Tools/Supplies Needed:
-3/8" drive ratchet
-3/8" 3" extension
-3/8" 6" extension
-3/8" 10mm socket
-3/8" 8mm socket or standard/flat screwdriver
-3/8" 5/8" deep socket with spark plug grommet
-feeler gauges or spark plug gapping tool
Procedure:
-using an 8mm socket or standard screwdriver, loosen the intake tube gear clamps
-remove the rubber intake tube which is just a sliding fit
-using an 8mm socket or standard screwdriver, loosen the gear clamp on the intake duct before the throttle body
-remove the two 10mm bolts on each side of the intake duct, then pull the intake duct straight off
-disconnect the sensor by the throttle body by depressing the tab and pulling straight off
-remove the two snap clips holding in the coolant pipes by using a standard/flat screwdriver
-starting with the first spark plug, remove the 10mm nut holding in the coil pack
-to remove the coil pack connector, depress the tab and pull the connector straight off
-give the coil pack a little jiggle when removing as this will reduce the risk of damaging the sealing o-ring
-using a 3” and 6” extension together which is used for almost all the spark plugs along with a 5/8” spark plug socket with a rubber grommet insert
-depending on which spark plugs you have purchased, the gaps may need to be adjusted or at least checked
-the gap specification is located under the hood on a white tag and it 0.040"
-feeler gauges or a spark plug gapping tool will work for this
-install the new spark plug and torque to 20ft. lbs.
-reinstall the coil pack and torque the nut to 5ft. lbs.
-for the next spark plug, the plastic bracket will need to be removed by removing the 10mm bolt and carefully pulling out the plastic bracket
-the remaining two spark plugs on the driver’s side, it’s a similar removal process compared to the first spark plug
-the passenger side rear spark plug can only be accessed with a 6" extension and 5/8” spark plug socket
-next two plugs moving closer to the front of the vehicle, they can be removed in the standard procedure using a deep socket with a 6” and 3” extension
-the last front passenger side spark plug has a plastic bracket which needs to be removed by removing the 10mm bolt and then carefully pulling the bracket out from it's location
-reinstall all other components in reverse of removal

I have to say that this is in the top 10 best videos I've ever watched to "fix" something. You were precise, descriptive, easy to follow and didn't waste anybodies time with useless chit chat. And your written description and list is awesome as well! You put a lot of effort in this video & post and it is truly appreciated. Outstanding job! Thanks
+JP Birtz Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate that!
Yeah exactly right to the point. No talking about what day it is and who you bought the truck off of and not using a crappy 80 dollar cell phone to make a video. Good video man
Thank you! One of the rare few videos that cuts straight to the point instead of a 15 minute life story!
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback!
Agreed.
Seriously. No stupid b.s. like: "Hey guys, today we're gonna talk about the... blah, blah, blah, blitty, blah." Just straight to the point.
I actually had to pause and slow things down instead of fast forward. Love it.
And music drowning out😂 every information on Word
The BEST DEMONSTRATION ever.Nice job.
Thank you, the spark plugs are in! The old ones were stock as I suspected (bought it used) and at the 120k mile mark, they were beyond shot. And the difference afterward is immediately oblivious even at idle. Your info was very helpful.
Awesome to hear and happy to help :)
I think this is the problem I'm having, bought a used one and it just hit the 130,000+ mile mark; Got the P0301 engine code this morning 🙄
Awesome job on the video; it's quick, clean, and no wandering off to other topics. Only thing I would suggest is to use a compressor to clear out the debris around plugs before pulling them, which is standard practice anyways.
Hey...this 4.7 i am changing plugs is the first engine i have not had to burn my fingers/hands on hot manifolds..i was a Chevy guy but bought an 07 Dakota extended cab..thank you for the great tutorial...i had all 8 plugs changed in about a half hour...and thank you for showing me where the damn things were...haha, great video
Excellent to hear and thank you for the feedback!
Great Video! No intro....fast ... accurate...and to the point! All videos should be like this! 👍
Thank you for the great video. I know nothing about mechanical repairs, but about to attempt to fix my truck by myself and your video will help me out a lot.
No problem, happy to help and thank you for the feedback :)
Thank you so much for this informative video! It's the best one I have found to date! As a widow who is learning how to do all this herself, I am truly grateful when I find instructions this clear! ♥
The very best DIY video I've ever watched -- you did in 3 minutes what some would have done in 18 or 24 minutes. Outstanding!
+Walrus Fiftyone Thank you for the compliment!
This is a great video: clear, quick, and to the point! Thanks so much.
But I can't help but think about how this multi-step change is considered an easy plug change today. I long for the days, thirty or forty years ago, when you didn't have to remove anything but the plug boots themselves to change a set of spark plugs. I'm getting old.
Thank you! I totally agree... I have an 84 car where I can access the plugs extremely easily, then my daily driver needs the boost pipe removed (which is tricky on it's own), you need to manoeuvre a couple covers out, and remove the coil packs.
The early 00's Chevy ls v8's are still just a boot on the plug and those suckers are a nightmare. Constantly end up tearing the lead and having to buy another set. At least with the coil packs I've never had one "stuck" to the spark plug.
You're the best! Informative and specific about everything we will need. Soctet sizes, extensions and when to use them, you even took the time to show us where the AC line clips are. I appreciate the attention to detail and the efficient use of your time.
Damn right, I'll like your video! Thanks again.
Happy to help and thank you so much for the feedback, greatly appreciated :)
One of the fastest and best explained videos I've ever saw!! Thanks
Excellent to hear and thank you :)
thank you for making my life easier when replacing the plugs on my 2000 durango!
+Paul Moritz Excellent to hear and glad to help out.
That's what I'm about to do on a 2000 Durango
About to do the same 2000 Durango
Very well done. One of the best DIY videos I ever watched. Quick, to the point and thorough.
Thank you so much for the feedback :)
Thanks bud you made changing spark plugs and coil packs a breeze today. Thanks for great video.
Thank you :)
I just changed mine, and pulling every coil required the strength of Atlas. Needless to say it wasnt a breeze
You was very straightforward right to the the point explaining everything, thank you!
You're welcome!
I agree with the rest of the comments, very well done !!
Thank you!
Quickest and best auto video yet --> thanks.
Thank you!
You're awesome and fAst straight to the point. Great input.
+hankkorenzo Thank you!

Glad to help out :)
Joey sims can dodge durango coil pack be used on a ford pick up
Excellent instruction, thank you.
Thank you so much!
In this day of 100,000 mile spark plug interval, I think that it's important to note that on this engine the plugs should be replaced every 30,000 miles.
Can I install a dual-pole spark plug in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 V8?
Wow! Super great video, it was to the point, and packed with information
excellent job that is very helpful
+3408kid Thank you!
I've gotten 7 out of 8 far back passenger side plug don't want to come out seem like my 5/8 socket not grabbing out
Thankyou , straight to the point
Thank you :)
good quick vid that covered removal
+Thomas McGugan Thank you.
Thanks excellent explanation, take care.
Thank you!
Very to the point and concise. You may want to slow down the speech just a bit.
Thank you! An old video so I've definitely addressed the fast rate of speech.
good video great quality. but i think i gonna leave it to my mechanic once i need to change the cables also. Thank u for uploading!!!
Thank you. Nice and quick and concise.
I bought spark plugs for my 05 Dodge Durango 4.7 I was told to get them at 44 I was 80% done and I looked under the hood and noticed it was at 40 would it make a difference
Why do manufactures put spark plugs under the firewall. its almost impossible to replace plugs on my Kia Rondo. I let the dealership do it, and I'm almost 100 percent positive the mechanic skipped those under the firewall.
John D trust me I love some Asian cars like the mk4 Supras and Nissan skylines and wrxs but all of those cheap basic Asian cars are junk as hell
Figures all the rest are easy compared to those
How do I know witch 1s are my intake spark plugs and my Exhaust they gave me 8 of 8 different plugs and different gaps but they told me that green box for intake side and blue box for exhaust side whats that means 2011 1500 dodge ram 4.7 classic crew cab flex fuel
Thank you so much!
Perfect. Thank you.
No problem, happy to help!
Great video! Thank you very much
Glad to help out!
Do I need to unplug the negative terminal on the battery before doing this?
Lol hellll yea bro
anyone knows the name or Part number shown at 1:03 (coolant hardline clips)? They were really brittle and snapped off when unlatching.
Thanks for the help!
Glad to help out! Don't forget to subscribe.
Is the engine of dodge ram 2006 can be replaced in dodge Dakota 2006?? Please answer me
Why don't I have the sensor near the throttle body?
great video! thanks
+stevie nothin Thank you!
Very helpful! Thank you.
Thank you so much
You're very welcome!
I look up how long it typically takes to change spark plugs and the internet said 1.5-2 hours
Took me 45 minutes
You made this easy
Thank you. The video usually ends up cutting out a lot of frustrations lol.
perfect thanks for the video
Glad to help out :)
why would oil be coming out of the hose that goes to the canister or the 2 throttle body
You may have an issue with the PCV valve.
Amazing vid bro ty!
Thank you and glad to help out :)
Does this also work with the 2000 Durango 4.7?
Which one it's the number 4?
Hi, sorry if this question is dumb but how many spark plugs are there total? I have a 2002 Dodge Durango 4.7L V8 and online information is conflicting, telling me I need either 8 or 16 sparkplugs. Can you clarify for me please?
8 plugs, this was an 03 in the video. I believe the newer 4.7L, around 06 and up have 16 plugs. The 5.7L also has 16 plugs too.
is this the same as my 2003 dodge durango???
Does anyone know if a 2003 Dodge Durango has spark plug wires? Like the older cars do. Because I got people telling all kinds stuff.
Same engine as shown in the video, it'll be coil per cylinder.
I followed this verbatim. Dakota ran great and MPG boosted but the next day it stalled at a red light. It seems to stall randomly now & Rpm looks like it’s struggling. Anyone have any ideas what I f’d up?
Almost sounds like a misfire, first place I'd start is with the coils. An electrical connector may not be seated correctly. Or you could even have a bad plug. If a cel is present, scan the codes too.
I have the 4.7L magnum in my 04 ram and this will be my first plug change since owning this truck. I heard there are 16 plugs not 8 on this motor, can you confirm?
Robert Readshaw only 8.
Same as what Shawn said, only 8. That was the same engine used in the Dakota and Durango as well.
Robert Readshaw can a dodge carnage coil pack be used on a ford pick up
My 4.7 magnum has 16, but it is also the flexfuel. Not sure if that's why, but according to my chilton, it's the only motor that year that has 16. Not the hemi
So I know the 5.7 hemi has 16 spark plugs the 4.7 only had 8 correct?
Yes that is correct. Don't forget to subscribe :)
Great video. Thanks!
How many coils would I need for a 4.7 if I want to change all of them?
8, one per cylinder. Typically these coil packs last for a very long time, so you may just have failing instead of all. They can usually be tested with a multimeter doing a resistance test while off the vehicle. I believe these may also have boot replacements, so if the coil is good, just replace the boot instead.
4DIYers thanks for responding I really appreciate it and thanks for the help
can you tell me which type of spark plug you recommend for a 2007 dodge Dakota Laramie V8 4x4 with 48,000 miles? thanks!
For this particular truck, OEM replacement was copper (can't remember the brand). But as a generalized standpoint I've always ran platinum plugs in everything I've owned, specifically Bosch multi ground electrodes. Platinum still has good performance, but not better than copper, although they do last longer and the multi ground electrodes give more than one path for least resistance during a spark. Bosch is just a personal preference, I've been happy with their products.
4DIYers ..oh thanks for your reply. my brother in law has been helping me and he helped me replace them the other night...he recommended the OEM which is champion copper so that's what we put in. I was so proud of myself because I've never done that before and I know close to nothing about cars. I am going to learn as much as I can now because I was told I needed my catalytic converter replaced becuz of the code but I think it was just the spark plugs (they were worn down up to 0.055 inches)...and I have to rely on my own accumulated knowledge now. why can't the specialists figure it out?
No problem :) Awesome to hear, we've all started somewhere and once you build up those skill it's definitely well worth it! Worn plugs will definitely cause poor performance and if too excessive will not fully burn a mixture. Catalytic converter codes are not usually good, they can be quite costly to replace. But if it was a poor mixture issue, then that code may have been more specific to an O2 sensor. So the ECU wasn't able to lean out the mixture enough and the exhaust gases were too rich.
4DIYers ...I don't understand all of that but I will try to get my brother in law to interpret that for me..lol.....I also just put in a can of Seafoam fuel system cleaner into the gas tank for the first time. do you think I Shud also use a catalytic 🐈 cleaner in the gas tank soon? thanks
Spark from the spark plug needs to be strong enough to ignition the air and fuel mixture in the combustion chamber to create an explosion. If it's too weak, the explosion will not become hot enough to fully burn that mixture. Therefore on the exhaust stroke, those fumes will contain excessive fuel which passes by the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor will read that as a rich mixture (too much fuel) and throw an error (check engine light). An injector cleaner is a good idea. However there is nothing that will clean a catalytic converter as it's at the end of the system and is there to burn off fuel exiting into the exhaust. People have removed them and cleaned them, soaking them in a solvent. But I wouldn't think it's needed in your situation.
Where are the fule injectors.
YFI If you turn the speed to .o5 you can keep up with him better and still understand him. No a fence but you talk to fast.
This is quite a cake job, compared to f series triton plug replacement, bigtime.
Awesome to hear! Yeah the Tritons aren't user friendly at all. Check out my video on a 4cyl Ranger, the intake side spark plugs are a nightmare.
Did a couple of those 8 plug 4 cyls as well! I also worked for chev dealer back in the late eighties-early nineties, and wondered how the do it yourself folks liked the late eighties camaro fuel tank/pump job out in the driveway....
Luckily I have never worked on a fuel tank from a Camaro. Just watched a video online, what a nightmare lol.
Tx from Libya
How long for this job ?
Easily done in a couple hours.
Ok now how about the second row or bank
Good video. Vest video ever
Thank you :)
Informative vid, but I had to watch 3 times cause you talk too fast!
Thank you! Old video, was still getting used to my audio editing setup. But you can play it at a slower speed in the video settings.
Maaaan I have an 08 Dakota so it has 2 spark plugs per cylinder i'm fucked I can't get to the bottom ones lol
Motor City I in the same boat, I decided to pay the 400.00 and let the mechanic do the cussing.
I got to the lower plugs by taking the front wheels off and going in that way.
Tx
Screw that I'm buying my honda back
Thats one thing I hate. Why engineers put so much bullshit on top of the spark plugs. On the old v8s they were right there in front of you. You could have all 8 done in 3 mins
Yep, and it's getting worse. Check out my video for the Ford Ranger 4cyl spark plug replacement. Technically you're supposed to remove the upper intake, but it can be done with a variety of attachments. Now I have a Ram V8 with 16 spark plugs lol.
Tx from Libya
is this the same as my 2003 dodge durango???
Sergio Rosales if it had the 4.7 it should be the same.
As Cory said, if it's the same engine, then it will be the same procedure. This was done on a 2003 Dakota.
+4DIYers even if it's the magnum 4.7
Sergio Rosales, the 4.7 in my truck has v8 but it has 16 spark plugs. silver quad cab.
