This is a great one. I love watching shopping videos from Japan and China, and this is one of the longest I've seen ever. The layout looks a lot like the Home Depot stores here in the States. Thanks for the vid. :)
If you wash your blueberries, place in a single layer on a cookie sheet and freeze them, then put in ziplock, they will stay fresh and not be all frozen in a ball.. It works great!
Finish for dishwashers has been around for years here in the US! Yes! Double Bubble is an original American bubble gum. I use to chew it as a kid in Texas! I love lime sparkling water! We also now have small cans of different fruit flavored sparking water without sugar. I don't like Nutella. I love Perrier....lemon or lime!
Thank you for letting me know what to expect from Costco in Japan! Also, the "Japanese" cherries were Rainier cherries...these are from Washington state names after Mt.Rainier.
Please make more videos like this! I truly appreciate the fact that you added the price of the items you pass - I was really trying to gauge my expenses when I move to Japan for awhile. Thanks!
Finish dishwasher detergent used to be Electrasol dishwasher detergent. They changed the name some time ago. Maybe 6 or 7 years ago? Chia seeds people eat because it's heart healthy and loaded with fiber. I find them in a lot of breads or muffins etc. They're also the same that's spread on those terra cotta "chia pets" ppl give as gag gifts or for kids to grow at home. Quinoa (pronounced: keen-wah) can be made similar to couscous or rice.
Had to double check what year this was made. Chia and Quinoa has been everywhere for the past 3-4 years in north America. Chia pudding is actually really good and I think would fit Japanese tastes very well- it is like a softer tapioca ball that has slight fruit flavor but picks up flavors of other ingredients quite well and is lightly sweet. Quinoa... not so sure that is probably something few Japanese would use much.
This was so enjoyable to watch. I mean who doesn't love Costco!? Buy the Chia seeds. Make lemonade and put about 2 tsp of it in there. It is great for digestion.
Finish was top rated for dishwashers and I used to buy it but find Costco (Kirkland) brand works just as well for much less money. Most Kirkland items are good value.
I enjoyed watching the produce shopping. I work at a luxury hotel here on Maui and when we get big groups of Japanese guests they just devour the fruit plates we set out. It's nice! I love those huge Fuji grapes!
a ramp style escalator to bring cart with you so cool, I would like to ride a cart down that escalator but someone would have to catch me as I get to the bottom LOL
Chia seeds are what you get with Chia Pets.. you remember those, right? Mix them with water and they swell up into a goo, much like basil seeds do. Apparently that's the "fiber" that's supposed to be good for you. I think people mix it with fruit juices and such to get fiber. We don't use Chia seeds here (Malaysia) but we do use basil seeds (biji selasih) - we soak them in water until they swell up and mix it with rose syrup water. More of a seasonal/festival drink than something you'll come across in a restaurant.
fun fact: These escalators don't use magnets. They have special wheels made off multiple (two or more) thin discs that slide into the gaps of the escalator. Inside or outside of the wheels are non-movable parts that then rest on the surface of the escalator and stiction does the rest. Yay physics! (ᵔᴥᵔ)
First time I came across those it took me a LONG time to figure out how they worked. It actually took several trips and some close observation, and until I figured it out it bothered me to no end. I thought they were magnetic, too. Now I need to find out what a "superchat" is.... ^_^;;
In Canada people tend to fill their carts - Costco is often called the “$300” store - in Japan it seems much more moderate - I don’t see any packed carts.
They have Finish in the Vons Supermarkets in San Diego County. Just bought 4 packages of blueberries and strawberries, same size, here in San Diego...cost $2.50 per container (on sale)!
I love Costco no matter how hard you try you always end up walking out with more than you planned and it's almost impossible to stay in budget. Besides pizza a costco hot dog are the best there at the concession
+Godbless America I know!! I'm walking back to the train station and my back is killing me. Need a car for he next haul. I may have to do a part two where I buy A LOT MORE! Mangos are in season and they only sell 4kg boxes!! I'll be baaaaack!!!
you need one of those foldable carts. www.google.com/search?q=foldable+grocery+cart&oq=foldable+gro&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.9683j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=foldable+grocery+cart&tbm=shop
So glad Costco here in Japan is now offering delivery service! John you can buy the brownies in smaller sizes at National Azabu in Hiroo and Nissin in Azabu Juban
John I'm curious to know how you've decorated your home. You mentioned at the beginning of the video that you needed some lights. What type of decor is in your humble abode? Are your bookshelves full of manga along with a 75" Sony 4K TV? Can you do a video of what your neighborhood encompasses?
In Canada Costco doesn't sell any alcohol for some reason. Before only 2 stores sold alcohol, LCBO and The Beer Store but now Loblaws (a chain of supermarkets) is allowed to sell wine and beer, I wonder why Costco isn't allowed to sell them.
My Costco (US) has a rice aisle, but it's less than half an aisle wide and never have I seen any short-grain rice for sale, only medium/sushi rice in addition to the long-grain variety.
Chia seeds are awesome! I put them in my smoothies :) And those cakes look soooo good! John: "It's so big! Can ONE person eat this?!?" Me: "I sure as hell am gonna TRY!!!"
The dessert issue....We buy it, check out and sit in the eating area and share it. Lol Not sure if they roast the chickens there, but we also do that with the chicken instead of buying something from the food court, like pizza. When we buy the big desserts, cheese etc I break it down into two servings and and freeze them. So I buy in bulk and freeze. My Costco is over an hour away in Virginia.
I used to be a total coffee snob, but then I switched to instant espresso by Nescafe, life has become much simpler now, and the taste is always on point! and I can get wayyy more caffeine much faster!
You should always take a car or small truck / van to Costco. Also when you buy big things that might go to waist ask a good neighbor if they might want to have or buy half.
Yay Costco! Love the card picture lol! You have amazing restraint when it comes to food shopping John, I'd of bought loads more fruits, bread, the apple tart and flan and just got a cab home. Thanks for the insight and hope the food court wasn't to long a wait.
I know this is late but fruits which have a lot of water content also have more mold spores, so they tend to rot faster than the drier varieties. I have mold allergy so anything as juicy as a pear gives me a sore throat and flu like symptoms.
Funny to see that in Japan, that the shoppers are just as crazy as those in the US. Love when samples are out and everyone just leaves their cart in the middle of aisle. Looks like a car pile up.
It's like Sam's club and Costco in Hawaii. A lot of local brands that visitors have no clue what they are.😂 we were literally just talking about Costco out there. We weren't sure if an American Costco membership would get us through the door. Thanks for answering that!!
Quinoa is a semi cereal much appreciated for its nutritional value and you can cook it like you do with rice only much faster and you can eat it with vegetables and sos..many different recipes with quinoa. And chia its an amazing food. They get gelly once they are put in liquides. I put mine in rice milk and i make them like a pudding with banana and other fruits or you can make it salty with different oils and onions. Its very healthy food for your everyday diet.
Hey John, Steph here. Thanks for the awesome video, got to say I have never seen a Costco with a second floor. That escalator ride was pretty cool, I've never seen something like that. How was your trip back home? Hope you got everything you wanted. 😊 did you get to pick up the box of brownies? I work at a bakery so I know all about the sweet tooth lol thanks again for the video. Enjoy your day John! 😊
Yellow cherries also come from America. The package on the lighter ones literally say "Rainier" because they were developed in Washington state, so they're named for Mt Rainier.
Vijay Visweswaran I looked into it and it seems like something I'll buy next time I go! I've not been up to date on food trends. The Coconut Oil trend is dying down now. The Acai juice trend ended in 2015. Maybe this is the 2017 trend!!
We don't have Costco in Poland, but we have a similar outlet (you know, buying in large quantities for a better price, usually companies or big families are shopping there, and you can find everything, from food to furniture) and it's called Makro Cash and Carry, it is a German chain store :) And as for cherries we have both burgundy and lighter ones :D
Olga Kitlińska-Szopa you have both cherries? I'd never seen the light variety until I came here. Same as the mushrooms! So many here!! America only has one or two mushrooms that are mainstream.
Yeah, Poland is famous for growing many varieties of the same fruit species. We have like 40 different types of apples (we export them worldwide, probably to Japan as well), few types of cherries, pears, plums and berries. It's a real fruit heaven, plus the landscapes are great, the prices are relatively cheap, so please come and visit one day, you'll fall in love with Poland :D
Nuttelex is an Australian manufacturer of margarine. First manufactured in 1932, its namesake brand is the oldest brand of margarine in Australia. Arigatō! for the videos ジョンさん!
Before google translate I saw the cupie mayonnaise in the Asian store and we could not figure out what was in it. It was semi flesh colored and had a picture of a baby on the front.
And both are the same brands they sell in the states, 80% of this costco looks the same as it is in the US (even the Yoshida's). The 20 % that is different looks to be the same 20% that is different between two stores in the same city. I find it absolutely fascinating!!! 😲 Food court is just pizza, soft server, and sausages at all the ones in my city. Same 3 items, with variation, in each one of the dozen in my city.
I can't get over the fact that you sound exactly like Johnny Depp's version of Willy Wonka in the remake lol. You even get genuinely excited about everything like him haha, it's great. I really enjoy your channels by the way!
Hey John, the caramel flan is actually very easy to make. Here in the Philippines we call it leche flan. Try looking for the recipe on Google. Try leche flan. 😀
The drivers license got me thinking. You still have your both your American drivers license and passport, right? Do you therefore still have to pay taxes in the states / need an address there?

that kid hugging the yellow pole and wishes him well. lmao
I thought it was cute too! I’m 🤔 thinking it looks like a minion from Despicable Me?
LOL WHEN HE SAID “WHAT THE HECK IS FINISH?” I died. They have it in America
Things like cakes and pies, you can freeze if it's too much to eat at once. You can also freeze cheese and butter etc.
Finish for dishwashers has been around for years here in the US!
Yes! Double Bubble is an original American bubble gum. I use to chew it as a kid in Texas!

I don't like Nutella. I love Perrier....lemon or lime!
Thank you for letting me know what to expect from Costco in Japan! Also, the "Japanese" cherries were Rainier cherries...these are from Washington state names after Mt.Rainier.
I was just gonna say that. We used to live within visual of the orchards. I know a Rainier Cherry when I see one...oh, and that label lol.
Please make more videos like this! I truly appreciate the fact that you added the price of the items you pass - I was really trying to gauge my expenses when I move to Japan for awhile. Thanks!

Kitterz finish has been the leading dishwaser detergent brand in australia for as long as i can remember and im 34
It has been advertised in America for a long long time. I have it right now , on my counter
He's a guy!!! Lol!!! Kid!!!
They also own the Jet Dry brand too.
Had to double check what year this was made. Chia and Quinoa has been everywhere for the past 3-4 years in north America. I live in Seattle, home of Costco 1 (Costco designates their stores by number). It's amazing seeing how similar Costcos around the world look.
Finish is a dishwashing detergent in Australia
+Von Keomalavong is it? It's nice to see new brands here!
We have it in the states as well.
We have it in Europe as well (I'm from Poland)
Finish is a product from Germany. It used to be named Calgonit. It's origin comes from Pforzheim :)

These supermarket runs are wonderful! I hope you can do more of these John!
When I go to Costco here in Hawaii I have to drive to the other side of the island... but so worth it. Especially for the fruit and veggies!!!
On my bucket list to visit Japan one day - really enjoying your vlogs! Thank you!
That lady grabbed 3 SAMPLES!

Zouga007 woah!! Awesome physics lesson!!

Watched this live, watched it on the anniversary this year as well as today again. This was fantastic....could you do one of these again?
I think I did two Costco episodes, one eating sushi there :)
@@onlyinjapanGO Yes sir, you sure did. I was only reminiscing about it because I had just watched the Donqi video before it
In Canada people tend to fill their carts - Costco is often called the “$300” store - in Japan it seems much more moderate - I don’t see any packed carts.
Both the cherry types were grown in Washington state!
By the way, you are so freakin’ adorable!!! 😆I love your energy and enthusiasm! So cute!!
They have Finish in the Vons Supermarkets in San Diego County. Just bought 4 packages of blueberries and strawberries, same size, here in San Diego...cost $2.50 per container (on sale)!

I can confirm, we have roasted seaweed at American Costco. I was surprised to see it myself.

lac92576 Chia so trendy😆
Finish is also in the UK for dishwasher. It cleans dishes ,pots and pans. Hope that helps

In Sweden Finish is a well known premium brand. It's a detergent for dishwashers. The brand name hasn't changed in Sweden.
I love watching as he's seeing things like: chia seeds, which many use in smoothies and in other dishes, or the quinoa - it's a grain. I subbed.
Usually the carts have a tread made for gripping in the escalator belt.. Ikea does the same
Dude. Seriously? You didn't get there by car? I think that should be a requirement when going to Costco.
You need a mid-size car minimum in North Amerca Costco. You need the room for the bathroom tissues and water alone takes half your trunk space.
quinoa is basically a grain. People usually substitute it for rice or make a salad out of it
Quinoa is a seed/grain - easy to prepare and , like chia, it's a trendy food now.
finish is usually dishwasher tabs. We have them all over in Florida. maybe it's regional?
I used to be a total coffee snob, but then I switched to instant espresso by Nescafe, life has become much simpler now, and the taste is always on point! and I can get wayyy more caffeine much faster!
You should always take a car or small truck / van to Costco. Also when you buy big things that might go to waist ask a good neighbor if they might want to have or buy half.
"What the heck is finish?"
I choked on air😂😂
Finish is a dishwasher detergent! So they have dishwasher detergent opposite the laundry detergent, that's fascinating!
T von Hartwig it's so interesting :p the mangos were next to the kiwi fruit and the meat is near the bakery!
Finish dishwasher detergent also sells most of stores in US. Target is also selling Finish detergent
John grabs a pack of sausages and says "size matters" ... I'm dead. X_X LOL
icarusprime - I caught that as well and died !😂😂😂😂
Yay Costco! Love the card picture lol! You have amazing restraint when it comes to food shopping John, I'd of bought loads more fruits, bread, the apple tart and flan and just got a cab home. Thanks for the insight and hope the food court wasn't to long a wait.
Finish dish detergent was originally called Electrasol in America
I know this is late but fruits which have a lot of water content also have more mold spores, so they tend to rot faster than the drier varieties. I have mold allergy so anything as juicy as a pear gives me a sore throat and flu like symptoms.

Kiri is actually a French brand by the way and you therefore find it across Europe.
+Erol Ataün no way!!! I had no idea. I thought it was Japanese since I'd only seen it here. Thanks for the background on it :)
Thanks for the Costco adventure it was fun.
Quinoa is a semi cereal much appreciated for its nutritional value and you can cook it like you do with rice only much faster and you can eat it with vegetables and sos..many different recipes with quinoa. You pointed out the Philadelphia cream cheese as I was eating a bagel with Philadelphia cream cheese. Perfectly synced.
Here in England we have Costco's as well around the London area. I go very often with my family. That looks very similar to the one here!
John, do you like berries in general? I think Chia seeds and Quinoa are usually used in smoothies or blends, to enhance satiation level.
Omg the bakery section.. Yes way! Let's eat it immediately after buying... I want to visit Japan someday
John, This girl & her Cat 🐱 live through your Adventures👍, even the Costco ones! 😊 Have a Blessed Time Bro
I've bought the Roasted Seaweed in Florida, but it's hard to use up before it expired and gets a bit flimsy.
WOW! They don't offer olive trees where we are at in Jersey! Thanks for sharing!
Yellow cherries also come from America. The package on the lighter ones literally say "Rainier" because they were developed in Washington state, so they're named for Mt Rainier.
55:10 Lol, what's the history with Toby?
Brazilian Açaí next to the Kiri... have u ever had it?
Its a kind of berry from the amazon forest.
I dropped soda too, finally! I replaced it with carbonated water and unsweetened iced tea.. I'm starting to feel much better since dropping it. :)
John are you going to do an Unboxing video on your Costco haul?
Marlboro666 hahaha! (No.) i might do another Costco video since I missed a few areas.
ONLY in JAPAN * GO It's a shame you even have to purchase coffee.Starbucks should send you lifetime supplies of coffee for your Starbucks video.☕
Marlboro666 dream come true! :) it's powering me through the long editing sessions.
Those are Rainier cherries..that why they are yellow-pinkish. First cultivated in Washington.
Would you be able to bring like a small suitcase on the train ? That might help carry more
Finish brand is also USA. They also have here in North America
Are shopping carts allowed in trains in Japan? If they are you can bring a shopping cart with you so you can buy whatever you want.
Its good morning or evening chia for Joghurt or salads mixing. Not to much?
Chia seeds are very healthy. It's used a lot in bread, muffins, etc in Australia
Vijay Visweswaran I looked into it and it seems like something I'll buy next time I go! I've not been up to date on food trends. The Coconut Oil trend is dying down now. The Acai juice trend ended in 2015. Maybe this is the 2017 trend!!
I was like 'Hey Finish! I know that one', and then John said 'What the heck is Finish?' and I lost it. X'D (Swedish)
You should get the Blueberry tree 🤗! Can't wait to see more Costco content!
Chia seeds are used in smoothies and salads. Chia makes liquid pudding like.
I this love how. Excited you are in all of your move great job my friend
isnt finish for a dishwasher?
We don't have Costco in Poland, but we have a similar outlet (you know, buying in large quantities for a better price, usually companies or big families are shopping there, and you can find everything, from food to furniture) and it's called Makro Cash and Carry, it is a German chain store :) And as for cherries we have both burgundy and lighter ones :D
Olga Kitlińska-Szopa you have both cherries? I'd never seen the light variety until I came here. Same as the mushrooms! So many here!! America only has one or two mushrooms that are mainstream.

Is organic food a thing in Japan? As it is in Europe & the US?
Next time, bring an insulated bag and some dry ice for the frozen goods. ;)
Nuttelex is an Australian manufacturer of margarine. First manufactured in 1932, its namesake brand is the oldest brand of margarine in Australia.
Arigatō! for the videos ジョンさん!
Finish is dishwashing detergent in the US too.
how big is your bag lol Do you do other countries besides Japan ?
In NYC's Costcos they carry roasted seaweed, jajangmyeon, Itoe green tea, and a lot of other products to cater to the customers that live here. 😀
I spend too much time @ Costco I find myself exploring every aisle, much like this stream 😂
Catching up with your live stream. So fun to see what a Costco in Japan looks like and yes, you should have taken a taxi back home! ;)
I love super markets and touring them. Everything looks delicious 😋
Mutlu Ertuğuş Mutlu!! Nice to hear from you. Yes, I love supermarkets when I travel. It's a great way to learn about a country's culture.
Doesn’t Costco deliver ? Nearly every superstore in UK delivers
Next : cooking with John, blueberries pancake 😋
Corry Zheng breakfast!! (With coffee:)
ONLY in JAPAN * GO I'm sure you're putting the coffee to use already. Editing?
ONLY in JAPAN * GO I Have A Costco Executive Membership And It's Valid In Japan
Before google translate I saw the cupie mayonnaise in the Asian store and we could not figure out what was in it. It was semi flesh colored and had a picture of a baby on the front.
Nightengale64 - sounds creepy !😂😂😂😂
Quinoa is a healthy grain. Chia seeds is high on protein and omega.
Wow I really enjoy the Japanese benito. Where is Costco located in Tokyo?
L D this is MAKUHARI in Chiba which is not too far away.
Quinoa tasts great on bread and buns. :) We have tons of diffrent kinds of them in germany. I can only recommend it
these other grains are really good mixed in with rice for the rice cooker.
And both are the same brands they sell in the states, 80% of this costco looks the same as it is in the US (even the Yoshida's). The 20 % that is different looks to be the same 20% that is different between two stores in the same city.

quinoa is a seed not a grain: Chenopodium :-))
Pink cherries is called rainier cherries. They are also from USA but a little bit expensive than the regular cherries which is purple or black.
I can't get over the fact that you sound exactly like Johnny Depp's version of Willy Wonka in the remake lol. You even get genuinely excited about everything like him haha, it's great. I really enjoy your channels by the way!
Tranporting produce appears to be your main problem not the size of the products. Don't they have uber or car to go in Japan?
Hey John, the caramel flan is actually very easy to make. Here in the Philippines we call it leche flan. Try looking for the recipe on Google. Try leche flan. 😀
The drivers license got me thinking. You still have your both your American drivers license and passport, right?
Do you therefore still have to pay taxes in the states / need an address there?
Did you find any toilet in that huge supermarket?
Huge fan. Discovered your channel 6 days ago and have been watching every evening. I need to figure out how to see your live channel.
Finish is dish detergent for the dishwasher. The best!
