Coffee in hand, video on screen !! YES !! Good video ! You better keep these coming !
I'll try.
My organization uses most of StarTech's racks and I gotta say that they are absolutely amazing for the price. I just bought one for my R720, R730, and networking equipment I use for my CCNA along with equipment for my home network. One day I'd love to either get a patch panel then install keystone jacks in all of the rooms in my house.
So far I've been very happy with my rack from them. My skepticism has vanished. Hell yeah thats cool as hell! It took me many many years to get to this point. So don't worry about rushing off and getting it done. You will get there too one day.
Happy Birthday! Well one day late but close enough.
Yup close enough.
Great choice of music! Oh, and the Rack was nice, too ;-)
I figured you would like the way I display my Rack on the internet. Hoping it brings all the boys to the yard.
Now you need another rack 🤓😎
yep ill be going with this.. i have 3 4U servers and i need to put them on some thing..
Thanks. 👍🏻
Nice rack. Plenty of space. Kind of crazy considering that before I was like, will I have enough space with a 27U, maybe I should get a 32U and now seeing this 25U you bought is just plenty of space. But then again, now I find myself wondering if I will even go the server rack route. I have two 2U servers and recently decided to build my TrueNAS server with aa Fractal Design NODE 804. The reason was affordability and getting the parts I need for the case is way more affordable and easier than in a rackmount server. A Server rack is super cool however the acquisition of a good one will cost plus the various equipment for it (tablets, rails, etc). But again, it sure does look great and organized (although some would say, what looks great and organized is subjective however for organizing computer stuff, a server rack is hard to beat).
I also looked at 27u and 32u's because I was afraid 25u wouldn't be enough. I think at this point it should be plenty. I should probably start consolidating again lol. I hope the 25u is plenty of space. You could always put the Node 804 on a shelf on your server rack. To help with the tidiness and such. This is true they are a pretty penny. Thankfully ones like these aren't terribly expensive. I couldn't image having all of these systems in my office not in a rack lol. I would have 3 servers, my gaming rig, and my laptop all in one room, not to mention the network equipment. It would look awful and make the room look cluttered. This feels like peak organization to me lol. Cheers!
@@SPXLabs Definitely, unless you are good at building your own furniture, something that would look good and make it seem organized. And just imagine the NOISE generated in one single room, you'd go mad if you had your gaming / workstation in the same room lol.. About using a shelf on a server rack, I also contemplated that idea, still thinking about it. At least you gave me a good idea with the 25U, that would be perfect for me.
5:14 At first I thought 'Huh, who is that guy now?', but he just shaved 😅
Lol nice
I am thinking of getting the 42u rack but I don’t think I need that much. Can you make the rack taller?
You cannot make it taller. If you start with a 42u at least you won’t have to waste money on a second rack later
I'm putting together the 42U version of this tomorrow. How do you make real time speed up like in the video? 😉
I use Final Cut Pro and there is an option to increase the speed. That’s what I use, what other apps use to decrease the duration.
what rails did you use? will dell server rails work?
Dell sells a kit for the dell workstations specifically but I do not have it. I am using these amzn.to/3MBdy3h
what make/model are those black slide shelf are you using? Thanks
They are navepoint shelf rails -> amzn.to/47CBIlO
hello sir, you have startech 42 u open frame rack available?
Nope but there should be plenty through other sellers.
Did you ground to the chassis then to the UPS? They don’t define best practices for that..
I didn’t ground at all
3:46 aren't the "L' brackets backwards ? So that in front of the server it would hold better in the screws, then in the rear (where server is just hanging) it could rest on the bottom of the "L" brackets ?
Just asking, I never mounted any :)
I'm not entirely sure what you mean but I feel like the way I have them installed is best because the majority of the weight of my servers is towards the front. But I could be wrong about how I installed them. There wasn't exactly instructions included lol.
@@SPXLabs Yes, what I mean was that maybe the "L" brsckets would go to more the rear of the server and on the front it gets mounted with the screws directly. But I see what you mean about weight distribution.
Oooooh yeah I understand now. I could see tbat
do you know the dimension of the M8 bolts?
I dont but a Google search says this. Hopefully it’s accurate.
“Mire arrived this week with a few spare bolts. The M8 bolt total length is 21.6mm, without head 15.6mm. Thread is 1.25 as for standard M8. You can also use longer bolts.”
@@SPXLabs Thanks bro!
I have ten of those. when I ordered mine, I ONLY ORDERED ONE AND THEY ONLY CHARGED ME FOR ONE. When they didn't want the other nine back, I put them in my spare room. I'll keep one extra and sell or donate the rest.
That’s awesome. I’ve seen people say that a lot recently online. Pretty wild to get so many
Where are people ordering from that they receive so many extra?
First
Good video, but zooming out just a bit would have been a little more helpful. I found myself making sure I did not accidentally zoom in multiple times.
Noted!
What do you do with all those servers?
What are you a cop? You legally have to tell me if you are.
@@SPXLabs haha I have the same rack built recently and wondering what reason I would need a 4u server.. already have a Synology that can host multiple things
Well about 6 years ago I wanted to rack mount my gaming pc and water cool it. It was the only chassis at the time that could do it. Over the years it’s changed a ton.
@@SPXLabs legally have to tell you? what a bulshit you are!
