This movie surprised me because i thought it was light hearted but it was so deep and hurts. My ex cheated on me on younger woman and i was so oblivious didn’t even believe it at first. He seems happy with me and did not expect him to cheat. I did ask him why and he said it was love. That broke my heart. Well thank God i was able to move on. Then i met my husband and happily married and have a son now.

  • @IME-qn2eu

In this scene, Dan said "deception is brutal," which was key because the theme of deception is rampant through this entire movie: Jane lied from the very start when she introduced herself as Alice Ayers to Dan; Dan described his work as an obit writer as creating euphemisms for ugly truths that would be easier to accept about the deceased's REAL lives; Dan pretended to be a woman meeting up with Larry in the sex chat room; Alice pointed out the deception of Anna's photographs of sad-looking people that creates the illusion of beautiful art; Dan lied to himself and Alice about his feelings for Anna that had never ceased.
And more irony in the theme of deception is that Jane lied about her true identity to the man she actually loved, Dan, BUT revealed her true identity to the man she did not respect, Larry. And even more irony is that because of how generic her name sounds-Jane Jones-Larry thought she was being deceitful about her name. And I guess the ultimate irony is, "If Jane gave Dan a false name from the start, is she justified in her disappointment if Dan cheated on "Alice" and NOT on Jane? Things that make you go 🤔.
