An interesting nugget of food for thought. It doesn’t actually matter if your bait is the color red, if you’re fishing with your bait in deeper than 15 feet of water. The color red in the light spectrum is fully absorbed by the water within the first 12-15 feet of water. Which is why when you see spear fishermen diving in the ocean, blood often times looks completely green in color, until they are closer to the surface. When a color is absorbed by water, anything that is that color, at a deeper depth, becomes a color much more similar to the surrounding water, or black in appearance. So any red baits, in water deeper than about 15 feet, will have a dark green to greenish blue to black appearance, depending on the depth.
Thank you, Tim! The monologues are more fun than I imagined they would be. Nathan and BTC wanted me to do them. I wasn't so sure, but now I have fun with it. And the Top 10 is a contentious labor of love -- we battle to pare those down to just 10! We usually start with at least 40. -- Ken
The team at Bass After Dark has created something special. It was a great topic to discuss. I learned a ton from two Hall o' Famers last night. Fritts discussing some of his super effective sleeper colors that he can't get the big brands to make!!?? Steve Quinn talking about how slight changes in color can make the day. All great insights. Honored to be a guest. Thank you Ken, Brian and Nathan. Keep the great topics coming.
@@blahblahmilbury Thank you. What an amazing opportunity to talk with the Crankbait King, David and legendary editor Steve Quinn from In Fisherman. Learned a ton. Ken, Brian and Nathan have something special here.
David is the Crankbait King! Loved hearing his theory on color and how slight color variations can make a difference in your results. Also his tip about the belly color of a crankbait too...and what about his favorite sleeper colors that he can't get any manufacturers to make?? I think the custom painters are about to get busy.
It's the forerunner to what Ike would do nowadays in Michigan in rivers, or Pennsylvania for the lake-run rainbow trout. The British had a series on game and course angling tradition, which had the footage of anglers from a bygone age. Entitled 'Anglers Corner', with a pipe smoking older gentleman seated in his study. There was both the series 'Anglers Corner Game Fishing' and 'Coarse Fishing'. In which an angler fishes on the Lunn river using a Devon minnow bait. The jerk bait lure came along after, which was a more sophisticated lure by comparison. However, even when throwing Devon minnow lures, they still carried a number of colours.
Mr Duke what a masterful and thoughtful introduction on this episode. Getting to meet and shake the hand of Mr Fritts was the highlight of the ft worth classic, truly the crankbait master. EE is always on his A game with the intricacies of baits. BTC really had some great questions tonight. If Trait doesn't run to someone with the color "Bait Zaldain" it will be a tragedy
Appreciate the props! It was an honor to join the HOF Guests! Dream come true to talk with Fritts---the CRANKBAIT KING and Steve Quinn because I must have a million words in InFisherman by now.

"Bass After Dark" is mainstream ... already? LOL I like it, but fear we are just a plucky upstart after only four episodes. Epic Eric is already well known in the fishing world. At BAD, we know we're just swimming in his wake. -- Ken
Great show, thank you. I get up early and missed it because its late for me. Appriciate listening to the replay during my morning. Wish you continued success with the program.
Great show. Your intro is awfully long (though entertaining) but your monologue was spot-on. I appreciated the seamless and timely historical perspective. As a kid in the '70s I remember well how Japanese toys and things were considered junk…because they were. That's sure changed...
Yes it has! And thank you for the kind words. As for the intro being long, we really don't consider the countdown to be part of the "show" -- just an alarm to let you know we're coming! -- Ken
Legend EE hitting the comments grid stuff bro.. definitely be a good show and probably the only format to get the two together because if they knew ahead of time the wouldn't do it

Looking at historical use of gear tackle and small wooden minnow lures, with quite early baitcasting reel tackle.
