Was delighted to see this pop up on the channel! I own the Half Pint (essentially the same amp, with just one 6V6 and half the power) and I LOVE it. I have a very nice original ‘67 Princeton as well. The Princeton makes all my guitars sound good, it’s really hard to get a bad tone out of it. The Half Pint does as well but it makes some (particularly Gibsons) sound glorious. It’s a bit brighter overall than the Princeton and has, as you pointed out, exceptional harmonics. Seems to pair well with the usually-a-bit-darker Gibson pups. I just played it for two hours this morning with my Les Paul Special. Just wonderful. It’s definitely a keeper.
Yes I have a 61 Princeton Just incredible but I'm not a reverb guy and prefer to use subtle echo instead Tremolo is glorious though LoL and I like the single tone control Yes those 60's amps make all guitar's sound stellar
REALLY love the way you play, soulful, tasty, with a lot of mojo and the sound is one of the best on UA-cam ( and I have seen A LOT) and the quality on the quality of the picture👌. Keep up the good work 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I have owned my Milkman Sideman 50W for 3 years now, and I can honestly say I have owned nearly 20 boutique amps + Marshalls/Metropoulos + Fender Super Reverb/Two Rock + Vox HW/Dr.Z and I can honestly say : my Sideman is the only amp I love with my Custom Shop Les Paul AND my Custom Shop Strat, period. I tend to play Gibsons through a King of Tone and Fenders through a Royal Blue Overdrive, also an Analog man Ardx20/Amazeo delay. I'm 100% settled on this setup, no more money spending, only on guitars now. I've recently bought a Gibson Custom Shop Freddie King ES345. Remember, the Sideman is a LOUD 50 Watt amp, and I've upgraded the Neo Celestion Creamback with a 300w vintage EV, couldn't be happier!
Hi Douglas, sounds good. Do you know what circuit design or amp the Sideman 50 is based on? If not, which type of amp would you say it comes close to in comparison, if any? Thanks in advance - EB
i owned this with a jupiter speaker IM AN IDIOT to have sold it ...INCREDIBLE AMP blows away anything Fender makes except the hand wired stuff...this is a haunting beautiful amp with an amazing reverb and trem..yeah i paid 2800 but OMG
Your gear acquisition is on a whole different level! Anyways, I hope the Bartel Roseland amp is everything that I think it is because I officially placed my order (head and cab). I did custom it to have the EL34 tubes as I am a Marshall type of guy. Looking forward to what you get next!
Ha! Btw this was a loan, not a purchase 🤣 3 amps in 3 days would be too much even for me! That is really interesting about the el34 tubes - what did mark say would be the effect with the roseland? I will be making my roseland video this week… ‘an amp, an instrument’
Great video as always. Milkman (men?) are great amps, but they’ve never just blown me away. Not sure why, probably an issue with me 😂 can’t ever go wrong with a Princeton
haha, milkmen ;) This one didn't blow me away until I recorded it and enjoyed the tone, but overall this 10w one just doesn't have quite enough to justify the price for me!
I mean, I'd love a a quiet and dynamic amp with awesome built-in trem and reverb to play in my apartment! Not ready to spend $2k, but if I was... Keep up the good work!
Wow if you close your eyes and listen I would never think its a 10" small amp, but I´m with you when your in the room with it , it´s not that full. I would also go for the bigger creamer^^
…yeah you really should try the Imperial mk ii to satisfy your curiosity when you’re checking out the approx 20w amps. It’s really the biggest TK seller for good reason. It just has the largest sweet spot in the line up. Sure, some will prefer the particular character of other models like the Flacon Grande or SkyKing. But I think the Imperial just does a better job of sharing serious mojo across the widest breadth of tones at both lower and higher volumes. If I had to choose between my SkyKing and Imperial, it’s an easy decision for me, the SkyKing would go. But I do love a sweet humbucker guitar through these two models in dual mono, both on channel two. If we meet up sometime and you still haven’t tried the Imperial, I’ll bring it with me. Cheers
The amp sounds really great. I liked it especially with the Gold SG. Speaking of small amps that record wonderfully: have you ever tried Cornell? I own a Plexi 7 that I think is marvellous and the feel of playing it is simply amazing. Lots of people rave about their Romany line (tweed inspired; unfortunately I haven't played one yet). You should check 'em out (although you don't want any more amps :-) )
Hello James, great videos man. I love that gold SG of yours as well, very nice. The reverb sounded very nice on this milkman, would I buy one? Probably not although I’m bias here as well because I’ve had my eye on the Magnatones a while now here lol 😂
I have the Princeton 64 HW too. I find it hard to explain to my connections it’s advantages over my older reissue. But to me it’s like a Matchless over a ac30. (Which can’t easily be explained in words either:/ Anyways to make it feel and sound bigger in the room. I sit on the floor about 2 foot away :) Love your playing style keep it up cheers.
I had a Milkman 100. Very cool amp but not my thing. I would say the Milkmans are more tweedy than blackpanel sounding amps. They are nicely balanced across the frequency range. I just wasn’t a fan of the drive sounds
Yeah, I get a tweedy to brownface vibe I reckon, but I didn't have any of those types to compare to right now (well the Bartel Roseland might have been a little unfair in comparison anyway). Those Milkman 100 look interesting
The Milkman sounded pretty good, especially with your SG. Whether it's worth the asking price, I'm not sure. Like you say, the Creamer makes more sense. Of the two, I actually preferred the Princeton. I can see why they're so popular for recording. When I've played them in the past, they never sounded as good in the room as yours did in this video. The penny has dropped.
hi - isn't this the half pint one. as far as ive seen the full pint 10w doesn't have the attenuator on the back as its a double 6V6 class A. just wondering.
Hey all - this is an intriguing, although hard to get hold of, amp! Sorry about losing the Princeton clips - but I really think it is worth sticking the audio only princeton clips I have at the end of the video on to hear how such a small amp can record so well ( i think!), cheers!
AND, since Iv'e been a Church player for 20+ years I wanted something light and smaller to MIC and for easy lugging around but as it stands I love then TK Falcon Grande. . ALL of them except the Dr Z I traded the Z for from the same guy so I scored $$$$ wise etc I'm just looking to thin out all I have and get ready for my golden years!!
I traded. my 2001 MAZ junior 2x10 straight across for it and it was 99.8 brand new.. It changed my game . I bought a Creamer but its got the Alnico speaker in it. I tend to flub the bottom end out on Alnicos . I ended up trading the Pint for a mint Tone King Falcon Grande... I LOVE this amp. The Milkman Pint and my CS 51 Nocater and The Engine pedal.......whoa buddy that would make a real guitar player outa a guy!!! Cheers from NW Montana
Quite the journey there man! So, if I see a Creamer I should be careful about the speaker... good point! Are you saying it is the Falcon you LOVE? Maybe I should try one...
@@JamesOnGuitar Well ya know Im an old school rocker Trower, Hendrix. etc and since I'm older and just cleaning up all of the gear I have to make room for me! Yes the Creamer sounds just like the Pints big brother . I tries a C-Gold speaker in them both and the same results for me. I never have tried it out with a Ceramic. I know then I'd love it. Its purdy and brown too with MM tilt back arms on it. For 50 years now all I have heard is "turn down" ...I HATE that!!!
@@JamesOnGuitar ALL the amps I talked about had stiff and new not broken at all speakers and were a little stale until my style loosended them up a ton and the sound and feel came to life for me. Interesting, I think I am understanding the conclusion here. I started and still only use a 8” speaker 57 champ hand-wired reissue. It sounds a bit different each time I try to play.. and I do mean try as I can’t play worthy of it. But.. the bigger more options and new design quality sounds of a 12 in, bigger sound design comes with the problem of cost and option paralysis. Digging the the channel.
Mine didn't have the Attenuator tho....Tim at Milkman said the Creamers come with a Ceramic as stock and he likes those better himself. Mine has all the top of the line appointments Im now turning 65 next month and I wanted a smaller amp for micing. ! Thanks
@@JamesOnGuitar I forgot to add this, I bought my vintage stack in 1976 for. $500.00 bucks!!!!! I still have it. I was going to give it Rhett Schull but the C-19 crap stopped him! BTW, I love your show bro!!!
@@JamesOnGuitar Pint amps=stock Alnico/Creamer amps stock is Ceramic so the Alnico in the Creamer ia an upgrade and so is the tilt back MM labeled arms. Tim said noe too many have them.
Too loud, no use for 10 watts, would love the 5 Watt Half Pint but prices raised during the last years so i can't afford it. 300 USD charge for different than blond finish.
@@JamesOnGuitar That's cool..... don't wait too long because the prices are getting crazy Almost embarrassed at the price I paid 3K but it had been properly refurbished as far as the caps and power chord and basic 60+ year old amp maintenance The tweeds we're much more common and cheaper but I wanted that rarer glorious tremolo It sounds SO good Not a reverb guy so the 65 wasn't on my radar as much It's like a cross between the Tweed and blackface and the option to run an old 2-12 w the speaker out was perfect for me Cheers man love the content
