I'm not sure if they do it anymore, but when I lived in Japan in 2007, if I went to the supermarket and bought any kind of cold or frozen food, they would put a bit of dry ice in a bag and put that in my groceries to keep the cold items cold until I got home. The thing that stood out immediately and is different from every single supermarket I've ever been in, everything is organized at all times and everything stays super clean and presentable. Both the workers and the customers respect having a clean and healthy environment to shop in, which is something unheard of in most places.
Western, New York here. Some things I noticed immediately, that store is SO much more clean, than stores around this area. Beautiful packaging, everything is organized so nicely. The seafood looks incredibly fresh. The prices are MUCH cheaper in that store, a small pack of nigiri sushi costs around $13-15 here, and it’s definitely not the freshest seafood, lol. A bottle of kikoman soy sauce here, is double the cost of the Japanese store. 😆

The bento and the deli sections stood out as my favorites. There was such a diverse range of options, and the prices were quite reasonable. Occasionally, arriving early was necessary to snag the truly delightful ones.
The prices are unrivaled here (in Japan), I've paid more for less and lower quality foods in Bangkok and Malaysia. It's mind blowing, I caught the discount guy placing the 50% of stickers on less fresh sushi and I paid like 8 dollars for 2 16 piece sushi trays (a $40ish dollar value in the u.s.).
I always thought everything in Japan was expensive until I came across your UA-cam channel long ago. As a graphic designer, just seeing how beautiful their items are present is also quite amusing. Hope you and your family are enjoying the holidays and have a happy new year !

Thank you for this video - it was a delight to watch! That supermarket is beyond beautiful - I would LOVE to shop in that supermarket - it looked so peaceful and visually appealing. Everything here in Australia is (to me) loud and overwhelming. No loud people there, everything neat and orderly... So pleasant!
Great tour of a Japanese supermarket - so clean and well-stocked - loved the Yakitori bento and dried squid - used to eat the squid as a kid growing up in Japan !!
We loved wandering the more local grocery stores and the department store ones. From 1/2 price drinks vs 711/Lawson to the gift packaging / pricing so a huge price variation. Had food from groceries several times in Nov when we were there
That's what I miss most about being in Japan: the variety of seafood you can easily get Edit: And also thinly sliced meat, oh how I wish that was easier to come by where I live!!!!
Paolo and the tea, thank you for coolest videos allowing us to feel Japan for a little bit. Happy Holidays: lots of health to everyone, happiness, success, and joy!
I had the opportunity to visit Tokyo and Kyoto in September, the quality and freshness of their food is amazing. Just say hello in Japanese with a smile and just politely point at what you want, no problem. The people there are very nice. ❤
My wife and I are trying Japanese food products to help bring smaller servings and a better balance between vegetables and meat or seafood. I have been curious about their supermarkets.
This is going to be me for next 4 weeks! I'm going to Tokyo next week and I will be going to Japanese supermarket every single day!!! Their bento and food section is just too great, I'm going for the discount at end of the day lol. Compared to Japanese supermarket, supermarkets in USA is lacking imo but I'm very biased~ ^^; Thanks for the perfect fitting and another great video~ Merry Xmas!!! 🥳
Thank you for making this! I'm moving to Japan in a matter of months and for some reason the prospect of buying products from the supermarket is really exciting to me. This video has helped me gain a better understanding of what to expect! I was most impressed with the natto aisle - the local Japanese supermarket here has a few different varieties, but not any of the cool flavors and variants you showed off. I'd love if you were to make a Part 2 - would you be willing to show off the ice cream and soft drink section? Thanks again!
@rickityrox814 Actually, you might not have to worry too much. It's much easier and faster to get your visa if you already have an employment offer. What I did was I applied for a school in Tokyo that was seeking international employees, which I applied for here in America. Once I got the job, they actually handled the visa paperwork for me, which is pretty common practice when Japanese companies hire Americans. Because the paperwork is being handled by a reliable company, the visa comes through way faster than it would otherwise. Hopefully that helps!
@@spiffyflinger9174 Thanks for the reply! I know that the cost of living can be high in Japan. Do you think that a teacher’s salary would be sufficient enough to still have an enjoyable experience in Japan?
@@rickityrox814 from all the other vlogs, the work schedule is what would dampen enjoyment but hey it's worth an experience at least to quench your interest!
@@rickityrox814Japan is NOT expensive. At all. I live in Tokyo, been living here for almost 9 years..and it's still much cheaper than my own hometown ( Zurich, Switzerland).
Great videos Paolo. It would be nice to learn about the type and quality of foreign non Japanese food and how the Japanese folk feel about other cultural delicacies.
In the US, our supermarkets is about the same. The only differences is the products on the shelves. Like your store is loaded with Japanese product. In the US, it will be US product. Again, sometime foreign products if it is popular enough.
I could happily live on the sushi counter alone. 🤣 and perhaps the sake and beer aisle. Do they sell those in the supermarket or are they only available in specialty stores?
To be honest, the food there seems rather inexpensive compared to the US. The fresh fish seemed a tad high, but the premade bento-box's, and other packaged food seemed to be half the cost of similar US premade meals at the supermarket. And, the meats seem really cheap compared to the US, again, half what we pay! If I was eating common Japanese food as you stated, I'd have a meat slicer for my kitchen prep, no need to buy meat pre-sliced. I may get one because I just realized I can slice potatoes, fruits, and other veggies with it as well. No need for a mandolin which can be dangerous as I nearly sliced my thumb off several months ago using one! 👍😎✌🗽🎄🎅🦃🤶🎁

Thank you very much Paolo for another really great video. I enjoy your content so much, as it gives me an insight into Japan, which is by now my favorite travel destination. I wish you, Maiko and Wolfy all the best and a wonderful Christmas season. Cheers from Switzerland, Nathalie
Great tour of a Japanese supermarket - so clean and well-stocked - loved the Yakitori bento and dried squid - used to eat the squid as a kid growing up in Japan !!
views go up so much just while I'm still watching
paolo ur amazing
We loved wandering the more local grocery stores and the department store ones. From 1/2 price drinks vs 711/Lawson to the gift packaging / pricing so a huge price variation. Had food from groceries several times in Nov when we were there
so beautifully packed, and these prices
You'll never see a cleaner more presentable grocery store.
I love how Japan has healthy prepared food for good value prices. It would be nice to see that commonly in North America
It's very c0mm0n. Y0u just can't expect that fr0m a Walmart. 0f the 12 0r s0 super markets near me, 4 are 0f this level.
That's what I miss most about being in Japan: the variety of seafood you can easily get
Edit: And also thinly sliced meat, oh how I wish that was easier to come by where I live!!!!
You are so right. In the US people want big hunks of meat and not a lot of supermarkets have onsite butchers who can cut or slice meat to order.
Paolo and the tea, thank you for coolest videos allowing us to feel Japan for a little bit. Happy Holidays: lots of health to everyone, happiness, success, and joy!
Wow it’s so affordable compared to USA grocery stores! The prices of the bentos and large bento boxes are amazing 🎉🎉🎉
That smile wont' lie. This man lovesssssss this place.
super clean and lotsa healty food
How beautifully clean, colourful and range of produce is shown, so inviting.
This is amazing. So clean and love the food selections!!
I had the opportunity to visit Tokyo and Kyoto in September, the quality and freshness of their food is amazing. Just say hello in Japanese with a smile and just politely point at what you want, no problem. The people there are very nice. ❤
This is literally heaven for me ngl
Thank you for sharing all the wonderful things from Japan!
Love every single video! Thanks for your hard work! 💖💖
Happy new year 🎉. The store is so clean and organized 😮 wish every store was like that.
My wife and I are trying Japanese food products to help bring smaller servings and a better balance between vegetables and meat or seafood. I have been curious about their supermarkets.
I wish british supermarkets sold as much healthy looking food as this. it looks amazing!
This is going to be me for next 4 weeks! I'm going to Tokyo next week and I will be going to Japanese supermarket every single day!!! Their bento and food section is just too great, I'm going for the discount at end of the day lol. Compared to Japanese supermarket, supermarkets in USA is lacking imo but I'm very biased~ ^^;
Thanks for the perfect fitting and another great video~ Merry Xmas!!! 🥳
This has got to be one of my favourite episodes in a long while! Thanks for all the hard work Paolo & Family!
You are moving to Japan? I was thinking about that too. I was worried about finding a job though!
As a westerner I am grateful for you showing this Paolo its very interesting and the variety of produce for use in Tokyo Thanks
Incredible! Much nicer than we have in 🇺🇸
I love your videos Paolo! I just went to a japanese supermarket called Seiwa Market and its awesome! got some stuff for college lunches!
Paolo cured my depression
I was waiting for the drinks section, especially for us foreigners, the variety & low prices so unbelievable
Great videos Paolo. It would be nice to learn about the type and quality of foreign non Japanese food and how the Japanese folk feel about other cultural delicacies.
So much fun exploring markets. Thanks for the great intro.
Paolo I just wanted to tell you merry Christmas and may you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Thank you so much for all your relaxing content. I’ve been watching for almost six years now. Again thank you!
No offense, but every video I saw you been smiling way too much, but I do enjoy your video, but maybe just tone down the smiling too much part
Beautiful store!!! Spotless. Thank you
Oh man I just wanna order everything from here it all looks so good
Everything is top quality and extremely well organized Japanese are just on another level.
Omg this video reminds me all the memories when I was living in Japan. I love to go before they closed because there are always good discount sales on those bentons and sushi platters. It’s a really good deal and the food quality as good as usual. I wish you are going to make another video about Japanese supermarket in the future.
I went to a Life Supermarket in Japan and I loved it! It was super clean and had a lot of yummy stuff. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful 😊
When I visited Japan (Atsugi area) I loved visiting the grocery stores. Tokyo Hands store (1996) was my favorite
Paolo, just subscribed your channel. Supermarket so many varieties of food and very clean.. btw have a happy nrw year to you and family.. For sure i will enjoy watching your videos.
