  • Hi folks, I'm calling this "Jazz Metal Swing." It's another clip from my double bass noodling. I'm just improvising and playing around. I thought this was an interesting concept. A kind of jazz ride, swingy type feel with double bass fills and madness. Moosh it together. See what you think...The Mapex final review is coming up and some more drumming with music. Leave your thoughts, comments, suggestions. Like, sub and all that. leave a tip in the jar by clicking the link on the home page. Enjoy! Thank you. Jonathan

man. the way you integrate the double kick in the fills is so awesome! I myself have been struggling on this, any tips?

Thanks!! There is a fair amount of triplets in here. So that old combo of 'hand, foot foot' or RKK/LKK or right and left together (snare cymbal) +KK. 16ths as RLKK or various combinations. You could work on those basic stickings and practice transitioning from triplets to 16th notes. I also will add a double bass "pick up" before any fills. A bit like your hands where you might put a diddle at the front of fills... Put that diddle on the bass drum. I might make a short video of these few techniques which are very effective. I hope that helps... Thanks!
