    I can't believe you're doing this unit. Just last night I saw a demo of this from TSG - this guy visited the Work Sharp Tools business and videoed his tour and guide for sharpening. It was great. Here's his video on this unit that I watched last night: ua-cam.com/video/QzFWRCQr3jc/v-deo.html I really like this unit and am going to get one. Looks like they're only available through the company or at Cabela's.

    I just bought this devise and have not sharpen any knives. 1)-Why it is not recommended to use water to sharpen. 2)- can I use soap and water to clean the stones after each sharpening. I’m fairly new in sharpening the reason I ask. Thanks in advance for your response

    when sharpening on stones all I ever seen is the way above. my flat mate who works with leather sharpened blade backwards on a stone then finished it off on a strop. the blade was really sharp. is there a big difference between the two ways of sharpening the blade for using them as a cutting tool for camping?

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  9 років тому

      Joe Brooklyn i suppose it could work that way for some knives. typically you want to remove steel from the edge and going against the stone accomplishes this. a strop however you are basically super honing the edge and don't want to cut into your leather so you go backwards.

I will definitely be looking for more of your videos. I just ordered the Workshop GSS and upgrade and have saved your video to help me use it. Your review was the only one I saw that: 1- demonstrated in simple steps how to use the sharpening system, 2- had excellent camera angles and focus, and 3- was all about the product, rather than yourself. I applaud you, and will be watching this review as I learn from you how to use my knew knife sharpening system.

    I like your reviews very much!Truth is that diamond plates,are made for sharpening ceramic knives.That's why it shows a lot of wear early , while sharpening common steel knives.After years of research and experimentation,I reached the conclusion that the PERFECT angle,for general use or outdoor use knives etc,is 21 degrees per side. My complaint with this and the work sharp field sharpener,is that the sharpening surfaces are small and short,especially the ceramic.It's ok for small knives,such us edc folders etc (maybe it can handle some medium size) but not bigger knives.Very good systems for beginners though!

      Leaderilaos Chaqal Agreed, tough to use for a large knife. Packs a lot of punch though for a system of this size and considering the price of even one good water stone it is a pretty good deal. Does work better than expected as well.

    I really don't see this as any kind of reliable guided system at all :-/ It still relies on you being able to manually keep the right angle across the stone. If you can do that, why bother? I'd buy a whet stone and "guide it" myself.
