Keep up the primo vids bro - Ka rawe e hoa :) (excellent my friend)
From memory the rotary gearbox had special ratios to suit the motor so well worth saving .It would also make the basis for a John Keanegenuine historic racer shell .

I actually can’t believe how far away the parts end up from the cars you find lol? Do various people start to strip them then every other person that comes along thinks they’ll drag the car somewhere to flip it up or down again for other parts? If only the bush could talk😜

Saw the Low Standards episode featuring this Mazda just a couple of weeks ago, Then you visited Guy over the ditch and he introduced me to your thing. This idea of 'matching a find to a builder' may have been accidental but it could work out to be of benefit to all, including the car.
Wow Dom I missed out on buying a Rx 3 ragtop coupe was blue and mint from a car sales here in nelson nz back in 1988 wanted $2495 buy the time I got back from the bank with money it was sold was only an HR or so sat in it with a sold sticker on window for the last time we were gutted , cheers, shaneo, nelson , 👍
here in UK, you could buy a conversion kit to put a ford motor in mazda rotaries, so that pinto lump may of been in that mazda, more research reqd to confirm, but best to bring it home with you just in case. rx8's are nearly finished over here now, just a few decent ones left even that pinto lump is getting scarce over here, used to be in every ford for sale, bar the fiesta, loved those engines, powerful, simple, reliable. sold a plastic air cleaner for a 2ltr. pinto cortina, [wiped the muck off it first, but still old junk] for £120 earlier this year - crazy prices over here at present. id be bringing that one home first, then doing the history bit whilst its in your yard, could be worth a few bob.
I bet the rotary engine blew it's seals in it's lifetime or something, and this RX3 was swapped with that Ford Pinto 2L sohc engine before it was dumped Would explain that non Mazda Air cleaner in it and ford alternator perhaps
@@dylanwilliams3807 I'm pretty sure only America got the Ford Pinto. I may be wrong, but the Ford 'Pinto' engine is probably unrelated to the usdm car of the same name. The Pinto engines are inline 4 SOHC 8 valve engines, in 1.3-2.0 L. Pretty sure they're made by Ford of Europe, and were used in basically every RWD ford of the 70s and after. Sierras, Taunus/Cortina, Transit, Granada's, Escorts etc. They were used and sold in AU too as they got several cars by Ford of Europe, such as the Escort.

Yep the front 1/2 of a red Holden...That wide rim looks like a wide HR wheel...Block look is a 2.0 Crotina/Escort OHC... Air cleaner is not from either the Maz or Cortina...Maz had a 4 barrel and the Ford had a 2bbl Webber...That one is from either a early Ford or Holden...Who scatters parts like that.?...
Spot on knowledge as always mate. A mate of mine identified the air cleaner next to the Mazda as a early Holden. The parts are always so scattered and random man. I once found a XY grill next to a 200B wagon.

Wow , this definitely needs to be saved . Very very little rust too , people repair things in way worse condition . Find a rusty car from a cold damp climate which will possibly have a great interior which isn’t sunburnt and you’re laughing 👍
I also watch Coldwarmotors on UA-cam from Canada , Scott said once that if you want good solid metal you go south to the hot climate , but for interior you go north to the cold , wet , snow climate . I totally understand what he said 👍
Bodywise the RX3 was basically a Mazda 808 with an improved nose, parts will be Very HARD too find nowadays! A rotary engine wreckers will have them, at a price of course. The 808 Mazda,s were BAD for RUST, thats why you do not see anymore.

Yes a relative of mine actually got charged for taking parts off a car that had been wrecked, assuming the car was just left to die in the bush for a long time 😢😢

@@ehpunka Mine had the same three holes machined into the steering wheel alloy. With a brown moulded plastic wheel. Might just be different variants. I think the RX3's came in Deluxe or Super Deluxe. I was told by a bloke at Penfold Mazda no one wanted the Auto's back in the day so Mazda made a lot of them Super Deluxe. To try and boost sales.

As an RX3 owner I can tell you there's still lots of very hard to get and unique-to-RX3 parts on that one.

That is a good theory as there is no ford near by that the engine could of come from.
Australia didn't get ford pintos so i don't think it had one of those engines. may have had something simmilar from a Aus market car.

I got a drone as well, yet to fully understand how to fly it lol. the first RX3's had a 10A, then from 74(?) on they had the 12b.

Abandoned does not mean a car is not owned, and if it is on private property then you have to get the permission to take it.

I think it’s had a Pinto conversion which makes me thin’ it was never owned by someone interested in cars
I got the Tamworth thing mixed up there was a Tamworth LN106 model which I owned but the interior was vinyl but that's as water proof as it got.
