I'm very pleased with my LMI. Intake air temps are about the same or less even in the AZ heat. I definitely noticed a performance increase and SC wine is amazing. As for gas mileage, come on man it's a muscle car. I have a couple of classic muscle cars that get 8 to 10 miles a gallon with 300 to 400 less horsepower. If gas mileage is an issue for you get a Prius.:-)
Air flow is much more important than intake air temps. As soon as you get moving, you’ll have cool air from the hole in the headlight. That intake is much larger and will feed a lot more air than stock. As far as water getting in the intake, that’s what the pre-filter is for. It’s water repellant. Unless you have a hose pointed directly at the filter for a long period of time, you’ll be fine. And lastly as far as the gas mileage goes, I’d bet the majority of your loss in gas mileage is due to a drive style change wanting to hear more of the louder supercharger whine. You may not realize it, but it’s common nature for us car guys. I think you should keep it, but one thing is recommend doing is disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes to let things reset and so the ECU will learn the new intake and all the new air it is receiving.
Parker Smith Even if you do a reset on the computer the program will take it all over a period of time. That has always been my experience with the reset. The Hellcat has to be tune in order to have lasting effects.
Parker Smith Where are you getting your information? The stock intake is capable of flowing near 900cfm. That’s near double the capacity that a stick 6.2 could ever consume.
Sp 485 I have no specific experience with the Hellcat, but speaking with the creator/flow engineer of PMAS intakes, he has shown time and time again that air flow outweighs IAT’s. He has shown not only through dyno runs, but also graphs comparing flow to intake temps. Put more in, and you have the capability to get more out. Especially with a tune like stated above. It’s common sense.
Parker Smith Again, you will not gain any air flow with any aftermarket set up. Not 1 cfm. The oem equipment is capable of providing way more air than the stok heads could ever flow. There is zero benefit in regards to temps or flows. These things are the biggest and most successful scams in the aftermarket business. Apparently there isn’t anything common about sense.
To everyone saying that the warranty is voided because of the intake, it isn't voided unless a problem occurs and its led back to the intake being the issue. Thank god for the Magnusson-Moss act
Coffin Nails Dealerships normally listen once you point out that its illegal to just blame said part without testing to see if it was the part that fucked it up and not a manufacturing defect like the bearings on the 2015 hellcat motors for example.
Gas mileage drops afterward because we don't realize we're driving a little livelier after the install. I've gained 1-2 MPG in the long-term with my LMI Hammer. As for IATs, you're right, it does go up slightly but I'd say nothing that impacts performance. As for the water thing, the cover and pre-filter work great.
What benefits do you get from the sound? You lost your ram air system and expose it to engine heat. The reason you show a 20hp gain is because the design isn’t bad as far as intakes go and it does shine but here’s the kicker on a dyno your stationary with a fan so regardless stock vs legmaker the better carbon fiber will flow better stationary but take it out in the environment when it hot then you will see iat go up pulling timing because of no shield and this is simply at a stationary point now hauling ass 100+ cold air is being forced into the headlight directly into the box condensing air molecules helping the supercharger but without that inlet you are only getting hot air mixed and not condensed therefore not rendering a true hp result on a dyno because they cannot generate these conditions in a shop with a fan. This is why It sucks. B woody same way. Sounds great but sounds don’t win races science does and that’s why dodge uses this design however dodge engineers don’t have an unlimited pocket so they make things out of plastic and rubber which ends up weighing more but will last a while to. So hope this helped you. The newer hc hood inlet and the head light inlet are used to maximize air flow so if you think dodge isn’t on to something here revamping it once again to add a second ram air your nutz and for you to regress with such an expensive mod that isn’t better than a stock one or an upgraded OEM one not only with 1 inlet but 2 and you wanna just get rid of that because you think it’s better?
I remember this guy's vids back when he had that Hellcat and this channel was exciting to watch, the huge grin on his face when the cat ran low 10s that time at the track was totally priceless and great vewing content
Between the white paint and louder whine, you're going to be mistaken for an ambulance on acceleration. At least other drivers may move out of your way now.
Marciel Industries I agree, the reviews say that drop in filters perform the same if not better than a new intake. As far as sound, I don't think it would be $400 noticeable over the supercharger whine.
i just hate messing with my hellcat, i think dodge did fantastic job with it.good enough stock for me, would be good for my youtube channel to mod it but i'll live it alone.
Detroit Muscle 313 yeah brother don't mess with it. You are positively right about Dodge doing a great job on all of there muscle car line up. Plus why take the risk of losing your warranty 😨
You should add screens in the headlamp holes where the air goes in. I did a recent install video. Its called D.I.P.S. stands for Direct Inlet Port Screens i believe. Dont want to have debri getting inside and bouncing around hitting components. And it controls how the air goes in
Its a great looking intake, love the carbon fiber, but like everyone else mentioned, the filter is not isolated from the engine bay heat. Just like the R2C (?) on your old Scat Pack. Unlike the Scat Pack, you now have a MAF to deal with, which is calibrated to the stock air box’s air flow. If the LMI changes volume and velocity of the air flow around the MAF, could affect mileage and power.
Get a sheet metal guard to enclose the filter into the corner stops engine bay heat and will allow the vent in the bonnet and the headlight to feed cooler air
I spoke to my service adviser at the dealer and he said an intake wont void your warranty as long as it doesn't come with a different sensor, which could mess some things up. Also if some problem ever happens and it leads back to the intake which it never will. I'm definitely getting this intake.
So from experience of running similar intakes on ATVs during motocross, that pre filter really fights off the water you don't really have to worry about that.
When u pulled the intake out of the box I noticed the pipe was similar to my RAM HAMMER for my Dodge Ram. They sure do suck in the air. Mine is all metal. The LX cars use the AIR HAMMER. I'd like to try one on my Scat.
Just recently joined the Challenger family. Wanted to get your opinion on the phantom grill. I really like some of those challengers with them. Reminds me of the RS grilsl on the 68 Camaros.
Love the honesty of your videos. Not 100% sure, but taking the right faux headlight cover off may allow air in the less restricted opening instead of through the radiator as it should. A highly educated engineer didn't design it for no particular reason.
Good choice not using the Legmaker. Put your CAP back in the right side fake headlight. It is possible you will not get good cooling through the radiator openings with that open and pushing air around. The engine bays today now have belly pans so your introducing more airflow that might not be able to escape out the hood vents.
Not 1 cold air intake has made more power. Good review. Best thing to do is insulate the stock airbox. Black plastic heat soaks quickly due to infrared radiation from the engine bay - so maybe insulate - or -cover the airbox with reflective furnace tape or NASA heat shields and call it a day. Not an issue at highway speeds, but street cruising is an issue.
If you don't like the over all performance of the cold air intake there's no reason to NOT remove it. And there's no way you would've known had you not tried it out.
Thanks for your honest opinion on the intake. There's no intake on the market as good as the stock one. I've gone through intakes myself, afterwards putting my stock one back on my Scat Pack.
The intakes really only make a difference on a stock tune if you have a SC. The stock air box is actually quite good, so yeah, on a Scat Pack -- unless I really wanted the whine -- I'd leave it stock. But there's a reason that nearly every HC running in the 9s and 8s either swap to an aftermarket intake, or remove the filter altogether at the track. My advice, which you can take for what it's worth: if you like the SC whine and you plan on getting the car tuned, go with either the LMI or the Bwoody intake. Both move air at a much higher flow rate than the stock box -- and as you've probably seen by now, the Demon uses a similar open system air box. Plus you get the larger filter. Water is not an issue that I've seen, nor is the metal on the Bwoody. The Bwoody uses a similar sock, but it also has its shield designed to run water down and away from the filter. If you do go this intake route, however, you're going to want something extra to help with heat soak. The Burnbox or Tazer from Z Automotive plug in above your parking brake and allow you to control the IC pump, fans, etc., so you can lower your temps in minutes. Those are about $230-$260 and come with other useful functions, like a line lock. If you are going to do a good deal of racing, look into a heat exchanger. BWoody makes them in 2 sizes, race (3.5") or street (2.5"), and I can tell you from personal experience that they work incredibly well. Those will run you anywhere from $400-$700, depending on the size and options (like adding a NOS spray line).
Legmaker or Bwoody intake and a muffler delete is all I would do then once that warranty runs out I’d do an upper pulley and tune and thats all I’d do to it
Also disconnect battery for 10 to 15 min. Computer will relearn how to breath. I recommend a tune for the open exhaust and cold air intake combination for better results. Just my 2 cent.
SRT engineers aren't stupid.🤔 Intake temps, velocity, ect, are all taken into account. Aftermarket intakes might "make more noise", but doubtful 1/4mile track times will be better. 😑 I'm on my 3rd Hellcat. Trust me, the issue is traction. A back-halved 10k mod is needed. Other stuff is fluff.
Or because he was driving it harder. Installs a new part that makes the car whine and wants to hear it. Therefore burning more fuel and getting less mpg
That's very interesting! I would love if you compared it, with the AFe Magnum Force? I installed Magnum Force yesterday, in my Hellcat. OMFUG, the sound of 10 babies wailing. I wantd a more aggressice sounding supercharger, so I could hear it above the Borla ATAK. Oh, you can hear it, in ALL 6 GEARS. Probably the same reaction you had, to sound. Impressive, but not good enough for a daily driver. I'll have to look at the gauge performance. Less mpg would suck!
Is there a way where you can protect the carbs on intake so it doesn’t heat the engine, and also could you find a like another cover so the filter doesn’t get drench??
Why didnt you use the gt momentum cold air intake? It has an actual headlight inlet tube, is closed so nothing but air will go in, and will add up to 33 hp. Doggone it riley!
😎👍🇺🇸 Hey buddy nice job good video. It’s a little pricey just for a louder wine 🍷 from the supercharger and no performance gains dump it, it’s a Hellcat It came from the factory with a good cold air package, Wright?
Nice mod video. Luv the extra whine as everyone has mentioned, but if the mod doesn’t increase performance, what’s the point. Glad u made the decision to go back to stock. Hot air intake doesn’t make sense. Surprised that LMI didn’t adapt it better to use the headlight intake and seal it to only grab the cold air from outside and not from the engine compartment. Hopefully you can find a better aftermarket truly cold intake better suited for the Hellcat. Perhaps try a K&N filter with the stock air box. That should increase air , whine and power.
Most of the negatives you list have some validity, but being worried about water from washing your vehicle on the filter made me laugh pretty hard. Water will evaporate in the supercharger ( research water/meth injection ) long before it could cause any damage to the engine. A long form cold air, where the filter is in the wheel well is where water, specifically submerging the filter into a puddle, becomes a concern.
Good choice, on getting rid of that filter. any filter that doesn’t isolate itsself from the engine bay isn’t helping anyone, if your going to get another filter make sure it pulls air from somewhere else other then the engine bay.
Great video Riley with really excellent points no one else has made in the reviews i have seen on the cai. i am with you about going back to stock. too many negatives. also, i feel it is ok to mod a car if you are willing to take the trade off with lower reliability and the higher maintenance costs that come with it. Think about it. there is a whole team of engineers at SRT, real experts, putting their heads together to get the most performance out of the car while considering gas mileage and reliability of the car as a whole system. mess with one part of that equation and you introduce the butterfly effect. the mod has a series of affects of on the car as a whole that degrades the balance engineered into the cars systems as designed. i doubt the SRT engineers sat there and said, yeah, this design of intake is much better and is going to have a much better impact to the cars system, but screw, lets go with this one anyway and the owner can put in a good one if he wants. uh, i don't think so.
Also they probably factored in cost also so I'm sure there is better upgrades out there than stock. They don't necessarily have consumer in mind just their profit margin.
If i were you id just make a box to shield off any debris or water. Or have one made or buy one if theres already one available. The mileage is probably bc of your lead foot now that the whine is so loud lol
You DID NOT install their True CAI. That unit runs down into the fender well and away from the engine bay. Know the difference. Otherwise, I generally enjoy your reviews.
I'm very pleased with my LMI. Intake air temps are about the same or less even in the AZ heat. I definitely noticed a performance increase and SC wine is amazing. Sp 485 I agree. The choke point on a stock system isn’t the air box. It’s the throttle body size and intake manifold design.
To everyone saying that the warranty is voided because of the intake, it isn't voided unless a problem occurs and its led back to the intake being the issue. Thank god for the Magnusson-Moss act
You can say this until you’re blue in the face, they won’t listen. 99% of the people on here are just regurgitating false info

If you want a set of cat less kooks midpipes let me know. I have a spare set
Kevin Van Voris how much you want for it
Jordan Marks 400 shipped
That's what I run Riley. LMI. I met with Chris Harrigan at his shop in Florida truly nice guy!
I Dynoed my hellcat with and without the intake I got 20+ hp so I don’t know what you’re talking about, a lot more Benefits just from the sound

Yeo 23hp gain here. Heats fine and gas milage has improved well if you drive it right lol
Love mine! Love the whine !
Maybe you should stay on the porch?
Oh honey….you got a 3% increase in HP for $450. Nobody that knows what their talking about is impressed.
You dont buy that car for mpg
yea I was confused about that lol
Facts😂😂
It sounds like a police siren now.
I remember this guy's vids back when he had that Hellcat and this channel was exciting to watch, the huge grin on his face when the cat ran low 10s that time at the track was totally priceless and great vewing content
That supercharger whine sounds so incredibly AMAZING!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
I guess Im kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online?
Between the white paint and louder whine, you're going to be mistaken for an ambulance on acceleration. At least other drivers may move out of your way now.
Kevin Davis that's funny !
Hey Riley, that's why there is a pre filter you put over the filter. Stops water and things from entering the filter and intake tube.
Between that and the legmaker cover. Is that enough to keep rain out. Do you think adding a clear cover below the driver side hood scoop is necessary
Crazy how I look this video up exactly 3 years later😂
What about another 3 years
Reason #3 for Legmaker Intake.....HTXSCAT
Keep it until January! Great opportunity to test back to back with the stock unit!
Albert S. Hey, man! Wuzzup!
I have the LMI and I love it. I’m sure you’ll love it
FamilyCruisin hey ik u
I wonder if you would be able to hear the intake over the supercharger
Marciel Industries I agree, the reviews say that drop in filters perform the same if not better than a new intake. As far as sound, I don't think it would be $400 noticeable over the supercharger whine.
Oh, but it is ;)
I love the sound of the super charger
Just get a Replacement filter which is way cheaper and gives it a slight noise and keeps the air temp low as the OEM
The sound made a major difference
i just hate messing with my hellcat, i think dodge did fantastic job with it.good enough stock for me, would be good for my youtube channel to mod it but i'll live it alone.
Detroit Muscle 313 cause your a bitch
Detroit Muscle 313 yeah brother don't mess with it. You are positively right about Dodge doing a great job on all of there muscle car line up. Plus why take the risk of losing your warranty 😨
no doubt....I just want a hellcat airbox for my scat
Glad you corrected the term "cold air intake" in the end. LOL Was about to say, there is nothing about that intake that is "cold air".
It amazes me the amount of people that did not watch the entire clip and get the final impression lmao.
Usually you notice it helps the engine breathe in the higher rpm’s more so than the stock panel filters do.
You should add screens in the headlamp holes where the air goes in. I did a recent install video. Its called D.I.P.S. stands for Direct Inlet Port Screens i believe. Dont want to have debri getting inside and bouncing around hitting components. And it controls how the air goes in

That Hellcat whine is crazy sick man!
Thanks, RP for the video...I was thinking about putting the lmi on my hellcat you saved me $450
Dodge707 he saved me 450 too
Get a sheet metal guard to enclose the filter into the corner stops engine bay heat and will allow the vent in the bonnet and the headlight to feed cooler air
Look into getting the screens for both inlets bro help keep the big bugs out
The leg maker makes the SRT sound so beautiful
Getting this intake situated correctly is an absolute pain in the ass
I spoke to my service adviser at the dealer and he said an intake wont void your warranty as long as it doesn't come with a different sensor, which could mess some things up. Also if some problem ever happens and it leads back to the intake which it never will. I'm definitely getting this intake.
So from experience of running similar intakes on ATVs during motocross, that pre filter really fights off the water you don't really have to worry about that.
So did it feel faster or slower????
Should got the one from cold air induction! They're about the only one I know of that you would get a hp gain from. Proven !
Second time I ever heard of this it sounds like an old ambulance alarm but its cool
When I listen to these videos they sound like my stock HC, but everyone swears the cai is louder. I need to hear one in person I guess.
Same here
When u pulled the intake out of the box I noticed the pipe was similar to my RAM HAMMER for my Dodge Ram.
AFR in the 13s for a boosted car is extremely lean, i highly doubt the hellcat is actually that high like u said lol. Shoot 13s for a na car is lean
AWDTBSS I was about to post the same
That's where these things sit stock as well!
RP Productions looks like u were right, it seems like they run 12.7 usually on an aftermarket afr guage but the oem one shows in the 13s. Odd
AWDTBSS No matter what though, lean is still lean, even if that’s stock. I’m 14.7 at cruising and idle but 11.0 at WOT.
Love the honesty of your videos. Not 100% sure, but taking the right faux headlight cover off may allow air in the less restricted opening instead of through the radiator as it should. A highly educated engineer didn't design it for no particular reason.
Headers , pulley , e85 , one pace shaft and tune 10s all day
Good install/review. From what i can tell from reviews, non of the aftermarket intakes are that impressive, other than for sound and looks.
finally a real mod
You should try buying a intake from CAI Inc. their intake shields are insulated to keep heat out.
Good choice not using the Legmaker. Put your CAP back in the right side fake headlight. It is possible you will not get good cooling through the radiator openings with that open and pushing air around. The engine bays today now have belly pans so your introducing more airflow that might not be able to escape out the hood vents.
Hot air intake
Not 1 cold air intake has made more power. Good review. Best thing to do is insulate the stock airbox. Black plastic heat soaks quickly due to infrared radiation from the engine bay - so maybe insulate - or -cover the airbox with reflective furnace tape or NASA heat shields and call it a day. Yeah boy let the modding begin!

Dude rotate your clamps on your throttle body so you don’t see all that mess sticking up
Grocery Getter I agree! Lol
Legmaker or Bwoody intake and a muffler delete is all I would do then once that warranty runs out I’d do an upper pulley and tune and thats all I’d do to it
Look at momentum cold air intake carbon fiber. 100% sealed with intake tube connected to intake inlet.
Atlease 5 to 10% cooler air. A true horsepower gain 33hp with supercharger.
Also disconnect battery for 10 to 15 min. Computer will relearn how to breath. I recommend a tune for the open exhaust and cold air intake combination for better results. Just my 2 cent.

Dont the hellcat break drive shafts pretty easily at the strip
I hope you don’t have supercharger problems😂
Yeah I agree with the dission to take it off. The whine is sweet but all the negatives just make it not worth it.
All ready seen the same install on Paul's people hell cat
Drove a car Hellcat with and open element CAI and thought it sounded horrible. Wont be doing that to my Hellcat.
Your review was spot on!! Great idea on passing it up..
Thanks for the video. Is it loud when cruising at 60mph, for example?
Intakes change sound. That’s it.
Just bought a hellcat. Which intake do you prefer. I know you had jlt as well
Poor fuel mileage is most likely due to a leak after the MAF. Causing your car to run lean, and dump fuel once it is picked up by the 02 sensors.
Or because he was driving it harder. Installs a new part that makes the car whine and wants to hear it. Therefore burning more fuel and getting less mpg
Came clutch with the promos bro!
Put a tune in it
honest .informative review, Thanks
That's very interesting! I would love if you compared it, with the AFe Magnum Force? I installed Magnum Force yesterday, in my Hellcat. OMFUG, the sound of 10 babies wailing. Is there a way where you can protect the carbs on intake so it doesn’t heat the engine, and also could you find a like another cover so the filter doesn’t get drench??
Thank you for your honesty.
What if you got a tune with it? Would it still decrease the gas mileage? Did you disconnect the battery? I had to do that as well
please upload more often
Since the intake is right behind the headlight hole is there a risk of water getting into the engine
Hey Broheim : It appears to be sucking air thru the left outboard Headlight.
Great video Riley!
Car engine note sounds like an ambulance siren
"we are going to play mechanic today.." pretty much
Why didnt you use the gt momentum cold air intake? It has an actual headlight inlet tube, is closed so nothing but air will go in, and will add up to 33 hp. Doggone it riley!
I love it very good my boy Riley
😎👍🇺🇸 Hey buddy nice job good video. It’s a little pricey just for a louder wine 🍷 from the supercharger and no performance gains dump it, it’s a Hellcat It came from the factory with a good cold air package, Wright?

Try the afe momentum gt intake. You'll def see improvements.
You have plans for the intake? I'll take if off your hand if you wanna sell it.
The whine of a supercharger makes my nether regions ungorge
Most of the negatives you list have some validity, but being worried about water from washing your vehicle on the filter made me laugh pretty hard. Water will evaporate in the supercharger ( research water/meth injection ) long before it could cause any damage to the engine. A long form cold air, where the filter is in the wheel well is where water, specifically submerging the filter into a puddle, becomes a concern.
Nice! Thanks for being honest brotha!
Good choice, on getting rid of that filter. any filter that doesn’t isolate itsself from the engine bay isn’t helping anyone, if your going to get another filter make sure it pulls air from somewhere else other then the engine bay.
Before and after sound video clip would have been nice
You must try the NEW JLT CAI!! $350. That’s the one I’m gonna get.
Sounds great!
The stock air box on a hellcat is really good. You made the right decision taking that one off.
If you want to run 10’a, buy drag slicks! That’s all you need!
Have you thought of a afe filter the have a full cover and they make a pretty good sound
Hey Riley hopefully ull be at wolfies tonight and if you need any parts lmk I work for tomball dodge
Here’s my new child , his name billy 🤣🤣🤣
