You know ever since I started following your channel I have accumulated more paints and airbrush equipment than I have kits in my backlog... I regret nothing 😂 Great video, keep up the great work!
I use a cheap water-based clear polyurethane wood varnish, thinned down as a protective coating on my Alclad Chrome parts before adding 2K or other more reactive top coats.
Fantastic test, I love it when you do these real world test and no matter good or bad you give us the straight up low down. Thank you very much for sharing, everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😃 😊
Just got my KBS Diamond Clear and thinner in today, Sprayed it with my Grex with a .5 needle and thinned it to about 15 to 20% like you said and it came out fabulous. Thanks from the expert information. Will use this from now on for all my car kits. Thanks again. Your the man.
The Engineered Angler here on UA-cam has done a lot of experimenting with fishing lures and surface finishes. I believe he uses UV Clear Resin as a finish coat for a lot of his lures but I have seen him dip with various clear coats as well. I'm positive he's shown where "chrome" paints need to have a mid coat to protect the surface before dipping or coating with a more durable clear. I would hope that maybe Alclad Chrome, e7's S-02 Chrome Sealer, and then KBS Diamond Clear would be a successful process to maintain the reflectiveness?
Love my raiser. New bottles for the panel liners are a ton better then the other ones that leaked and also picked up your neons I don't like using stickers so my Gundam models will now get painted eyes
When I spray over alclad I thin with acetone. The reason is that it flashes before hitting the model. This way it doesn't swell the alclad. Like it does with oms thinners.
Yeah gotta be slick when you bet on whatnot. Also gotta know what ypu are buying becuase they do have crazy deals but only if you know you know. Also for me, any hotwheel that has rubber tires amd its old school and i can find at stores, if its 10 bucks ot less its worth it, if you like the car. I got the ferrari f512m th loose for 2 bucks.
What if you mixed Alclad into the KBS diamond to give a tint of chrome in the clear. Maybe it would help with reflection while still giving a clear coat protective barrier. I also wonder how it would look with the kbs/Alclad clear over colors. I saw an answer to a question about Alclad. [ "Will this shine like chrome ?" ] on Amazon where the guy answering said about Alclad Chrome: [ "I have found you have better results if you use a candy chrome base before using the chrome. If you are dealing with plastic I would suggest using only primer sealer clearcoat and graphite the technique can be found on UA-cam." ] So I wonder how it would look mixed with KBS and dipped over a candy.
did you allow the spray chromed parts to dry a full 7 day and night span before clear? if not, thats a great deal deal of your issues. i spray chrome coatings every single day and all of them explicitly state a minimum 1 full week cure time before any top coating. if not, it moves the particulates and distorts the finish.
Non toxic? Where did you find that information? I looked at the SDS and that sure as hell doesn't read as "non toxic". It is a UV resin and I've yet to hear of any product of that type that is non toxic so that would be an amazing development if so.
It absolutely is not non-toxic. And also not worth what they're charging. UV resin is nothing new, and can be had elsewhere for less money. Personally I wouldn't recommend it as a clear coat.
I think this requiers the hydrocarbon xylene. I once used xylene to clean my airbrushes. However I think its smell is so disgusting that I wont use it anymore.
Small request. Could you do question recaps here as compilation videos? Maybe once a month or something for any of us that can't afford patreon, but might be curious on the same questions? Doesn't have to be the full demo, basic the question & results in a compilation would be perfect & give you more videos for ad revenue too.
Not related to the video, but does anyone know if you can use a top coat over the neon panel liner, or will it ruin the effect? Finally got some and I'm wanting to use it on a kit that I want a matte finish on. Order isn't arriving until tomorrow so I haven't been able to test.
I got my Diamond clear in the other day. It also get's to occupy space on my shelf and not get used since it too contains Isocyanates. No way I'm spraying that inside.
I've come to realize you just cant use anything solvent based on those chromes. What really sends that home is that alclad's recommended clear as well as most of the other companies (modo, e7, etc) recommend water based acrylic clears. The solvent just ruins the chrome
Yeah I was disappointed when I found out their 'Gloss' is a semigloss. It should be labeled as such, looking forward to seeing how it reacts over chrome.

Collecting supplies is the fun, the kits are just along for the ride 😉

You've got the coolest Patreon I've heard of yet.
Thanks buddy

Thanks Robert for purchasing my paints. Send me pics of your build when you paint them
Wow, that purple looks amazing
Oh yes, check out my review of it, Jumpwind Chroma paints
Hi. What if you put a new layer of alclad chrome ON the clear coat? Does the clear coat give a brighter/smoother finish than the paints layers?
When I spray over alclad I thin with acetone. The reason is that it flashes before hitting the model. This way it doesn't swell the alclad. Like it does with oms thinners.
I will try the next for the channel. This was a direct request so I wanted to test it
@@barbatosrex9473 specifically I use this on an alkyd varnish called old masters.
Have you tried dipping or spraying this on the nail polish ones you did?

that was kool!! think this is a very good indie! thank you!:)
😮do other clears react the same way?or is it just the kbs
Can you dip canopies and car windscreens in that diamond clear varnish??
Absolutely, many hobbyist use it for that reason
@@barbatosrex9473 OK thanks,I ask as I've never heard of it before,
Ahhh i was wrong then lol. I guess solvent based coats just won't work on these chrome paints. Thank you for the video tho!
Now you know what my Patreon is set up for. Be well my friend
@@barbatosrex9473 You too!

Beautiful colors.

The Alclad I covered here was sprayed 4 months ago
I would love for you try dipping the chrome in CLEAN ARMOR from coast airbrush? It is a new clear out to the market and no voc non toxic

I think spaying UV resin crystal clear then UV blasting it would be great test. Would be super durable and polishible.

I think this happened because the layer application was too thick. I've seen similar stuff with marine varnish when applied too much.
Well it was worth a try
Zup thanks for the video bro 😎

That's too bad about that chrome. I wonder if you did a transparent color over top of the chrome first if it would effect it as much?
Love me some chrome 😂
nice

I found a video where they use an acrylic varnish for a chrome paint that doesn’t seem to damage chrome

I would love to see a test of the Createx high gloss clear. In their video, it looks just as good as 2k.
