      @C Z this is always so bizarre to me. When people say "haha I love my dog more than people! I'd kill a person before I kill a dog!" You're just crazy. Like a screw loose that's what that it is. You have a malfunctioning value system. A rational person would understand that a human is irreplaceable and an animal at the end of the day is property.

    • @TommygunNG
      @TommygunNG 2 роки тому +9

      @C Z Correct. People largely make their own situations. Basically-domesticated animals have very little input into their situations, even to the degree they can be held "responsible."
      As for the homeless and such, we as a society should do two things for them:
      1. Ensure they can get necessary paperwork, documentation, etc., for life in society.
      2. Ensure some form of daycare for their kids, so as to head off that actually legitimate excuse not to work. (I recall a program was started in the previous Presidential administration to help make that happen.)
      It's fine to add a little Salvation Army-type "soup, soap, and salvation" stuff for a night. But then, poke them to get back on their own feet.

    When my older brother was a teenager, he scared off a peeping tom with an unloaded lever action rifle. The main house was built several feet below the driveway, which allowed anyone to look into the kitchen. He came around once too often, so my brother climbed onto the roof with the rifle. When the peeper came creeping up the driveway, he heard the clack clack, and it scared him so bad that he left a brown trail behind him.

    The capability of having a revolver and rifle both chambered for the same calibre is a great idea. The Ruger Blackhawk in .357/.38/ 9mm cylinder. and a Marlin 1894c in .357 gives you a lot of variables for ammo supply. applies to .44 .45 combo's too

    • @dongilleo9743
      @dongilleo9743 2 роки тому +15

      It just makes sense to have multiple firearms for the ammunition you buy. If something happens to one of your guns, you have another that can still use the same ammo. I had a "rule of three". I got a Marlin 1894CS to go with my two .357 revolvers. I got a 9mm carbine to go with my 9mm pistols. I even got a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine to go with my two M-1 Carbines.
      I did the same with my rifles. I got a bolt action in the same caliber to match my semi autos.
      I had my collection just about perfect, then got old and disabled and had to sell or give it all away. Broke my heart.☹️

    Still a great pump gun even though it is mostly plastic, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxh4su9YgU1tWmjikirWcKJbjsFLEU62Bc but with care it will last a long time. It would be neat if Crosman would make a commemorative version of this with real wood stock, but of course it would weigh more and cost more, but hey, it would be cool. The included scope is more of a toy, but it does work for backyard plinking. I prefer to use pellets for greater accuracy, but BBs are just as good for plinking. This is not a Red Ryder folks; fully pumped it is 3 times the power of a Red Ryder and can be dangerous if not handled properly. Be safe out there.

  • @jenniferstewarts4851
    @jenniferstewarts4851 2 роки тому +33

    #1 - they use lots of different ammo - including the seriously underrated 45/70. The 45/70 is a powerful brush round. It will just plough threw underbrush and not deviate much. a 5.56 or 7.62x39 hitting branches, will start to tumble vear off course and even start to break apart... turning what should be a clean his on a boar or deer, into a total miss.
    #2 - Legal in all states, + Canada. Oh yes, lever actions are one of the few rifles that can be transported across the boarder legally for hunting, or travel to Alaska. You DO need to register it before entry, but it also gives you the option to buy ammo for it while in Canada.
    #6 - no detachable magazine, allows the weapon to get "lower". this opens up a lot of different options for shooting, especially from the prone position while yes you need clearance to rack it, you can still get off a shot while laying almost completely flat, letting you shoot UNDER thing.
    One thing not covered is the ability to "load on the run". You can fire off 3-5 rounds for example, then, reload it with 1-5 rounds when you have a break or are relocating. When hunting large number of boars and such, this means you can always have a full tube while working. This could be big if you have a group charging towards you. While with an AR you need to drop the magazine and reload... And if you only have 3-4 rounds left in your mag... you have to choose, drop the mag while it had rounds in it still so you have a full mag or just add a few more rounds to the tube while you are looking for a better angle on the boar herd.
    Lastly also under #6 and maybe 5... Because of its clean lines, there isn't as much for it to get hung up on, this allows for it to use... Saddle holsters. You can mount one on horse, dirt bike, or ATV where it wouldn't be possible for an AR or AK platform. this means you can be driving through the woods, stop, pull the rifle out of the holster. an AR and AK have to much stuff going on, from the raised optics upfront, to the magazine, to what ever people mount on them up front... this means they can't slide into a holster like a leaver action can... even a mini-14 has a hard time with saddle holsters. It either has to be holstered with a flush 5 round magazine, or without a magazine at all. This gives it another HUGE advantage for ease of access and ease of use while on trails/farms/hunting. You can even get holsters for snowmobiles. This gives them a level of usability, and protection from things like, bears, that can't be matched.

      I #8ed the run and gun, absolutely agree with you and easy to carry some 100+ round bandoleros for easy ammo access. I often think of my shotgun in the same way, I have a semi auto box fed 12 gauge, but the pistol grip pump still has the tactical practical advantage IMO. I own 4 of them in 357, 44, 30-30, and 45-70, and they are wonderful. A couple points you missed, I think, is cross platform compatibility. Having a revolver and rifle in same caliber. Then not to mention launching a 357 or 44 down a 16-20 in barrel, and the velocity gains you get.

    You forgot 2 major advantages of lever guns...
    1. Safety. Atleast with Henry (the only one I've shot) it is perfectly safe to chamber a round and decock the hammer. The internal safety prevents a negligent discharge...even if it is dropped directly on the hammer.
    2. Side gate loading for keeping the magazine topped off. While not all lever guns have a side gate loading option, it is a valuable feature if you can get one. It allows switching ammo types on the go (especially with my .410 bore Henry) and keeping the magazine topped off. Limited magazine capacity isn't much of an issue if you can keep topping off as needed.

    I used to use my dad’s 3030 Winchester to hunt with. When riding in the back of the truck, I always kept the chamber empty. My cousin kept a round in the chamber. I tried telling him it wasn’t safe, but he said he wanted to be ready if we saw something. I showed him how much faster it was to be safe. When my dad stopped, we jumped out and I had the lever down while still in the air. When my feet hit the ground, I jacked the round in and was ready to fire. I could get 2 shots off before my cousin could get his rifle cocked. So much for sacrificing safety for speed! I love how you showed the smoothness of one of my favorite weapons.

    I can totally relate to the accuracy component, even though that sounds counterintuitive. My first rimfire, like every other person in the known universe was a Ruger 10/22. And before long, I had a 50 round mag and shooting was about how fast I could pull the trigger. I bought an old browning BL22 when I was in my teens. Now I had to slow down and think through my shots. The Ruger was every bit as accurate as the Browning, but the process of shooting a lever action made my shots more deliberate, more mindful.

    Having pairs or sets of a revolver-caliber levergun and revolver(s) has a lot going for it. Shared ammunition, ability to engage over the shorter range of the revolver and the longer range of the carbine, and skill-building with both types. I have pairs or sets in .32-20, .357 Mag, .44 Mag and .45 Colt. Whenever I have the opportunity to go woodswalking, I generally carry one of the leverguns and one or two revolvers while my "conventional" rifles stay behind in the vault. I've been handloading since 1975, and since the leverguns and revolvers are manually functioned, I can throttle the ammo back for new or small-statured shooters so they can enjoy shooting without having to manage the higher levels of recoil. Working on finding a .22 levergun to add rimfire to the variety of sets/pairs.

The pistol and shotgun with birdshot at 10 yards, the shotgun with slugs at 50yards and the 30-30 at 100yards, all of her shot were within a 12 inch diameter except one shot that she overshot the target with her first shot with the 30-30. Love the video. I have the Rossi in .44, for at least 20 years. Also BLR in .358. It WILL take anything in N America, although I'd rather have something bigger for the big bears.
    The 20" barrel holds 10 rounds, but I only keep 4 in it with more on the stock. It can be de-cocked, leaving a round chambered, carried in a ready position with 1 hand, and also cocked and fired with 1 hand from the hip should it be necessary.
    The .44 is easy to reload for. From light .430 balls for plinking, to 270 grain Gold Dot's for bigger stuff. The 300 grains don't work well in the action, or maybe it's just my reloads. I fabricated .44 shot shells from 30/40 Krag brass. Had to make some simple tooling and used a lathe. I can load them single shot and have basically a .410, 2 1/2" shot shell. As you can tell, I love mine and all it has to offer.

    I have been wanting to add a lever action rifle to my arsenal forever . So , two months ago I ordered a Henry lever action ( side loading gate ) carbine, all steel in .44 Mag . Still waiting for it to be delivered. I had a Marlin .336 chambered in .30-.30 when I was 16 years old, hunted with it for years and then sold it one day . God I wish I had that thing back ! Always loved that rifle . But the .44 Mag will allow me to hunt in some restricted firearms zones in southern Michigan. And it will serve a purpose as a black bear hunting tool in some of the thick, dense cedar swamps where I hunt in the Upper Peninsula , as well as a home defense weapon . There’s just something about a lever action rifle that feels good in the hands , gives you a sense of confidence in the bush and always puts a smile on your face when shooting it , not to mention , it’s always the topic of discussion around any deer camp .

Late on Fri evening a young man from the U of WY showed up in camp with an older Winchester Model 94 30-30 with a long octagon barrel! To make a long story short, he had mastered that rifle, and dropped a large running Bull Elk with a 75 yard head shot. A few years later I bought a pre-64 '94 at an estate auction! It has been my go to rifle the past 60 years. When I hunted I took Mule Deer, Pronghorn, and Elk with it, as far out as 200 yards. Still use it on feral hogs! The one thing I really love about it is when I shoulder it and lay my cheek against the stock the front and rear sights are perfectly aligned with my eye. Don't know if it works that way for others, but it always has for me. It is also an excellent saddle gun. Eventually I added 2 '94 Commemorates, one with the long octagon barrel.

      Ikr. 9mm is cheaper than everything except .22lr bar far. The only lever action i shot was a .357/38 special and the guy reloaded. 200rds of 38 special cost him less than 10 bucks. Many years ago btw. Today 38 special is almost double 9mm.

      If you have to have a little less range time... well, I'd trade that for true security. ... just my opinion. Maybe add a PCC... Not quite the same, but it would move you in the right direction with the most benefit for the least cost and change to your real world. Stay free 👍👍

    I absolutely love lever action rifles just for the point of aim. As soon as I put the rifle up to aim it's right in line with the target, you just have to adjust the sight picture. I prefer a lever action rifle over any other rifle simply because of weight and ease of carry. I have bolt action rifles, semi automatic rifles and single shot rifles but my lever actions are my favorite.

    Great vid. I been preaching the book of Winchester for a while. I got buddies with ARs that giggle when I pull a Model 94 out of the case.
    Ok Buffalo Bill, if any rustlers attempt to steal your sheep you will be ready.
    I always say its the world's first SMG. Rapid fire (by 1870s standard) carbine in pistol caliber.
    Mines a 30-30... so that doesn't quite apply... but its still short and to the point. Easy to swing around in a hallway or vehicle.
    My main argument for packing a lever action is reliability and consistency. I have NEVER in 25 years had a misfire, a jam or failed ejection. It functions fine in the field when its cold or dirty and really easy to clean.
    Its a solid chunk of milled steel and a heavy barrel. Its heavy enough to reduce recoil and no moving parts so it is the same shot every single time.
    And the ammunition.... Even in the darkest days of 2020... i scored several boxes of 30-30 for $17 a box... at WalMart, not some super secret shop or website.
    Less than a buck a round for rifle ammo is cheap by today's standards.
    Magazine capacity is the only place it loses a point.
    I make almost the same arguments for revolvers. A field strip and clean is beyond simple and a jam or misfire is nonexistant.
    Both a lever action and a revolver will work when I need it to in less than ideal conditions.

Can't even count how many deer and hogs I've bagged with it. The occasional coyote... I love this thing. Wouldn't change it at all. My brother keeps telling me to mount a scope. We have precisely 2 firearms in my house. Both lever action. One in 30-30 (marlin 336 w/ a 16" barel) because its the type of rifle I learned to shoot on 30 some odd years ago, and the other is in .22 (henry with a 16" octagonal barrel).
    To your point about not looking too scary; when I met my wife 7 years ago she was very anti-gun. 7 years later she can run the Henry like a boss and is a confident shooter with the 30-30.
    I personally have never cared much for pistols, so these rifles were really great options for my house. Home defense, hunting, plinking. Just all around great rifles.
    Historical side note - on top of winning the west, the 30-30 lever gun also won the Mexican revolution. It was the most sought after rifle of Zapata and Poncho Villa's forces because of the rifle's speed, accuracy and availability of ammo.

    I live in Wisconsin & the lever action 30.30 still rules as the # 1 Deer brush gun. I like you have a Marlin "Glenfield" special addition that came from the factory already scoped. High grade beautifully checkered Walnut stock. One of the main things I love about my lever action is that they're perfectly balanced in the middle of the rifle, which makes them so much more easy to carry in the bush, & that's what we normally hunt in in Wisconsin. A 100 yard shot is rare here, but it will reach out much farther.

Since then I have prepared many a young man (and woman) for what to expect when they go to basic training and hit the BRM phase. Now for a long time now I COULD have taken them down to the range and ran them through the paces with an Ar-15 BUT before I do that I always have them on the range firing .223 rounds out of a break action and then lever action rifle with the lesson that before you can learn to shoot fast, you have to learn to shoot good. Slowing them down and realize just how much time you really have in between shooting opportunities during the qualification process means that they are get their shots lined up and then easily moving on to the next target after one a single attempt at any one target

It worked for us to learn to take our time. My first firearm was a Marlin Glenfield Model 25. I still have it. I only used one round at a time for the first few weeks to get accurate with it, then moved on to learning to shoot faster after I had the accuracy down. RIP Mr. Osterling.
