Hey all, little update on the door lock/window malfunction: took the door panel off yesterday and noticed a connector was unplugged somehow. Reconnected it and the issue was solved. Something very simple, thankfully! :)
SAAB regresa a México este próximo octubre!
Glad u found a solution an fixed the problem
Thanks man
Great video! Good to know also how you release serpentine belt and that cooling line removal. Thanks! :)
:)
Very cool. Have not done that yet. Looks pretty easy.
Advice after noticing you removing the ECU: Find a spare Good used ECU from a salvage yard.
Mine went out at 192k, and they can be hard to find or ridiculously expensive for the few new ones left out there.
I recommend checking out Trionictuning's site for learning how to flash it yourself.
Good idea, I'll look into it!
Thanks! Will try this at the weekend when the replacement alternator arrives. Was the auxiliary belt easy to remove using that tool you purchased? Which drive did you use? I saw another You Tuber (Cyclone Cyd) just stick the 3/8 connector straight into the tension pulley. Any tips?
yeah, same thing. Not much else to mention that isn't covered in this video or his!
Where did you get the alternator from
Great work. I wished you showed the belt removal. I just had to replace my belt and I couldn't get that tool to work for me. Any help would be good in case I have to do it again in the future.
I had to cut the same tool he got and make it short enough to use it from above engine.
@@stevmore6040 thanks for the info. Another UA-camr showed a ratcheting tool from NAPA that really got the job done.
Yeah, you have to cut it to make it short enough to give you leverage
@@AutoAutopsy NAPA makes a ratcheting tool that works perfectly.
@@hermanshelton3660 What is the tool at Napa? Sadly, bought the one in the video and had not read the comments!
I bloody love saabs
LOL
Nice work, nice wheels what's the offset ? And I notice you have lowering springs how much did you lowered the car?
Not sure about offset on the wheels. It’s lowered about 1.5” all around
I have the same car and I'm 16 bought it my self
Welcome to the Club! These cars are awesome, especially for a first car. I advise getting into the chats like saabcentral and learning about WIS and EPC, a couple of Dealer-level computer apps that will make it easy to save money and keep it running. Good luck!
NiceA!
Welcome to our cult ;)
Good choice!
good job lad!
Hey bro I'm digging the videos. Can you recommend where I can purchase an alternator for my saab. It's the same as your 03 but mine is 6 speed manual. I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
you can get one used on eBay or a facebook group or try esaabparts
.. :D this video came in handy sooner than expected..
;)
Unfortunately have got the same problem here. 2006 9-3, alternator is broken, battery isn't charging.. thanks for the tutorial. Will send my car to a garage anyway, though it's nice to know how to do this.
When starting my car, the engine sounds very.. irregular - not smooth. Would this also be something the alternator 'changes'?
I'm having the same rough idling issue. Did your replacement alternator fix it?
Do you know what alternator would be the right one? I need to replace mine and the closest options to OEM are Bosch... one with 90, 120 or 140A... I’m afraid is the last one because it has climate control, automatic and everything else electric... what is your opinion? Thanks!!!
I think it’s 140, but I’m not certain. You can always check the part number of your current one vs ones online
Wait so did the abs light ever come back on after changing the abs module? Or did it come back on, and turn off after changing the alternator? Thanks
never came back on, but i also never drove it between swapping the module and the alternator
Hi Friend. I was just watching your video and I need advise, If you can help me. My car's lights is not working. When the switch is in the park light position all the lights switches, expect the headlights, obviously, this is correct. But when I switch the headlights on everything dead. According to Saab it was been told that my switch does not receive +X VOLTAGE. I have been testing the battery and the alternator, both working fine. I have ordered the orange relay and a switch. Any advise where I can look for fault. I have a Saab 93 2002 Turbo 2.0 Thanks. With Regards. Riaan
Probably a fuse I'd think. Your alternator or battery would have nothing to do with that most likely
First of all thank you for your videos.
My question is what alternator did you go with 140 or 120?
My wife has an 03 SAAB 9-3 Arc 6 speed.
Want to purchase, so I can drop off alternator and car with my mechanic.
Thank you,
Larry
I believe it's the 140, although i got this one rebuilt/second hand
I wanted to know how you got the belt off. I bought the same tool and i had to cut it and make it shorter
Oof
Should have mentioned that in the video, sorry. You will have to cut it in order to make it work
hi How many kilometers your Saabs done just before you changed the alternator?
it had about 130k miles
Just curious, what song was playing during the installation process
Habits (NCS Release)
Do you know where the camshaft position sensor is located?
look on esaabparts, there's a diagram
Is your coolant supposed to be that high ? I have a 2004 arc 2.0t and the coolant levels way lower then that ?
I filled that high; doesn't make a difference so long as its not low
Do you think you would have been able to get the alternator out without disconnecting the coolant line?
nope, best to disconnect it. You can drain the coolant from the bottom of the radiator though if you don't want to make a mess
You know watching this made me realize what went wrong with my 2011 Saab 9³. I noticed my coolant level was draining fast which led me to think I had a coolant leak. Mt alternator also went around the same time. Still functioned but functioned weirdly. Now I think that the leak may have been from the line right above the alternator causing it to short.
Weird. Definitely could have been
What Kit did you use because the one I bought wasn’t the right on e
I didn’t buy any kit.
as you know these things a bitter then me my 2003 93 aero starts runs good about 5 minutes then idles really rough so I shut it off try start again turns over then died try to restart it just won't turn over I unplug the negative terminal plug back in and it starts up 5 mins later does it again any ideas?
Mine is doing the same thing, did you end up fixing it?
Hello, have you turned on the lights and air conditioning? Or not?? What voltage was under load ??
What? Before or after replacement? The car would die before replacing it
@@AutoAutopsy before replacement.
Hi there, how was the mileage on this saab when you changed alternator? cheers
gas mileage..?
My Saab got 146k miles in the clock so its time to change alternator?
God bless you!
:')

Don’t throw away the faulty alternator. Open it up and check the brushes, those are replaceable. Worn brushes are quite common on “faulty” alternators.
Yeah, I still have it. Maybe I can do a separate video looking into that
Hey! I have SAAB 9-3 2.0t 2003 129kw, and i have white smoke, fuel smell, sound and feels engine works on 3 cylinders, i have cheng engine, i have change spark plugs and soils! I have heard that its bad ECU, but someone said it cant be, im stucked and dont know what to do?!
I would post about this on a saab facebook group; i don't want to give you bad information!
I have the same issue, fuel smell in the Cab, white smoke out of the exhaust, I see oil on the back top part of the motor.
Maybe can change the kolbridge only be more cheaper stuff,i i will do on my saab not start beacouse alternator?
First start then not and when it start alternator show 10 voltage only😋😋
yeah could be
Nagyon el van dugva ! Megnéztem volna egy töltő feszültséget!
Good video wish you wouldn’t included socket sizes though
I wouldn’t include socket sizes?
Would’ve typo
Not my favorite video of yours, I wish you filmed the removal and mentioned types and sizes of bolts, missed opportunity I see
Thanks for sharing what you did though..what year is your arc?
..my is a 2004 convertible
Something that's just about impossible to film due to hands/bodies in the way unfortunately. Mine is a 2003
Good video, I have a problem with oil in my reservoir tank on my 2006 2.0 L arc convertible. I did a CO test and zero exhaust in reservoir tank when car is running? Any suggestions
@@johnhackett138 on your coolant reservoir?
As a guy that has been driving and working on RWD Volvos all his life and just bought a cheap SAAB with a broken alternator, and having just watched this: I'm now considering just setting the damn thing on fire instead of attempting this brain surgary repair...
You think this is brain surgery repair? Jeez.
How many hp ? 200.. My Saab 9-3 is the vector versión and is 2.0
210 stock, 265ish with tune. Still feels like a slug imo
@@AutoAutopsy thank you
Cool thing is once you get used to working on transverse late 90s+ cars you're ready for anything else lol.
LOL
I just jack up the motor and get a breaker bar with the same size to break the tension on the belt
Jacking up the tensioner can be very sketchy though
Where can I find a stupid alternator for this car. I have checked every part store and they keep selling me the wrongs ones. Everything online is a 7 day shipping and I only have this car.
If you can’t wait for one to ship, you could probably have a shop refurbish the bad one
فيديو مفيد و لكن نحتاج مزيدا من التفاصيل
You are so damn rightرمضان على
Dude, you really need to get some power tools for that easy screwing :D
We have some, just don't really use them lol
Make a cheap Serpentine Belt tool --by buying a second-hand 3/4 ratchet and cut tinging it down with a cutting disk and adding a pair old mole grips for leverage ...almost free
Great tip!
Pulley-V-Belt...Belt tensioner
What?
That’s fiddly...but then there’s the 9-5 OG alternator r&r...SHEESH!!!! Completely buried under the oil trap on rear bottom of engine. Note to the wise: if you have 9-5 OG NEVEF EVER EVER drive through standing water. The alternator is as low to the ground as the brakes!!!
Haha, noted! Thanks
From someone who's replaced one, TWICE, I wholeheartedly stand behind this comment.
Gah, what a colossal pain in the ass!
Not really, lol
9-5 is much worse than that..
Music really annoying..
Sorry you don't like the selection!
This comment is annoying
I'm a big fan and liker BUT if u don't film removal process and reinstallation process this video is absolutely useless.
I was driving on a freeway i had a nissan back then i was like ...that's snarly ... Everything shut off no warning i took a deep breath and i hold the steering wheel cause it got hard same with the brake ..
My saab is a an 05...
You have to keep giving gas to the car to keep it on n press the break if your t the light
i'm not sure what you're asking
