    Ha, I was part of the "other couple who left the apartment after about 20 minutes". The cheating fiance never changed, cheated on every boyfriend she had afterwards, and also took advantage/horribly mistreated her friends. The OP from Reddit is doing much better though, and we are still good friends :)

    In the second one, I would’ve just informed all the other bridesmaids that “Jessica” didn’t pay for any of the gifts, her ex-fiancé did. Just to show them what not only the cheating says about her, but also the fact that she’s demanding money that isn’t hers and lying about it to everyone

      Everybody was a fool to give her back those gifts. She cheated She gave them as gifts They were not returnable so she's giving them to other people or using them her self if she fits them. There was no excuse for them to return them They spent time and energy getting ready for the wedding and she messed it up. Then it turns out she didn't even spend the money on it It was the groom who got burned in the whole situation that ended up paying for them what a kind young man to not even out her that it wasn't her money that was spent on the wedding at all. ❤

    I've never understood the sentiment of "it's too late to cancel" a wedding. So, two wrongs are supposed to make a right??? You saddle yourself with a cheating partner because you don't want to deny others a party??? Excellent thinking. I've heard this as an excuse for years and not once has it made sense. Divorce would be just another big ticket item. Who'd marry someone because they can't get a deposit back, sheesh

    • @carmeltabby
      @carmeltabby 2 роки тому +85

      I absolutely agree. Especially for cheating. My mother told herself it was too late to cancel her wedding to my father when she saw him drunk for the first time, the night before their wedding.
      On the one hand, my sisters and I wouldn't have been born if she had cancelled the wedding. On the other hand, we wouldn't have had to grow up listening to them screaming at each other about his drinking. And our family wouldn't have been splintered by divorce and daughters picking which parent they preferred to live with 18 years later. If you're at all uncertain....don't get married.

      I vividly remember one important moment of my wedding. I was at the venue. All of the guests had been seated and I was alone for the first time in days waiting until it was time for me to walk down the aisle. One thought kept going through my head, RUN. Of course, I went through with it. My parents had spent thousands of dollars and there were 150 people waiting. I convinced myself it was just nerves. 5 years and 2 daughters later we got a divorce. I can’t regret marrying him, because of my girls, however, I have told them both this story. I promised them if they ever decide to marry that if they want to cancel at any moment before saying “I do” it is fine. I will completely support their opinion. Though I understand why people feel pressured to go through with it, I will always recommend they cut and RUN.

    There was a case here in Australia 20 plus years ago that the local radio station ran, where the bride was cheating with the best man, one of the other groomsmen found out and spoke to the groom. This was a week before the wedding, big wedding guests from interstate, all paid for by her father. Instead of confronting her the groomsman and groom filmed these 2 in the act. Day comes, the wedding goes ahead, their at the reception and the groom gets up to speak, thanks everyone for coming, then says that if they reach under their chairs there’s something for them. Everyone other than the bride and best man, pull open the packet WOW photo’s dates time etc.
    Announces he will be annulling the marriage, and that he is off on the honeymoon trip, forget where but overseas, with the groomsman who alerted him. Was relating this to a guy at work, turns out his sister was a guest, and he reckons the fallout was nuclear, including her father demanding all costs back from his daughter I think. The photo’s were excellent quality.

      If she had been cheating _for a while_ then his behaviour would've been justified, but alcohol literally *shuts off* the part of our brain that is responsible for rational decisions and she could've just decided to sleep with that guy cause her man left the house and thus was unavailable to her.
      Not saying that he should've accepted that, just that he should've taken that into consideration.
      Also, leaving two drunk people alone in a house, no matter what age they are, and no matter how long, is a recipie for disaster.

      My GF once kicked a drunk guy in the nuts so hard an ambulance (and the cops) had to be called for him. He'd grabbed her tits a couple of times and tried to kiss her and generally force himself on her. He was very drunk, and there was a few of us who tried repeatedly to tell him to knock it off so he was well warned but he kept at it and things were getting heated. A friend and I were about to take matters into our own hands when she just went whack and down he went. At first the cops didn't believe it was her who had done it, but the bar staff backed up our account of events and the cops chose not to take any action. The lady cop even looked like she was a tiny bit impressed by my GF. I kinda felt sorry for the guy, he didn't hurt her in any way really, the whole thing was a bit pathetic and my GF wasn't really phased but he was going to wake up in hospital the next morning in a world of pain and probably not even remember any of it. The karmic value of rough justice when you don't even remember what you did is certainly up for debate, but it is what it is. He was given multiple opportunities to stop.
      As for the fella in the story, well, I strongly doubt the cops would have done anything apart from issue a warning. He certainly would not go to jail. That's just a crazy overreaction. Alcohol makes you do things you normally wouldn't. That's not an excuse or a justification, merely a statement of fact, and a good cop will take that into account most of the time if no one is hurt long term.

Rick ran off before anything happened.
    2. Barb is a borderline alcoholic still living with her parents & working dead-end job.
    3. Years later Rick sought him out to apologize & make amends. Told him the whole story. Basically they'd been banging half their relationship. Guess Rick didn't do so well for himself either but was in therapy, taking responsibility for his life & doing better. You're not wrong. I want my wedding to be a fairytale but not a tacky, gaudy, expensive one. A simple ceremony with my mom and uncle, and my boyfriend's parents, siblings, nan, and grandpa would be perfect. I'd love for us to have an outdoor ceremony but I just don't think it's realistic because you just never know WHAT the weather's going to do. So an indoor ceremony decorated to look like a magical nature paradise would be perfect. And the reception? We're not party animals so as long as we can dance and the food is delicious we have enough to be satisfied. I just want him and the people who matter.

It is the relationship version of suicide by cop.

    I learned the hard way about cheaters. When I was planning my wedding to my ex, his ex showed up drunk. We were on the porch and he acted like he couldn't stand her being there. I had to go down the street for something and was only gone about 10 minutes (won't bore you with the whole night's story). Police notified me that they had sex in my bed. I forgave him, cause I thought that was the right thing to do. Several years later, found out he was telling a lot of girls that we were separated and had been sleeping with countless girls, our entire marriage. Moral of the story? Don't let anybody make you feel like you're not good enough. Move on.

    Yes part 2 of the dumpster fire bride please! Reminds me of my former close friend from high school. She got knocked up by her high school sweetheart.. they moved into a rental home together and had their first kid. When she got knocked up with baby number two, he eventually decided it was time to tie the knot. Almost no one came to their wedding because he was such a jerk and made her friends and family very uncomfortable, so it was just her and a few friends in a super-casual exchange of vows ceremony. However, when that second kid was born, it was clear the kid looked NOTHING like her husband. It eventually came out kid number 2 was conceived with someone else. But they stayed together under the same roof for 9 more years. He hounded her over and over again to get her tubes tied because he didn't want anymore kids. She eventually did... but then LEFT him right after in an epic thing where she abandoned her two kids in the middle of the night and fled in the family car with all of the stimulus money as soon as the check arrived. She made it halfway across the country with some dude she picked up along the way, then crashed the minivan and abandoned him too. She not only never came back, she married someone else in a different state somehow .. and then her first husband also married someone else here . SOMEHOW. So ... whatever?

    Storytime: My mum actually caught my dad cheating 2days before the wedding (she found this out during the rehearsal) when she got home she started packing her bags and called her mom and aunt (father's side). Her aunt put her clothes back in the drawers and my grandmother said "we have invested so much into this wedding for you to cancel two days before. Now you're going to get married tomorrow whether you like not". Believe it or not, my mom did get married, 9 years later however they got divorced because my dad continuously cheated on her throughout the relationship. Yes this is a common thing in my country (some mothers have told their daughters to either get married or go back to their cheating, abusive and downright toxic husbands. There was even a play about it too)

      @@marylesperance8859 Your English is great! I had no problem understanding your story. I'm just sorry it happened to you and your mom.
      It happens here in the states too, especially in very traditional Southern families who are very religious. I had relatives who were cheating scumbags, but their wives stuck with them out of "tradition". One was a minister, two were deacons at their church!
      One was a pedophile who molested several of my cousins. I was warned about him, but told that "we don't talk about Uncle Bill, he's too important to the church and has a great job, think what it would do to his wife!".
      When I was 12, he came to visit. He walked in my room, tackled me and pinned me down on my bed and started to grope me. I yelled loud as I could, "GET OFF ME!!" My dad came running in, Unc. Bill said "We were just playing!", I said, "NO! We weren't!" while glaring angrily at him. Dad took me to a friends house to spend the night. When I came home, Uncle Bill and his wife had left and never visited again. It was never spoken about, as if it never happened.
      He wrote Gospel music, some of which is probably still sung in Baptist churches. I wonder if the choir would care about what kind of person he was? If Heaven is filled with people like him, then send me to the Other Place so I can hang out with scientists and other "non-believers".

      RIGHT! I moved 1500 miles to marry my ex, spent 15 miserable years with him because I felt like I had to make it work after I sold my house in Texas, left my family, and relocated to a strange place.
      He left me stranded with no vehicle after 16 years together, 15 years married. He moved in with his "ex-girlfriend" whom he had never stopped seeing. I had long suspected she was his side chick, but I think there were others besides her.
      He left because I got sick and had brain surgery, he told me "I'm not sticking around to wipe your a$$". He also complained to anyone who would listen that I was a lousy wife because I "didn't put out".
      He spent most of my inheritance from my parents on toys, such as a motorhome, motorcycles and quad, a 4 WD Suzuki Samuirai, and a backhoe. ALL of these he let go to ruin because he didn't have "time" to fix them after he broke them.
      I had just enough left to spend @ $20,000 on a very good attorney. Our divorce took 3 years because he made it way more difficult than it should have been. All that was not lost on the judge. Not only did I get to keep the ranch (I bought the 20 acre property, paid for all improvements, and downpayment on manufactured home) I also get $1400 a month in alimony until he dies.
      This fellow who lost $20,000 on a wedding that didn't happen should thank his lucky stars he didn't marry her!
      BTW, the moment our divorce was final, he dumped his girlfriend of 30 years (again) and married a woman he'd just met. I wonder if she knows she's his fifth wife?

    We seem to have reached a stage where weddings where you look good for a day, have become more important than marriages where you give a life long commitment. If you tell me this is a boomer attitude I’m proud to be a boomer.

    • @karencotlar2023
      @karencotlar2023 2 роки тому +8

      I’m not a boomer, but I completely agree with you. Weddings shouldn’t be about having a massively, ridiculously expensive party. A wedding should be about sharing your joy with those closest to you as you start your new lives together.

    • @h0pesheart

      I honestly would prefer to elope with my partner than worry about spending thousands of dollars on dresses, food, etc for one day.

    • @LazyIRanch
      @LazyIRanch 2 роки тому +4

      Fellow Boomer here, and I agree! I was raised by parents who grew up during the Depression, Dad on a farm where he did the same work as the hired field hands, and he grew up playing and being friends with their children. He taught me to work hard, appreciate what you have, and respect and be kind to everyone, no matter race or religion.
      My mom and her many siblings were orphaned in 1932, she was eleven and went to an orphanage. She was lucky her father was a Mason, so she went to a Masonic orphanage with most of her siblings. She was taught to make all her own clothes, but also secretarial skills so she landed good jobs when she left the home. When she met my dad, he was a young engineer, she was in the secretarial pool. She owned her own home she bought herself through hard work and saving pennies. Their wedding was nice, but very modest compared to nowadays.
      I've been married twice (never again!) and both were Justice of the Peace "quickies". The most expensive one cost a total of $175, including the marriage licence! I'd rather save money for more important things, like a house and education.
      I don't see going into years of debt for a one-day party.

    • @alisalaska1786
      @alisalaska1786 2 роки тому +2

      I disagree. These are extreme stories, not common. I don’t know anyone, personally, who prioritized a wedding over marriage. I rarely even see any bridezillas as a bridal seamstress myself. It’s just the internet exists to spread crazy instances now.

    • @LazyIRanch
      @LazyIRanch 2 роки тому +2

      @@alisalaska1786 OP's comment said NOTHING about bridezillas. We are merely talking about the trend of spending thousands of $$ on one day, especially if the couple is not wealthy and it puts them in to debt for years. This has become far too common. If one can afford an extravagant wedding, go for it, but no one should be expected to overspend just to "look good for a day" as OP said. That is what we are agreeing about.
      I used to do custom sewing myself, and made bridesmaid's gowns for two weddings, I decided not to take anymore bridal orders after that. My clients weren't bridezillas, but I lost money on those jobs. Dresses were made a few months before wedding, but a few days before the weddings, several bridesmaids needed emergency alterations because they gained weight (or became pregnant). I was expected to postpone my other clients and do these alterations for free, since they already paid they didn't understand that I needed to be paid for the extra time spent.

    I do have a comment on “once a cheater, always a cheater”. Although I did cheat on my 1st husband (he did it first, and I divorced him after many years of having to support his butt, as well as our 3 kids, while he wandered from job to job).
    I met my 2nd husband while still married. He was 12 years younger than me, and we were married as soon as my divorce was final. We’re coming up on our 32 year of marriage, with no cheating.

    • @ebonymarieblack1530
      @ebonymarieblack1530 2 роки тому +20

      Thank you! I genuinely hate the phrase "once a cheater, always a cheater". Obviously there are people who this saying does pertain to but that doesn't mean everyone who has ever cheated will continue to do so. People make stupid choices all the time, then they grow up and learn from it. I cheated on a bf I had in high school when I was 17. I realized how horrible my actions were very shortly after doing this and quite honestly I still feel horrible for having did what I did years later. I even reached out to him on social media to apologize approximately 5 years after this occured. I am now about to be 33 and I have never cheated on anyone since that 1 time in high school. I have been through numerous crappy relationships (mental, emotional, physical abuse, being cheated on constantly, etc) and even though I have had many opportunities to cheat I have never done it again.
      It's called growing up and maturing. You don't hear people say stuff like, "once financially irresponsible, always financially irresponsible" or "once a liar, always a liar". Its just kinda bs that anyone who has cheated gets looked at like that is a part of their personality trait and will never be able to change their behavior.

    Only one thing was going through my mind during that last story...
    Contraceptives exist for a reason, "Jessica". I realize that apparently she's from a super-conservative and probably religious family, but it feels like so much of this could've easily been avoided by some form of birth control and/or condoms.
    But, y'know...Occam's Razor and all that. Would've been too easy.

    • @OffbeatWorlds

      I don't think religion was the reason she chose not to use the contraceptives while engaging in premarital sex, cheating and an extra-marital affair. 😂🙈😂😂
      I mean if she is happy I guess then that's good for her... But boy will the family meets, if any, are gonna be colourful

      @@OffbeatWorlds They are close to 100% if used properly; and almost 100% if paired with another. Problem is many people do not know how to do so correctly (skip a day or two in oral contraceptives and/or not take them around the same time every day as directed) and end up with unfortunate, avoidable consequences for them and the unborn baby.
