German Air Force Officers Having A Blast In KC-135 Refueling Simulator

- German Air Force officers boarded a U.S. Air Force KC-135 mid-air refueling aircraft where they got to ride along during a refueling mission with the Iowa National Guard's 185th Air Refueling Wing.
During the flight they crawled in the back of the aircraft in order to witness a mid-air refueling of F-16 fighter aircraft.
Following the flight they were allowed to take the helm in a KC-135 refueling simulator, where they practiced refueling while safely on the ground.
As part of the Defense Military Reserve Exchange Program, officers from various NATO member states come to the United States to get first had look at how military reserve organizations in the U.S. operate.

About 40 years ago I was in the USAF and rode Space Available back from Hickam AFB in Hawaii to March AFB in California on an empty KC-135. I was lucky to get this ride as I was on leave and didn't take my uniform with me; I'd ridden out on a MAC flight which didn't require a uniform but KC-135s, as part of SAC at the time, generally required active duty members to wear a uniform to ride Space-A. The aircraft commander let me ride anyway, and I was freezing, not having taken a jacket. Those of you who've ridden Space-A know it can get pretty cold. They let me lay down in the boom operator's area which was like a padded bench with tank controls. Problem is that the coldest air was pooled at the lowest point of the plane, which was right there. I stayed as long as I could stand it, as there is a view out to the left and right of the boom. Nothing but ocean but still very unique. It was a great and relatively unique experience!

I worked on KC-135’s back in the day. Great plane. Brings back memories.
An old airframe design too. I believe some of them might be approaching 100 years of age by the time they are finally retired. In itself, that says so much about how well they were designed.
When I was a young kid our YMCA bus group went to grissom Air Force Base and got to sit inside of the boom operator seat on a KC 135 while it was sitting on the ground we also got to see F4 phantoms do low level flybys and at that time I believe grissomer for space was still a sack base strategic Air command but I'll never forget that as long as I live it was the coolest thing ever and you guys have the greatest job in the world.

i got to play with a sim once when i was doing my two weeks in the guard. lol i scratch the shit out of an f-22. i was just slamming the boom on the jet trying to spell my name on the sheet metal :D

I agree, she is typically naive. Anyone in the german military is naive. The tragedy is that they do not know it and think they are employed to secure peace and order. It's a waste of time because to this day they are only allowed to deal with bad branches and not the root. But is there any military from any country in the world that can solve greed, malice and lawlessness?
I don't know too much about the american military, I am just thankful that they saved my country from tyranny 75 years ago. I am german of origin

lostplace11 because they aren’t in command and control of the aircraft and foreign rank has no significance. Also to avoid confusion on who is the OIC.

I've seen enlisted borrow flight suits for incentive rides and the officer rank gets taped over so there's no perception of impersonation of an officer and thus no customs or courtesies extended (salutes, called sir/ma'am etc). I'll bet dollars to donuts she's using a borrowed flight suit (perhaps that of the female co-pilot) so the rank was covered so she won't be wearing the rank of an American USAF officer.They're all wearing US flight suits. If you notice the male had a major oak leaf on his name tag to indicate to the Americans what his rank in the German AF is equivalent to.

No, my wife is a GAF A400M pilot and does air to air refueling all the time. Its nothing new and by the way the Luftwaffe and USAF are part of the coalition forces and work side by side a lot of the time.

Great Air Force from Pakistan
They're training on a real KC-135 and not a simulator.
For the first part of the flight they are on actual incentive flight conducting AR for F-16s. The very end shows them in the BOSS simulator where the one female is being instructed to bring in a B-1.
keep watching past the intro and you see the simulator enjoyment

The German military are good people, sadly they have no equipment. Aircraft. The German and other euro governments would rather spend their military spending on home made, home grown equipment which is poor quality. German, euro built fighter aircraft are nearly all grounded due to poor performance and maintenance. Canada, Norway, Denmark and others that fly US built aircraft have much better readiness. US Air Force parts and maintenance is everywhere in the World, easy to keep yours flying too.

in the plane situation you could be right as to now, but only because there isnt given money to thoses projects. in terms of handheld weapons, tanks, drones and all kind of other things where money acutally is spend to develope further, german products outrange foreign by far. would that country spend real money on the other branches, like bigger ships, planes or bigger helicopters, it would own these branches too, probably
