  • Roman dodecahedra are a curious phenomena, not many of them have been found and apart from the fact they are from the Roman period, they are dodecahedral, and made of bronze, nobody really knows all that much about their intended use (if any). Apart from ‪@Matt.Geevan‬
Well, that's not entirely true. Matt has a theory about what they are for, and while it is vastly better than the glove knitting one, it doesn't seem realistic to me. But that's not what this video is about. This video is about Matt's "evidence", and the research he clearly hasn't done. I'm making this video because I'm somehow blocked from commenting on his channel, I think this is a youtube issue caused by leaving links to research - Matt's not nuking criticism like some youtubers do - criticism much more vehement than mine is still up.
I would strongly suggest going to watch Matt's videos, particularly those covering his proposed usage for these objects - playlist here : • The Roman Dodecahedron
DO NOT go to Matt's channel and be rude. That's a shitty thing to do; if you do that, you can FOAD as far as I'm concerned.
Here's a link to the portable antiquities scheme, with a pre-loaded query for dodecahedra : finds.org.uk/d.... Other useful searches might involve "bronze", "fragment" and "knop" or "knob".
    Here's some useful google searchery : scholar.google...
    As well as : scholar.google...
If you're interested in how the Romans could possible have made these, remember that bronze was exceptionally well known (the "Bronze Age" started a thousand years before the foundation of Rome); both the Romans and the Greeks made anything and everything from it, and were spectacularly good at castings. They did have iron and even steel, but that was mostly reserved for tools. See centaur.readin... for example.
