    Thank you for the informative tutorial. It's one of the more challenging tasks to tackle on a SAAB, but it's such a relief when it's done.

    The SAAB is a really nice car, well engineered. If I didn't have the experience of owning 2 Volvos about 20 years ago I may have bought a SAAB. The Swedes knew how to engineer a good car.

      They do know how to make good cars. But the saab engineers are Bad at designing alternator positions 😂👍

      No kidding! Just today replaced an alternator on my 2003 9-5 Aero wagon, OMG!! What an unbelievable pain…removed it from the top side.

      LOL. To be fair the two cars come from different eras.Early SAABs looked as if they were simple to repair and maintain , anything after about 2000 was intentionally made difficult for the benefit of the mechanics who charged to fix them. I sympathise with your pain, maybe the next job will be a breeze.@@rburkett1939

    Przy aucie marki SAAB jest zawsze dużo fajnej zabawy, powodzenia w nowych projektach. Ja odnalazłem nową pasję przy zabawie z SAAB'EM. Jest super

    If you remove the alternator bracket (4 bolts, pretty easy to get to) the alternator easily comes out from the top. Better than trying to remove exhaust.

      As i explained in the video and in one of the comments, there is no way of doing that on a 2002OG. The complete strud tower is in your way wich makes it impossible. For what i have heard you can do this on a 95 stationwagon or the newer type 93 saabs. But trust me, on the car i have in that video there is no way.

      I have also done it from the top. Removing the tensioner 8m, and the 4 13s on the bracket is necessary. Can be done in two hours. Always get engine warm initially because those two 8m can be a beach to break.

      @@dzlsabeplease tell me wich type of car you have because on the car in the video, like i clearly showed. It is NOT possible from the top.
      It can be done from the top on station wagons and other saab types but on a 9-3 like in the video there is litteraly not nearly enough room.

    Als je de spanner los haalt zit ook met 1 schroef vast naast de bovenste schroef. Wil het ook.

      Dat was uit mijn hoofd een grote 7mm inbus? Daar was net zo goed niet bij te komen als de rest en helaas door een van de vorige eigenaren was die bout al geen inbus meer.. dus hebben we het maar gedaan zoals in de video 👍🏻

      The reason i sold the saab and bought a Volvo 240 again 😆

    My alternator seized up so badly that it stalls the engine whilst making a nice little smoke show out of the belt, i thought it was just the idler pulley until i took the belt off

    • @RollinHeritage
      @RollinHeritage  Рік тому +1

      ohh thats bad.. the bearings must have been gone for a while then? 😱

    • @archygrey9093
      @archygrey9093 Рік тому +2

      @Rollin' Heritage It had been making noises for a few weeks, about 6 months ago we had alot of flooding that took weeks to go away (typical northern Australia) which meant i was doing a fair bit of driving through water that came almost halfway up the wheels, since the alternator is mounted real low on the engine i believe this must have washed out the bearings or something.
      SAAB only has 130,000km on the odo which is far too soon for the alternator bearings to go out, Already replaced the knackered automatic transmission and seized up turbo 4 months ago so the alternator should be easy to do in comparison.

    My apologies but I gotta be honest how irritating it was to sit through this with bated breath waiting for you to explain where the alternator b1+ and b2 + connections go, only to recognize way more was done for a simple answer. PLEASE HELP. Everyone is skipping CRUCIAL INFO on where they should hook up to.
    My alternator came out easy from TOP without all the removal of extra parts, so this feels uncomfortably awkward to learn anything from. It’s not that big a job as I notice you repeated saying so often. It’s a hassle but not big. I feel clout chased when the important electrical information isn’t clarified how it should be

    • @RollinHeritage
      @RollinHeritage  Рік тому +2

      Well, saying you had to "Sit Through this"..
      I"m not perfect, and my video's are not either. I couldn't find an alternator swap video for this car so i made one. If you don't like the the video, please feel free to watch some one elses, I'm not forcing you to watch anything 🙂
      The first thing i say to anyone doing work on their car is to take pictures from what they take off the car. that might be a nice little tip for the next time you take electrical connections off. 🙂
      B1 is always the connection that runs to the battery/startermotor. b2 is the same connection as b1 but just an extra point.
      And i'm going to say this again just like i did in the video. On the type of car in this video, Saab 93OG 2002 you can NOT take it out from the top. there is no way possible. i did hear from someone else that on 9-5 models this can be done because the enige bay is a bit different. but i'm missing 3 to 4 inches of space to take it out from the top.

      @@RollinHeritage I admit I was super stupid and forgot to photograph or it was in a broken phone I couldn’t get to. I figured it out last night out of enraged curiosity. I’m lucky I’m alive and the car too. The Viggen is probably different, which I guess I didn’t think about until after the fact. Unbracing the strut bars allows it to be wiggled out although I’m small and the alternator is a heavy joker. I may provide my own version but follow your instructions almost because if I wouldn’t have commented if was entirely discouraged from watching yours. Tbh the struggle you expressed is real, and it is slightly frustrating to handle, but feels good when you’re done. RESPECT! I’m proud of y’all

      @@queenqik2JZ There is another nice video out there on youtube wich i watched before doing this. That guy pulled it right out from the top. But afterwards i found out he was working on a 2002 saab 9-5 instead of a 9-3. I removed the strud brace and even then the complete shock tower was in the way..
      And let's not cut that out 🥲😆
      I sold the saab last week. wen't back to my trusty old volvo's all because i hate working on the saab. 🤷
