Its because turkey wanted to join the United nations, and the only way they could do that was to declare war on Germany. Intern there was a wave of declarations of war across the world from Janurary 1945 - March 1945. And the reason they didn't join the War was because they were going through reforms and redemption because of their independence war so they remained neutral

The oil was already in British hands really, but it was vital that Iran did not change it's allegiance and seize it fr itself plus it was a route to supply the USSR. In actual truth the Iranians had no intention on betraying the British and were really trying to keep neutral and modernize their country (much like Turkey) as a whole including trying to build their own military but it was two late and nothing much could stand a joint Russian and British invasion . +The Emperor Yes, Finland. They were in the war for a looong time. They first joined when the USSR demanded land, but they refused, sparking of the Winter War. Although the Soviets won and got the lands they wanted, Finland killed way more soldiers than the USSR did and showed how unorganised the Soviets were. When Germany attacked the Soviets, Finland, not on Axis side, also attacked and regained the land the USSR took from them. The USSR, trying to concentrate on Germany, decided to sign an armistice and the Finnish, realising that carrying on fighting would be bad, agreed. However, there were already Germans in Finland. Although Finland wasn't part of the Axis, Germany saw them as an Ally and were NOT happy with them making peace with the Soviet Union. This started the Lapland War, where Finland would defeat the German troops in Finland and finally, be left alone.
+Wings of Darkness Not totally correct, the Lapland War was a demand of the Soviet Union. Germans had to leave the country in a couple of months (which was impossible, everyone knew that), so Stalin demanded that Finns start the war against Germans or else they will come and "help";. Finns and Germans even agreed on a "fake war" because neither side wanted that war and that lasted for a couple of weeks until Finns were forced to attack because the USSR was suspicious. Oh, and Finland never joined the Allies, that part is incorrect in the video, and wasn't "left alone", either.

Francesco Marafini Hi, I'm french and I want to correct some mistakes :) As everybody know, France and UK lost the battle of France in 1940, and France was invaded by Germany and Italy (Corsica, Nice...). Only the French who joined the Free French Forces fought the Axis after the worst defeat of France, but in a first time, they didn't have anything. Indeed, they didn't have enough weapons and enough officers, and that will be a problem. Only a part of "France" joined them in 1940, the french colonies of central Africa (you can see this on the map in September 1940, and they invaded Gabon wich stayed with Vichy). After, they took control of Syria and Lebannon with English troops, but they must wait until December 1942 that American came in Morroco and that Northern Africa sided with the Free French Forces. Obviously, the French army of 1943 was essentially compound of colonial troops as you said. So in 1943, the new French army came with Allies in Italy and did a great work (militarily I mean). The real problem for italian people begin in the winter 1943/1944 : there was a lot of snow (so troops couldn't move), and still not enough officer to control all the soldiers. And this is why the were rapes, looting and murders : the officers couldn't control everybody, and couldn't move to punish the soldiers, there will be the same problem in Germany in 1945 (But I must admit officers have not done much after the winter...). So officers never ordered to rape and kill. Anyway France dealt with colonial troops like shit : after the war they were send to their country without any compensation, and guys who were asking for money were killed like in Sétif riots in 1945. There is a movie which talk about these colonial troops : it's called "Indigènes".

It was a mostly symbolic act, they didn’t want to risk declaring war earlier and joining the Allies and getting possibly bodied by the Axis and the Soviets and later on they didn’t want to risk their men on a war that had already been won, so they stay neutral for the entire war.

Both of my grandfathers served in the South Pacific. One was at Iwo Jima and midway. The other was an MP for MacArthur. He had to stand sentry guard to Hirohito in the imperial palace post WWII. Now two generations later I work with the JDA at my Air Force site. We are the best of friends and I really like japanese culture. It's nice to know that generations later we can get along.

Heck, the war would've been lost even if the Norwegian saboteurs didn't stop the Germans from evacuating Norway with over 100.000 fresh troops to defend themselves. And this is just 1 of countless factors, across many nations, that ensured a victory. So many small details that were overlooked. Yes, we'd have lost without the Americans. But without the sabotage in Norway, for instance, the Americans and Russians would also have lost in a battle of attrition. And again, across Europe many people sabotaged the Nazis at every possible chance they had. Majority of which were imperative for success. So shush. Without cooperation, we'd all have lost. No "one" particular nation is to thank for the victory of WW2. Give thanks to the saboteurs and armies all over the world. No "one" army could have solely defeated the opposing force.

+MonarchTherapsids Inostran No. The Chinese United Front was formed in 1937, and Japan barely conquered any territory from then to 1941 when the US entered the war. The minor fights with the Soviets would not even affect the attack on China, only around 100,000 troops fought a couple weeks.
Actually, it's not a matter of can or cannot. It's a matter of should or should not. If you look up the world map population, the vast majority of Chinese living in China are in the north-west, where the imperial japan controlled. It's also the richest part of china. Other part of China are just rural and desserts. They have nothing to fuel the Japanese war machine. So they head to south east asia instead.

The Pacific War The Germans and Italians and Europeans were having some of their happiness and fun though honestly there must be 2 more spaces, Japan and Siam(Thailand)! For the beginning, while Britain was sitting on its island with absolute determination of challenging Hitlers power! Now that Europe except for Switzerland and Sweden and the USSRs parts and UK were under Axis control, Japan saw an opportunity to take the colonies in the Pacific as the allies were falling and had to defend their nations at no. 1 priority! Though not just only that reason was why the Japanese wanted to join the war with the Axis officially, the Second Sino-Japanese War was coming to a standstill and Japan was getting annoyed that it couldn’t continue the advance in China so they thought getting those juicy resources would do the trick and use them to pummel through the Chinese defences and countryside and jungle! However, the resources Japan was looking at was in South East Asia, and South East Asia was heavily colonised by European powers including the US having Philippines as their puppet colony and also the British controlled the majority of South East Asia, Japan at first though asked Vichy France for Indochina to gain some resources and Vichy France had to give it due to Germany’s command! Now Japan knew that if he attacked British Malaysia and British Borneo then the Americans would intervene and get in the way and use their navy but the Japanese navy knew it couldn’t go up to the American navy as naval combat for the Japanese would be disastrous! Japanese generals started manipulating Hirohito’s power and planned an attack to destroy the American Pacific fleet so the Japanese could quickly sweep through South East Asia! So on December 7th 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbour! The American Pacific fleet was badly damaged so now the next day the campaign on the Philippines began and they later forced Siam to join them to take Malaysia and after Philippines fell, later British Borneo and advanced in Burma and took the Dutch East Indies and then took North Papua New Guinea, lots of islands and were now threatening Northern Australia and the borders of the rich dominion of British India or British Raj! With this accomplished, the German Reich and European Axis looked overwhelming eastward at Japans rapid expansion and their new ally! Now WW2 was official! As the Italians battled in Africa against the British and the Germans failed to bomb Britain into surrender and now turning eyes on the USSR in a similar surprise invasion but on direct land! The Soviets and Japanese decided to sign a non-aggression pact due to the Japanese under pressure and Soviets under pressure! The Reich was not expecting this but however advanced slowly but surely into the Soviet Union! Meanwhile, the Japanese now with the resources managed to advance a bit and encircle parts of China and use the occupied territory to make camps of forced labour and massacre many Chinese as mass genocide! The Pacific campaign was going smoothly as more bombings in Darwin continued and the Japanese advancing in the Solomon Islands a bit more including a attack in India that failed due to a counterattack by British and Indian forces near the area that is now Bangladesh!
Japan was occupied the United States and the United Kingdom and France and the Netherlands colonial. And Philippines became independent from the United States in 1946. India became independent from Britain in 1947. Myanmar became independent from Britain in 1948. Sri Lanka became independent from Britain in 1948. Indonesia became independent from the Netherlands in 1949. Laos became independent from France in 1949. Cambodia became independent from France in 1953. Vietnam became independent from France in 1954. Malaysia became independent from Britain in 1957.
If you’re going to include the Pacific theater, you should have started in 1937 when Japan began their conquests. Many historians consider that the start of Ww2 anyway.

There were barely any Italians or even axis soldiers in Vichy French colonies really, and as soon as the commonwealth tanks got there the colony governments just started working with the allies.
No doubt, as an American I will personally say that the USSR played a bigger role than we did. In fact, our foreign policy was a lot different back then, as compared to now. But, to think what would have happened had Hitler had a bit of common sense and decided no to attack the soviets? There's a reason Germany told Japan not to attack the United States. He would have taken Britain, either attacked the USSR (or allied with them), and then throw his full force at invading Canada and the United States, and frankly I'm not sure if we would have been able to stop it. Unless there were maybe atomic bombs at our disposal. Depends on the time of events.

No, they never would have dreamed of attacking North America. An invasion of the US would have been more difficult than an invasion of Russia. The US is on the other side of the planet and unlike the Russians we weren't poor and starving, we would have millions and millions of men fighting immediately if the US was invaded. For example, they focused mostly on Battleships while the US saw the light in Carriers. I do not actually know if it was intentional to not blow the repair stations and oil depots or just poorly executed.
Germany didn't have enough natural ressources to keep the war machine running fast enough, that is part of the reason why he turned east, he conquered for instance the oil feels in the Kaukasus. Another reason was that Hitler believed the German population had to grow immensly and would therefore need "Lebensraum" (living space).

Don't forget Charles de Gaulle and Free France who had important moments in Africa, and even in some other places. Free France was for a while the only support that Britain had, if you don't include Canada and Australia who were forced to join Britain.
Yes I do know that but Charles de Gaulle and Free French land was only in a small area of Africa at first and later in Syria and more of Africa and then Mainland France was liberated however from the Fall of France in Summer 1940 to June 22nd 1941, Britain was technically on its own with its empire and its dominions and just a tiny area of land in the French colonies that resisted the Axis and Hitler and helped Britain minorly! Only when the Soviets were involved by Barbarossa then Britain started gaining real support and help!

The oil was already in British hands really, but it was vital that Iran did not change it's allegiance and seize it fr itself plus it was a route to supply the USSR. In actual truth the Iranians had no intention on betraying the British and were really trying to keep neutral and modernize their country (much like Turkey) as a whole including trying to build their own military but it was two late and nothing much could stand a joint Russian and British invasion . I think it sad Iran is vilified so much in the west they have tried to build themselves up on more than one occasion only to be knocked down, by foreign interference USA i'm looking a you. If the Us and other countries had left Iran alone it would not a theocracy but probably a place where that could help stabilize the middle east! Until maybe recently due to the strong blockades you could not even legally buy their currency! and its the people that suffer and become more resentful to the west.I personally would love to see places in Iran and actually have my own personal reasons that could lead me going there. +The Emperor Yes, Finland. They were in the war for a looong time. They first joined when the USSR demanded land, but they refused, sparking of the Winter War. Although the Soviets won and got the lands they wanted, Finland killed way more soldiers than the USSR did and showed how unorganised the Soviets were. When Germany attacked the Soviets, Finland, not on Axis side, also attacked and regained the land the USSR took from them. The USSR, trying to concentrate on Germany, decided to sign an armistice and the Finnish, realising that carrying on fighting would be bad, agreed. However, there were already Germans in Finland. Although Finland wasn't part of the Axis, Germany saw them as an Ally and were NOT happy with them making peace with the Soviet Union. This started the Lapland War, where Finland would defeat the German troops in Finland and finally, be left alone.

Finns and Germans even agreed on a "fake war" because neither side wanted that war and that lasted for a couple of weeks until Finns were forced to attack because the USSR was suspicious. Francesco Marafini Hi, I'm french and I want to correct some mistakes :)
As everybody know, France and UK lost the battle of France in 1940, and France was invaded by Germany and Italy (Corsica, Nice...). Only the French who joined the Free French Forces fought the Axis after the worst defeat of France, but in a first time, they didn't have anything. Indeed, they didn't have enough weapons and enough officers, and that will be a problem. Only a part of "France" joined them in 1940, the french colonies of central Africa (you can see this on the map in September 1940, and they invaded Gabon wich stayed with Vichy). After, they took control of Syria and Lebannon with English troops, but they must wait until December 1942 that American came in Morroco and that Northern Africa sided with the Free French Forces.
Obviously, the French army of 1943 was essentially compound of colonial troops as you said.
So in 1943, the new French army came with Allies in Italy and did a great work (militarily I mean). The real problem for italian people begin in the winter 1943/1944 : there was a lot of snow (so troops couldn't move), and still not enough officer to control all the soldiers. And this is why the were rapes, looting and murders : the officers couldn't control everybody, and couldn't move to punish the soldiers, there will be the same problem in Germany in 1945 (But I must admit officers have not done much after the winter...). So officers never ordered to rape and kill.
Anyway France dealt with colonial troops like shit : after the war they were send to their country without any compensation, and guys who were asking for money were killed like in Sétif riots in 1945. There is a movie which talk about these colonial troops : it's called "Indigènes".

It was a mostly symbolic act, they didn’t want to risk declaring war earlier and joining the Allies and getting possibly bodied by the Axis and the Soviets and later on they didn’t want to risk their men on a war that had already been won, so they stay neutral for the entire war.

Both of my grandfathers served in the South Pacific. One was at Iwo Jima and midway. The other was an MP for MacArthur. He had to stand sentry guard to Hirohito in the imperial palace post WWII. Now two generations later I work with the JDA at my Air Force site. We are the best of friends and I really like japanese culture. It's nice to know that generations later we can get along.

And this is just 1 of countless factors, across many nations, that ensured a victory. So many small details that were overlooked. Yes, we'd have lost without the Americans. But without the sabotage in Norway, for instance, the Americans and Russians would also have lost in a battle of attrition. And again, across Europe many people sabotaged the Nazis at every possible chance they had. Majority of which were imperative for success.
So shush. Without cooperation, we'd all have lost. No "one" particular nation is to thank for the victory of WW2. Give thanks to the saboteurs and armies all over the world. No "one" army could have solely defeated the opposing force.

If you look up the world map population, the vast majority of Chinese living in China are in the north-west, where the imperial japan controlled. It's also the richest part of china. The Pacific War
The Germans and Italians and Europeans were having some of their happiness and fun though honestly there must be 2 more spaces, Japan and Siam(Thailand)! For the beginning, while Britain was sitting on its island with absolute determination of challenging Hitlers power! Now that Europe except for Switzerland and Sweden and the USSRs parts and UK were under Axis control, Japan saw an opportunity to take the colonies in the Pacific as the allies were falling and had to defend their nations at no. 1 priority! Though not just only that reason was why the Japanese wanted to join the war with the Axis officially, the Second Sino-Japanese War was coming to a standstill and Japan was getting annoyed that it couldn’t continue the advance in China so they thought getting those juicy resources would do the trick and use them to pummel through the Chinese defences and countryside and jungle! However, the resources Japan was looking at was in South East Asia, and South East Asia was heavily colonised by European powers including the US having Philippines as their puppet colony and also the British controlled the majority of South East Asia, Japan at first though asked Vichy France for Indochina to gain some resources and Vichy France had to give it due to Germany’s command! Now Japan knew that if he attacked British Malaysia and British Borneo then the Americans would intervene and get in the way and use their navy but the Japanese navy knew it couldn’t go up to the American navy as naval combat for the Japanese would be disastrous! Japanese generals started manipulating Hirohito’s power and planned an attack to destroy the American Pacific fleet so the Japanese could quickly sweep through South East Asia! So on December 7th 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbour! The American Pacific fleet was badly damaged so now the next day the campaign on the Philippines began and they later forced Siam to join them to take Malaysia and after Philippines fell, later British Borneo and advanced in Burma and took the Dutch East Indies and then took North Papua New Guinea, lots of islands and were now threatening Northern Australia and the borders of the rich dominion of British India or British Raj! With this accomplished, the German Reich and European Axis looked overwhelming eastward at Japans rapid expansion and their new ally! Now WW2 was official! As the Italians battled in Africa against the British and the Germans failed to bomb Britain into surrender and now turning eyes on the USSR in a similar surprise invasion but on direct land! The Soviets and Japanese decided to sign a non-aggression pact due to the Japanese under pressure and Soviets under pressure! The Reich was not expecting this but however advanced slowly but surely into the Soviet Union! Meanwhile, the Japanese now with the resources managed to advance a bit and encircle parts of China and use the occupied territory to make camps of forced labour and massacre many Chinese as mass genocide! The Pacific campaign was going smoothly as more bombings in Darwin continued and the Japanese advancing in the Solomon Islands a bit more including a attack in India that failed due to a counterattack by British and Indian forces near the area that is now Bangladesh!

Because most of the Axis soldiers in Africa were Italians and they weren't motivated to fight so they mostly surrendered or performed poorly.
There were barely any Italians or even axis soldiers in Vichy French colonies really, and as soon as the commonwealth tanks got there the colony governments just started working with the allies.

No doubt, as an American I will personally say that the USSR played a bigger role than we did. In fact, our foreign policy was a lot different back then, as compared to now. But, to think what would have happened had Hitler had a bit of common sense and decided no to attack the soviets? There's a reason Germany told Japan not to attack the United States. He would have taken Britain, either attacked the USSR (or allied with them), and then throw his full force at invading Canada and the United States, and frankly I'm not sure if we would have been able to stop it. Unless there were maybe atomic bombs at our disposal. Depends on the time of events.

No, they never would have dreamed of attacking North America. An invasion of the US would have been more difficult than an invasion of Russia. The US is on the other side of the planet and unlike the Russians we weren't poor and starving, we would have millions and millions of men fighting immediately if the US was invaded. The Germans couldn't have gotten a single state.
philipje1 That really goes to show that the Japanese really didn't have a grasp of the most important things in the war. For example, they focused mostly on Battleships while the US saw the light in Carriers. I do not actually know if it was intentional to not blow the repair stations and oil depots or just poorly executed.
Germany didn't have enough natural ressources to keep the war machine running fast enough, that is part of the reason why he turned east, he conquered for instance the oil feels in the Kaukasus. Another reason was that Hitler believed the German population had to grow immensly and would therefore need "Lebensraum" (living space).

Don't forget Charles de Gaulle and Free France who had important moments in Africa, and even in some other places. Free France was for a while the only support that Britain had, if you don't include Canada and Australia who were forced to join Britain.
Yes I do know that but Charles de Gaulle and Free French land was only in a small area of Africa at first and later in Syria and more of Africa and then Mainland France was liberated however from the Fall of France in Summer 1940 to June 22nd 1941, Britain was technically on its own with its empire and its dominions and just a tiny area of land in the French colonies that resisted the Axis and Hitler and helped Britain minorly! Only when the Soviets were involved by Barbarossa then Britain started gaining real support and help!
@@englishandturkce4513 Free France was all the French colonies on Africa since all French Colonies joined Free France... Except for Gabon who had to be taken by force... And French Empire was not "a tiny area of land"... Not to mention the role of Free France during the battle of bir hakeim, or the commando kieffer during the d-day.
