When you study the humanities you get that. You see it in the journals and diaries of great and ordinary people, in the history of nations, or the marks mindlessly left on walls and in margins.
Whether the collective unconscious is real or not humanity has unwittingly chronicled the entirety of it's own existence. Tapping into it you'll see how we haven't changed since we stood up. We suffer the same problems, ask the same questions, and make the same mistakes.
Not only can you see the repeating cycles of events but the patterns preceding them. You don't have to live for a thousand years to have a thousand years of wisdom.

Looking back on Adventure Time it was also pretty clearly an experimentation space for any writers they would bring onto it. A lot of the later changes in the show seem like people trying to subvert or build upon each other's decisions.

It does look and sound like a legitimately good show, unfortunately an abusive ex completely ruined this and a lot of other franchises by association with him. Its a work in progress but years later hearing it on tv still makes me anxious. The irony here made me chuckle

I did have an epiphany the other day. I realized that the reason I enjoy and have held on so hard to media from my childhood was because of how rough it was and having grown up too fast because of what my home life was like. I'm just clinging to the things I had that made me happy the the rest of my daily life was generally not good. For better or worse that why I never moved past it. I was made to skip the part where you grew INTO adulthood and went straight to having adult responsibilities instead of it being gradual.
Adventure Time is one of the last cartoons to create a compelling coming of age story for young boys.
The irony of course is that it ushered in the squiggly child like drawing style, that people have tried to emulate but not the themes or story structure.

It’s strange but my parents didn’t want me watching Adventure Time when I was younger and prefer me watching Regular Show which I found weird since Regular Show was more more teenager and up from the get go whilst Adventure Time grew into it.
Thankfully nobody actually enforced the it so I was able to enjoy both
I get parents not wanting you to watch Adventure Time cause it was more explicitly dark sometimes, but Regular Show being okay is pretty funny. Guess that's all hindsight.

In my opinion, adventure time was a show that managed to keep a kid entertained well questioning adulthood through a cartoonish language, dealing with loneliness and the consequences of past mistakes example Simon or ever growing curiousity and need for control example bonnibel bubblegum , to me it was a really good show that never just follow the story of two heros but rather everyone one involved in their own or others stories and how they grew and ended...also jake is the realest friend in all of cartoon media ... I really enjoyed Adventure Time during the like first season when it was silly kid fighting things in fantasy land and I really enjoyed Adventure Time during the final few episodes where all the Simon stuff happens and there's some really wicked backstory.
But the rest of it just annoyed me and made me massively uncomfortable and still does to this day.

Eh, stronger in the first half than the second. It stretched itself too thin with all these added subplots that by the finale, every one of them either ends unsatisfactorily or not at all.
Plus, I'm one of those people who enjoys a mindless fun show with no overarching plot like the ones of my adolescence, rather than the opposite that we get way too much of nowadays.

The lore, the story that unfolded, the blend of light and dark humor and tone. Then the amazong music and characters. One of the greatest shows and an important one. Future animators will cite it as their inspiration and i will always treasure it as the show that kicked off a golden age for animation. It has earned it's place, no matter how everyone might feel.
It was the end of a golden age for animation. Late 90's‐00's toons were ❤

I was about thirteen years old when this show came out and I could relate to Finn.s “do right” nature. As I became older I thought he was a tool that served princess bubble gum blindly and would have died several times over due to his impetuous and naive mistakes. Now that I am even older I can see that this kid had grit traversing the wonderful savage lands of Ooo. Though he was abandoned and adopted he‘d always chose to do right without disregard for his own safety. Id be proud of my blood if they had lived so noble.
I can draw stickmen darwing like this guy is just magic to i can make perfect 3d hand for example or with clay but drawing is rocket science to me
I enjoyed it then they kept turning people gay for no reason.

Im happier now than before, and i enjoy stories and art on a deeper level. its cool. Idk.
The show became a bit melodramatic for me as as a teen, but you have me wondering if i should pick it back up.

Your praise may not be totally inaccurate but having lessons doesn't mean the lessons are taught well, and the characters being shown to be broken in some way doesn't mean the characterization is well communicated or conceived.

Marceline my favorite character
I do appreciate AT for giving its cast character arcs. Finn's could have been better but I appreciate seeing all of them become (even PB and Ice King) become better people.
I never watched it when it was out and I'm so sad that I didn't. I tried watching it a bit later and couldn't get into how random it was. But then recently, I watched it with the girl I'm seeing, and holy fuck. That show is great. I cried multiple times during the binge.
I really thought Finn was going to end up with both PB and Marcy. Those first few seasons are so nuts that it really felt likely.
My friend and I really enjoyed Adventure Time, but we were both quite disappointed with the way the show reverted to "random silly episode with no impact" formula, and we were both annoyed with the resolution of the big plot near the end. Specifically, spoilers below
randomly making LSP the key out of nowhere felt extremely unsatisfying and out of place.
LSP was very clearly shown as totally immune to corruption through the entire arc though. It really wasn't out of nowhere.

Adventure time just didn't work out for me as this was like a theme of 'Planet of the Apes' But its 'Planet of the freaks' as they both Pertain as a Post Apocalyptic world...

Maybe i should take an afternoon to tolerate a season, but every time i see this show on tv its always just so quite and the humor just seems to be quips the characters make. I dunno, its not my vibe at all, not big on all the ukelele songs either
My suggestion is to skip the first season - they're not sure what they want from the show, and they start with some ideas/things that they drop or revamp later into better ideas.

It's probably my favorite cartoon of all time. Great show great comedy it's just it may have been bogged down a little bit towards the end because of certain writers but I won't get into that because everybody knows.
I never watched it. Wakfu was also supposed to be something of a kids show, but it really grabbed me, and it's not the most original either. I also liked Moomins. Some shows are just what you need in the moment. I'm about to watch the John Wick movies soon to see if they're as good as people claim.
Try Dofus, if you can deal with subtitles. It's basically a more directed, wholesome Wakfu.

It took longer than just post season 1 to get to the lamp episode, but I could see you getting those vibes off of the Flame Princess arc.

i would've said the same but i think the show has a massive status quo problem and it annoys me watching it. i love the characters, but i feel like no plot point in the show is ever of consequence going forward, and characters scarcely learn anything. princess bubblegum is great, but her development has been consistently wasted throughout the show and she goes back in her ways constantly.
the only thing ever of consequence was the flame princess plot and the ending of the series. the show tries to have these exciting season long narratives later on only for absolutely nothing to come of them, which conditions me to not get excited for anything and assume everything is going to go to waste in some way.
there's the whole plot with princess bubblegum in season 6 or 7 realizing she was a bad person and the show makes a big deal out of the fact she stopped spying on people finally. and then she goes right back into spying on every character like nothing has changed, she has no real character arc and worse, noone calls out pb for being horrible throughout the entire show. she is still the same control obsessed maniac she was in season 1 and the show does not redeem her at all while simultaneously pretending like you should like her. the show does similiar twists that amount to nothing with marceline and ice king at one point and its frustrating. it goes to the point where in season 6 or 7 there was this whole narrative that they trashed completely at the end, and i guessed that that narrative would actually happen only at the ending of the series because i figured that's when they could do something the show has been setting up for ages because the ending would be the same point where status quo would not matter anymore. so i googled it, and it turned out i was completely right lol. what i predicted was gonna happen at the end happens in the very last episode of the series in fact. its just insanely frustrating. the show has all these awesome characters and proceeds to do nothing with them, all the while pretending like it's going to give them development but backpedalling at the last second because it's afraid of changing anything. the lemongrab plot aswell, there was that whole narrative at one point and it all amounted to it coming back to point 0. why even watch at that point when you know nothing that happens is ever of consequence smh
