As a die hard fan of Luke and Satriani, I can say Eric Gales took this jam beyond any expectations.
I think a piece of it is the unexpected sounds playing an upsidedown strat rather than a lefty. But he is amazing - they all are!
He ALWAYS does though! He's so damn expressive with those lines! NOBODY expresses like he does.

Gales - Blowin' like a gale!!!! Like a true bonafide bluesman.....
Asato - Has to put on his big boots for this gig!!!! But did we ever think he didn't own a few extra-size boots in his closet. Technically and virtuosity, the best by far in this group. But. He has that extra bit of magic, that shows off his technical prowess....quite well.

Just saw ur comment today about Gales and how 👍 he is. IDK too much about his other music, but I 💞’d the duet he did with Beth Hart of ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ - they were both amazing 🔥 in my almost 70 yr old opinion!

Don’t ever underestimate a blues guitar player, hats off to Eric gales who sounded as if he was playing his own song and not playing what he learned at school
Hahaha what's that mean? Blues players are some of the best in the world, the amount of feel you have to do is insane, and it shows in whatever song

Lukather isn’t underrated among folks who know the music industry. He’s a known monster.
Lukather is never considered as a guitar hero, and it's a very good thing, because he's a musician first of all. Most of the time the "guitar heroes" are really bad music composers

Luke shows why's he's the greatest. He is never out of his element. Joe seems to struggle when its not his material imho.

Os guitarristas são vaidosos e desunidos, e estão valorizando pisadinha, wesley safadao, anita, ludimila, jao gomes..... Só coisas lamentáveis !!! Enquanto lá fora surgem, a música boa tem seu espaço. Aqui não.... tanto que nossos grandes estão indo pra lá. Mateus, Kiko, Luís Calil, Lari Basílio, André Nieri e muitos outros !!!

7:10 - 9:20 My face is absolutely melted after that. I've never seen this man play before, but the fact that he plays southpaw AND upside down (check it-- thin strings on top, heavy below) blew my freakin' mind. Such effortless runs at the end, too... Just... blown away.

Completely surrounded by younger awesome talent, STEVE LUKATHER handled his business!
Most of the time when you hear Steve play, its like seeing the tip of the iceberg. He is usually very subtle and subdued, but when he lets it rip, there is nothing that guy cannot play. Total legend.

Obviously all legends, but I was particularly impressed with Gales on this one. Aside from his incredible dexterity and ear for rhythmic & melodic phrasing, the story arch and dynamics of his solo is what everyone should strive for with improvisation.

Kenny may be a legend but if that's his best shot at reggae drumming I think we found his Achilles heel. Yikes
He set the whole thing off. Gave every soloist their own feel.
All outstanding players....Eric Gales has really incredible touch and understanding of great, unique tones...great honest sound and a really great feel and ear
I agree, they all are virtuosos in their own right, but Gales is the most 'interesting' new guitar sound in years. Always so fresh and unique!
I've always loved Gales' playing, oozing with feeling like a good blueser does and I feel like he's been holding back some in jams I've watched before! Damn, Eric has some really serious chops-stone cold killin' it and flying! Everyone sounded great though-what lineup of players in this one!

@@Marcus_C51 the fact is he wasn't holding back, he has just improved in the past few years, he has had his nose on the grindstone and been practicing new stuff, exploring more sonic realms, and of course new chops to throw around when he feels like it, he wants to be versatile now, and not pinned down by the blues moniker

Reading the comments seeing how everyone felt about Eric, I kinda dampened my expectations but when he started playing I started getting the chills. One of the few, very few players on the planet who can communicate emotional transference at least to me.
They are all so good with their own styles! Joe just has the sound, they way he can feedback those notes is just amazing. There is nothing Steve cannot do. Mateus is another wizartd. Eric is just a monster. Probably my favorite player out there that I know of today. And to hear them all start going off on BB King licks gave me the chills! What a badass jam!! Thank you for posting this guitar geekdom!!

Satriani joga muito sentimentos em seus solos bem elaborados mas dessa vez triturou muito e sem originalidade. Mas Joe é mestre em suas composições e solos de seus álbuns.Gales me surpreendeu em talento e solos criativos .

Lukather has been one of my favorite musicians, not just his guitar, but his singing, toto has been one of my favorite bands since they came out with hold the line

Wow.....Eric was off the charts......
Lukather sounded like he played closest along to the changes. Satriani stood out the most. Gales played the most freely and passionately. Asato had the most technicality and precision.
Very good description. Luke was really nailing the changes. Asato had a really nice tone to my ears too. Gales was clearly the most emotional player. I think Satch was more subdued than usual since he's usually the ringleader.
I noticed Luke playing over the changes like a jazzer as well. Satch just has THE TONE. I wish they would have turned Mateus up in the mix. And Eric can flow like no other guitarist I know of. Killer Jam.
I think their guitar we're not evenly mix as Lukathers guitar when he solo it was kind of behind compare to Asatos guitar.. Just saying..

I'll never get over how much I enjoy Eric's playing, saw him live last year and was absoloutley floored. Everyone else kills it aswell of course.
I wasn't expecting anything less from Gales, but hell, Satriani's phrasing and control is mesmerizing. My two favorite players on this jam.
They all have their own specialties and skills. Matteus is ridiculously amazing at gospel playing and other things, Gales is a God level shredder and blues player which works perfectly well for this situation. Etcetera etcetera lol

Considering that the other guys already were fantastic and successful guitarists before he was even born I would say Mateus did a great job! I would be terrified to get up on a stage with Eric, he’s like Mike Tyson!
mateus has more signature gear than albums tho.
I was honestly expecting more from him but he seems too nervous his playing was a bit rushed! Honestly his playing is much more tasteful than all these players, if he calmed down a bit would’ve played better.
That was smokin'! Awesome playing by everyone, including Joes backing band, great stuff!

The thing that sticks out most to me with all of these great players is how well they all listen to each other. In turn it reflects what each is playing and adjusting to on the fly.
There is simply no substitution for the experience gained through playing with other musicians together in the same room at the same time. Can't be faked! The real greats compliment, bring out the best and inspire those they play with vs competing with them.

Yes, Mateus is very special-only heard him for the first time about 10 months ago was completely knocked out! He belongs on that stage with all of the badasses. Yessir!

Eric Gales unbelievable talent
What a phenomenal group of players. Lukather is such a great dude too. I feel that there is a living group of guitar legends who are VH contemporaries who represent the face and are spokespersons for the history of rock and fusion guitar - Lukather, Vai, Satriani and Paul Gilbert. Besides being virtuosos, they are incredibly kind, generous and humble people. In interviews and in their playing, they pay homage to and find genius in all the guitar greats through history. They don’t call old blues prehistoric or Page “sloppy” etc. They recognize that everyone stands on the shoulders of the older masters, and they know they inspire a younger generation themselves. These guys keep love for the guitar alive for new generations. Bonamassa is like that too. Hats off to you!
