This movie surprised me because i thought it was light hearted but it was so deep and hurts. My ex cheated on me on younger woman and i was so oblivious didn’t even believe it at first. He seems happy with me and did not expect him to cheat. I did ask him why and he said it was love. That broke my heart. Well thank God i was able to move on. Then i met my husband and happily married and have a son now.
Bless you, you are very strong

Toxic relationships.
At least he admitted he’s selfish.
Eh. I never understand the ‘At least he admits he’s a piece of shit’ shiny gold star. I think actually not being a piece of shit may warrant proverbial applause
? So? He literally hits her directly afterward....
@@copyright-ur1sf I get what you mean but this person just meant that it's good that he's self aware. As in it's better to know you're a piece of sh*t than think you're not

Natalie Portman is just an S tier actress. She steals this scene. She steals any scene she is in.
S tier if you count from the wrong way
Natalie Portman is such a powerhouse. One of the best actresses of her generation.
lets agree to disagree
So many great lines in this movie 🎥 “I amuse you, but I bore you” so good
In this scene, Dan said "deception is brutal," which was key because the theme of deception is rampant through this entire movie: Jane lied from the very start when she introduced herself as Alice Ayers to Dan; Dan described his work as an obit writer as creating euphemisms for ugly truths that would be easier to accept about the deceased's REAL lives; Dan pretended to be a woman meeting up with Larry in the sex chat room; Alice pointed out the deception of Anna's photographs of sad-looking people that creates the illusion of beautiful art; Dan lied to himself and Alice about his feelings for Anna that had never ceased.
And more irony in the theme of deception is that Jane lied about her true identity to the man she actually loved, Dan, BUT revealed her true identity to the man she did not respect, Larry. And even more irony is that because of how generic her name sounds-Jane Jones-Larry thought she was being deceitful about her name. And I guess the ultimate irony is, "If Jane gave Dan a false name from the start, is she justified in her disappointment if Dan cheated on "Alice" and NOT on Jane? Things that make you go 🤔.
Very insightful comment; thank you for taking the time to share
There's always two sides to it - one person who wants to deceive and one who lets themselves or wants to be deceived.
God I’ve been Alice, worst experience of my life.

Not jus that, better chemistry
@@jennypham3998 well, she didn't need anything from him. She didn't Need him to be Daddy. I wouldn't call pandering to his narcissism "better chemistry", when she merely took away his adult responsibilities and babied him. Jude Law here has a Oedipal, Madonna-whore complex: he can't f*ck where he loves, and can't love where he f*cks. Natalie Portman is his OG Devouring Mother; whom he is In Love with but repulsed by. Julia Roberts played pretty woman to him as her *client". Do men go to sex workers because they have "better chemistry"?
@@jennypham3998no.... In the same way that Alice was obsessed with him, he was obsessed with Anna. Anna wanted to be with someone obsessed with her for like 5 minutes before the novelty wore off 😂
Thats so normal
Very underrated movie. Portman is a phenomenal actress and looks like an absolute angel.
I hated him so much, he was a fly that always liked getting into shit
I did played Jude Law's character in real Life, did The exact same things as he did AND end up with nothing after all
I don't like watching infidelity movies, but that one scene was so POWERFUL, that it showed me self RESPECT and dignity.
Natalie Portman is a versatile actress
I mean she is a Gemini
One of the best movies ever created.
Also the Trilogy Before Sunrise movies. Excellent movies.
Her. Eternal Sunshine. Punch Drunk Love as well. Before trilogy is my all time favorite.
I was in my early 2os & I now I know y I never got into "romantic movies." I didn't have the patience to even want to understand. I remember seeing this on satellite prob thinking I was gonna try the normal ppl thing... & idk if I'm making this up, my memory, but I thought sjp was supposed to be his wife. & Natalie Portman was the 1 he liked. But murdered? Every time I hear "creepy" classical movie I think about them doing it in the grass for some reason.. 🤔🤷🏻♀️
Feels like my toxic relationships when i was 15-25 years …. Eww Drama
Wow just like her husband in real life.
so surreal watching this, made way before she even met her husband, knowing that her real life husband did end up cheating on her.
Go figure. How do you cheat on Natalie Portman? I guess money's easier to squander if you have it.
This got her the Oscar Nomination 👍🏽
Your moment... thats when the enemy puts a hateful spell upon you and you have no idea what you're choosing and everything around you is deception. Oh, and the enemy runs bets on what you will do on the side.
I don’t need things⚜️
No one in their right mind would choose Julia Roberts over Natalie Portman 😂
PREACH ❤️
What r y’all on they’re both stunning women
FACTS
That was the biggest dissapointment with this movie 😂
Why?
you have to remember her lines , " i'm the one who leaves you , i'm the one who leaves" , i think thats why she leaves at the end , because she wants to be the one in the end who leaves him , and shes afraid he would fall in the same cycle and leave her alone again. and she could never tell him the full truth of her life.
Man, Anakin Skywalker would NEVER!
😂😂The way I cackled to this ^^
Say what you want about Anakin’s dark side, but he had Padme Amidala tattooed all over his heart 💯
This one reminds me of the Unbearable Lightness of Being 😮
Good actress 💪
I can’t tell if Natalie’s acting is bad or the writing is bad. But to me, this scene felt very fake.
It's actually kinda incomplete. if you watch the entire movie this scene and the scene where she does leave him completes an arch and is just so damn Memering.
Natalie Portman is so good in this
She's good in everything 😂
I think she chose Alice Ayers because she cared about him, but she still protected her true heart. With Clive Character in the movie, she gave her real name, but she didn't care about him, and he could not hurt her.
She is almost look like a child at here.
It's because of the hair and clothes
No make up
Well she was very young in 2003
and acts like one

I watched this film once while on a come-down from a weekend bender in London! It did not help!
Matilda growing up😮
Lucky Jude Law choses between Julia Roberts and Nathalie Portman.
Lucky portman and Roberts acting with perfect man
I watched this once. ONCE. The dialog.spunds like it was written by AI. It's TERRIBLE.
I was thinking that too. Realistically it’s probably just written by a British person and that’s why it sounds weird, Americans saying “did you phone her” and “do you fancy me” just sounds off
I think it is mainly because it was adapted from a play.
@@babayaga3098 If anything, I found this aspect most believable. The film takes place in London, and immigrants quickly adopt the native phrases and language they are surrounded by (I'm an American and have been in the UK for 18 years). I think the writing style is mainly down to him being a playwright.
@@Cyrill15 makes sense then!!

Nahhh... it is not human nature to cheat. Human offspring take a lomger time to survive on their own. So real male human instinct is to stay and protect and provide for the mother and offspring or else they die. So the cheating male and female are the one define human nature or phychology sick.
Its egoism. Thankfully many women dont need one man anymore and just go out and have fun.

Everyone cheats and they do it all the time. The trick is to cheat first and often.
Even if you don't have a girlfriend. Cheat on it anyway.
Thats not even remotely true. You like to think so so you dont feel bad about being a cheater. If you can't be faithful to the person you're supposed to love most, there are no redeeming qualities left. Just a selfish, manipulative liar.
