@@hundkebab2433 Yeah man! If you haven't heard, the 20th Anniversary Edition is out now! It's brought a tiny spark back into the community for this game again haha
Dude i used to play that game as a kid and it was my absolute favorite ever since. I've never met someone who knew it before but seeing you here in the comments loving this game just as much as i do really warmed my heart. Thanks for making my Day man
Thank you so much for the kind comment, dude! I know the struggle of even finding someone else who's even heard of this game, let alone played it. I'll definitely have to beat this run soon!
Love this video, always tried to find someone who played this game with commentary so it’s a peace of mind to know someone is making class content on this game. Much love brother!
Thank you! Once I eventually get the sub 1:40 I plan on making a gameplay & commentary only breakdown of the run, hopefully it doesn't take too long, getting a best time in this game is very tedious! But every time I get another amazing comment like yours, it gives me another boost in motivation, so thank you so much, dude!
Dude, congratulations! It's one of my all-time favorite games, and the very first one I've purchased. It was so long ago in a small town in the Urals. I bartered the disc from a classmate for a craft I made from broken batteries. lol
One of my all time favorites since i played it on ps2 as a kid. Make a casual playthrough every few years, last time was a while ago. The first time i watched a speedrun and enjoyed every second of it. Thanks
Thank you so much for this run! I used to play this game with my dad, nostalgia just hits me hehehe. Btw I'm from Russia and russian localization is also great and it was interesting for me to watch an English version, so good
i am bit late to the party but I was wondering if someone made a speedrun of this game. I kinda like how creative speedrunners are with their messing with game and was curious what tactics and skips you can make here. I was so surprised to see beluga so early in the game. Thanks for uploading it :)
@@szczurekpropagandy8753 Thanks for enjoying the run! And yes, the 'Early Beluga' trick is very, very broken! Hopefully we can still do it in the 20th Ann Edition coming out in a day or 2!
Wow when I looked up the run a couple years ago that early flight engine glitch in mamago garage wasn't a thing. Is there a video or something that explains how it works? BG&E speedrunning discord? Awesome run, I love this game.
we aren't *entirely* sure how it works, but Pica's guide is very good: www.speedrun.com/beyond_good_and_evil/guide/nr1a9 The speedrun page linked also has a link to the discord~
It took me over a year to beat that game bcs i was like seven and i played it with my dad and he didn't quit understand the german languege so i already struggled as a 7 year old toddler and we couldn't figuer it out with the shoes and terminals for that so seeing some one beating this gooooooood f€€king game under 2 hours is very impresive. And on german this game is really a masterpiece and still waiting for the 2end part
Is there a way to check what area I'm in when playing this game? I know it says what area you're visiting when loading into it, but what about when you're already there? I don't see the name on the map.
That's a really good question, I don't think there is outside of using an mdisk reader and saving (the save menu, of course, displays the map name of wherever you have saved) I'm booting up the game rn to have a look~
I'm laughing so hard right now, you're right! There's no way to know outside of the load screen, or the save menu (and thats only if you've saved in THAT specific map). I never realised that before, thanks for pointing it out!
Thought I’d look up the WR for some speedrunnng tricks since the 20th anniversary has a speedrun mode. Some of the tricks here are crazy 😂 have you had chance to play 20 Anniversary yet? If so do these sequence breaks still work? I’d love to see what time you can get this down to with cutscene skipping!
Thanks for checking out the run! And yes, I have played the new version! Every trick in this run is possible, except for the 'Early Beluga' trick near the start! Meaning that even WITH cutscene skip, the 20AE is still slower than the OG or this HD version! Meaning, im probably only going to run the new one once for the 'play the speedrun mode' achievement, then probably just keep running the HD version
@@Jek47 It's not even that they necessarily went out to remove that one trick, they just revamped the slightly out-of-date camera system in the game, which, as an unfortunate side effect, removed the ability to perform the trick (that we know of, so far!)
The desync in the first 26 minutes was kinda funny, but that one technical hiccup aside, this was a really fun run to watch, of one of the best games ever made. I do have one question though. Is there a particular reason you pick up the Jet Boots from the locker? I assume so, since it's an any% run. In a casual run, that would be needed to get the codes on the soles to unlock the Beluga. But with the Early Beluga trick, retrieving the Jet Boots doesn't seem like it'd be necessary.
Thank you for enjoying the run! And It's just needed to progress through the factory, the 2 drones that drop down just after collecting the boots, do not drop down if you don't collect the boots.
On pc is more much easier on console when i was playing ps2 beyond good and evil i was raging on final boss and finally beat it when i beat I remember when double h died on electric it was So fucking funny
@@paparastancu8206 There are 2 different console versions, I find this version I'm on (the HD version only on PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, XSX) to be the best/definitive version. But of course it all comes down to personal preference. Funnily enough, the PC port is pretty commonly considered to be the worst version of the game, and I tend to agree. And yes, double H sucks so bad sometime lmao
I was interested what a speedrun would look like. Still running this game? I just finished the remaster. Nice thing it has a speedrun mode and skippable cutscenes 😉
I am! Life has just made me very busy! (became a father in mid-2020) Once I have the free time again I plan to take this down under 1h 40m! And the remaster is incredible, ive been enjoying it greatly, they fixed the camera so now its even better whilst exploring all the areas - but, the only downside is the camera fix means we cannot perform the 'Early Beluga' trick near the start of this run! So, even WITH cutscenes being skippable, this HD version (and the PC OG version) is still faster! This doesn't apply for the 100% run thankfully, where Early Beluga isn't used (for routing/sequencing reasons). So once im done with this HD version I will be running 100% on the 20AE! tl;dr - new version fun, but older versions faster
Its exactly as it looks, it's a very weird trick that is not fully understood. You can find a loose tutorial for it on the Beyond Good & Evil speedrun.com page. But it is weird and super inconsistent. Sometimes its instant - sometimes you only hit it once an hour.
You can get it from Steam, it might take a bit of tweaking the settings to get it run well on modern PCs. If you ever have troubles you can look for solutions either on Google or by asking nicely for some help in the BG&E speedrunning discord: discord.com/invite/VwAzTsj
