Denmark only consisted of 2 infantry divisions (in Zealand and Jutland), around 30 naval vessels (including submarines), about 100 aircrafts, and NO operational Tanks, with a total of less than 14,000 men (8000 were drafted during the last 2 months fearing Germany), totally unprepared for war, so no much to blame
Leader IM ϟϟ You are speaking about individual things here, while I just tried to point out the greater concepts. As you rightfully said, the main fighting force of Germany was positioned to break through the Ardennes, while they used more immobile forces to bait the Allies into the BeNeLux countries by faking a second attempt of the Schlieffenplan and to secure the Maginot line. That is the plain strategic aspect though. What I was referring to with the math thing: Imagine you have two forces facing each other off. Both consist of 1000 soldiers and each salve that one force fires roughly deals damage equal to 10% of their own strength. (So a force with 1000 soldiers firing for the first time will kill 100 opposing soldiers. - A force with 500 soldiers firing will get rid of 50 opposing soldiers.) In this scenario, given that both forces fire simultaneously and so on, both forces will just eradicate each other. (This is roughly what happened during WW1 and what inspired Guderian when he was developing the Blitzkrieg doctrine. - Just that everyone split up their forces before WW2 and Guderian figured out that this was a bad thing.) Now imagine, if one of the sides decided to split up their forces. So the first battle would be 1000 vs. 500 and then there would be a second one. In this case the force with all its troops concentrated will win decivisely, as when they exchange volleys for the first time, you'll have a 2:1 ratio. The second volley will be at a 2.4:1 ratio. The third volley will be a 3:1 ratio. This way you end up with the big force ramaining at ~800 troops, while the smaller force gets completely decimated. And then you have the second battle with 800 vs. 500 and the same principle applies. And when it comes to Russia: What I referred to was, what has happened before the attack on Stalingrad. Originally Germany had two axis. The northern one and the southern one. Hitler then demanded the southern one to be split up with one half of it rushing towards the Caucasus oil fields and the other half of it trying to take Stalingrad. (His generals advised him to ignore Stalingrad, by the way, but he wanted to humiliate Stalin and what would be better for this purpose than to conquer the city bearing his name?!) Imagine, if Germany would've had twice as much troops attacking Stalingrad or if Hitler would've actually allowed his generals to go for flexible warfare, as they demanded, instead of forcing them to "never retreat". So I'm not really saying anything against what you've said. I just pointed out the mathematical concept of why splitting up forces is bad and that Germany failed in the East, because it split up its forces (as Hitler himself actually demanded it in his complete megalomania and thinking, that he knows more about warfare than his generals), while you pointed at the result (the battle of Stalingrad) of the split. And yeah. The allies in the west were able to bind enough troops to buy an advantage for the Soviets and vice versa.
Leader IM ϟϟ Ye, of course. That again is going into detail though, which I wasn't talking about. I don't deny, that there are a multitude of factors going into this, that can modify the outcome of a battle. (the weather conditions and experience of a troop alone have huge impacts) Also: The Combined Arms doctrine is intrinsic to the Blitzkrieg doctrine. So even if your land force is relatively small, you make up for that with the coordination of Air, Naval and Ground troops with perfectly coordinated artillery and mobile forces aswell.
Switzerland got bombed by the americans quite a bit. (The pilots apparently had trouble finding Germany.) They shot down a lot of American planes and the USA had to pay reparations. They also interned german pilots who got lost over Switzerland.
I didn’t expect to see you guys here 🙀 We’re only at October 1942, it’ll be crazy to see the Axis retreat in January 1943 with all the Fall Blau territory being retaken in 1 month

@@eldakka2163 When Finland signed an armistice with the Soviet Union, they switched side and declared war on Germany. Most of Finland was free from Germen forces at that point except Lapland. Finland would be at war with Germany until it capitulated on maj 8th 1945.
That isnt true. the only reason turkey joined was because the USA said if anyone joined the war to participate in the german surrender, they would get a seat in the united nations.
Carlos Tiburcio Finland fought against soviet union in winter war (pretty much alone) and then continuation war with germany to reclaim the lands they lost in winterwar. Then they made peace with soviet union and had to get the german forces out of lapland. Germans did not like it and burned down our lapland in lapland war.

The Invasion of tunisia really showed how much forces were in africa, in tunisia it was German Afrika Corps, Italian Army, and the remainder of vichy france forces about ~200,000 men in africa.
Two observations 1. You really chose the best music, the first song really sets the scene and the way the music changes when Germany invades Russia is chilling. 2. Finland is my boyfriend trying to decide what to eat for dinner.
To be honest the joke seem stupid i mean they formed it to prevent another world war. They did not join because they were strong heck if germany was starting to lose at a point in ww2 they would not want to send their soldiers to die on the battlefield. Sorry for busting the joke but its really stupid.
Yep, Britain invaded Iceland to prevent it from possibly falling to into German hands and for its strategic position. Its funny because when the troops landed crowds gathered to watch the military arrive. The British army asked the Icelandic Police to hold back the crowd so they can move the equipment though. In other words the Icelandic police helped the British army occupy Iceland. Thats the level of resistance they were facing :D
You can really feel the grinding halt the Axis had winter 1941-42, the buildup for the offensive into Stalingrad, and just how exhausted they were by D-Day that everything started collapsing left and right. They held Europe in a grip so tight it basically broke their own hand
It's insane to think that 20-something miles of sea kept Britain from being overrun. I had relatives who were lived through WWII and still cannot imagine how stressful it must have been dealing with that for years on end. We still find unexploded bombs now and then, and some areas have bomb craters to this day.
Agreed. Durning the war Kent was actually nicknamed 'Hellfire Corner' as the heaviest German guns could and did lob shells across the channel over there just to be a nuisance. The Channel Isles, which are British Crown dependencies off the French coast actually were occupied for the duration of the war as the UK government thought they weren't strategic enough to defend nor recapture right away when the allies did invade in 1944.
The one lesson I've had to learn like 10 times in studying military history is "No, you THINK you know how demanding amphibious assaults are, but they're harder". Over and over. But I had learned it sufficiently that when people were saying russia would try one against Odessa earlier this year, I took a look at their logistics, command, initiative, etc that we had seen in the first month, and said "not a chance".
Ngl I'm pretty sure Turkey won the war for the allies. Sacrificing 26 million civilians and soldiers to fight and defeat the Wehrmacht? Nothing. Being the most powerful industry and supplying every allied country? Pathetic. Joining the war as the Axis lost? Simply courageous.

Alexei Strife Well of course. They didn't take part in the most destructive war in the history of mankind. Most of Europe would be like that today and the whole world would admire us, if it weren't for Germany, USA and USSR. If only the EU was formed immediately after WW 1.
Bob Der No, you're just a moron. Let's see how they 'Conquered,' half of Europe. France = Completely surprised them, didn't fight a single battle. Poland = Invaded by the two strongest military powers on earth from two separate directions. Czechs = Completely outnumbered, abandoned by its allies. Austria = Not conquered at all. Switzerland's entire population has been in the military for at least two years, everyone owns a rifle, the entire country is a giant fucking mountain, it controlled nearly all the banks in Europe, which included Germany's money, it had a highly nationalistic population, it had a cold climate, it was preparing for war when Poland was invaded, having hidden staches of supplies, weapons, etc, all across the country. You're the same kind of dipshit that would think "KEKEK, VIETNAM? LEL AMERICA'LL KICK THEIR ASSES.' Ignorant fucking hill billy.
It’s sad the realize that each little blip of territory that you see change colors probably cost the lives of thousands of men. Although from here, you see blue and red, what really goes on on the battle field is completely horrifying.
And here kids are making memes and jokes in the comments not realising what has happened on the battle fields. The ones who fought had families and friends, just imagine your son has gone for war and theres no information about him he's just gone missing not even knowing if hes dead or not. We dont know the cost of war but the families who lost their loved ones knew it
Finland only wanted reclaim their lands back and even held back troops from attacking Leningrad. They didnt even allow their SS troops to fight against any other country than Soviets. For not attacking Leningrad was part why they got easier peace terms after war. All other major german allies fell under soviet flag and look how poor those countries are now.

Since SS battalions were raised from over 40 countries in world i guess this simpleton Cmi above would make them collaborators too? He obviously dont know jack shit about history
Allied as was written to get lands back that was unjustly lost cause noone else would have helped. To call allied people nazis you must be totally simpleminded, my 2 grandfathers both fought on 2 different sides on this war so i think i know some things that you cant never read on internet. Stop beeing such a fool: "Yes, they were allies from 1941-1944. Finland wasn’t, however, part of the original axis. Finns preferred the term “co-belligerent”, because they resigned from Nazi racial politics and regarded the alliance merely as a possibility to reconquer the areas Finland had lost to Soviet Union in Winter War (and possibly to conquer some more too, had the Greater Finland plans come to fruition). Finland finally turned against her ally in the 1944-45 Lapland War, banishing the remaining German troops that burned down northern Finland while retreating." Some people still are such simple people that they believe all bullshit thrown to them, Fins never gave even jews to nazis when other nations allied to him did. Fins didnt fight anyone else except Soviets to take back wrongfully stolen land. And you claim they are nazis? Omg who taught you in school must be uneducated, or maybe its just you.

@Issac Arellano They weren't part of the Axis, they only took advantage that the USSR was distracted with the axis and invaded them to get their former territories
Finland got support from the third reich only during the continuation war. (1941-1944) In the winter war (1939-1940) only aid Finland got was a couple of thousand volunteers from Sweden and Estonia + non-military aid from Sweden.
Technically they were an Axis power, as allied with 3rd reich. Modern historian keep it distinct, because of political reasons. Although, there is the argument thei joined the wrong side due to USSR, and not because they were "willing to". But that doesn't change the fact they fought in cooperation with Germany and almost conquered Leningrad.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to do this. In all my studying of WWII I've always wanted a visualization of the power shifts like this, I wish we'd had this in high school. It really shows how unstoppable Nazi Germany seemed at first - first they were just here, then suddenly they're almost everywhere.
Turkey: Imma stay neutral by not fighting anyone. World: Understandable, have a nice day. Finland: Imma stay neutral by fighting everyone. World: Understan... wait, what?
Second track - 'The Descent' by Kevin Macleod is very accurately following the changes in the map. It starts with the attack on the Soviet Union, and changes the whole atmosphere of the video. At its peak moment, we see the start of the Caucasus campaign by the nazis. When the music starts to slow down, Germany has already suffered the painful defeat in Stalingrad and the allies are ready for the landing of Sicily. The track ends with the nazi forces withdrawing from Soviet Union and Soviet forces carrying the war theatre to Balkans

Both of my great grandfathers and my great- great grandfather from my mums side was in the last biggest battle of Europe (Battle For Berlin) They were Russian and Uzbek.
It was because of the Winter War, when the Soviet Union invaded Finland; and Finland later accepted some German help after the Nazis invaded the USSR. However, from the very beginning, Finland was against the Nazis because they were democratic, and after signing armistice with the Soviets (the Soviets having taken some Finnish land but having suffered massive casualties due to strong Finnish resistance), they turned against the Nazis, repelling them from Finland and eventually joining the Allies. So technically they were both Axis because they were fighting the Soviets, and Allies because they were fighting the Nazis. You should read about the Winter War and Finland during WWII, its actually really cool.
Actually, in this video it was green from 1939 to 1941, and then from 1941 to 1945 it was blue. This means that the USSR was on it's own from '39 to '41, but when the Germans attacked it in 1941, it needed help from the Allies, so it has joined them and stopped being on it's own
@@hordlood USSR didn't formally join anything during that war. And USSR helped to the allies much more than the allies helped to the USSR. Also the first help from the allies arrived just in 1942.
People think communists had a lot to do with winning over Nazi Germany. But as a matter of fact, they only disturbed. NOT Russians, but the communists. Cause Stalin ignored the warnings and failed to prepare for the invasion. Weakened the Russian Army with the "Great Purge". If there was a responsible government who understood what happened since Sep1. 1939, not ignoring the warnings, and getting ready for the war - The Allied could have won much sooner. This was what Turkey needed. Because the founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was just passed away and Turkey was not able to fight with another countries. Because there were already other countries' agents in Turkey who were trying to end the country from the inside. Turkey did a smart choice and stayed out of war. +The Stalker It does happen. +TheFrozenGargon The more you look into WWII the more you learn just how much those years changed the world and in how many ways. Without WWII we would not be living int he world today. No UN, no jet engine, radar, no powerful US, Britain and France would likely still be super powers (as they were before WWII) The Soviet Union would probably still exist, China may not be communist, Japan may not have given up their warrior culture, no Atomic Weapons, no computers (The first one was devised to break the German code, ultimately it was the Poles who broke it). The EU would not exist, neither would NATO ect ect. So much changed during or as a direct consequence of WWII, so much, in fact, that without it, the next big war may well have been Between Britain and the US. During the 30's the two were at each other's throats and tension was high. It was only Churchill's personal family connection with Roosevelt (they were distant relatives) that sparked off the 'special relationship' the UK and US share today. +TheFrozenGargon I have a little question guys. So, a few weeks back I bought 3 books about world war 2, each containing 400 pages. So, everything seemed normal until I reached the Operation Barbarossa. What stunned me is that it says, that before the invasion the Germans had 7 million troops in total. This stuns me, because I have read several things on the internet, watched at least 10 documentaries about the eastern front and world war 2, and they all say that Germany attacked Russia with 80% of their forces, 3.2 million troops. My book says that the Germans had 7 million troops and used 3.2 million for Russia, and that they *only had 370,000 replacement troops*!! This very much surprised me, as I have heard people saying that Germany had an army of 4 million in total in 1941 and then I read in my book and find out that it says otherwise. Now which one should I trust ? Numerous documentaries I watched, numerous things on the internet I have read or only one book??
ilija stankovic That is actually a really good question, and for once, I am stumped. I would have said they attacked with about 4 million. @@danielwu7238 At least according to conventional wisdom, the axis powers are defined by participation to the tripartite pact. Finland was not a signatory and therefore not an actual axis power. Even during the war, not all allied powers considered Finland to be an axis power either even as it was clear to everyone that Finland was a co-belligerent with them, Germany in particular, in a common war effort against the Soviet Union. There never existed, for instance, a state of war between Finland and the United States, a major allied power. Finland fought in the war for its own interests.

What I was referring to with the math thing:
Imagine you have two forces facing each other off.
Both consist of 1000 soldiers and each salve that one force fires roughly deals damage equal to 10% of their own strength. (So a force with 1000 soldiers firing for the first time will kill 100 opposing soldiers. - A force with 500 soldiers firing will get rid of 50 opposing soldiers.)

(This is roughly what happened during WW1 and what inspired Guderian when he was developing the Blitzkrieg doctrine. - Just that everyone split up their forces before WW2 and Guderian figured out that this was a bad thing.)
Now imagine, if one of the sides decided to split up their forces.
And when it comes to Russia:
What I referred to was, what has happened before the attack on Stalingrad.
Originally Germany had two axis. The northern one and the southern one.
Hitler then demanded the southern one to be split up with one half of it rushing towards the Caucasus oil fields and the other half of it trying to take Stalingrad. (His generals advised him to ignore Stalingrad, by the way, but he wanted to humiliate Stalin and what would be better for this purpose than to conquer the city bearing his name?!)
Imagine, if Germany would've had twice as much troops attacking Stalingrad or if Hitler would've actually allowed his generals to go for flexible warfare, as they demanded, instead of forcing them to "never retreat".
(the weather conditions and experience of a troop alone have huge impacts)
Also: The Combined Arms doctrine is intrinsic to the Blitzkrieg doctrine. So even if your land force is relatively small, you make up for that with the coordination of Air, Naval and Ground troops with perfectly coordinated artillery and mobile forces aswell.
Switzerland: if I dont move, nobody will see me.

Yep, Britain invaded Iceland to prevent it from possibly falling to into German hands and for its strategic position.
You must be really stupid if you think the sea is the reason there invasion attempts were unsuccessful.

Allied as was written to get lands back that was unjustly lost cause noone else would have helped. To call allied people nazis you must be totally simpleminded, my 2 grandfathers both fought on 2 different sides on this war so i think i know some things that you cant never read on internet. Stop beeing such a fool:
"Yes, they were allies from 1941-1944.
Finland finally turned against her ally in the 1944-45 Lapland War, banishing the remaining German troops that burned down northern Finland while retreating."
Some people still are such simple people that they believe all bullshit thrown to them, Fins never gave even jews to nazis when other nations allied to him did. Fins didnt fight anyone else except Soviets to take back wrongfully stolen land. And you claim they are nazis? Omg who taught you in school must be uneducated, or maybe its just you.

Technically they were an Axis power, as allied with 3rd reich. Modern historian keep it distinct, because of political reasons. Although, there is the argument thei joined the wrong side due to USSR, and not because they were "willing to".
(for instance - instead of 3M soldiers at front, Russia had 10M soldiers at front. They manufactured enough weapon for the war. They secured their airplanes. WW2 in Europe could have been over in 1942!).
If anything - the communists only disturbed.

Hitler ruined Germany with his useless decisions, unfortunately those were crucial, if would've left all the war for his generals, you would be speaking german, rofl.
If they would have captured Moscow and Russia capitulated, there's no telling how much longer the war would have gone. At the end of the day, USA was still the first to get nukes, so I think Germany winning still would have been a long shot.
Getting nukes, with some of the brightest German minds, exactly lol. Don't forget the development of the ballistic German rockets, especially after capturing the vast ressources of the Soviet Union.
UK: Ok so we are fighting in a war now ok
Turkey: uhhh I’m gonna stay out of this
*6 Years Later*
UK: Righty Germany are about to surrender
Turkey: *joins the war*
It was due to the construction of UN, which stated the states which haven't declared war on Germany, would not be included in the UN. So a series of declarations took place. Turkey, Saudi Arabia.
This was what Turkey needed. Because the founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was just passed away and Turkey was not able to fight with another countries. Because there were already other countries' agents in Turkey who were trying to end the country from the inside. Turkey did a smart choice and stayed out of war. Also, Turkey got into war at the end because it was one of the very first step for becoming a member of League of Nations which was found by Woodrow Wilson at January 10, 1920, so Turkey declared symbolically to show that they were with UK and others.

Without it we were more likely to be enemies. War Plan Red suggests this.
+TheFrozenGargon educated? Let's see. most of top comments are talking about how to chill when a war is happening. nope.. it's still a plain ol internet.
Numerous documentaries I watched, numerous things on the internet I have read or only one book??
ilija stankovic
That is actually a really good question, and for once, I am stumped. I would have said they attacked with about 4 million. The raid on Britain had stopped but the war was still fought in North Africa and in late '41 Hitler had to bail out Mussolini.Granted the 'Afrika Corp' under Rommel was small, but honestly I am not sure.
If you do find the answer, please let me know.

stalingrad was indeed a major victory but germany still had enough strength after that battle to launch the kursk offensive
stalingrad gave the soviets room for offensive action but germany recovered with the 3rd battle of kharkov which was a disaster for the soviets
3rd kharkov stabilized the front on the south and prevented the total collapse of army group south

Finland is actually an axis power. Finland just never sign the tripartite pact that all of the official central european axis powers signed.

@@herptek Everyone fought for their own interests. You also restate a redundant fact that I already made clear, which is "Finland just never sign the tripartite pact."
