This is a very competently well done video. This lady could have her own nature show on TV.
TV isn’t for educating, it’s for distracting the public
You could put this straight on network TV(and it'd be even better than what's there already). They did an AMAZING job.
@@orandilu989 PBS does stuff like this- if it's already made, you can keep rights to your own work AND sell it on PBS.
I have a small balcony that functions as my garden and this spring I accidently grew champions in a pot that got some rain. Apparently me using the water I use to wash veggies and mushrooms to water my plants during the year was enough to innoculate that pot and produce a nice amount of mushrooms over the winter/ early spring when the pot was supposed to lay dormant.
Really opened my eyes to how simple it is to grow mushrooms and really looking forward to giving your technique a try once I have a bit of a real garden.
I love your videos. It’s like a nice breath of fresh air from the constant “influencers”. Both of you guys are soft spoken and so knowledgeable. Thank you for sharing all your cool knowledge!!
Wow this is a fantastic video. Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like I am learning so much from y’all. God bless.
Best information video. Covers EVERYTHING. Appreciate all ur time and effort to make this and educate us.
Thank you! So much thanks!
this is awesome! its so well done and informative, you come across as both passionate and knowledgeable. thanks for sharing!
Super helpful video. Once you’ve inoculated logs do you have to worry about other strains of potentially harmful mushrooms growing in the log as well?
I enjoyed the video. I definitely prefer the long form content with the videos vs shorts. Thanks for sharing
Excellent top quality presentation and information. 👍 well done.
I'm an omnivore and once I ordered a vegan cheesesteak by accident. It featured Shiitake mushrooms. It was really good!
I’m use to seeing your short vids, but this is my first time watching a full length. Very very well done! Covers everything
Just found you! What a well done, informative yet entertaining show. Discovery Channel should be your next gig!!!
Thank you!
This was excellent. I learned a lot and cannot wait to try growing mushrooms myself.
Thank you
Wonderful video girl !
I am a huge forager! But have been definitely wanting to get my own going! Thank you ❤️✌️
Homemade Sriracha is easy to make with stuff from the garden. That would be a good episode since we know now that Sriracha can be sold out for months at a time. It requires minimal firmentation time for some recipes.
Well done video. Been following you guys on TT/IG for awhile so glad I found you here too!
One of the best videos I’ve seen in a while
I want to do that for some time now, just need more info on it and when to do int and how to get spores of mushrooms I like it too like Honey mushrooms, and other veriety of mushrooms. I live near woods and lots of fallen trees ect, Oak's 🌳🌳too
New to channel. Very informative. Thanks for sharing your journey and knowledge ✌️🏼
Thx so much. Not heard many talking about which trees to use.
Wow, this is so informative! Can't wait for the course!

You guys are amazing! such an inspiration! I can't to try this, I've grown mushrooms indoors only and want to try this method! I'm so exited thanks for sharing!
This video deserves more views! Thanks for making it!
Very informative. Thanks heaps from Australia
Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Not only the video was informative, but the Raman recipe was quite good.
Very well done
Great point about Vitamin D.... I was so vitamin D deficient I felt like I was dying, and I was sooooo depressed and my moods were swinging rapidly throughout the day... Once we figured out what was going on, I felt the effect from the Vitamin D supplement same day... I've been on the up-and-up ever since. I probably lived with a D deficiency for over a decade; but, I had only gotten bad over the past year.... 80% of Americans are D deficient, so watch out... People are likely on prescriptions but could be just low in Vitamin D. I was literally setting up a doctor's appointments to get an anti-depressants; but, I couldn't get in to see him for 6 months... Lucky me! Figured it out!
Now I'm looking to get Shiitake to see if it'll lower help my LDL without me getting on Crestor 💀
I'm going to try this. I usually find morels in indiana this time of year, but no luck so far. It would be nice to have mushrooms on hand!
Just found you, new sub here, enjoyed
This earned you a new subscriber. *LOL*
Nice
May I ask where you got the drill bit for the angle grinder and what it's called? I've asked at all the stores around me and they now think I'm nuts. Please help me find one haha
Hey guys, thank you so so much for all the information you gave in this video. I want to start growing shiitake but I don’t have logs from the trees you mentioned. Do you think I can use Ailanthus Altissima (tree of heaven)?
nice vid
I absolutely loved this!
I’m going to start doing this now. Is winter an ok time to start?
If you live somewhere with cold winters (like zone 6 or colder), I would wait till spring or keep your inoculated logs under a blanket until it gets warmer just because there’s a danger of killing the mycelium when they’re first inoculated. But after a few months of it spreading through the log they are fine to stay outside for good!
Great video,, subscribed.
What angle grinder adapter and bit are you using?? does not look like a standard twist bit?
How long does it take for a log to start fruiting?
😮 Hell yes! I just bought a property and there are sweet gum growing all over it! ☺️ can you grow them on living sweet gum?
Alton brown proved that water logging in mushrooms is very minimal.
Hey I've been watching your videos for a time now and I'm very inspired by you, I want to know that if I've grown mushroom from spawns, can now once I have them do I need to buy spawns again or is there a way to grow them from grown mushroom like using them like seeds or something? Please help
Good Video! any idea how the drill bit is called? or do you have a link to the shop?
Could you use grain spawn and force into the log like you would dust spawn
Hi. How do you keep your growing area free from pests such as 🐀?
How well do they deal with winter? I live in Maine, and we have some harsh winter conditions at times.
Great video! Where do you guys get your mushroom spawn?
Mostly from Field and Forest Products
WOW! How did you all learn all this?!!
Once you buy the mycelium once do you have to buy it again?
Do you need to buy new mycelium every time or can you use the growing mushrooms?
hey there, what attachment did you put on the angle grinder to make the holes so fast? It looks way easier than using a drill
This is fantastic and look forward to doing this soon. What about winter areas?
Shiitakes grow well in cold areas, they just typically go dormant in the Winter.
@@HomegrownHandgathered like Maine is a good location for lions Maine and shiitake?
I can't comment on the longer video for some reason. But how did you learn all of this??? You ever put together a book?
Nice info? How do in semi arid hot summer environment? Rain 12-15” year.
Hey thanks for the great video! Mushrooms produce D2, not D3. Curious about the production of D2 from sun exposure. Will go research now 😊 thanks! Ergocalciferol might be the name of mushroom D2?
How does one inoculate a log? I'm open for answers from anyone, I'm curious.
Wait how do you get the logs from arborist trucks? Do you just go up and ask them?
Yup! Just make sure it’s safe to approach if they’re up in the tree. They’re used to people doing that to get firewood.
Reported! This is too good
Do you recommend any other varieties to grow in logs besides shiitake mushrooms?
How do you dry your shitake mushrooms? Do you dehydrate or freeze dry?
How many varieties do you grow and harvest?
Is there any concern about a different, inedible mushroom catching on and growing? Is it unlikely, or do you just know how to recognize edible/inedible mushrooms?
Just subscribed live your channel Just wondering after you do your initial planting of your shiitake mushrooms in your logs and they sprout do you have to refill the plugs again or don’t bother
Nope, once the logs are fruiting they just keep going on their own until the log is broken down. No need to reinoculate
We live in Kansas with cold winters.Would it still be possible to grow mushrooms in our climate? And in this method?
So my understanding is that Shiitake, while taking a long time to first produce, will produce for several years. After you harvest, do you put wax over the plug again?
Do you think this is possible to grow in SW Florida
What do you do when the log is done, how can you keep growing without buying over and over?
can you guide me through sawdust mushrooming please
This video is so insanely informative. Are you a biologist or anything or is this all self taught?
Thank you! We both have degrees in biology, but we learned how to grow mushrooms from reading and doing it for years
This is good shiit
Question, does anybody know what attachment was used on the grinder to make those holes? It seems a lot faster than using a drill.
angle grinder
@@hello-ii5lhthat’s the tool. Not the attachment on the tool. They’re asking about the attachment. :)
@@hello-ii5lh yes I have a grinder and many other tools but that's a specific attachment that attaches to the grinder....that's my question
I grow them on oak logs. Unfortunately they fruit only in spring and autumn, during summer and winter I have to buy them in supermarket (not that good as mine).
How did you make the miso?
“Get a cup of salt water and go on a slug hunt”💀💀
Does this work for Canadians too ?
I am in zone 5b, quite harsh winter with temperature sometimes reaching -30C.
@@MitchelleDavis-bh1yj ???
A inn kote ngen in a comment to aki lou e
Can bradford pear be used for shitaki?
We haven’t tried that, but I bet oyster mushrooms would do well on it
Great stuff! We're growing Shiitakes for sure now! I just have to figure out how to do this in zone 6 where it will be 7 degrees F next week.
Hi, could you please suggest a supplier for spawn? I am a complete beginner and have no idea where to get shiitake mushroom spawn from a trusted supplier. Thank you so much.
We usually go with Field and Forest Products. Great family-owned company
Thank you so much for your fast response. I will check out their website for purchase information.
maam this type of mushroom grows by its own in kashmir
60 minutes exactly is the ideal time to sun them (scientifically)
This is Oak Mushroom.
What USDA growing zone u guys at?
6b 🙂
What do you have to do before you inaculate logs? Do you have to put them in water for 24 hrs , just water them or do nothing
So yummy but.. Eww looks way worse then Sweet flowers lols
What an unfortunate name, of the mushroom that is!?!
It grows on the Shii tree natively in Japan!
