I saw a video that showed the Archer can drive up, set up, fire 3 rounds, then pack up and drive off BEFORE any of the rounds have hit the target. It's difficult to hit something thats already gone before you know it's firing at you.
It's almost surreal seeing the British MoD making good, even great purchases. The KS-1, Archer, the Boxer... it's baffling. I never thought it possible.
Personally after the RCH comes into service I would give the Archer system to 29 as they spend alot of time in Norway .as an ex AMFL Gunner I know how awkward it is to use the 118 especially in places like juerkin think of Otterburn with snow and frozen bogs . But the Archer system is made for that kind of terrain after all it's just across the boarder . They of course keep the 118 for there non artic operation they could keep the Archers in Norway Lavanger would be a good place it's camp is about five miles out of town the docks can handle RR ships and LSLs also the camp has its owen rail head for onward shipping this was one of my favourite camps in Norway
Good bit of kit. I’m sure it’s does motivate take conventional 155 shells. So the chance of getting any M series 155 shells from our American cousins is a non starter. However 1 gun can provide the effect of a 6 gun battery as it can fire 6 rounds at different hearings and elevation allowing them to hit at the same time. Big firepower effect. Shame it can’t drive on public roads though
I 100% agree with you. I love military history and the british longbows were extremely feared around the medieval world. Yep. I think they need to keep that name going for British military tradition’s sake.
The first thing i recognized is, that only the front window got a wiper. Its snowy in Sweden and rainy in the UK. Wouldnt harm to add a wiper to the left and right window also.

Ok...go for the Boxer RCH...german stuff is good but not as Swedish equipment. Archer is built for arctic forest terrain with swedish quality. It will also work in sub-zero temperature...try that with your Boxers!

I am a bit puzzled as to why we're adopting Archer which appears to be a very good system only as a stop gap and then replacing it with the Boxer variant. Seems like an odd thing to do. I'd have just gone with Archer in that case.
@@AlexKall Well a quick wiki search tells me that the boxer can hold 30 rounds to the archer's 21, which if true makes it a very good choice. Especially since we're already going with Boxer anyway in other variants so logistics commonality will be a big plus. But yeah it wobbles like a bobblehead when it fires, it could do with some outriggers, and it looks like someone put a boulder on the back of a chihuahua. I don't like it lol. Mind you Archer looks like it should be sitting on in it's rear end with the cab stuck 20 feet into the air with that huge overhang and skinny midsection as well so it looks like either way I'm going to be driven nuts aesthetically 😂
While the UK donate 30 year old artillery systems Sweden donated Archers to Ukraine and the UK is now learning how to use them while Ukrine are using them in battle..
Not sure what your point is. The UK donated what they had, which was 30 year old units. These were a decent upgrade on the Soviet era weaponry they were using previously, and had at least experienced action in previous wars, so were battle proven and very accurate. You won't find an argument from me that the British army needs better kit, or that it's a shame that Britain can't even manufacture weapons to equip itself any longer, but what it donated wasn't rubbish, and having donated these weapons to Ukraine, the Army had to replace them.

I know I'm biased here, but why not just keep the Archers instead of moving on to that Boxer thing that looks like it'll flip over backwards when shooting? The British are gonna miss out on having famous archers again :D
I really thought the Archer proposal was gonna be the full replacement but hopefully we get the other 10 too, its a great system, that being said im sure the Boxer RCH 155 also very capable, id be interested to know how many we're getting and when.
The army has selected Boxer. These are an.interim purchase. Hopefully we'll keep these too, maybe use to support the RM given the Swedes apparently designed them to have a secondary anti litoral shipping mode.
If this is Salisbury Plaine I live in Devizes and our house vibrates every time those AS90 fire. So havant heard much lately so these Swedish units must have less concussion

They’re an ‘interim solution’ as they were readily available to be procured at short notice as a quick replacement for the donated AS90s, Boxer RCH155 will eventually be the permanent replacement for the AS90.
The Archer project turned out okay in the end? I heard Sweden had problems during development just like in every military procurement program that ever existed.
The Archer SPG has proven itself in Ukraine in real combat conditions what better criteria do you need to select the Archer over anything else including the CAESAR.
The ukraines use it for counter battery. Set up, fire a few shells and get away in less than a minute, even before the shells hit their target. The only way to get this is if you find it with an FPV drone. Ukraine has dubbed it "sniper of artillery" since you often hit your target on the first shot.

Archer is placed and operated during the harshest conditions possible and has so far not been less mobile than tracked SPG's. The Volvo Duper Chssies are insanely mobile and do often as well or better than tracked systems in the forest and marshes in Northen Sweden.
BS. The wheeled version Archer is based on has been used for decades in construction and mining. It have proved itself in almost all types of terrain. It works very well off-road and needs less maintenence than a tracked version. Many versions of equipment for forest management use this chassi out in the woods.
Still not fully convinced by it myself great for shoot & scoot no doubt it will be great on good terrain but still not fully convinced it would get where you might need it in theatre of war. Same as boxer RCH 155 think it will be a great vehicle but can it get through snow, can it get over trenches etc. It’s no good if you can’t get it where you need it. A option could be to look at the getting a few of the tracked version of boxer which you could swap modules then you get the best of both worlds
Why bother, we're not going to have an army much longer anyway, there's a NATO strategic concept plan that tells members to specialize their contribution. Ours is going to be Nuclear, space, cyber and drone warfair, apparently.

Is it normal for the treads on the front tyres to go the opposite way to those on the rear. Both are ' V ' grooved for mud traction and self cleaning

We had troops testing out Caeser & the VBCI at one stage. We decided on the Boxer instead.
