- With the discontinuation of the Stanley no 80 cabinet scrapers the Kunz cabinet scraper is a viable alternative. However, out of the box it needs some help. In this video I modify and improve a stock Kunz no 80 cabinet scraper.

I bought one of these several ago and have never been able to make it work. I guess I should look around for better adjust screws with wings to make it quicker and easier to set up. But my main problem seems to be with the blade. I get it all sharpened and can use it out of the scraper but when I put it in the device it doesn't work. Another thing is the steel in the blade is really hard, so hard I cannot get it to bend at all and the screw is too small to add any real torque. Okay, having cried a bit your video has inspired me to give it another try.
Truth be told, I don't use this tool much. It really only gets used on big projects. It's better than it was, but I prefer using a card scraper.
First off awesome job! Second I’m glad to see you putting the metal lathe to some good use. Third I might need to invest in one of those because every time I use my scraper it kills both of my thumbs. Well thought out in beautifully executed. Make On my Friend

Hello Eric, would you recommend this scraper as a first? I live in LA so harder to find vintage ones and I've seen this kunz and the taytool one around same price range. The rockler one I've heard some bad things but seen they have gone on sale as well, thanks!
I'm not a huge fan of this one. Mine needed work to get it usable. I rarely reach for it. I prefer to use a card scraper.

Try the Can I Have It Group on Facebook. If you have an extra plane blade sitting around you can make a scraping plane.
@EricMeyerMaker I'll check that out thank you... But I do have a couple extra plane blades though🤔
