slides and you have the rather naff evil dragon option of just walking away from the world wound rather than staying to guard it. As for Dahak as a deity, its really quite limited reactivity, but this is consistent with most deities. Much more significant are the mechanical differences. For Slandered's build, breath weapon doesn't really matter, but if you are a build which uses it, the annihilating breath specific to vow of dahak fully doubles dragon breath damage against most targets, including doubling the bonus from empowered breath. The extra damage is also fortitude save, so cannot be evaded. At rank 9, you will be hitting for around 350 on average with 50ish DC in a big party friendly AoE, so its pretty good if you can do something alongside it. Personally, I was playing a sorcerer with completely normal spell and favoured metamagic quicken amongst other metamagic feats and I could quicken spells pretty liberally, so could do this alongside breath weapon attacks. And at rank 10, with no cooldown and the breath weapon being empowered and maximised along with the base dice increasing, the breath weapon becomes very powerful, so annihilating breath is a huge deal in inevitable excess if you care to play it. A major drawback is the spellbook changes. At rank 10, your dragon storm applies half the debuff to the enemies that the uncorrupted gold dragon applies as a buff to your party members, which is significantly worse IMO. But somewhat more importantly are the changes to non mythic spells. The normal gold dragon spellbook has a lot of useful buffs, such as extra casts of haste, greater heroism and foresight, but most importantly, had personal buffs including righteous might, divine favour and divine power. If you do not have access to these spells from your class, this is a very significant loss. Divine power is +5 to hit and damage over prayer, so a very significant loss for any martial build, and whilst righteous might is inferior to legendary proportions, it has no reagent cost, so you can use it more liberally, its better than enlarge person and works with shapeshifted forms. These are swapped out for a large number of offensive spells, but the great majority of these rely on DCs for either half damage or little to no effect and mythic spellbooks replace your caster stat modifier with your mythic rank, which honestly sucks. A good caster build should have a lot more than a +9 modifier to their casting stat, certainly as a main character. If you have the build and gear to use offensive spells effectively, you will have a non mythic spell book which is going to cast offensive spells much more effectively. Also, aside from the bad DCs, the spell selection itself is just not very good. If you were to choose 4 spells at each spell level for either a blaster caster or crowd controller, there would be almost no overlap between your choices and the corrupted gold dragon spell list.
I actually did evil gold dragon this last playthrough, BUT it wasn't supposed to be that. It was trickster, but I got bored of that path and as I approached Act 5 they actually released that and I had the option lmfao. It was just more fun than trickster, but that's mostly because I feel like trickster is a path I simply cannot get into aesthetically. It gets a little too silly and jokey for my taste, and I thought I was holding strong before that. Also I'm ngl if you tell me I get to basically be Nefarian, I'm down lol. It was also pretty funny to tell the crusaders "yeaaaaah DRAGON HOARD!! MORE TREASURE FOR THE COMMANDER!!! YEEEEAH" Edit: I would say it didn't really seem that different. Since Gold Dragons are obscenely forgiving you don't even really piss off Hal or anyone. You just kinda see people get confused at how selfish you act lol. It's a pretty tame "evil". Compared to say, Lich or Devil lol. I didn't select Dahak as a deity, but in Act 5 there was more interaction with Lathimas and Hal than reactivity with him. But, my EGD was more of a "I'm so bored of being trickster" thing rather than a dedicated playthrough so others 100% have more to say about it I'm sure.

Is an ANgel to Gold Dragon an interesting path to try?
I like it but you go from the single most integrated and fleshed out path in the game to one of the least, so it can be a bit jarring.
