Improvising Music To Improvised Drums
This is the process of improvising drums, first to a click, and then overdubbing the music. I don't recall what I was playing along to in my head at the time... It's a bit loose as the drums are fairly free form. Nothing is edited. I play the music in with the plastic midi keyboard using the free preset virtual instruments in Garage Band. It's improvisation. I don't make loops, I just play the same part for 10 or 15 min. Like a performance. For the audiophiles, the drums have a tiny bit of reverb on one microphone. Other than that they're completely dry, no EQ no nothing. Three microphones. I like what's come out of this one. It's got a very "Thank you very much, we love you, good night!" kind of vibe. Fast forward to 01:37 to hear the more "complete" idea, with a few melody lines and such.. Or at least an impression of an idea. The percussion is also impressionistic. I'm doing it all from behind the drums. It's nothing new. Maybe a slightly different approach though... Enjoy! Drummers get in touch. Leave your thoughts and comments. Thanks!! There is a fair amount of triplets in here. So that old combo of 'hand, foot foot' or RKK/LKK or right and left together (snare cymbal) +KK. 16ths as RLKK or various combinations. You could work on those basic stickings and practice transitioning from triplets to 16th notes. I also will add a double bass "pick up" before any fills. A bit like your hands where you might put a diddle at the front of fills... Put that diddle on the bass drum. I might make a short video of these few techniques which are very effective. I hope that helps... Thanks!

These are the only kit under 1,000 dollars I can compare to the Stage Customs. The PDP Maple are bad ass and Super Star classics as well, but these are just amazing when I played my buddies kit. Often compared to the stage customs even if they sound different.
Yeah! They belong amongst those other makers. They are great sounding drums that feel good and the price is excellent! There are some innovative features. I'm looking forward to hearing more drums from Mapex. Cheers.

The drum market varies depending on where in the world you are. This was a fair price for what was a near new drum set. It sold very quickly.

@@unicajamalaga2 I would go with the Stage Custom. Be aware, the Rock Tour is a lower grade to the Rock Tour Custom (1990 - 94) The Stage Custom "Advantage" is a lower grade to the Stage Custom and has different lugs. You can't really go wrong with Yamaha. Their drums are great value across all price points and deliver the quality we've come to expect from Yamaha. Whatever your budget, go with what feels good to you. Yamaha is a great choice! Cheers

@@unicajamalaga2 It's hard to say. I'm currently playing a Mapex Armory and I'm extremely impressed with the quality and sound of the drums at such an affordable price point. I feel Mapex has arrived at the party and are certainly worth considering. At this stage, Mapex still don't have a great re-sale value but I think that might change... I think it comes down to personal preference and which kit feels best for you. Both are great drum kits for the price.

This is absolutely astonashing. This is smoother than everything I have ever seen. This is mastering the musicality of a drumkit. Not that many famous drummers Can eventualy get close to that. Forget about speed ans power. This is music (reminds me of Andre Ceccarelli)

Hey thanks a million!!! I appreciate that. The drum are a 2024 Mapex Armory 6 Piece in fast tom sizes. There's an 'out of the box' video in the gear reviews playlist. This kit still has the factory UX Remo heads. I've got a set of Evans UV1's to go on so that should improve the sound a little more! I'm very impressed with this line of Mapex drums.
