  • everyone should be fortunate enough to hear the minute by minute description of these two days by my dad... he had realized he only had 4 minutes left to his life as he knew it, 4 minutes left of pain... in 4 minutes he would have the gold but after all that work he realized in 4minutes he had a shot at history and the record books... so he let his feet go and forgot all about his game plan...
I always wonder about this 4 minutes... would I be here writing about it if he hadn't laid it all out? would I have been born in Malibu CA or San Jose CA? would my dad still be selling insurance like most Olympians do after winning gold? would you even know who "the Kardashians" are?
    I honestly dont think so...

76 was the year I graduated from high school and I watched this event live at a sports bar. Bruce Jenner inspired me to give up drugs and train like the way I did before a bike accident two years prior. I never had any Olympic delusions but manged to do a 4:12 mile, bench press 245, and swim 100m under water, 34 minute 10K. Not bad for someone who wiegh 152lbs. Thanks for sharing this Bruce Jenner will always be one of my heros... Sincerly Wildman

Crossing that finish line had to be the best feeling. Bruce Jenner had that looked like he was even more focus and determined. Jenner had that same look when he cross the 400 meter mark all the way on to the to 1500 finish. When people say fatigue make cowards out of us, it is so true. He feared nothing that day. We all have looked at old pictures or film of ourselves from the past with the thought that the person we see seem like someone else, introspectively speaking, we actually do change a bit with life experience we gather throughout our days on this earth to form the person we are at the time each of us call current. I honestly do think most people do change for the better; more importantly, Life can be a beautiful thing when you focus on the positive.

I sure remember those races. My family had rented a home from the Crownovers. Burt your Aunt Carla was my sister Faith's close friend in high school and my sister was at your parents wedding. I remember my sister flying down for the wedding and landing at the San Francisco airport and she was thinking the plane was going to land in the water the way that runway looks. That always gave me a chuckle when I'd fly into SFO. I know she recently talked with Carla. I remember all those years of prep for Bruce and the Olympics and cheering for his every win. It was also fun for me knowing Chrystie and I both became Interior Designers for a career.

Your Father is a great American athlete and athletic hero!
You know the history... Russia was considered a threat to the world.
1976, The United States 200 year anniversary.
1976 Olympics was one of the most Olympian historical events in history.
I would love to hear your Father's minute by minute account and mind set.
I know he wins and my heart begins to race as I watch this competition (as it did when I watched on television Summer 1976) and your Father's run and victory. My heart is still pounding. Your Father made America proud!

He didn’t want to be a woman 1972-1976. He trained 6-8 hours per day 365 days per year for the games. Never thought about dresses and makeup even once I bet. The only thing he thought about was being the best MAN in the world, the best male world athlete. Didn’t he say a couple months ago he wished he didn’t have gender reassignment? Some things are reversible. The
