    What an amazing find. Is this a big deal in the caving community as a whole? Do you think other cavers will travel there just to see it?

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Місяць тому +47

      Yes. We've found a few really nice big caves recently. So we submitted an article with photographs to the national caving magazine and got published. So this is now a nationally recognized find.
      Which is a pretty big deal for our little neck of the woods.
      It's a difficult cave to get into and dangerous to set up vertical lines. So I doubt it will get a lot of traffic currently. They'd have to be shown. In the future, we may be able to open up the entrance a bit more and then you will have plenty of takers since the vertical is so great. That's the real draw here is a cave where rope is required. Besides the fact that it's also an interesting and pretty cave

    I always respect cavers for they are doing unthinkable things that I would never ever do even in a dream. It requires such bravery and courage to enter into deeper parts of caves, navigating through tight holes, repalling down the unknown depths, come back alive. My salutes to these daredevils. Because of them, people like me could have a look into it, sitting in the comforts of my home.

    I think a remote control car with a camera on it would be useful to help you see what's around the bend.

    The vibrant colors? Fumorole activity?
    Maybe a direct vent to the magma chamber. This video shall be included in my rotation of favorites.

    You should get a tiny drone or RC car with a camera or something like that to explore tight places to see if they're worth climbing into, or to see what's beyond where it's possible for a person to go. Another thought is a cheap endoscope, they have ones for $30 in Amazon where it's just a tiny camera with a light on a 15 foot thin cord, it plugs into your smartphone and just works as if your phone has a third camera.

    I've always had a desire to walk into a cave. And I mean walk, and not drag my body through jagged rocks to see more jagged rocks.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Місяць тому +1

      The start of this cave is beautiful and you can walk right in for some distance. That's as far as anyone ever got until we weased our way through the bottom.

    Just came across your channel and I'm amazed at what you and the team do. I look forward to seeing and learning more through your videos. So many questions running through my mind, like how do you even breathe in these deep passages? What is the air quality like?

      Welcome to the dark frontier.
      We do answer some questions.
      The air is fine.
      People ask a lot so I assume there's some myth about bad oxygen underground or something. In real life, the oxygen is completely normal in a cave. *Just cold

    Well. I used to recoil at various cave exploration videos on UA-cam. But your editing and explanations make them much easier to watch. Daresay I find myself slightly interested in doing an exploration. Only with a proper guide of course. And maybe if I lose about 50 pounds 😅

    I'm trying to imagine the awe of just going around lava tubes expecting at most a modestly large room and you poke your head into pitch blackness as far as you can see. Maybe I can see the thrill of exploring unknown caves now :p

      It stands as the deepest vertical drop in our area, at the least. Lava tubes don't normally produce much vertical, so this is a real anomaly.
