Story 1: contrary to what the ex believess, in the US if one spouse wants a divorce, you're getting divorced, signature or no signature. And the prenup should make it a pretty quick process. This dude stuff his own grave

Depends where they are at, some countries have the “both parties need to agree”, “if one of them wants to work on the relationship”, “you need to be separated for x months”. Hopefully op gets the divorce and also I’m pretty sure ops hopefully ex husband has already cheated so it might help in the divorce (I’m basing this on the fact that he threw the “I’m getting a younger woman”, and he kept his gambling addiction/investments from op

@@rickraber1249 I don't know if there is. But plenty of Americans "move" to Nevada for six weeks, just long enough to establish residency, so they can get a quickie divorce.
I am not a lawyer, especially in Nevada, but I believe that if you can serve the papers to the guy, you can get the divorce. If he doesn't answer, then it's like a default thing, and the judge just says, "I guess he doesn't care about who gets what," and makes the award based on the person suing for divorce. But if you want to fight it, you have to actually go into the court, and I think at that point, all you can really do is say, "I want my stuff!"
I don't think you can actually DENY the dissolution of marriage in Nevada.
But again, I am not a lawyer, and I could be wrong.

As someone who went through a recent divorce in GA, US. If there's no contest, then things are usually fast tracked, papers get signed, each keep own debt, and split items equally. Contested(meaning the other party went I don't agree to this), the lawyers do discovery(collecting information from both parties about finances, etc), communicated with lawyer of other party if they have one. If the contesting party doesn't have one, there is a mandatory wait time to allow them to collect information and submit it. If after the mandatory time, they still don't communicate then a judge can compel them(pm saying this is your last chance to get your side in), followed by more mandatory time. After said mandatory time, then a court date is set, and both parties are notified with via email, and snail mail. If you fail to show up to the court hearing, then the party that shows up is pretty much guaranteed to get what they want.
It takes a bit longer, yet still yields results. In her case, she has a prenup and, with a good divorce lawyer, can probably make him pay for any court and attorney fees that she may accrue in the course of the process.

Story 1: NTA sounds like husband has a case of “what’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine too”. When my husband made more money he paid for more things but always gave me access to his money; I would always ask if I wanted to make a large purchase that wasn’t for groceries or household expenses. The tables have since turned and now I’m the breadwinner and I send him money when he needs it and he will ask me when there is a large purchase to make. This is how a marriage is supposed to work.

This is how a marriage is supposed to work. Exactly. My dad quit his job as a teacher because the system wanted to separate our family (corrupt greedy manipulative perverts were trying to 'snatch' my mum). My mum transferred to another school, but she's still and has always been government employed. She's been the major breadwinner in the family ever since.
My dad works. He has always worked very hard, but being self employed has so many challenges.
But I've learned from them the meaning of a real committed marriage.
Sometimes they gripe at each other as is normal, but there's so many ways that people today trivialize a real marriage by refusing to be really and truly supportive of each other.
      It's so sad to see.
Two are better than one and a strong marriage is the best chance people have to fight through life. Humans have just become so selfish and narrow sighted.

Sadly I personally watched almost the exact same thing happen to my youngest brother. Only his wife and her family asked him to sign the prenup.
At the time he was a Captain in the U.S. Army and his wife to be was a medical receptionist.
So he agreed and signed the prenup.
Separate finances with the home finances divided between them, 50/50.
Dutch or 50/50 split on all out of home activities. The owners of the vehicles paid for everything related to that vehicle.
I suppose her family didn’t know that Officers have college degrees in diverse fields. Well now even most enlisted do as well.
25 years later, he retired as a Major and immediately crossed over to work the civilian side.
For some reason the fact that he had a PHD and worked as a psychiatrist while in the Army never came up.
Evidently his parents loved to tell everyone in their family and anyone who showed up at family gatherings, that he was just a moron that was in the Army who jumped out of perfectly good airplanes and helicopters and that his two older brother were just as stupid because the only job we could get was in the Army and everyone knows the military only takes stupid people that can’t make it on the outside.
I always thought her parents were stupid, and she was nice but really had no interest in what my brother actually did in the Army. He would always ask her if she wanted to go to meals and other office related functions but she wasn’t interested, since she had to go to hers.
Both our second brother and I were there when he graduated from Airborne School, Air Assault School. In fact he used my pins to get his blood wings (as did our 2nd brother)
Basically they just thought he was some kind of grunt and did not find out that he was a Doctor of Psychiatry until his wife told her parents that he had a job already and started work as a Doctor at one of the hospitals in San Antonio.
I mean that’s pretty much what they said, he can’t do anything on the outside because there are no jobs that require jumping out of airplanes and helicopters that pays really well.
Boy were they all surprised when he retired and immediately started pulling in some really excellent cash. His wife had asked if they would be okay now that he was only going to get a retired Major’s income. He told her that she didn’t need to worry, that he already had a job and he told her where and how much.
He did also teach part time at a local college and a few on line colleges mostly towards the end of his military career for extra money.
I never really figured out what their problem was, but once I found out that they wanted him to help fund them in their old age. I asked him if he was going to do it and he said no. He was responsible for his wife and their two dogs and would not be giving or loaning one darn dime to his in-laws ever.
I will admit I poke them every chance I get about the prenup and the division of finances and property. It’s not like I don’t live dangerously at home, I love to poke at my wife. Sometimes you poke the bear and sometime the bear mauls you. We have been married over 40 years and dated for three years before she asked me to marry her. (A whole different story).
I love my brothers a lot. His wife is nice enough and is always friendly and it is evident that she truly loves my youngest brother, but her folks, well let just say we have a hate/hate relationship and I won’t have to sleep on the couch if I make them mad or their daughter, which I might add surprisingly has never happened. Although she has apologized for their behavior multiple times. I finally told her that she should not apologize for grown adults who act shamelessly.
I love sticking it to them absolutely every chance I get.
My wife gets mad and goes straight to the slapping the back of my head, and warns me not to cause trouble when we visit.
We went to a shooting range, one that caters to the long range shooters.
Let’s just say he dropped close to $30,000.00usd on a really really nice rifle setup. Like everything in the world brand names matter. All three of us pretty much have the same types of rifles, just different manufacturers.
When we pulled up to his house I immediately noticed their car in his driveway. My care o’ meter broke upon seeing that they had parked in the middle of his two car driveway. Basically blocked anyone else from being able to use it.
So we grabbed our gear, and made our way inside.
My wife, his wife and her parents were talking about how hard it was to make ends meet on just a retirement check and Social Security. While they were extremely grateful that their only child tried to help them out, more should be done
My wife looked at me and gave me the patented don’t do it look.
So I just told my brother, man that was a sweet setup. What did you drop on that? $20,000.00usd on the rifle. So I asked what about the scope, bi pod and all the other things.
He said about another $10,000.00 or so maybe a bit more.
I earned the butt chewing my wife gave me for talking money like that in front of his wife’s parents.
My wife told me can you imagine how they feel after telling us how hard it was to make ends meet and you get your brother to talking about dropping $30,000.00usd on a toy?
My response was well it sucks to be them, they forced him to sign a prenup because they owned a 1950’s mobile home and 3 whole acres, and us dumb Army grunts are to stupid to make it in the real world.
Heck he had a three bedroom home and 5 acres before they got married.
Granted one room is his office/storage/storage.
Yet they were worried about him taking their daughters earnings and going after their family property.
They are still married, her parents are still alive and still asking for her to get him to give them money. Not happy with the meager amount they can get from their daughter.
I should point out that neither of them wanted to have children, which is another bone of contention. Especially when I heard her parents tell her that it was her job to help carry on the family name. Hmmmm, she has our last name, and things may have changed lately but isn’t it the male of the family that Carrie’s on the bloodline and family name?
My brother asked us and our other brother along with our son to come to his house to discuss his will, and to give us all copies.
Her parents showed up and I thought it would be out off until they went back home (but it has become a “thing”, when they find out that any of his brothers or his niece or nephew are visiting they show up to make sure to beg for money or try to go out to eat with us or join in on the free food because we all grill or cook and provide the food and beer.
Anyway turns out that other than a few items that are war marked for me and 2nd brother everything is going to our son, and I mean everything. Truck, Harleys and just about every darn thing in his office.
He did ask that our grandchildren (if they grow up to be good people) that our son share some of the firearms with them.
My two brothers both have no children, and all our wills are close in nature. My wife does not care about my firearms or motorcycles, so my will stipulates that my son gets all of the firearms and motorcycles, other than some that are earmarked for my brothers and the same clause about my grandchildren.
However my wife and I have always had combined incomes, while both my second and fourth brother do not. They both have their money and their wives have their money.
I almost stroked out, I couldn’t stop laughing at the look on his in-laws faces. It looked like they actually forgot how to suck air in and out.
Even when I left the room my wife said they could still hear me laughing. We are talking full on manically. Even some years later I still start laughing just thinking about it.
I wish I would have had a camera running to snap a picture.
On a side note later on my wife popped me in the back of the head and called me a Jackass….probably because she had to go out back and make me stop laughing. Worse every time I went inside I would look at them and they would glare at me and I would start laughing and pointing at them again. Then got sent back outside (by my wife) until I could control myself.
Now none of us are what we would consider to be rich, but we are in the high middle class, and are not hurting for money.
The Army used to like to give out some serious bonuses every time we re-enlisted, then count in tax free military retirement with wives that also work, you can bank some serious cash by not spending your retirement.
My wife was in the Air Force, so she receives a retirement (most of it is non taxable and I was in the Army and the civil service, then retired as a GS-11.
My 2nd brother owned his own business and banked his retirement.
We don’t live at our means, but below it.
Anyway, sorry for the long story, I just couldn’t help it since it was close to what had happened to my brother.
Take care and stay safe, wish a better life and much happiness to OP in the future.
However our children, my 2nd and 4th brother and their wives though it was hilarious.
Evidently (at that time I was 60 years old) adults don’t act that way, or some such nonsense. According to my wife, she gave up on telling me that I embarrassed her, okay in all honesty on multiple occasions throughout our 40 years together.

Like she's living like a college pauper all these years after college? Huh? She didn't buy an expensive phone, or ANYTHING except a car? I loved the last story and can so relate. I come from a long line of story tellers. We don't really lie, most of the stories have the basic facts and truth, but given that we have a way with words, do sound effects, and have a slightly twisted sense of humor it is possible for us to take a pretty straight forward, ho-hum story and have people think it is an adventure.
When I married my ex, my two daughters were fairly young and we started some of our own holiday traditions because we were living away from the extended family and both my husband and I did not feel a need to bring all of our old traditions into the new family. One of the first things we ditched was the tradition of turkey for Thanksgiving. We decided to go with Cornish game hens since neither of us wanted to deal with trying to bake a hugh turkey and all the left overs, along with have 2 girls that were not fond of turkey. So, let the new tradition begin.
On Thanksgiving we bake the birds and each of us gets a beautiful little game hen with all the rest of the regular Thanksgiving side. Two little girls look at this miniture turkey and declare that they do like turkey, so we tell them it isn't turkey. My youngest starts to tear up and than tells us she doesn't want to eat the chicken baby. So I tell her it is not a chicken baby it is actually a pigmy chicken and we were in fact saving regular chickens for the attacts of these vicious little chickens. So, my Husband, see that the girls are now actually interested in eating this new food on their plates joins me in the tales of the pigmy chicken and why it is actually the perfect food to celebrate Thanksgiving. We tell them about how pigmy chickens live in forests and raid the chicken coops and torment regular chickens, so we are doing a favor for the chickens.
It went on for a while, with pigmy chickens becoming the go to, super fancy dinner for family celebrations like birthdays and good report cards. So, about the time the girls were 12 and 11, we found ourselves back in the hometown and once again had extended family to deal with at holiday time. I had shared the pigmy chicken story with my mom, who was the storyteller and she loved it. I had really not shared the story with my mother-in-law because although she was a very nice MIL and we got along, she did not always understand my sense of humor. She tended to be very no nonsense and in some ways sort of let me know that I wasn't quite what she expected her son to marry. Well come the Holidays and my MIL wanted us to come to her house for Thanksgiving. That was fine with me because my father, and my brothers too worked law enforcement and holidays tended to be on a very flexible schedule with my family. And because it was the first holiday we would be with MIL she asked my girls if they wanted Ham, Turkey or roast beef because she wanted to fix them whatever they like best. So, they tell her that anything she cooks would be fine, but their favorite was Pigmy Chicken. Oops. So, MIL is trying to figure out just exactly what pigmy chicken is and my girls start relating the whole Pigmy Chicken lore as told to them by Mom and Dad. She is so confused and so are the girls. It takes a while for MIL to finally realize it is Cornish game hen, and now she is getting some idea of just how strange I am, and how much I have twisted her son.
It caused a bit of tension because she felt the whole story amounted to us lying to the kids. We had a discussion that Pigmy Chickens were sort of like our Santa Claus and she had been fine with the Santa story. We even sat the girls down and actually cleared up the Pigmy Chicken myth so they would not go ordering it in a restaurant. But my girls are now in their 40's and have families of their own. I am no longer married, and their step dad, although great while they were growing up has been out of their lives (his choice) for a long time. But we still have Pigmy Chickens and the myth lives on in our family. And, even long after my girls learned about Cornish Hens they will still order Pigmy Chickens from restaurants and sharing the story with waitresses.

Ah, the myth lives on. When our kids were little and saw their first black and white photo, we told them that it was because color hadn't been invented til recently, and that the whole world used to be just black and white. And weren't things much prettier now? Also, remember McDonalds used to have ball pits in their play areas? Well, we were taking them out to dinner one night, and they asked where we were going. We told them, The Liver And Onions Palace. There was a moment of silence from the back seat, and then one little voice asked if they had a play area. We said yes, they had a quicksand pit and a nettle patch. (Figgered that would be an appropriate play area for a restaurant with a name like that.) More dead silence, til we had mercy and told them the truth. PS It was a sad day when they both reached The Age of Skepticism. Sigh. BUT - now we have a whole new generation of ready victims: Grandchildren!

When you have a subordinate who does most of your work and lets you take the credit, and get away with "client golf meetings," because they are covering for you, you should absolutely, always and forever, read THEIR emails, even if you don't read anyone else's. ALSO, DO NOT tick off the person upon whose shoulders your are relaxing when you should be working. If the boss had approved the vacation for three weeks, he probably would have had several more years of his lazy golf-playing "with cause" "work" and good pay and benefits.
Now, he has to look for another job, where they will probably MAKE HIM WORK. So, yeah. He had a good thing, and he lost it, because the ONE email he actually bothered to read was a request he decided to deny, JUST to flex his power and stick it to the underling.
And I bet the OP got paid for those 5 weeks of accumulated vacation, right? Because HR and Payroll weren't assholes who decide to screw their employees and break labor laws?
Oh, this story was soooooo good. Thanks, LG!

Last story reminded of when I was telling my daughter about the different glands and what they did. So...I added that a hyperactive Farticulatory Gland causes people to be excessively gassy. She was aghast and asked why so we even have that. Said she'd get hers removed when she's a grownup. I told her it was a joke the same day. We still laugh about hyperactive Farticulatory Glands.

Well, yes, that's what I think...(!) If you have pulled someone's leg, you tell them shortly... Then it can be fun for all..!
But to let it be for 15 years..? And derogate the one who trusted you enough to not go around double checking your words, by calling her stupid..? That to me is being an arrogant ass... OP's wife have forgiven him, though, and seems ok with it, so good on them, but I agree with someone else's comment, that he should buy some great Christmas presents for a few years... 😏

Story 1: Absolutely NTA!!! In a world where women in general make less than men in similar professions, and women in general are in more vulnerable positions career-wise and money-wise if they have children, she should guard her money, 100%! What's good for the goose is good for the gander, and he should realize the prenup always went both ways. :) It's obvious his attitude was belittling of her if he thought he was protecting only himself with that prenup, lol! Also, in the eventual divorce, you don't want to get stuck paying alimony to this a-hole because you were the major earner and he persuaded you to act against your interest in opening up the prenup.
EDIT: Yeah, he wants your money for his gambling habit. :/ You didn't over-react. Divorce him ASAP.

She is lucky they signed a prenup or he may have drained her savings as well.

He may not have realized how much qualified nurses make these days, especially in certain fields. Years ago nurses didn't make crap for paychecks but were heavily depended upon. Thankfully that has changed over the years and besides the much needed pay increases nurses have been given more (and higher) responsibilities in the medical field. Probably also made the mistake because OP is a contractor nurse meaning she is not employed by any one hospital/institution. Since nurses are needed everywhere she can make good money that way.

Some in-laws are even worse. I know a gal whose ex-MIL actually set her darling baby boy up with his high school girlfriend, while he was married, 20 years after high school. He dumped my friend (biggest favor ever!) and married the HS sweetheart (?) who also dumped her hubby to form the new liaison. Always felt kind of sorry for her, knowing the guy she married, who was also a narcissist with some not-great addictions.

Take a 6 week nursing assignment to Las Vegas or Reno so you will be considered a citizen of Nevada. THEN file for divorce there. His agreement wont be a factor and you will be granted your divorce with minimal effort. You can even give him a token $10 a month "support" if necessary.

Story 1: So the dude who has a gambling problem and appears to not be even really good at it want's to go professional. That's like saying people who OD are professional drug user's.
Also TIFU I know for a fact Google and Wikipedia were a thing 15 years ago, people will say untrue things, it's your fault you believe them if a quick search nowadays can disprove it.

But they are professional! Right up to their dying day./s
They don't care when it breaks their mind and their families, that's just collateral. I speak from experience in the "collateral" perspective, and doubt gamblers are very different to druggies.
