These guys found a whole new audience and level of popularity when they hit pay dirt with Gimme all your Lovin' and subsequent hits but the early stuff is where the hard-core fans live. Long live Dusty Hill.
Old ZZ Top is the best... before they POPPED OUT. Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers, Heard it on the X, & I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide. All great old ZZ! YOU TWO ARE DOING AWESOME.........
Their best album, by far. Said black sheep, black sheep, got some wool? Yessir, I do man, my bag is full! A lyrical tribute to the black roots of at least their earliest and best music. A pocket full of change is what the working man has left, on the Sunday after payday.
RIP Dusty Hill..This one brings me back.. I had a 68' GTO at the time and I put a cassette deck in the glove box and would jam this track every Friday!!My wife at the time thought I was crazy..Hammer down!!!! shout out from the old metal head from Detroit..
I remember picking this album up after hearing Tres Hombres album in 1973. I was instantly hooked. I was a wide eyed 15 year old. Boy,that 50 years went by quick!
Mine too! only in ‘80 with them the headliner for six bands including Pat Travers and Rossington Collins all for $9.50 a ticket in what was then the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando such good times in my wasted youth
@@parrothead6570 so cool!! I saw Pat Travers Band, Jefferson Starship (without Grace Slick tho) and Skynyrd at the Peavey Shelter Fest in Meridian, MS in the early 90's. Great concert!
Frank’s drumming has always been one of my favorites. Another good banger to start the day. ZZ Top is I I use to rock. No other band ever had this sound. Often imitated, never equalled. ✌️
Hell YES, That 'lil 'ol band from Texas! Damn right they speak for the common man, they speak for the streets! If you like that style you've got to try Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers or Mexican Blackbird even better yet! Thank you for another great reaction guys!
The World Wide Texas tour in 76-77 supported the 75 Fandago album. It included a 63-by-48 foot (19-by-15 m) stage that was tilted at a four-degree angle, which resembled the shape of Texas and weighed 35 tons (70,000 lbs), costing a reported US$100,000. The presentation also included live animals such as a longhorn steer, black buffalo, two vultures, and two rattlesnakes, and plants such as yucca, agave, and cacti.
Yep Dan, caught that tour in the old Tulane Stadium, before it was torn down and replaced with the New Orleans Superdome. I was in The Wharehouse, the night Top recorded what became the A Side of Fandango. The WW Texas Tour was in support of Tejas, if memory serves, as well as Fandango. The lineup that day was The J. Geils Band followed by Lynyrd Skynyrd who was a no show. (Drummer broke his arm) The audience was offered a full refund at the show, but once you saw how massive this stage was, I don’t think anyone left. I had always heard they lost or at best made only a small amount of money. It was a great show as both bands killed it. I don’t believe the ticket was more than 20. bucks. Good times.
"Talkin' for the streets" - that's the first time I've heard that, and it is SO fitting for this band. You're young, you're hungry, you're living hand to mouth - and when you hear this band, you feel like they've been there, and they haven't forgotten. Your review is spot on!
I saw ZZ Top in a small venue with 100 people. They play 2 1/2 hours of Texas Blues. That was just as their first album was released. That was way back in the day, but you knew they would be great. Billy Gibions used a Mexican Coin as a pick. The show was hot as a bar-b-que coal - you could feel the heat.
Love old school ZZ, but my fav ZZ song is "I Gotsta Get Paid" off La Futura Album 2012..which is actually a rework of a hip hop song "25 Lighters"...just love the guitar distortion... hopefully you give it a listen!❤️
My favorite ZZ Top album is Deguello. Check out "Thank You", "Fool for Your Stockings", "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide", "Manic Mechanic", "Cheap Sunglasses"and anything else on that disc. Smoking!!! Shit, you got my ZZ Jones going, I'm gonna listen to the entire thing right now.
In 71 they played at the Senior prom of a neighboring SE Texas high school. They played in our little town so much in their early days we have the ZZ Top logo proudly painted on our water tower
Ned from Spain saying thank you for reacting to this because it is one of their most righteously banging ! On top of that this is the original mix with the late great Dusty Hill on burning bass and growlin vocal.
Hey guys, there are some nice blues/rock songs on this album, but the real deal on the record is a blues track called, “Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell.” Thanks for all the Classic Era music you’ve been reacting too. Great stuff.
I have been fortunate to have seen “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” Live 4 times. I recorded the last show (Full HD) before Dusty passed away. Always an awesome show. You must see many other tunes from them including “Rough Boy” (official video)…. “Same three guys, same three cords, for five decades” - Billy Gibbons at last show.
Hell of a great way to start my work day - again 😀. Great choice guys, this is ZZ Top at their gritty best. Rocking out with you on a cold-ass morning in Ontario - much love 🤘
Man, you brothers be down for me. I used to listen to this as I lived this. Back in 70s working construction or sawmills, cash check at liquor store, and head for the honkytonks. This is one of favorites by ZZ.
This is Terry VonCannon. One really cool fact is Jimi Hendrix was once asked who his favorite guitar player was and he said Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. He and Billy eventually got together and he showed Jimi a few slide tricks.
The blues was born through many areas from the Delta to Chicago. For example the Memphis Blues, etc. So that's the reason for the geographical reference.
A ZZ Top concert was parent's first date. Lost my dad last year. Dusty also gone now. Hearing them is bittersweet now. I was fortunate enough to see them live in about 2007. Absolutely incredible. Gibbons plays with a 50 cent piece. Hendrix picked him up when he was with a previous group The Moving Sidewalks and opened for his 69 American tour. Jimi called him his favorite new guitarist. Easy to see why. Legendary.
Another great reaction vid by you guys. i saw these guys at least four times but maybe more depending on the concerts i was too messed up to remember. The early Top was THE best and this tune was a banger for road trip music.
One of the key components of their structure is Frank Beards drumming. In this case he using his " work horse " beat during the chorus like " If you believe like working hard all day..etc" which was a kind of paradiddle groove but with a minor variation. Frank used it from the first album to now in one way or other.

I’ve seen them several times. The first time was at the beginning of Eliminator tour and it was me (19), my friends, and 15,000 30-35 year old bikers…Second time was at the end of the Eliminator tour and it was all kids…both concerts rocked, but that first one had a lot of the old bluesy stuff and was way better….
So, DJ DMD recorded his hit "25 lighters" with Lil Keke and Fat Pat at ZZ Top's studio, it became a Houston classic, 20 years later ZZ Top covered the song calling it "I Gotsta get Paid".

The night before they played where I was stationed, they played in another town where half the crowd was GI's. The other half was Germans. The original mixes and the 2000s remasters showcase his skills and sound. The older Six Pack CD remasters really did him a disservice.
Best ZZ Top tune IMO
Their music is like a hot Rod. The changes in tempo are like gear shifting, then accelerating into those badass riffs. Speeding tickets here we come!
This has been my favorite ZZ Top song since I first heard it! Thanks for the reaction.👍
Rio Grande Mud,my favorite lp as well,Their 2nd album

Billy did overdub some guitar parts on this song, but they are the definition of a Blues Power Trio. Dusty Hill's bass drives all their songs.
