Making puzzles as tedious as possible is peak puzzle design
Honestly the levels with different characters seem kinda fun if it doesn't just screw over one guy
How about making puzzles where people have to make puzzles as tedious as possible? (aka user-made levels)
making puzzles is puzzle design

That difficulty spiked straight to the stratosphere lmao
The solution to the last puzzle Tyler showed is actually quite simple and well-structured.

Every time I see Tyler play a new puzzle game, I’m always impressed with how the games always find a way to have a unique gimmick. At this point I expect games a decade from now being insanely complicated to keep it fresh.
At that point, then eventually some games might be able to do some classic puzzles, keeping it fresh by useing mechanics that may not have been done in a puzzle game in a long time
Catkook kinda hit the nail on the head with how I see it. I didn't enjoy the CoD games because I was "too used to FPS games" but that didn't stop them from still coming out, because a new generation of gamers new to the scene hadn't yet played as many FPS games as I had and hadn't seen it as "quant and cliche" yet. There will probably always be room for the classics, and sometimes a game will seem completely new and novel and fresh but just be a copy or clone of a game and idea that came out 20-30 years back.
I won't happen tho
it's really hard to make games and getting well paid also complex games have a nitche of playerbase
I mean seriously as beginner programmer I'm quite happy that I could make a character move lol
but on flip side you could copy and paste leetcode problems and make it insanely complicated lmao
This reminds me of what we do in all of the Frozen Throne custom TD multiplayer maps. You make the path as long as possible and even try to design it so that they are in range in most of the towers to maximize the dps. You can also send your own troops. It's pretty fun to play with friends. It's pretty much Bloons but as you know Bloons already have a path made for them.
Yup, making good mazes was quite critical for some TD maps, it was quite fun concept.
kodo tag and TTW does that
Legion TD
It doesn't really matter what maps they were, because there's too many I've played and there's still endless amounts of maps I haven't even downloaded.
Do yall still plays frozen throne? I'm looking for some gaming buddies
Love the art style, looks like some game you'd play at the computer lab that they cobbled together with whatever assets they could get their hands on
Im assuming this was made for the GMTK gamejam last week, so it probably was cobbled together with whatever assets they could get their hands on. Only 48 hours to make a game with the theme 'roles reversed'.
@@chrisgarrett6305 it actually wasn't. there were several videos on it prior to last week.
@@asdfsdfghjkjkl oh, fair enough.
@@asdfsdfghjkjkl It's funny that it fits the theme for this year's GMTK, "Roles Reversed"
@@asdfsdfghjkjklwhat a coincidence! Definitely assumed it was a GMTK entry given that the title implied that the roles were reversed, but it makes sense. I have no idea how anybody could make levels that complex in 48 hours.
I think this game needs a tile counter to let you know many tiles long your track is without pressing play, and to let you know how many tiles you need to get all 3 carrots
i think not telling you how long the track needs to be is part of the puzzle of this game. If you knew how long it needed to be, it would just be a matter of finding a way to fit said length of path on the track
i think that would make it too easy.
it would be better if it only told you the amount of tiles for the next carrot, so to see how many you need for 3 carrots you would already need 2 carrots
I’m glad this goofy game is getting more recognition.
This just feels like the Minecraft tower defender where you make your own path so you just make it as long as possible
*Minecraft you say*
@@GarrettHoward22please contain yourself
I remember a tower defense game like this on mobile, except the walls were towers, so you're shaping the path while defending at the same time
@@WanderTheNomad mindustry maybe?
@@yeetland1 nah, it was a pretty small map. I'm looking up mindustry and the map looks relatively big.
Edited by Frazzz? hello new editor, very excited to see how you put Tyler's face into other games
Yooo new editor just dropped
Hi :P I hope you enjoy my edits along with the rest of the team! Its great to be onboard! =D
what a simple coregame, but so much possibilities... this went from 1 to 100 fast
Would be cool if the full version has even more intricate elements - ice tiles, pushable blocks, switches that need to be held down by staying on them, conveyor belts...
The full version will have most of those things :)
@@SmartAIGames Sweet! Definitely a level editor too :)
@@fadeleaf845 And a level editor too :)
The cucumber is also called the rogue character
I am so happy I can just watch this video and don't have to think about figuring this all out by myself!
Time for my nightly aliensrock video, I’m very excited
the trailer. lasers. more veggies. wonderful. cant wait for release.
Thank you Tyler for making the puzzle
I hope this turns into a series
When the full game releases, it probably will!
hye tyler could you provide a link of some kind to the demo, as I looked it up on steam and only found the game itself, and when I clicked on that there was no demo to try.
Would love to see more of this one
I was waiting for this game!
we need this as a series aliensrock
I watched a video about this a bit ago, glad this game is being featured here
this looks like it could be a really fun puzzle game, im exited for its release!
Wow, this really is a very interesting premise for a puzzle game. That last puzzle was especially interesting, as I've seen a bundle of comments suggesting minor modifications to increase the path length (I haven't been able to verify them all myself, but the game lo), but I managed to find a completely different 37 length design. I wonder just how long it took the devs (dev?) to design the levels such that the most triple carrot solution is the most optimised solution. Very cool game. I am very interested in both watching and playing the full release.
I am glad you liked the game. (I am the dev who designs the levels btw). It does take a lot of time to design levels for this game because there is no way to verify that the solution is optimal (or even nearly optimal) for more difficult levels. So it is easy to sink hours into trying to improve a solution when you don't even know whether it can be improved. It is quite fun though! And you slowly get better at finding the optimal designs.
BTW, the full game is going to support user-made levels, so you can experience this as well [evil bunny emoji].
Heh very cool game you made. I wonder though, are 3 carrots only supposed to be given out for a perfect solution? Or is there supposed to be a bit of lenience?
@@ymiros0953 Thanks! There is some lenience in later/harder levels. Tyler didn't get to those :)
@@SmartAIGamessuch a cool game idea, it also somehow feels both high quality and like a shitpost at the same time, good job
The pathfinding in this game is insane.
Thanks!
I like this logo on the end. Pretty amazing work on whoever did it
For that last level, that first design you did would have worked, but you should have put a one-block wall in front of the path to the right so the Wizard would have had to go to the right carrot
Spoilers :)
Shoot, they turned Veggie Tales into a puzzle game.
EDIT: Dangit, Tyler made the joke too. That's what I get for writing comments mid video.
This is a super cool game! I really hope you play more but it also seems like you might have to just accept two carrots sometimes instead of just playing the same level over and over😅
Anyway I had fun watching! You have great videos and probably know more about making videos than me so feel free to ignore the suggestion
Nice! Time for my daily midday aliensrock video!
I was totally expecting at the end when he said "it's been Veggietales" for something like the "what we have learned" jingle to happen or for him to quote what they say at the end (at least of the originals because I ain't sure if they still say it).
Tyler knows how to make the hardest puzzles because he's played the hardest puzzles.
Oh yeah, first saw it at Icely puzzles, cool game
I really like this game
Nice, I found the game Diablo 4 dungeons designers were playing all along
The solution at 13:00 is correct, he just needs to add a wall to block the wizards teleport at the top on the final move so he has to get the carrot from the bottom instead
Yeahhhh
This game is actually really cool
I like watching different people play the same puzzle game to see howthey attack it differently, even if there's only one way to solve
Reminds me of when I made a couple exceedingly hard Sudoku puzzles... good times.
Okay the art is fucking hilarious
This looks awesome
I wouldn’t figure this out at all, but on Tyler’s 35 attempt, if you added a wall at r4c2 (from the top) and deleted the wall at r6c1, that wins right? Since the mage goes top left but can’t go across, so it has to go down and tp up, probably gets you the last remaining carrot
Tylers solution: walk left 3+walk up 3 + tp 1 + walk left 1 + walk up 3 =11 moves
Your solution: walk left 3 +walk up 1 + tp 1 + walk left 1 + tp 1 + walk up 3 = 10 moves
I dont think it works? I think you can make it work by moving the r6c5 block one to the left, making the mage unable to teleport into r6c2
Making the mage take longer doesn't change anything though, he only starts moving at turn like 24 cuz he doesn't have to go any earlier, so unless you make him take 24 more turns all that will do is make the mage start walking earlier
The graphics make me think of a restaurant that doesn't look great but has amazing food
This game is amazing, a bunch of ways to get a solution and it gets really hard once you mix up the mechanics
watched icely playing this, can't wait to watch Tyler play it
hi icely if you're reading this
chess fight next
This is a fun game!
it's not really a reverse puzzle game, but it is rather good.
this reminds me of the flash minecraft tower defense games, where you could create the paths before placing the towers
Ooh nice, a puzzle game with an element in common with tower defense games.
Holy crap this game looks like a biiig fun challenge
2:48 xD thx i was missing that.
I really like this game, but it shows what Tyler said recently. Too many games struggle from not great graphics. Vegetables are fine, I like 'em, and the art style for the vegetables themselves are fine, it's just that the art feels slightly inconsistent, and the color usage feels weird. Having light shine through on the carrot and buttons is cool, but it just makes everything else feel cold. I love the idea of a fork being a pit, and the vegetables don't want to be skewered, but it took me a little bit to understand what it was trying to show. I didn't realize it was mimicking a spike pit, I thought it was just an obstacle that retracted. Great game, but even some minor graphic tweaks could go a long way.
oooo now you got me this looks fun
great video!
That last puzzle you were one wall tile off perfection before the "two hours later" edit. Just had to add a wall on the far right to make the cucumber go diagonally instead of straight
Me watching this video as quickly as possible so I can comment. Btw keep up the great work ❤
Tbh this would genuinely make a real tower defense game
mix this concept with tower defence and rogue like concepts:
Waves come endlessly until they destroy the city or you push them back all the way to their origin and defeat the final boss. Every wave you survive grants you meta currency you can use to unlock new defensive structures which the monsters will try to destroy on their way to the city. Some like shield generators are such good defnces that they'll take priority over everything else. The monsters completely change their attack path to go to the shield first ignoring the shielded weapon towers allong the way knowing that no attack can succeed until it's gone.
6:08 THE CARROT GOD
The only forks puzzle gives me ptsd but when you understand the solution you feel so smart
Hey Tyler - tried to check this out on Steam, but looks like it's only letting people add to wishlist - can't find a demo
same here
There is no public demo. Tyler got a key from the developer (us). Public demo will be available in October on Steam. Wishlist the game to get notified!
@@SmartAIGames Looks like a neat game and glad he got to show it off - mostly left this comment because he finished the video by telling people to go get the demo if they wanted to try to do better in the last level than he did
the fork can block the wizard when there is a wall behind it.
Holy shit how have I not even thought about this concept in my whole life
1:52 "tresoure"😂
They should definitely call it VeggieTrails.
This gotta be from the GMTK Game Jam "Reversed Roles"
That last block was pretty obvious, but I wouldn’t even be able to get to that point
Ah yes, my favorite puzzle game, "Oh if you're so fucking clever why don't you set the fucking puzzle?"
12:50 combination made the wizard potato go through a carrot without picking it up
At the final one use the 14:00 design but fill in three north, two west because mage uses it as a short cut
Well, this tile-based puzzle definitely needs a good tiler to beat it
Reminds me of sanctum !
Haven't played that in a while, it used to be my favorite game!
You should look it up
I've seen this game before in a video but I love your videos Tyler and I may be slightly drunk. Still great video
Literally open level tower defense but we're still waiting for the features at 7:34
This looks like Sweet Dreams Alex.
13:59 you forgot to complete that bottom diagonal for the cucumber to go one extra, stoobid
bro you aint even as smart as him
this has been veggie tales
This game seems real fun, but I would probably rage alot😅
We need a mode where WE are the veggies and complete comunnity levels as fast as pissible
Two more diagonals for the last puzzle, you were close
I looked on steam and I don't see any sign of a demo. Where can I find it?
For the last one, wouldn't it work by boxing the cucumber in?
The wizard can teleport over walls, making the level still possible, and you'd not have to worry about the cucumber at all
fun. where did you get the demo? Steam and Itch io does not show it.
We (the developer) provided Tyler with a key. Public demo will be available in October on Steam. Wishlist to get notified!
Bro, you gonna look like oompa loompa by the end of this playthrough
4:20 editor back with the trolling
Ahem.... Bugs is a good soul :P
Cool
is there a part 2?

Yes, I like the video in the first 5 seconds
The repeated zooms are some bug from my cellphone or they are part of the video?

i keep thinking that with the warrior you could make some really bad parity puzzles
I'm getting gaslit by UA-cam! This is the 5th "new" video this week that I swear I've seen before!

This game in its core is very similar to sweet dreams Alex made by baumi.
