Lived my entire 51 years in Texas. SRV, ZZ Top, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt and Pantera are in my blood. This is hands down my favorite ZZ Top song.
Old ZZ Top is some of thee finest hardcore southern blues rock anyone can ever be blessed to listen to. They basically dominated every honky tonk from East Texas to the Cali coast, and would later explode worldwide. These guys are LEGENDARY! Rest In Power Dusty! He's jammin with all of the GOAT Rock stars in heaven.
First fig they could get out if Texas was a blues revue at The Overton Park Shell in Memphis TN. They came on at midnight to a full house. The rest is history with Ardent studios putting out the first and second
Love me some early ZZ Top! Their later stuff is cool and all, incorporating the 80s sounds, hot rod videos and all that. But there is nothing like the early ZZ Top blues & boogie! Don't sweat it, Chod. Not many people on the planet look as cool as ZZ Top when they play, LOL.
They are ZZ TOP, three guys that were made for each other.and Dusty wanted the band to keep going on.it was a selfless act.Dusty was about the band and the fans.now that's how you do it! Dusty, you have made me respect you even more.ROCK ON ZZ TOP!!!!
I basically keep a stank face expression on my face the whole time whenever I listen to this song. Awesome song to drive a little too fast to. That guitar solo makes my toes curl in a good way!
ZZ Top are so unique. not fully rock and not fully blues. i think thats why they get passed by. watch their Netflix doc "that little ol band from Texas" my fave blues song from them is Fool for your Stockings.
"I was born my papa's son when I hit the ground I was on the run." Man I dig that Texas Blues! Another band I'm fortunate enough to have seen live. Great little 3 piece with a BIG nasty sound.
As a young kid in the 1970s, I always thought they were a band of black guys until I saw them on an album I bought. You can tell they really loved the blues, from the music, and singing style. As for being popular, they were quite popular on Album Rock Radio, which was a major radio format around the country. They were huge. I remember their change into a more experimental sound in 1980. The radio station I listened to treated the change with respect.
Great song. I had this on vinyl back in 73 as well as any ZZTop stuff I could get my hands on. If you want to rabbit hole some different ZZT song then give a listen to Heartbreaker.
Great song great Texan band. Used to see Billy Gibbons ride his motorcycle down the main street in my neighborhood to meet and hang out with my friend’s step-dad on the next street-in Spring Branch in Houston. His mother lived just a few blocks away in another neighborhood. Anyway, talk bluesy? Check out “Waiting for the bus” “Jesus just left Chicago” off Tres Hombres 😎😉
Check out their live show 1980 Rockplast. Jimi Hendrix was once asked on the Dick Cavett show, who his favorite guitarists was & he said Billy Gibbons. And that was early on in Billy's career.
Texas Rock n Roll roots Right here, what an influence they have had. Check out Quaker City Nighthawks if you want to hear what I'm talking about. They are just one of the many many bands from Texas that when I heard them the tres hombres came to mind.
There IS a live version of this on UA-cam. It’s from 1980 or ‘81. Type “ZZ-Top Double Down tour Just Got Paid. But I’m not sure if Frank was using the exact same drum set or not. Billy would often use his old Telecaster or his “Pearly Gates” Les Paul for songs on the albums but then use something different live. Like maybe a new guitar he was trying out or whatever. So I dunno if Frank always stayed with the exact same drum set or not. In fact, in the video I referenced, Billy is using some kind of single pickup super strat shaped guitar on this song on stage.
This was great Chad, I agree they were / are great. You can tell they were hungry in their first work for sure. If you haven't yet heard it, Please listen to "Heard It On The X" also "Waitin For The Bus". Much love
love this song!! you should get back to reacting to either Cream to hear more Eric Clapton or The Doors! Sitting on Top of the World by Cream (studio) and The Soft Parade (studio) by the Doors are awesome!
For a couple of years in the ‘70s, after the Beatles broke up, Duane Allman died, Derek and the Dominos broke up, the Stones and Led Zeppelin were bloated,… about ‘73-‘75, ZZ TOP was maybe the best band in the world, and might still have been if those other bands had been at their best. Tight, creative trio that always knew where the song was going. Listen to “Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings” and “Heard It On The X”. Yes, they were that great! That’s why those ‘80s albums were disappointing, even though they sold a ton of them.
I think why you don't hear that much about their greatness is because their music can be divided into 2 eras. In the '70s where they concerned themselves with their music versus when MTV became all the rage and their musicality took a backseat to their "Look." Quite frankly they became a "tits & ass" video band. Of course, the latter period shot the band up into the stratosphere as far as worldwide fame and sales go but I wouldn't pay a plug Nickle for any of their products from this era. The most current new music that I've purchased for pleasure was last century about '94 or '95 at the end of the too-brief Grunge era. Keep on Rockin'...Stay safe...Be well...
You need to find ZZ Top:That Little Ol' Band from Texas it's a documentary of their 50 years together from 2018. I saw it on Reelz channel. RIP Dusty Hill
The video from Darryl's house was only Billy Gibbons or ZZ Top with his house band. Still good though. One of my all time favorites is Waitin' on the Bus/ Jesus just left Chicago. A great bluesy heavy ZZ song that has a great groove to it. Heavy bass drive. RIP Dusty Hill!
One of their best early 80's songs is "I Need You Tonight" (NOT to be confused with the Inxs song with the same name). It's mysterious, hypnotic, kind of sexy song, unlike any of their other songs. It's been said the song could bring out the "inner stripper" in every woman (except me, of course, lol!). Please check it out - you'll like it!
Growing up on the Gulf Coast of Texas, 19 in 1970, ZZ Top captured the true Texas feel. That Texas feel was no bueno in the ‘cool’ places of NYC or LA, which was OK. Wait til you hear the slow bluesy numbers, like I need you tonight!
ZZ has a bevy of albums to cruise thru. The ones in the 70's are my favorites. 80's are ok as well. Tres Hombres for ME is their masterpiece. This is a nice pick however. Blues Texas style.
ZZ Top - Just Got Paid (From "Double Down Live - 1980") ua-cam.com/video/6c7d8BYJy8I/v-deo.html clear shots and well lite of the drums, but never very long. Be prepared to pause.
Old ZZ Top is the best kind of funky, greasy, Texas rock n roll..
With a bunch of BBQ sauce slathered on there!
"Im Bad, Im Nationwide" to me, is one of their best songs. And it has a super thick bass line.
Lived my entire 51 years in Texas. SRV, ZZ Top, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt and Pantera are in my blood.
This is hands down my favorite ZZ Top song.
Texas Blues...everything is bigger, and better in Texas! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Been waitin on th bus/Jesus just left Chicago. CLASSIC

@@1bigrowdy man, I would have given anything to be present at that gig!
Hot, Blue and Righteous, Precious and Grace both from Tres Hombres...and Master of Sparks!
Billy's guitar sounds like a harmonica. Love his tones.
This is the BEST ZZ Top album. Every song a gem. Practically a best of collection. Keep going on this album.
My favorite of all zz records.
Hell yes!!! Classic Texas blues from "that little band from Texas". RIP Dusty.
Blue Jean Blues, a must.
Blue jean Blues is my favorite.
The older ZZ Top albums kick @$$.
Best three man band.
Rush

This is ZZ's second. The first six are absolute rockers.
ZZ Top is one of the best bands of alk time. Their older songs are very bluesy. Love it
“That Little Ol Band from Texas”. Every time and there were “a few”. …… I got to see them - they never disappointed. Those boys have some sass.😎
ZZ TOP Rocks! R.I.P. Dusty🙏
RIP Dusty. You know we are missing you here in Texas. 💔
The best little band in Texas!
I basically keep a stank face expression on my face the whole time whenever I listen to this song. Awesome song to drive a little too fast to. That guitar solo makes my toes curl in a good way!
These guys have been rocking for over 50 years and still are unfortunately Dusty Hill their bass player just passed RIP Dusty
Frank Beard is so consistent that he is like a human drum machine. Nothing flashy, just getting it done.
ZZ Top are so unique. not fully rock and not fully blues. i think thats why they get passed by. watch their Netflix doc "that little ol band from Texas" my fave blues song from them is Fool for your Stockings.

Best ZZ Top album ever!
One of my favorites!
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck "Goin Down" live, mind blowing !!!
Love ZZ...
When original music flows from your heart, I'm sure you play with ease as they do....
Great choice! Love early ZZ Top. Serious blues influenced rock.
Classic ZZ Top.
Saw them live in 1982. Very tight band, and of course very unique.
They've been around forever!
Before they became a pop band. Their best.
Great song. I had this on vinyl back in 73 as well as any ZZTop stuff I could get my hands on. If you want to rabbit hole some different ZZT song then give a listen to Heartbreaker.
Ahh,the good old days of going to the department store and flipping through the albums.
Great song great Texan band. Used to see Billy Gibbons ride his motorcycle down the main street in my neighborhood to meet and hang out with my friend’s step-dad on the next street-in Spring Branch in Houston. ZZ top is a beast.
Frank Beard is by far not the flashiest drummer out there, but he is the most consistent. Like a drum machine before they existed.
Other ZZ songs to react
"cheap sunglasses"
"manic mechanic"
"Im bad im nationwide"
ZZ Top is a very underrated band, especially for a 3 piece band.
Balinese, Francine, and Mexican Blackbird couple good ones
A lot of sweet little ghost notes in there
Blue Jean Blues is a good early ZZ Top song.
This is a remix from when they did a boxed set of their early 70s albums. The original mix didn't have all the reverb, especially on the drums.
Got to do "Fool For Your Stockings" by ZZ. Very bluesy.
Awesome song! 👌
ABSOLUTELY!!! Billy Gibbons makes the guitar sexier than a sax!!!
That main guitar riff has always been one of the reliable riffs that my brain always wants to play first when I pick up a guitar. It’s iconic.

The reason people don’t talk about them is because they have proven how good they are so there is nothing left to say.
Chod, nobody is as cool as ZZ Top.
Check out ZZ Top live at Rockpalast 1980. This song is performed in that concert.
Gibbons is one of top 100 guitarists of all time. 👍 They are unique and create the sound of a much larger group of musicians. Tks Chod 💕
Idk which documentary I heard it but Jimi Hendrix said Billy Gibbons was the best guitarist 😮
@@claudiapatterson3776 😌 quite a compliment.

The live versions are on their two DVD's double Down Live and Live From Texas. That's all I know. I have them both and they are great.
Early ZZ Top, Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell.
Give it a listen
Have you lost your way…….YES please
When asked what it felt like to be the worlds greatest guitarist, Jimi Hendrix replied to the reporter: "I don't know, you better ask Billy Gibbons."
Check out Brown Sugar 1971! That’s some funky guitar on that one!!

Gun Lover by them is a great rocker.

great tune nobody like ZZ Top, Backdoor Love Affair is a kick ass tune too!!

I would love to see a reaction to “Thug”. It’s hard to pick my favorite ZZ Top song but it is up there.

ZZ's firzt 3 records are the best..
Texas gold
Check out "Beer Drinkers Hell Raisers" by these guys.
Frank Beard=possibly the hardest working drummer ever
When he was younger. He just mails it in now. No passion left in his drumming.
Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Live at Daryl's House video you watched had only Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. Frank Beard and Dusty Hill were not present.
ZZ has a bevy of albums to cruise thru. The ones in the 70's are my favorites. 80's are ok as well. Tres Hombres for ME is their masterpiece. This is a nice pick however. Blues Texas style.
Badfinger Live!
Next, "GOTSA get Paid".
Grittiest nastiest guitar sound I’ve heard in a long time…🤙🏻

Johnny Kemp's JUST GOT PAID is classic check it out. Thanks
Like others already said - older ZZ is more bluesy better. Try Blue Jean Blues or Waiting for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago(it's a duo set)
Check out Blue Jean Blues!🔥🔥🔥
